It's a nice environment to chat with my social worker with CSL, Samantha. It's a great place to discuss plans for the of my family.

Do you like coffee? Do you like giving back to the community? BlendWell is the perfect place for a hot or cold java concoction if you answered yes to those questions. Ran by the not for profit Community Service League, they use the proceeds to assist families in eastern Jackson county with utilities, food and others services. It is located in a former bank and the vault is now a conference room. The rest of the space is wide open with large modern wooden tables, comfy chairs and couches and local art on the wall. A very clean and welcoming feel, there was a fundraiser selling ornate ribbons and bows going on at the time of my visit. They have the standard coffee choices and grilled sandwiches. I like the idea and the execution of their mission and will stop by for some caffeine anytime I'm near northwest Independence. read more

Such a wonderful addition to Independence. All proceeds go back into the community and you would think this might mean the quality would not be as good or the atmosphere as cozy but that would be inaccurate. They serve Thou Mayest coffee and local pastries as well as an extensive breakfast and lunch menu. You can use a conference room for meetings, enjoy your beverage at a table or relax in a chair or couch. Our drinks were great and my husband's sandwich was delicious. Here's an idea: don't have something on your menu during the summer if it's a "fall item". Every time I go here they are out of almost everything. I've gone right when they open, nothing made....I've gone several other times throughout the day and they've got maybe 3 things available plus whatever pastries are left over. The person who I've encountered majority of the time is not friendly either. Not sure where the "community" part of the name comes from. read more

Interesting set-up (which is the best part going here----very spacious) with potential if the food, such as the pastry, offered wasn't grocery quality and the coffee served were better than something that tastes like a Maxwell house blend. This cafe used to be a bank, the vault is open and is a conference room, and safety deposit boxes are laid into the tables. I had a danish and peppermint iced coffee, both delicious and reasonably priced. The place has both an old fashioned and new age hipster feel, and I will be coming back for the coffee and the nice staff. read more

Stumbled upon this place...a student's dream spot for studying!!!!! Nice large tables, A QUIET ENVIRONMENT, friendly staff, and yummy coffee and pastries. What more could I ask for?!?! They also have a drive-thru window! I love that they do things for the community and ISD school district too. I will definitely be returning to this place in the near future! Try them out. BlendWell is a great social venture in NW Independence. It's owned and operated by Community Services League, a nonprofit started by Bess Truman and her friends in 1916! To help encourage neighborhood revitalization, CSL bought and renovated an old bank building. The vault is a conference room! More than a coffee shop, BlendWell is a community space that's welcoming for meetings. Today there was a mastermind group for business owners, a meeting of pastors from across the metro area, and people coming in to meet with job coaches. The coffee and food are good too. Overall a great place. We need more places like BlendWell to bring people together! read more

This place is a gem. Very cool atmosphere. It was converted from a bank and the conference room is in a vault. They had students from the Independence School District make some of the furniture. The food and drinks are amazing, I personally like the ABC for breakfast, but the cinnamon rolls are great too. The staff is super friendly and helpful. read more

When you need a nice place to sit and unwind this is your stop! Coffee is brewed well with great taste and they are now serving sandwiches! I just had the Cuban Reuben Sandwich and this is a nice sandwich. Flavor was very good and the combination of the Cuban and Reuben works. A creative masterpiece. Prices are good and the environment is very clean and bright. Lots of comfortable seating and the staff is very friendly and helpful to suggest their offerings. Go by there and grad a cup or do lunch. Worth the effort and drive. read more
