Dr Schats has always been an amazing exotic pet vet for us. We got 2 fancy rats 2 years ago and she has helped us with them the whole time. This week one of our rats took a turn for the worse and the whole team at the facility was so sweet and kind. They got us in before closing time to put little Nibbles down. From the moment I walked in they took care of us, ushering us back into a room with a fluffy blanket for her to lay on while we waited. They basically killed my dog. My dog could barely go to the bathroom and when it did, he had diarrhea. I took him up to Pleasant Hill Animal and they said can we do a rectal check and I told them yes is clear and they had done an x-ray and they said everything looks good. It looks like he ate today because his stomach is full and I'm thinking to myself. Why is his stomach full? He didn't eat yet. So I waited took him back again and they said everything looked good, but can we do a rectal exam and I said so a rectal exam and nothing so I took him back in February 2022 still with the same problem and they said could they do an erectile exam and I said OK go ahead was over a year and a half or less and still, they couldn't find any problem. The problem was getting worse at that point. So I took him back the next month and they said what can we do a rectal exam and I said you just did one last month how many times do you wanna look up there? They kept charging me and doing nothing and it's not about the money. It's about my dog all this time he was suffering and all this time they were taking him in the back saying they were doing rectal exams. Maybe they were maybe they weren't but I don't know. It seems like one or two would've been sufficient. So I left with him then I made an appointment for Raymore Vet veterinarian hospital. That was on a Tuesday and they said well let's try his diet first and I said OK so three days later on a Friday the 13th I took back to Raymore and I said he's not getting any better and she said I know you've already done three or four rectal exam, but would you mind if we do one so we can try todetermine what's going on? I told them OK go ahead. They came back out and told me he was full of cancer. That dog was laying on a cool surface that explains why he was having diarrhea and not being able to go because he had blockage in there. The diarrhea was caused from the cancer. There were other now off the top of my head I can't think of them because every time I talk about this I'm so furious. I basically paid to let my and die. If you have a problem, even a minor one my honest opinion I would never take an there again ever and I've never been back since then. They blocked me on their website because I told the story which it's the honest to God truth I'm not want to lie and I don't like people that do lie. I'm just telling my story so other people won't lose their the way I did it. It's just 100% honesty. And it goes to show you what kind of people they are they blocked me because of my honesty or is it because of their lack of knowledge and not helping an animal the way they should be capable of helping all of the times I took him there the couldn't come up with anything but within three Raymore Vet veterinarian had him diagnosed. People just beware if you love your them there. read more

I've used this vet for the better part of a decade or more and have been very happy with their services. I appreciated they weren't part of a corporate chain and that they really seemed to have a small vet feel to the place. Several ups and downs, from putting my senior dog down there and then them taking care of my new puppy, getting him neutered there, and so much more. That all came to a grinding halt today in the most upsetting way to me. I needed to get more heart worm medicine for my dog. Keep in mind that I have done this for the better part of a decade with this place. And I got the same brand for my senior dog and the new dog. Maybe I made a mistake, I will own up to that, but I routinely didn't give my dog the heartworm medicine in the winter months. There were no mosquitoes out so why give it to him? (I see now through online sources the recommendation is to give it to them throughout the year. I think that's a combination of pet pharma looking out for their profits and online websites covering their butts from litigation.) But if I should give it to him every month out of the year, I will do it. I would put my own life on the line for my dog, there's nothing I wouldn't do for him to help him be happy, safe, loved, and healthy. This time however I decided to buy Trifexis from an online retailer because it was cheaper than I could get at this place. After seeing my order held up online for several days, I called out to the vet to find out what's up. They told me it's been more than 6 months since last time I bought it and I have to bring my dog in for a blood test. They want to do a heartworm test on him before honoring the prescription refill from an outside company. I was extremely upset. First, I had routinely bought it on this schedule from them in person. They could look back on my records and see the pattern. That pattern hasn't been broken. So why suddenly now I have to bring him in for a blood test? (And on top of that, they accused me of not giving him the medicine during the warmer months! I didn't appreciate the accusation! And the fact they didn't even take into consideration my explanation!) This tells me two things. 1) They are being punitive because now I want to get the prescription from somebody else and they can't make as much money off me any more. or 2) They were just ignoring the well being of my dog while I was forking money over for heartworm medicine and gladly not batting an eye when I paid them directly. But now I want to give my hard earned money to another company they want to suddenly act like they are paying attention. Either way, this does not sit well with me. Either scenario is a lose/lose in my book. It really upset me to tell them I was done with them. It broke my heart. I loved Dr. Austin and I get a lump in my throat at thinking he won't take care of my dog anymore, but this was really a breaking point for me. I take the health of my dog very seriously. If I was doing something wrong before, why did it take well over a decade for them to bring it to my attention? And if I wasn't doing anything wrong before, then the way I am being treated this way after being a loyal customer? Either way it's not right. Today I contacted another vet, further away from me, and had his records transferred there. It broke my heart to do this, but I was also extremely upset. read more

I took my husky there on Friday November 16th to be spayed and that was the last time I saw her alive. They called me at 12pm stating that the operation was finished and she was doing great. When I arrived there at 5:20pm, once I got off of work, they put me in a room and the vet told me that they had noticed internal bleeding at 4pm and they were taking her back in to operate. She told me that she would be fine. After about an hour another vet came in the room and told me that they couldn't save her. I was told verbatim that "there is so much stuff in there, we couldn't find the bleeding". Because of their negligence a beautiful and healthy husky is dead. She was the sweetest dog in the world and is for sure irreplaceable. If you value your pets life I would avoid taking the risk and find a different office to go to. read more

My family has been going here since we moved to LS when I was 5. They have helped all of our animals over the years. In 20 years they have helped my parents' 5 dogs / 3 cats, my sister's 2 cats and my 2 cats. They were extremely kind when we lost animals or had to put an animal to sleep. They helped with my 12 year old dog's jaw cancer and comforted us when it was her time to go. They removed our other dog's cancerous tumor and gave her an extra 5 years to live. They went above and beyond to try to save our 11yr old cat when he was attacked by our neighbor's dog. The vet even came in before they opened to begin care for him (it was 6-7am). They know our family and our animals. Most of the time, not having an appointment isn't a problem. They have lunch break 12-1:30pm and they seem to get a lot more crowded right after that. Prices are also very reasonable. read more

I have been taking my dogs here since I was a little girl. My 14 year old dog recently passed away here. I didn't feel like she was being taken care of or anybody cared at all for the matter. It's always a difficult thing to decide when it's time to relieve a beloved pet's suffering. Everyone at LSAH was kind & compassionate when I brought my kitty in... they examined her, outlined the options, and let us make the decision without pushing one way or another. The whole process was handled very sensitively. At the risk of a jarring shift of tone, I also appreciated that they were quite a bit less expensive than other vets I checked out. I wish I could be one of those people that says, "Nothing but the best for my furbabies," but sadly, my resources are a little too limited to allow such a thing. LSAH charged one third of what my local Overland Park vet does for euthanasia. The Guy, who has worked with horses & cattle for decades, also recommends them as a large-animal vet. He's known Dr. Herzog forever, seemingly. Thumbs up! read more

My lifelong 12 year collie best friend grew old and struggled to function as he always used too. He used to be so lively and enjoyed taking long walks a couple times a day. Payton was friendly and kind to any dog or cat he ever met. Loved any person that we met. It was so hard to come to a decision to finally relive his pain. We took him to this hospital to be put down. They were so kind and respectful to Payton and us. The Dr was respectful and sympathetic. Payton quickly passed without a whimper just going to sleep. Later I received a nice sympathy card from them with his paw prints on a separate enclosed card. I so thankful they took the time and showed compassion and understanding. Can't thank them enough. Went in to get my dogs shots updated and to check her back leg (she was playing rough with my other dog). I made very clear which leg and I won't say his name but while checking on her leg he was doing it on the wrong leg for 5 minutes and I'm thinking to myself "maybe he's checking both...?" He puts her down and that's when I told him he still needed to check the leg she's limping on. I got my bill and he put an additional $50.00 exam fee and said "I came in for her leg and oh yeah, shots were over due too." He staated if I came in for shots and then Asked to check on her leg the charge wouldn't be there... Thats weird because that's how our exact phone call went when I made the appointment. The ladies upfront we're nice and very apologetic but this is bad business. I'll go down the street for my other pup. read more

It has taken me 3 mos to sit down and write this review. I have been so mad and upset, I could not gather the correct words. So I will name the facts and you can decide to go here or not. When I moved to KC, I made inquiry for a vet for our dogs and parrot. I was told by their Commerce location, there were 2 Avian vets at the Market St location. This is not true. Two vets "can" work on birds, but they are not Avian certified. I discovered this, after the fact, from Dr. Bud himself. Even tho Dr. Bud is an awesome vet, it's his employees who lie. I waited 3 wks to get an appt for my parrot. I did not mind this, as I wanted to see Dr Bud or Dr Susan. We took our bird, to be groomed, and also one of our dogs to have an injection. A Tech came to get the bird and said "the Dr was doing a teeth cleaning on a dog and could work our bird grooming in, while the dog was sedated". So....off the bird went. Our bird was taken and delivered in a cat carrier, so we could not really see her condition when she came back to us. I ask how she had been......i.e. "Good bird", which we always hear. The Tech said she had been terrible. That is never the case!!!!! We left, went home, went to take our parrot out of her carrier and I saw how her beautiful wings had simply been butchered. They literally had been chopped off. I responded by calling Dr Bud, and I admit, I was LIVID. I was past livid, but it got worse. Bud said he would get to the bottom of the problem. Shortly he called back and said "the girls" said Lola had done just fine. There was no problem with her. A Tech had groomed her as there was no Dr available. Why did they not tell me this when I walked thru that door? Dr Bud's comment was, "the feathers will grow back". During the afternoon, I started watching Lola. She was hovering in her cage, not talking, not eating, not interacting. She was leaning to one side. I could tell something was seriously wrong. For Lola to not sing, talk and eat, something was seriously wrong with her. So we found an Emergency Vet - an Avian Vet - and carefully put Lola back in her carrier and took her to be seen by an expert. After an exam........we found out Lola's wing had been broken. It tooks weeks and weeks to even get her wing to slightly mend. She had to have the wing wrapped twice, around her body, for three wks at a time. She will never be able to fly again and never be able to do a full extend to groom herself. The right wing hangs lower than the left now. We have watched her fall off her lowered perch, fall on the bottom on her cage, roll and not be able to right herself. This has just broken our hearts and the hearts of my family. Lola has always been so trusting and loving. Now she knows what BAD CARE can cause. We now know that Dr Bud has employees who lie. We know they think nothing of caring for another animal, while your animal lays sedated. (Even tho that did not happen. That was their plan) All this could have been prevented had they just reset the appt in the first place. I would never trust the Lee's Summit Hospital again, with either my bird or dogs. I will not support a Vet who allows these practices to happen, no matter how good/nice we feel Dr Bud to be. He has a staff that lies. Period. read more

I am a foster for a KC based rescue. This office stepped up when we had a dog that was badly injured in an accident. They have been so amazing to work with!! They did a beautiful job getting him well again, and have been so great to work with on follow up. these wonderful vets and their assistants have given us high class care for 10 plus years. We have aussies, and we have pups every once in a while, and the care is wonderful. Dr Austin is a vet of high quality and he saved one of our dogs with timely and expert care. I can and do speak well about each doctor, and it does not matter which sees my pets, the care is correct and expertly delivered. They seem to like what they do, and what they do, they do very well. The prices are never beyond reasonable, so fear not- they will do the best that can be done for your four-legged friend. read more

We had a baby python, which I know a lot of people do not like which I understand. We found this vet because he is a known reptile vet in the area. We took him into this vet to get mites treated (Fleas for Snakes) a simple thing. The vet decided to spray Dog Flea and Tick spray on the snake to get rid of the mites, but it also poisoned, burned and did neurological damage to our snake. We had to put him down 1 day after the vet treated him. The vet also put him in an oxygen tank the night before because he was doing so bad, we also found out snakes breathe a mixture of Carbon Dioxide and Oxygen, so the poor guy couldn't really breathe all night long either. We have videos and photos of how fast the snake went down hill. They even tried to charge me an emergency fee and euthanization fee to have the snake put out of its misery. Do not take your reptiles here, they have no idea what they are doing. I do not blame the staff, they were super friendly and sympathetic to our situation. The reptile doctor just has no idea what he is doing.... read more
