Came here for the Ryoko Kui "Dungeon Meshi: Delicious in Dungeon" pop up. I do a panel at anime…read moreconventions called "Food Reviewing Dungeon Meshi" where I analyze and review the dungeon floors from the series along with the monsters and dishes they cook, then give real life recommendations to where you can find these dishes in SoCal, so I HAD TO GO HERE. And you know, bring my past Yelpies awards so I can do what my boyfriend calls, "grosshikatsu". We got tickets beforehand online via Eventbrite. I suppose for more busier days, you have a time slot you book and enter. By the time we went, they were sadly already out of commemorative dishes. Also unfortunately, I had no idea that they had a stamp rally with Kinokuniya (would have been nice if there were signs or it was much more publicized -- actually, even when we went to Kino after, they were already out of the stamp cards), but after the kindness of the staff and some convincing and us dying from the heat, they understood our situation. Parking is awful as many such Little Tokyo cases are, but even more so during the weekend and during some events going on in the area, so either be ready to circle around or pay up and make the walking journey here. Getting in is easy, staff scan your QR code ticket and you get a free random post card. One side of the gallery was Ryoko Kui's other works with art drafts, sketches, some translated manga panels, information and background to her works, very nice if you're not familiar with her doujinshi or works outside of Dungeon Meshi. The other side of the gallery was all Dungeon Meshi. You are not allowed to take or record photos of the TV's showing the anime, but everything else seemed to be fair game. The gallery showed various art from scenes in the series and other standalone art of the characters in the world of Dungeon Meshi, the original and final cover art for the manga volumes, a written interview with Ryoko Kui, and much more. Afterwards was the real treat of the visit, all of the photo ops from the animated series, including replicas of the dishes from the series as well as the information of the monsters that were used for the said dishes. PERFECT MATERIAL FOR MY PANEL MIND YOU. Great for photo ops, I loved the color, attention to detail, the 3D aspects of seeing the dishes in front of you, and the detailed back drop and information for the dishes too (like floor 1 hot pot having the scorpion and mushroom cut outs), seeing the walking armor, love the frog photo op and much more. It only covers season 1 of the anime, but, again, perfect for the panel that I host and makes me even more excited for season 2. After the photo op area, there are some cut outs and food models for the concept art of the exhibit itself. Crazy to see that I'm taller than Marcille and my height in comparison to the main cast. Then of course, there's the gift shop at the end. Bonus goods if you spend more than $25, if you share on SNS, and sadly, of course things were already sold out. Solid visit and worth going out of our way to visit (I mean we're obviously otaku too, so kill 2 birds 1 stone in Little Tokyo), and definitely if you are a fan of the series, a foodie, or BOTH like me! NOTE: Since the pop up is in the summer, it gets SUPER hot in this art space. I don't think there's really strong AC in here so lots of fans on the ground and you will get warm. RIP to the cosplayers I saw here.

Go spend it regulating your blood sugar levels from that hearty ramen/sushi lunch by walking around the Geffen Contemporary. They definitely get some interesting work coming through here; from highly technical paintings to puzzling installations 'n shit that is so ugly, you can only call it a modern art masterpiece. Though among my favorites has always been Haruki Murakami and all the sculptures and prints around the concept of Super Flat and the marriage of pop art to a fine art setting.

It brings together decommissioned monuments -- many of them Confederate -- alongside contemporary works that were both borrowed and newly created for this exhibition. Seeing these monuments removed from their original outdoor settings and placed inside a gallery changes everything. Some are unmarred. Others are heavily vandalized. Each state of transformation tells its own story. It forces you to look at them not as background fixtures, but as objects with weight, history, and consequence. The contrast between the historical monuments and the contemporary responses is powerful. It's not an easy exhibition, and that's the point. It invites reflection, discomfort, and dialogue. If you're looking for something visually impressive and intellectually challenging, this is absolutely worth your time.

My friend was 2 feet away and pointed to a location on a map and got yelled at for not being 2 ft away. She was confused because she was 2 feet away but i told her it was cause they thought she was using super powers from her fingers. There was one where it was window blinds being used as art and we knew we cant touch it but there wasnt any instructions on not being able to walk under it.. we got yelled at for walking underneath it. Alot of the words were small and im not sure if id be able to read them from 2 feet away but i didnt want to get yelled at so i skipped all the reading.

Such an amazing place to take my girl for her birthday :) She's awesome expressing her emotions to…read moreme.. she communicates real good and I love to treat her something special in her bday. She will be a future nurse as well, so premonition for her future success :) This place is an immersive experience that renovated an abandon hospital to something beautiful and artistic. People nowadays are unable to express their emotions because of certain circumstances, but this place allows you to do such things and it's freeing and liberating! I'm happy that I took my girl here cause she enjoyed it and it was a pleasure to make her happy in her birthday. She cried, laugh and her compassion as a future nurse showed within these exhibit walls. I don't want to spoil anything from my reviews, but it's definitely a recommendation to people dealing with stress and anxiety. Or if you're just bored and want to open your mind.. cmon in this hospital.. you won't regret it :) PS: She's still gorgeous whether she's angry, sad, anxious, fearful but joyful is the way to go :)

7.12.26 - I kept seeing this on IG and had to go see it during my trip. I purchased tickets for my…read moretwo cousins and I about 3 weeks prior for Sunday July 12th at 11am. Tickets are $55 + $3 fee each. Bit on the pricy side. On-site parking is $20 so try to carpool. Also, people suck at parking, which wastes a whole spot next to them. Parking is already limited so try and park correctly. There were already 2 lines outside when we walked up. Employees are all dressed like doctors and you're even given a patient bracelet and a patient chart that you can stamp. I missed a few somehow. There are 4 floors with 80 rooms created by 70 different artists. I'm seeing people in the reviews crying about the AI screens in the lobby area. Relax people. It's the individual rooms that they create their art in, not the entire building. They started us on the 6th floor so we took the elevator up and took the stairs down. A lot of the rooms were pretty cool to see. A few were just meh. To understand more about the artists work, it helps to read the plaque on the wall. Each room has one. At the end, there is a build your own bouquet shop. Pretty expensive though. $10/flower. Buy 5, get the 6th free. There's also a gift shop too but we didn't walk into it. Unfortunately, we had to rush through since we still had to grab lunch before getting ready for our next event. We didn't get to take the time to read the plaques, fully take in the art ieach room or even see all of the rooms. It would have been fine if there weren't so many people. Definitely plan about 2-3 hours to allow yourself enough time to explore this exhibit. They should sell less for each time slot and space it out a bit more since it is self-paced. This pop-up art exhibit will be available to see until the end of September!

They have their openings every first Saturday of the month from 8pm-11pm (free, $5 donation…read morerecommended). They are currently open for in-person shows! I highly recommend stopping by one of these nights to meet the artists and dive into the whimsical community at the Hive! I first discovered this gallery in '16 during the monthly DTLA artwalk. The variety of art and illustrations make you feel like you're entering a different dimension of creativity and stands out among gallery row with the vibrant, playfully absurd work. The gallery is divided into three (or more?) main areas-- the featured artist show, the group show, and the artist in residents show in the back. There are usually 2 different dj areas where the tunes keep the vibes buzzin high. Be prepared to open your mind and let the magic of this place take you away~

I've been to Corporation Food Hall but never knew the existence of The Hive Gallery until I saw an…read moreInstagram posting of Happening in Dtla regarding the ongoing exhibit so I went one weekday to check it out. When I found the place, it was kind of dim and quiet. I had to double check the hours posted by the door. I peeked through the glass door and saw someone inside so I decided to come in. That person was actually Marcel (or Mancel), one of the artists with one of the stalls in the gallery. I had the gallery all by myself on the day of my visit so I freely roamed inside. I was very much surprised of the size of the gallery and how much art pieces were in there. The gallery looks small outside because of the narrow size but it goes on and on inside. I was impressed with all the unique talents these artists have. I had to tour the place twice to capture all the artworks here. I learned that the ongoing exhibit on my visit was almost ending which explains why the place is empty. I learned that exhibits change every month and from what I learned from other reviewers, this place gets really packed during opening days to meet the artists in person. I highly recommend this place you are into museums and galleries. Entrance is free.
