Renegade Craft Fair is a marketplace showcasing contemporary indie craft artists (think Etsy in the…read moreform of a physical market) and the event has been around since 2010. The fair typically takes place twice a year in Los Angeles - once at Los Angeles State Historic Park (April) and once at Santa Monica Airport (November). Renegade actually hosts a total of 15 curated fairs across 5 major cities (San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Seattle) in 2026 so check the website for the detailed calendar. [Parking]: This is a really popular fair and parking was horrible. The designated parking lot for Los Angeles State Historic Park was completely full and there was a small traffic stalemate. Luckily I found metered parking in Chinatown and metered parking is free on Sundays. [Experience]: Free admission with over 200 artists. The weather was windy on the day of our visit, but the tents held up well. I saw various arts, clothing, boutique items, jewelry, stickers, fragrances, ceramics, essential oils, etc. There was also a section with food trucks and various snack vendors offering free samples. Our party ended up trying a slice of pineapple cake slab from domi and it was great ... and expensive too ($11 per slice). [Conclusion]: Other than the nightmare parking situation, I actually enjoyed visiting this craft fair.

No wannabes, no hipsters, No "starving" artists. Real people with real talent. Let's get things straight. All galleries on La Cienega Blvd. are Los Angeles galleries. All galleries on Washington Blvd. are Culver City galleries. All galleries are apart of the Culver City Art walk. Culver City galleries offer free wine and snacks. I didn't see any of that at the Los Angeles ones. Each gallery had a number in the window so you knew you were at the right place. It was so much fun to gallery "hop" to all the galleries because they were so close to each other. I felt like I was going door to door like on Halloween. Lol. My favorite galleries were George Billis Gallery, JK Gallery, and Bradford Steward gallery. Others were good, but they didn't have the wow factor. The gallery hoppers at this Art Walk were older and lots of families brought their kids. In other words, it's an all ages event. There were a couple of food trucks. I stopped by Coolhaus and there were a few bars and cafes nearby for a quick bite to eat. I didn't see any parking structures. I went to Avenue 50 Studio for a poetry reading the other week, to celebrate the launch of a new…read morebook by Rocio Carlos and Rachel Kaminer. It was my first time at this venue, though I know it hosts readings and other cultural events all year round. It's a really lovely gallery in Highland Park, with a focus on Chicanx/Latinx visual arts. The space is welcoming, with several open rooms flowing into each other, each of them decked out with artwork. Until this weekend, you can see a Day of the Dead exhibit honoring photographer Laura Aguilar, with tribute photography from several artists, as well as a display of Aguilar's Day of the Dead coffin series from 1990. The reading was on a Friday night, so it was basically a party, with booze and snacks and a DJ (poet F. Douglas Brown) in addition to the poetry. It felt fun and vibrant and comfortable, like a party in a super cool artist's house. There were probably over fifty people in attendance, and we all fit comfortably in the main room when it came time to listen to the reading. If you're looking to add a little more art to your cultural diet, I'd highly recommend checking out Avenue 50 Studio. Check the calendar, too, as there are regular free events. You might get some music and literature to go with your dose of visual art.

They have affordable entrance fee $3 for adult and children over 12, although you almost have to pay everything else inside. The field is set up on the triangle shape of the intersections, and it's relatively small and packed. The layout is so random and disorganized, no clear lines for entrance to different programs. They don't seem treat their animals very well, I overheard one of their employees argued with a customer who cared about the pony.

It's December and the pumpkins we got are all still in wonderful condition and still adding a fall ambience to our front yard.

Through stages, spaces and mediums. Pasadena had a great line up for all the art they had to showcase. They delivered it much better than some of the artwalks I've been to in the past. How so? Well, let me tell you: Pasadena Art Night is much less flashy, much more community, and much more organized. It's definitely a night for the family as much as it can be for a date. Because this Art Night is much more community friendly and interactive, there's much more heart coming from the community itself either as the showstoppers or the audience! With a huge line-up of art exhibits, my friend, her son and I managed to hit up four destinations to get our fill of the spectacular evening in store for us. Our first stop was none other than, Kidspace Children's Museum! They had the night lighting up with all the kids' best moves whether it was dancing, jump roping or hula hooping and making sure everything from rope to hoops to even bubbles were lit up! It was practically a mini rave for tiny humans and my friend's kid had a blast. Music was also well selected. From there we took one of the many trams reserved specifically for Art Night goers! All trams were labeled based on destination which made the night all that more accessible to every and all interested! We made it over to the park right by city hall. The park was hosted by a nonprofit org called Day One who delivered an Alice and Wonderland "Down the Rabbit Hole" theme! Tea was being served with tea pots and cups hanging from trees, chalk art welcoming you in, a book tunnel leading you right to the stage of poets and story tellers to the left and luminescent trees with happiness keys being hung right along the branches to your right. The keys were gorgeous with blank tags waiting to be written on. After getting lost down the rabbit hole, we fell upon city hall which was more of a quick pit stop. Only leading us to our final destination, Paseo! Paseo's courtyard was being hosted by MUSE/IQUE. They were showcasing a free basic dance class by the hour or so! They had displayed step by step instructions on the ground of different dances. We made it just in time to learn one of their routines! After being taught, they allowed the participants to find a partner & dance the night away. We had finally made it to the end of our little friend's energy and decided to end the night with some happy feet! We got right back on the tram hassle free. City Hall was the only destination that had every bus for every direction come into! As we ended a well organized and run Art Night in Pasadena, my friend and I promised to attend the next one to come as her little one sang us Wheels on the Bus all the way back to kidspace where our cars were safely parked. This review is actually for the Frogtown Holiday Hop in early December…read more Apparently, Frogtown got its name because of all the frogs (which were actually miniature toads) that used to live near the L.A. River. I had been wanting to visit Frogtown for a while, but whenever they had an event, it was way too hot, but this winter event made it pleasant to be biking and walking around. One of my main concerns was parking, which is an everlasting issue here in L.A. I know they tell everyone to use a rideshare, but then that would've been really expensive for me. Instead, I opted to arrive a little early before the event even started and was planning to park at a nearby park. However, on my way to the park, I found street parking close to the bike path (It helps to study Google Maps ahead of time) and parked there instead. Since it was my first time, I made the mistake of making my way towards the main road. Feeling lost, I put in directions for the brewery since I knew it was one of the stops. On the wall outside, they thankfully had a map which I took a picture of and helped me the rest of the day. You can either walk or bike to the various pop ups, restaurants, and stores, but it really is easier on bike. After all, the places to visit are right off the bike path and you can cover more ground. Plus, it feels good to bike next to the L.A. River with the breeze against your face. It's a novelty to bike along the L.A. River at all since everywhere else you're usually just driving over it on a concrete bridge. Also, since it is such a bike culture, I felt like I belonged more wearing my bicycle helmet to the various spots. It is a little more effort trying to figure out where to park your bike even though some places have bike racks, but even those can fill up fast, like at Spoke Cafe, so you're left leaving your bike at weird places and hoping people won't steal it. Fortunately, no one stole mine. At least one other visitor also went out of his way to help me. The cuff of one of my pant legs got caught in the bike chain (Please wear pants that are tight around the ankles or wear shorts). He saw me struggling to untangle myself and helped me out. It might have been a small kind gesture for him, but for me it meant a great deal. It's little things like that that bring your faith back in humanity. There are several handmade crafts and vintage clothes to rustle through, but for me it was more about the food and drinks. They're a bit on the pricey side, but they purposely start the event when they know people will be hungry and thirsty, especially from all that biking and walking. Overall, I enjoyed myself. It felt like an adventure and I loved the casual vibe of it all, especially since people were walking around with their dogs.

the 2009 frogtown artwalk took place this evening, september 19th…read more the walk was teeming with visitors of all stripes, and seemed much larger and more elaborate than last year's. the vibe was enthusiastic and positive. i particularly liked the los angeles river project by donatella cusma & bojana banyasz, wherein you were introduced to the flora and fauna of the reborn l.a. river through a series of postcards with wonderful graphics showing riparian animals & greenery. to publicize the renewed river and its glories, visitors addressed the post cards, and they will be mailed by the artists, thus increasing the exposure of this urban gem. the other beautiful installation was a series of candles in brown paper bags that lined a long driveway leading to the river itself. positively beautiful & serene, + reminiscent of the south sea festival where candle-lit lanterns are released into the sky in memory of ancestors. except that these lighted the way down to the river to the industrial landscape beyond. see photos.
