Located on the east side of Cypress Road, I can't tell you how many hundreds of times, I've driven by without stopping. And I had no idea that it was as expansive. Coming from the south, you need to watch carefully as there is only one entrance and one exit from the parking lot. There's ample parking spaces. In addition to separate tennis courts, and 2 handball courts/tennis backboard walls, there is a nice play area. The children's playground has swings and covered slides and is mulched to protect the little ones. The large grassy areas are quite nice. A walking (running?) path goes around the perimeter. There are bathroom facilities, too. The one covered pavilion has seating. There are benches nearby and a bbq grill. The pavilion can be rented from the city for an event. It was relatively quiet on weekday. One gal practicing her tennis swings; another couple playing tennis; one person getting in their "steps"; and a guy eating his lunch on a bench at the pavilion. If I lived nearby and/or had young kids, I'd be here everyday.

He was a flight engineer on Turbine 33 that was shot down by a rocket propelled grenade. The movie Lone Survivor depicts the operation. In honor of his sacrifice Pompano Beach decided in 2015 to rename Norwood Pines Park the Sgt. Kip A. Jacoby Park. The park was a place that he loved to skateboard. The park is 4.7 acres and has many large shade trees, There is a large picnic pavilion, bathrooms, tennis courts, grills, a playground, and two handball courts. I had a nice stroll on the paved walking trail that runs the perimeter of the park. The park is bordered by neighborhood homes. On the evening I visited friends were gathering in the pavilion and children were playing on the playground. The many large trees offer a home to the birds in the park. This is a lovely spot to exercise or just sit and relax. It now serves as a memorial to a Pompano Beach resident who made the ultimate sacrifice. I think that it is really nice that Pompano Beach chose to honor their hero with a park named for him.

Harry was a city councilman and banker who opened the first movie theater and ran the post office and grocery store while brother Bob spearheaded the city's agriculture and commercial development. The brothers made their fortune in farming which enabled them to own most of old Pompano. They were the first people to own an automobile and have electric lights. I stopped by because I noticed the beautiful large Christmas tree that the city had set up in the park. They also added decorations that light up at night. While it was beautiful display I felt uncomfortable because they were at least 20 homeless people in the small area of the park. At least one was smoking pot right next to a toddler. As I was leaving I ran into a security guard who told me the homeless could be there and it seems like they have made it their gathering spot. It's sad that the homeless of Pompano can't get better services to help them off the street. The city could have saved the money of the decorations and put it towards that. The really ironic thing is the park is directly behind the Pompano Beach visitors center. I don't think this is the welcoming look of Pompano that they wish to convey to tourists. Although I can't recommend a visit the park it also has a clubhouse, tennis and racquetball courts, basketball court, and a children's playgrounds but honestly take your kids somewhere else.

To raise money for the project they had chicken and rib barbecues. These fundraisers were so popular with the community that they have turned into an annual celebration in Deerfield Beach called Founders Day. The Lions Cklub cleared the area for a park and added a baseball diamond, barbecue pit, and picnic area for the community to enjoy. Today the park also has a playground, 180 foot fishing dock, and six lighted tennis courts. The boat launch allows you to enter the Hillsboro Canal and out into the Atlantic Ocean. If you are looking to engage in team sports, water sports, or just need somewhere safe to take the kids to play, this park is your answer.

Dr. Carter G. Woodson Park is a hidden oasis of nature in Oakland Park that not only serves in a…read morerecreational capacity but also stands as a poignant tribute to history and heritage. The park is named in honor of African American historian and author, Dr. Carter G. Woodson. Woodson was born in 1875 to illiterate parents who were former slaves. Despite an early sporadic and self taught education he entered high school at the age of 20 and completed his degree in two years. He entered college in Kentucky and then received his doctorate from Harvard. Throughout the course of his life, Woodson published many books on Black history, including the A Century of Negro Migration (1918), The Education of the Negro Prior to 1861 (1919), The History of the Negro Church (1921), and The Negro in Our History (1922). After working for a number of years in the field of education Woodson became concerned that the history of black Americans was being ignored by teachers and in textbooks. He then dedicated his career to African-American history and lobbied to establish Black History Month which has been marked every February since 1976. Woodson chose February for the initial celebration to honor the birth months of abolitionist Frederick Douglass and President Abraham Lincoln. Woodson passed away from a heart attack at the age of 74 on April 3, 1950. Dr. Carter G. Woodson Park is located in Oakland Park's historic Harlem-McBride neighborhood. This area of Oakland Park was named McBride after an Irish immigrant who bought the land in 1920. In the 1930's an influx of Black farming residents arrived from the south to the 15 block area and people started referring to it as Harlem McBride referencing the famous Black community in New York City. Today the neighborhood is seeing a surge in development. Cool bars like Funky Buddha and coffee houses are popping up and Harlem McBride has become a magnet for smaller developers and people looking for affordable land and rents in the area. Today the neighborhood is a mix of many cultures and ethnicities. Dr. Carter G. Woodson Park is a neighborhood park located next to a Baptist church that has important ties to the community. This charming neighborhood park has many amenities for the surrounding community to enjoy. The park features a walking path, lighted basketball court, horseshoe pit, picnic facilities, restrooms, and a shaded playground. Trees and well maintained landscaping add to the beauty of the park. The park has an interesting L shape which is unlike most neighborhood parks which are squares or rectangles. In 2007 the City of Oakland Park purchased two empty lots next door to give the oddly shaped park a more cohesive look. As a result the park goes much further back than you would initially think. With the land purchase the park was expanded from .85 acres to 1.25 acres. Dr. Carter G. Woodson Park is the ideal spot to take the kids to play, have a cook out, enjoy a game, or just walk for exercise. From families enjoying picnics, exercise, or just being outdoors, there is something for everyone to enjoy at Dr. Carter G. Woodson Park.

The park was named in honor of Oveta McKeithen, who along with her husband Johnnie were Deerfield Beach community activists and leaders. Johnnie has his own park in the city named after him. Born and raised in Deerfield Beach, Oveta led the city American Legion 9th District Auxiliary, the Deerfield Beach West Kiwanis chapter, St. Mary's Episcopal Church Women, and the civil service board. She also served as business manager for the Packer-Rattlers Youth Football Organization and as a board member for the Deerfield Beach Historical Society. Oveta spent more than 25 years working for the city's Parks and Recreation Department where she managed the Westside Park recreation center. Although she never had children she especially enjoyed creating events for the youth of Deerfield Beach Ovata McKeithen passed away on July 15, 2014 at the age of 80. Oveta McKeithen Recreational Complex amenities include the Johnny L Tigner Community Center, two lighted basketball courts, a football field and a multipurpose field with concession stand, two youth baseball fields, a walking trail, a full size gym, picnic areas, and a playground with a story walk. I appreciate that the design of this park includes both active-sports options as well as those for more casual family-friendly outdoor recreation. Many city events are staged here including the Juneteenth Freedom Fest with food trucks, kids' zones, and music.

This is the only place in Broward County where the Peninsula Mole Skink has been spotted. There are no paved paths through the scrublands, bathrooms, or water. Other detractors from this area included the homeless man sleeping in the playground. Although I appreciate that Broward County preserved a piece of natural land there are much nicer nature preserves to visit in the area.

The update from the city included resurfacing of the basketball court (3 hoops / 1 for little kids), a couple of covered pavilions and a pair of exercise pieces added. The park has two sets of swings - one for little kids and another for bigger kids. There are two sets of playgrounds for under 5 and over 5 age groups. There are a lot of benches and picnic tables under some nice tree cover from the sun. And there is a sidewalk around the entire area for a nice loop by skates, bikes or scooters.

Upgrades to the park were supposed to be made this summer to extend the walking path, add outdoor exercise equipment, resurface the basketball court, and add two new pavilions. This a cute park and there were a lot of people in the neighborhood using it especially now that Palm Beach has moved into phase 2 of reopening and the playgrounds are open. If you are looking for a larger park, I recommend the newly opened nearby Hillsboro El Rio Park South which has a much larger playground, longer exercise paths, and access to El Rio Canal for boats and kayaks.

The park is big (over 8 acres) and it has a lot of amenities for locals and visitors, here you can enjoy Baseball / Softball, Basketball Courts, Volleyball, Tennis Courts, Soccer Fields, walking tracks (almost half a mile with nice exercise stations), and several playgrounds... For those not so much into active life and sports, you can still enjoy the park by using their grills, pavilion, picnic areas, picnic shelters. There is plenty of parking and nice clean restrooms. The park is open from 8 a.m to Sunset, every day of the week. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed in the park.Pets are not permitted in the park, either. Come by and enjoy this nice green space !

Everything was open. I enjoyed the running/fitness track which circles the park. The track is made of a squishy like material which at first I felt like I was sinking into, but by the second day I got used to. There were plenty of people using the park but it did not seem over crowded, it looked like parking may be an issue if there was a game or too many visitors. it was a pleasant place to spend some time while my son was practicing!
