I haven't found the service to be particularly friendly either which seems unusual for a longstanding mom-and-pop with loyal customers who have been coming for decades (I'm the third Marv's generation in my family). I do think it's sweet how they offer free coffee with any bakery purchase. It's by no means gourmet but it's a nice touch. They also sell some miscellany like cheeses, pickled goods, meats, etc. About half the physical space is all baked goods and the second half is the rest. I can't imagine anyone doing significant shopping here but if you needed an item conveniently you can get it here.

Now back to the review, the cake was delivered while myself and my friend (the person being surprised) were out of Lansing. Blumchen called my friend to let her know that they had a delivery that "was perishable" (My friend had no idea she was receiving a cake). But since we were not there, Blumchen didn't have access to the apartment building and was going to leave the "perishable" item in the shade, outside. I think they thought that through though and somehow found a way inside and delivered the cake to the front door. We had a friend go pick the cake up to put it in the refrigerator until we got back. Once we we back, we opened the box and saw a beautiful cake. I don't know how much it cost; the cake was better than a regular store bought red velvet cake because it was not overly sweet and the icing was also balanced. It feels like I have been tying forever so I'm going to end this review with my personal stamp of approval (make sure the person will be home for delivery though).

Needless to say, this was our first stop before the Festival of Lights Parade started. There have been some changes made to the interior since our last visit (another cooler for drinks and misc goodies and a couple shelves of specialty cookies, etc). M Street Baking does offer many delicious treats and tonight we were told of a "secret menu item" - a pita / pasta served in a cup. Pita / Pasts offerings include: Mac & Cheese; Alfredo; and Marinara. Good stuff!!!
