Highland was a great track when it opened in 1925 but it has been enhanced as a golf facility since the LPGA came in 1989. What pro golf left was a first rate course and practice facilities. After the complete bunker and hole redesign 4 years ago the Ross/Hills inspired routing is playable and modern. This is the best kept secret in the midwest and I hope I'm letting the cat out of the bag. First Rate!

A very cool thing they have is... every time you play there you accumulate reward points to use towards your next round. For the average golfer, getting $5 off after visiting there is a nice thing. The bar area is very nice. You get a hot dog at the turn when you show your greens fee. Nicole is a great item and person handling that area. She is very personable and fun to talk too.

I get it leagues make courses money, but they open up tee times after leagues and we pay too. And I'm talking they won't even do basic little things like have someone go out there and enforce ready golf. That alone would make a huge difference. I managed to get in six holes in two hours and 15 minutes today. If you choose to go on a weekday or during the weekend, this is a Great Course the greens are fast and firm and the course is always kept in great shape, although they are doing some pretty significant maintenance work around some of the holes it's still extremely playable. When there aren't leagues around this is probably a four maybe even five star public course. If you make the mistake I did going out and wanting to get in some golf on league nights (M-Th) it's a one star course, just go somewhere else.

I have supported this mom and pop golf course for over 30 years. However today was the last time I…read morewill walk or cart through that place. There was basically no one on the course. A "members" group was coming off 7 and cut in front on me as I was teeing off on 13. They let me "play thru" as one said. Yet another said are you going to tee off... as I was going through my routine. I call the clubhouse to ask is this something that happens on the course? She said it does and asked if they let me go through. I told her yes but I was hurried by the FIVE idiots to tee off quickly as they wanted to finish their round. I played the next two holes pissed but finished the remaining 4 calm. Yet the day at Maple Grove would end with the front end of my car being full of grass clippings when I arrived back.

The Regulation Course: It's a short course. The holes are almost all flat and straight. Trees line…read morealmost every hole, which is the main defense. That makes it a beautiful walking course. The greens are quicker than you'd think. The course was in great shape at the time of this review. For the $18 walking fee (weekend) it's a great deal. The downside is the pace of play can become an issue. With multiple areas of back-to-back par 3s, and the holes all short to begin with, it can become congested, and there were no marshalls out there policing the pace of play. Also, for it being so walkable there are no benches anywhere for walkers to sit out that wait. The Executive Course: A set of 9 par 3 holes built inside the regulation holes. 7 of the 9 are built into a thick canopy of trees. The trees overhang the fairway, which in some cases gives you no options other than a low punch shot. I'd like to see them trim away some of that overhang. But, it's a perfect course to take your kids out for a fun round. For the price point, this course is a real value.
