Highland was a great track when it opened in 1925 but it has been enhanced as a golf facility since the LPGA came in 1989. What pro golf left was a first rate course and practice facilities. After the complete bunker and hole redesign 4 years ago the Ross/Hills inspired routing is playable and modern. Burnt greens and clover/flowery fairways are common. Most of the carts are terrible as well. The other week I went, in fact, there were gnats all in the onions and relish that they had out in the club house too. SICK! But this last time I went was the last straw. My buddies were finishing the front 9 yesterday evening and myself and another friend decided to meet up and play the back 9 with them. We arrived to the course at 6:40pm where we were met by the rude cart guy who told us we couldn't play, course was closed. (Keep in mind there were 20+ cars in the lot and people everywhere on the course) Basically, told the old man we were going to the clubhouse and that it's crazy that a clubhouse would close this early with ppl still golfing! On our way up the worker from the club house stops us and says sorry were closed, nothing I can do, you should've called ahead. WHAT?!?! Its 6:40, plenty of time to get 9 holes in. He even denied us when I offered to pay him right there and just let us take a cart out. He was real rude and acted like he had to be somewhere. I could not believe it. I guess in conclusion the course is shit anyways, but for a club that's about to go out of business to turn money away is a joke. Probably won't be back there ever again. Bunch of idiots.

The Regulation Course: It's a short course. The holes are almost all flat and straight. Trees line…read morealmost every hole, which is the main defense. That makes it a beautiful walking course. The greens are quicker than you'd think. The course was in great shape at the time of this review. For the $18 walking fee (weekend) it's a great deal. The downside is the pace of play can become an issue. With multiple areas of back-to-back par 3s, and the holes all short to begin with, it can become congested, and there were no marshalls out there policing the pace of play. Also, for it being so walkable there are no benches anywhere for walkers to sit out that wait. The Executive Course: A set of 9 par 3 holes built inside the regulation holes. 7 of the 9 are built into a thick canopy of trees. The trees overhang the fairway, which in some cases gives you no options other than a low punch shot. I'd like to see them trim away some of that overhang. But, it's a perfect course to take your kids out for a fun round. For the price point, this course is a real value.
