    Rubberized jogging track
    Maria V.

I'm torn about how many stars to give this park... between 3 and 4.... I like the 2.2 mile rubberized jogging track that goes around the lake (for the most part) . It's very scenic and peaceful around the lake - although being smack in the middle of Newark and next to Rt 22. A few years ago, They re-did the track, placed new benches, new exercise stations and garbage cans around the lake and it was beautiful/clean for a while . Then shitty people had to start littering and ruin it. Parts of the track in some sections are falling apart. The area around the one large hill has been pretty much unreachable/unusable due to flooding over the last few years and not much has been done to fix it from what I see. I used to come all the time to jog the track because it really is a good workout when it's not flooded and is kept in great shape. Today I noticed that they planted pretty tulips near the entrance which is a nice touch. Other parts of the park - I see people doing picnics, there is a large track , golf course. I see people fishing sometimes too They put a brand new track with football field/turf and 2 new baseball diamonds . Really looks nice I see there is new construction by the golf course entrance ... wondering what else they will do.... hopefully fix the jogging track and the flooding. The park had always had a bad reputation from years ago ... but I have never had a problem. A lot of people working out and families frequent the lake . I would come here more often again if they would improve and keep it clean. Until then I will come very sporadically like I have been.

I've probably been coming to this park for 10+ years. It's always felt safe regardless of the fact that it's in Newark; unfortunately with Newark having a bad name some people may feel threatened or scared of coming here. It's literally a family friendly park and on any given day you normally see cops and/or state troopers riding through. Additionally, on the weekends there's always soccer and/or baseball games going on so the park always has people in it. One of the main reasons why I specifically come to this park is because there are several hills located throughout the park. This is a bonus because depending on which way you run, you can either get a fierce incline or decline in your workout. There are also several "workout stations" throughout the park so weather you are running or walking, you can stop along the way and do push-ups, sit-ups or pull-ups. There is also a diverse group of people that come here to work out some of which are very friendly. Just today as I was walking (trying to run lol) a guy that was running the park also seen me along the way and was encouraging me to push through! I didn't know this guy from a can of paint so it actually meant a lot that he was doing this and it motivated me to work a little harder in running that park! Also- the fact that he was kinda hot also made me feel good inside lol. Overall, it's a great place to be especially on the weekends and I would encourage anyone whose looking for a more challenging workout to come here. Not to mention, there's always cuties on the pull-up bars depending on what time of the day you come ;)

They have done plenty of updates and it has come a long way if the lights stay on longer and a few more updates would make it tremendous.

April is the time to go as they are in their peak bloom season. You will be rewarded with beautiful and scenic walking trails and picnic lunches under cherry blossoms. The park runs its annual Cherry Blossom Festival as well as multiple events such as the Cherry Blossom Bike Race Challenge, and the Cherry Blossom 10K run that happened last Sunday, April 12th. The weather was excellent, and there was plenty of community pride as everyone showed up. You can also be a spectator, should you choose to, if you don't want to partake in the run. Family Day will be taking place on April 18th. For those who wish to take in the scenery only, the Cherry Blossom Welcome Center renovation has been completed since last Fall of 2023. Inside, there are comfortable bathrooms, an artificial but exceptional-looking year-round cherry blossom tree in full bloom, and a souvenir center where you can purchase sweatshirts, t-shirts, etc. Proceeds benefit Branch Brook Park Alliance in care of the park, according to the Branch Brook Park's website. The entire Welcome Center has a modern and open feel throughout the building as it has plenty of natural lighting and high vaulted ceilings. As you enter, to your immediate right, you will find the gallery space with historical displays and a mural depicting the vast collection of cherry blossoms and their history. If you are ever in the area, this is absolutely worth a visit and yes, it is completely free.
