If you have a chance to walk through a Wegman's do it! I'm so happy I had a chance to jet through a location when I was on vacation! It was such a normal occurrence when I lived in NY, and now that I live on the West Coast, it so interesting that grocery stores are just grocery stores. I feel like every grocery store i attempting to meet the Wegman's standard. The environment is well decorated, the staff is well trained, the selection is on a different level. The produce section is where we zipped through and it's second only to a home garden. No cleaning of dirt required. The stores have always been clean, well maintained, and well stocked. Stopped in for lunch at 12:30 and chicken wings were empty. The guy told me that they weren't going to refill the station until 4:30. Went to get a sub instead and with two people in front of me ordering 1 sub each, took 10 minutes for my turn. Guy was asking what toppings and at the end asked what kind of sub so when I told him a steak, he gave me a smart ass answer about how I should have told him earlier and then had the other guy put my steak sub with mayo and veggies into the oven. This is my go-to Wegmans. It's between my job and my house and all I have in my town in Tops, which let's face it, is no Wegmans. At the Gates location, I am most likely to pick up something from the bakery, something from the prepared food bar, and then an extra coffee creamer. I also tend to peruse the olive bar at this location more than elsewhere, no idea why that is. Over the last year, I've found that this location has had less of a problem with the long lines they were plagued with. Smell a rose on your way out! We visited this Wegman's EVERY. SINGLE. DAY of our NY visit. We miss Wegman's since living in NC and now that we are in TX. We mainly came here for WEGMAN'S SUBS. What is it about these subs which make them so dang good?!?! Yes, we ate a sub each of the 3 days we were here. A "negative" was that the time it took to make the subs was quite lengthy each time. The workers can't multi-task and make more than one at a time so wait times ranged from 25-40 minutes each time we came. Got the kiddos some items from the hot foods bar- chicken tenders for our girls and lo mein for our boy. It's so nice to have so many options to suit everyone's taste. The other "negative" would be that we didn't feel the employees were he typical Wegman's-Friendly. Usually the staff is so helpful and pleasant. The Cafe cashiers all 3 visits were less than cordial. Who doesn't love Wegmans, right? I pretty much know the layout of each Wegmans and a 30 mile radius. My favorite Thing by Wegmans is that if you're in the store and you can't find an item, you can use mine and store directory and it will tell you what isle it is in. I use it all the time. Their prices are getting a little out of hand lately.. the wegmans brand items. It's rare that I go to another grocery store but when I do their prices are so much cheaper , and not just for their name brand but for the big brands. I refuse to go to whole foods stores... if you want to really see ridiculous prices go to those. I wish wegmans still had their video rental section, the red box SUCKS. They have a large variety of food that's ready to eat or ready to cook . I do enjoy their wegmans food magazine, giving ideas of what to cook. read more

Store manager and bakery manager are not there for the customer. Asked for them to fix my cake and they left a BIG HOLE in my funeral cake for my child. On top of that they scrapped off a vine that looked like male genitals. My sheet cake was murdered. Not an apology from them nor were they willing to correct it or refund me. ( Unfortunately I paid for the cake at the time I ordered it. Never again will I shop at this location in Gates Ny 14624 Lyell Ave. Very disappointed and crying my eyes out as if that wasn't enough of losing my baby girl. I'm New to this location and I thought it was smaller that the ridge rd store but I sure didn't notice It had all the great Wegmans sections There is salad, pizza, subs, Mediterranean, etc. the sushi section is big and well stocked They have soups and a hot bar. Cool!! there is the cafe with its own check out! Nice! A lots of prepared food right there There are 71 types of organic produce here. (So says the poster) The cheese section is huge and so is the beer section! The bakery is always making something and there cakes looked good When I got lost I asked for help and a staffer took me right to the hidden item I don't live here anymore so I love going into these stores. Wegmans isn't my favorite grocery store because the prices are relatively higher than other stores and now they moving to only sell their products. And some of those items I don't like. However, I do like their personally made things; cheese dip, donuts, subs. So I will adventure into here on occasion for one of those items. This Wegmans in particular is my morning stop on the way to work if it is my day to bring the treats. Opens super early so I can get the freshed baked goods for my co-workers. Never coming back. Tried to buy my beer and since my younger sister was in the line behind me so they said they wouldn't sell to me even though I was 22. Tried to go back later without my sister and they told me to screw off. My whole family used to buy only from Wegmans but I can tell you now we'll never be coming back. Great tasting cake, but called me less than an hour to pickup to let me know they could not use the photo I sent them. I think it would behoove them to review orders with photos sooner than the day of an event to let people know they can't use your photo. My son wanted a photo of a character that Wegmans doesn't have available. I provided a photo they couldn't use due to copywriting issues. This Wegmans location is an embarrassment to the Wegman family and brand. Full time in uniform Gates PD officer posted at the entrance because the cliental is so bad. We DO NOT feel safe in the store or in the parking lot! Now for the incompetent staff. Three kids watching a line of 12 customers trying to order subs while one kid moved at a sloth's pace. Oh. Let's talk about how much I like Wegmans so much just based on this branch alone. This is where I go every single Saturday to get groceries as it is only a ten minute drive from the house and I have never been let down. There is a wonderful selection of fresh produce, bakery goods (I recommend the muffins, they make my stomach smile), organics, and meat. I ended up developing a route I now use whenever I visit. I usually begin with the produce since it's right there when you walk in, then I move onto the bakery to get the muffins, then to the meat and bread, and after that, onto the remainder aisles for the boxed goods. All of the Wegmans branded food might turn you off if you hate generics, but Wegmans really does make the effort to make it taste better than the competition and most of the time, it really pays off. This has the older-style Wegmans look to it compared to the newer builds but the inside is nicely accessible and styled well. However, I was sadly disappointed that there was no Wegmans train but that stupid desire does not stop me from giving Wegmans a perfect store. What else can I say really? Go ahead and shop here and have what is called by the prospective employees, "The Wegmans Experience". read more

Everyone who is from upstate NY knows that Wegmans is a superior establishment that can be best described as the best of Trader Joes, Star Market, and Whole Foods combines times a trillion. Speaking of superior, you MUST experience their deli submarines (subs). They bake their bread fresh every day and they do not skimp on deli meats and all the fixins. It's just a couple exits off 490 from me (we live off Broad/Plymouth), and the supermarket is literally a block from the highway. Quick on, quick off. I like! Second, the parking situation isn't a hassle. You park near the store, you shop, you leave. You don't fight inner and outer battles with yourself and others as you try to mind read others' next steps. Third, it's big, the selection is standard, things are organized in a practical manner and it's clean. The check out lines are pretty quick too. The customers are a mix of people, but mostly families and couples who are seemingly down-to-earth and respectful of others. Don't be put off by Lyell Ave, this Wegs is a silent bullseye. Wegmans on Lyell ave is a great store that caters to the community is serves. The west side of the city is an Italian heavy area and Wegmans knows just what products are going to be demanded by these food centric families. Let's face it Italian cooking is the best ;). The store has one of the best bakeries of all the Wegmans, hands down. The produce section is plentiful and the other areas of the store are on par with what you would expect. The staff here is also some of the best from our area Wegmans. They are helpful, attentive, and know where everything is. If they don't they will find out. It's my local store so I'm bias but they keep it nice, clean, and control the rifraf that occasionally shows up. read more

I gave the Lyell Avenue 3 stars because the staff is not as friendly or helpful as my as my other Wegmans on Monroe Ave. Also they run out of groceries fast and they don't have the many of the products that my old store had. I make my list according to what is advertised on their website and the products are not available once you get to the store. I miss my old store because of the reasons above. read more

When did the greatest supermarket in the country start to suck? I shop sporadically but the past couple of times I've gone into Wegmans I've been unimpressed. Today: shelves empty, product I went there for not filled, and I had to put bags in my own cart even though 3 supervisory types standing directly in front of me watching. Worst of all, when you go onto their website, to send them an email, you have to set up an account to do so; what a hassle and unnecessary task. This Wegmans, like most all of them, is a very good store. I like how the flowers are up near the front. They often have security watching as you walk in. Not sure why because I've never had any problems there or even seen anything happen. It's a great place to get some food during my lunchtime break. You can order from the sub shop, choose a pre-made salad or sandwich, get something from the self serve buffet or order hot food. There are plenty of choices and you can start eating pretty quickly, which is important to people like me who don't have much time for lunch. The fruit, vegetables, groceries, and pharmacy are all very good. However I normally just get a few odds and ends here since it's not the closest location to my home. They also have a very good bottle and can return area. All of the machines accept both cans and plastic so you don't have to wait for a machine to open up. (those people that fill three or four shopping carts with bottles can take a while). It's a good place to stop for something quick or your weekly shopping. read more

This is for the Floral Department at Wegmans. My husband and I were married on April 21, 2017. I visited the floral department in Wegmans on Lyell Avenue a couple months before my wedding to discuss my bridal bouquet. At first, the floral department was easy to work with. The manager and I talked through my color scheme and looked at different flowers and together we came up with the perfect arrangement for my bouquet. The manager arranged for me to pick up my bouquet on the morning of my wedding and she informed me that my bouquet would be prepared the night before. It was a smooth process...until the actual wedding day. On the morning of my wedding, two of my bridesmaids went to Wegmans on Lyell Ave to pick up my bouquet and they were informed that the flowers I had picked out with the manager were no longer available. My bridesmaids called me with the news and I was so disappointed and I wondered why they hadn't contacted me in advance before the day of the wedding if they realized they wouldn't be able to complete what they promised. That was extremely unprofessional and it put me in a very tight situation because I had to figure out a backup plan over the phone hours before my wedding. In the end, the flowers Wegmans arranged in my new bouquet were nice, but they were very different than our original agreement and the flowers were not very fresh and some of the petals were wilted. To say I was disappointed is an understatement and I cannot confidently recommend the floral department at the Wegmans on Lyell Avenue because of this experience. I hope they demonstrate better service in the future. I wish I could have written this review even sooner for brides who may have used Wegmans floral services since last year, but unfortunately I've been away traveling a lot until now. I hope the Floral Department reviews and improves their services. read more

The reason I go to Wegmans is to get good service and to avoid long lines at Walmart. I just got done doing the reshop myself, putting everything I had back because the line was so long , it curved around the aisle. I don't know who the manager on duty is tonight but they need to get rid of that person because this is not the Wegman I know. Normally I like going to Wegmans but for the past several visit to this particular one, the staff have been grumpy and inattentive. Maybe they're not the top 100 company to work for anymore.
