Their rate is not terribly low but I figured it would work out considering that they might get me a better refund than, say, HR Block. They offered the rate plus an hourly for their individual preparation, and I agreed. After entering my documents, my agent learned about my small LLC started during the previous tax year, and requested the relevant documents to file the taxes for it. Great! It is a tiny business- it seems my agent is going to throw this in to maximize the return. 2.5 weeks later, after an update request, someone else from the company sends me a message informing me of an added $750 plus hourly (!!!) for the LLC filing. It had been 7 weeks of their collecting documents altogether, with no other information provided about my status/return. I told them this was unacceptable and that in order to continue they would need to wave the fee or offer a discount. They offered $200 off what would be an extra $1200 or so. I'm throwing them a 2 star for at least acknowledging a mistake and offering a partial refund. This is probably too generous considering I'm paying them $230 in hourly fees for absolutely nothing but stress. Went to HR block and got a nice return for maybe a quarter of the price.

Throughout 2019 I have maintained contact with this firm and convinced that not only my past issues totally resolved but that we also have taken the appropriate action to avoid any potential future problems. I appreciate his honesty but I'd remind him that I made a trip to his office & you should always treat everyone with some level of respect. Mind you, he still has no clue what my 2017 take home was. WTH is that. Can't help but think he prejudged me. Matter of a fact he recorded I use Turbo Tax. Wow. My advice to Robert is to commit the time you promise, 1hr, look at a person's return to understand their taxes, & let them come to a final conclusion if they would like to pay to your fee. Otherwise you have people like myself confused as to how you made your assessment that I wasn't worth taking on. Example, a family member dropped off all the docs 6 weeks ago for a straightforward tax return. Today is April 15th and The Tax Shoppe has still has not completed them after many many phone calls. Note that for the most part the 5 star reviews you see are from many years ago and the poor reviews are more recent. Prices have also risen. I do my own taxers now for a fraction of the cost.

After I mentioned living abroad, a question that they failed to ask and I had to mention. They at first said the estimated quote might be even higher than the current $800 quote for a W2 and a 1099-K! After days of waiting they emailed me back saying that "We are not going to be able to help you" AFTER they've TAKEN ALL of my personal and deeply sensitive information. This was confusing, as it is the first time I've ever been denied service by a business; without any explanation no less! I went in with such confidence, so it's been a huge bummer to have such a challenging experience, not only do I hope that my personal information has been deleted as per my request. It also puts me in a very difficult situation now of having to scramble to find another provider that can actually get the job done in a reasonable amount of time.

He misspelled one of our names and put the wrong address on our tax return, basic information that should absolutely be correct. When we asked to sit down with him for a few minutes to review everything and make sure it was accurate, he flat-out refused and became immediately nasty. At that point, we asked for our check back so we could have our taxes done elsewhere by someone who would actually give us the time of day. He told us he had already cashed it, so we asked him to write us a check. He did but then, as he was handing it to us, he pulled it back to make a copy. He then handed us the copy and sarcastically asked why we would need a copy of a check. When we said because he handed it to us, he responded, "Yeah, because I wanted to see how little you pay attention." It only got worse. He told us the only reason he agreed to do our taxes was because of who our family is, and that we couldn't possibly be related to them because we are "too stupid." When we reminded him that we were there because he made mistakes and that he should be apologizing instead of belittling us, he said "I don't apologize". Completely unprofessional, disrespectful, and unacceptable behavior, especially from someone handling something as important as your taxes. There is a reason this firm has so many one-star reviews. Do yourself a favor and stay far away.

On top of that, his bookkeeping is atrocious - He will send you bills even though you already paid him long ago . He will make appointments for you to come in and he doesn't show up.
