Top marks!!!!!! So this is a local store. I always look forward to digging here. Hard to say what I like best about it. If you are not-too-picky and willing to hunt around, this store is a gem. It has been in business forever. The building is ancient. The upstairs: foreboding. When I was a kid I'd call in to radio contests once in awhile and if you won you had to go claim the album in person. Quad Cities, Galesburg, and here - Burlington, at Weird Harold's. Very large collection of all genres. I routinely find a record here that blows my mind, that it was sitting on the shelf. For who knows how long. Pricing is excellent. Pls don't listen to the fool who complained about prices and political hats. Who cares. It's about the music, period. Yep-new albums are pricey. Welcome to reality. But the used records are priced very well. I have only once asked for them to relook a price and they agreed. Their pricing may be creeping upward but not by much. Where else can you go in south east Iowa to search through thousands of records AND pick out a costume for next halloween in June? (or any month for that matter) WEIRD HAROLD'S I have been here twice and both times i almost got lost in the upstairs record collection. There are 4 parts of this store, the first floor has a collection of CD's and some art and framed posters, the 2nd section is half way up the stairs and it is apparently a place to do your own pottery. Haven't checked that out yet but it could be fun. Continue up the stairs to see a GIANT collection of costumes, most of them for rental. If you're two hours away from here and have a costume party to go to, this is the place to go, it didn't seem expensive, like 25 to 50 bucks for a 5 day rental and then you don't clutter your closet with a Mr Potatohead costume. Finally to the right of that is the equally giant collection of records... I don't know you're taste so i won't say they have EVERYTHING but i was finding comedy albums that aren't even on CD. This store has so many items, mostly a music/art selection. I frequently shop here for records and incense sticks. It's a nice place, great staff that will answer any questions you may have, their very friendly and I strongly recommend this store to anyone. My dad used to shop here when he was my age, it's been a part of burlington for some time, and it's not hard telling why, it's just a great shop! And I cant wait to go here again! read more

In my days of collecting vinyl, I've been to two places that seriously overwhelmed me: Amoeba Records in Hollywood and Weird Harold's. The ground level had a decent amount, but when you go to the third floor, it's an absolute record overload! We're talking boxes upon boxes, and there is no way one person could look through the entire store in two days, let alone one. The varied genres included everything I could think of, from Classical to Country, Rock, International, Soundtracks, Instrumental, and on and on. I felt meager in the store, which is both good and bad. Some titles were overpriced, but I'm not dinging them on my review score, because I expect they'd be willing to cut some deals, since it's impossible to continually re-price all those titles! It was a pretty long journey for me to get there, but well worth it! I'm definitely going back sometime before the year is through. read more

This place is awesome! The record selection is unbelievable! Seriously, head upstairs and prepare to have your mind blown. The prices seem to be getting a little steeper but its not terrible. Keep an eye out for their sidewalk sale. It is beyond awesome. Fifty cent records with a HUGE selection. The quality of the records is pretty great too. One thing: prepare to sweat in the summer. Its on the third floor in an old building. It can be really hot up there. Its a cool old building with some fun decor. Check it out next time you're in Burlington. read more

I come here when I'm looking to treat myself to something nice. I collect vinyl and love combing through their new and used inventory. The staff isn't too nosy, which helps when you're just looking to enjoy yourself looking for music. They have any style you can think of and any artist as well. The only odd things about the store is walking through the costume rental section (feel eerie walking through old costumes!) and the lack of many new, younger groups. The selection is still excellent, and truthfully, asking for much more would be overkill. Keep up the good work for Burlington! read more

I've been shopping here for a very long time First off, it's a great store with a HUGE vinyl selection and used CD's and Tapes. New CD's are usually overpriced though. It must be tough competing with big box chains and Amazon. They make a lot of their money from new music now by selling music to people in prison. So back to the important thing: the vinyl. If you go here make sure you go all the way upstairs to where most of the vinyl selection is. Prices are varied, sometimes a little less than what you'd expect sometimes more. What would otherwise be a 5 star review becomes a 4 star one because of the grading, or over-grading of LOTS of selections. You simply have to closely inspect anything you think about buying. Of course you have to do this anywhere you buy vinyl, But some things you will pick up and and as soon as you pull it out you will see severe deep scratches, water damaged covers. Just very obvious things that should have been noticed at the time of grading and yet they will be priced as though they were NM. So with the combination of poor lighting upstairs and bad grading if you're not careful you can walk out of there with junk. They do have a guarantee so you can exchange for something of equal value if there's a problem but no cash refunds. read more
