This is the closest grocery store to my house, and it's handy in a pinch if I need a forgotten ingredient or a quick replenishment of staples. But as for shopping on the regular.... eh, I don't know about that. The complaints about the lack of customer service are spot on. Separate departments seem to fare better - the deli counter staff in particular are attentive, friendly and quick - but if you need help finding something, you'd be better off on your own. Pricing is right on the median - it's not expensive like Safeway or Wegman's, but it's not cheap like Shoppers, either (and definitely not on the level of Walmart Grocery). If you don't have their bonus card, get ready to be ripped off. I've also heard cashiers yell for management, stating at the top of their lungs that "their customer has a WIC voucher!" or "SNAP card!" NOT necessary and very humiliating. I've also heard complaints about some food being expired or spoiled, and I have to admit that this kind of makes me squeamish. Since then, I've tried not to purchase perishables like vegetables or fruit from here. There are some positives - it's never really crowded, so I can get in and out fast, and some of the products are actually surprisingly good (the Weis premium ice cream is amazing!). As mentioned, some of the staff are friendly and they do try hard, but you can tell them apart from the ones that don't. It's glaringly obvious. They're open super late too, until 11pm, so that really helps me out a lot. Still, all in all, I'm willing to drive a little further to the Quarterfield Road Walmart to make major shopping trips. It's a matter of price and I know that I can get fresh, quality food there. And if you use SNAP or WIC, I won't know because that's nobody's business but yours. read more

I hate self checkout, while spending money... I also hate seeing employees standing around doing nothing... with none at a actual register.

I thought I would try a crabcake today against my better judgment, it was awful. Lump crabmeat was scarce, more filler than crab. I made sandwich, it was like eating bread on bread, even though I put lettuce and tomato on it, threw it away and put roasted deli chicken breast on it. I do not recommend, they definitely need a taster and better recipe! read more

This will be my third poor review that I've written about this Weis & I hate that because it's never my goal, but I do want to warn people. The first review I wrote about my experience here being just ok due to the lack of customer service, but I complimented the store on being big, aesthetically beautiful & clean. My second review was written because I was just treated so rudely by the cashiers and the ladies responsible for watching the self checkout counter. Sometimes they don't even speak to you even when you speak first. But, that doesn't apply to everyone. This third review is because on three separate occasions now, I've purchased meat, once was the pre-made ground beef burger patties that I got and opened that day to grill as my family and I literally gagged from the odor. I immediately took it back and the staff was nice enough to replace it without giving me too many problems. The associate at customer service even gagged once she smelled it and said: "oh my God." The second time I purchased Lump Crabmeat. Opened it a day or so later and man oh man. It smelled so bad. I'm so glad I trusted my instincts and took it back, because I was using it to make a seafood salad for a party & I would've been responsible for making everyone sick. I took it back, one of the managers was nice enough to check in the back to see if there was any more Lump crabmeat bc all they had on the floor to replace it was a cheaper mixture. He went to the back and came out with another can of Lump & informed me that it was our lucky day, that we got the last can. I was so happy until I got home and smelled that this can of Lump crab meat was just as foul smelling if not worse than the first. Once again, I took it back only to have the staff be short with me like I was the problem. Like they couldn't smell the terrible odor right in front of them. Like I should just shut my mouth and eat spoiled meat. After being asked what I'd like to do, I simply requested a refund and went around the corner to a seafood store and purchased Lump crabmeat that was actually only $1 more but was delicious and fresh. Then I went back to the Weis again and purchased another package of premade burgers. I got super sick. Then I opened a pack of potato bread and while I know the employees that work at this particular Weis didn't package it, imagine my surprise when my children told me that plastic was baked into the bread? At this point it's become maddening how poor my experiences at this Weis has been. From poor customer service to terrible sickness inducing meats to packaged food that could've actually harmed my child. I am VERY disappointed in this store. read more

Weiss is convenient for me to pick up small items and play my lottery. The store do not honor the sign posted for their opening hours, everytime I go there no one is at the Customer Service Desk. The Manager have expressed on several occasions how he hate that the lottery machine is at the desk and cannot wait for it to be taken out. The manager tell me to use the manual lottery machine or he tells his associates to tell customers it is off line. I made an internal complaint on 5/21/23 and has yet to hear back from the corporate office as of this date 06/15/23. You walk in and no one greet you, I will speak to an associate and they don't even speak back. The prices are higher than the nearby stores and meat has expired and the store still try to sell it at a sale price. However, if I go to the meat department the guy that work in that department is very friendly and helpful. He appear to enjoy his job unlike some of the other staff. I believe the associates isn't professional or friendly because of their managers. I cannot blame the associates for standing around on their phones not assisting customers, when one of their managers do the same thing. I like the convenience of this Weis but i think it's pretty expensive. I would rather shop at Food lion in comparison of the prices and deals.So I'm only giving it 3 stars because of the coinstar and being able to get rid of old change. I love that the staff are wearing masks and they are trying to promote social distancing with signage and hand sanitizer but the checkout lines are failing horribly. There is maybe a 3 foot wide piece of plexiglass that covers the end of the conveyor belt. It is absolutely useless because you have to come within 3 feet of the cashier to reach for you bags and pay for your goods. I called the shift manager over to ask her what was the point of the glass if it doesn't cover a reasonable amount of the area where customers interact with the cashiers. She agreed that the partitions were basically useless and said it was a headquarter directive. Seems like the folks in there cushy office jobs don't really care about the patrons that are literally paying them. read more

I have been to Weis a very few times and it's always been gross and weird, however, tonight it was off the chain. It was snowing all day and I decided to go to Weis instead of Waugh Chapel Safeway because I didn't want to drive that far. First off - why is it so dark in this store? Is this a methadone clinic disguised as a supermarket? I got the few items I needed and got in one of the 2 lines open at 6pm. I was #5 in the line. The cashier was missing... seemingly wandered off into the Weis abyss. There was an older woman standing there who had already been rung up but apparently the cashier didn't have $0.82 to give her in change so he stood there helpless as another employee hobbled off to find the manager to get change. The customer stood there for literally 15 minutes waiting for 2 employees - who are adults - give her $0.82. Could they not have given her a dollar and suffered the consequences?? It was just an idiotic display of ineffective management. Fast forward to my turn to be rung up - I asked to enter my phone number in lieu of presenting a Weis bonus card. I gave the cashier my phone number. He typed it in and said - it doesn't work. What doesn't work? Your number. I don't know what to tell you, I have used the card here before...? ..... and then I encountered the blankest deadest stare I may have ever experienced. The cashier was frozen in time, helpless. He stared at me for probably 30 seconds until I finally said - CAN YOU USE YOUR CARD OR WHATEVER STORE CARD YOU HAVE? To which he decided to turn to the other customers in line, raise his voice and say, DOES ANYONE HAVE A CARD SHE CAN USE? To say it was unprofessional would be a compliment. I will never go to Weis again. It's a gross store with semi-conscious people manning the registers. I really cannot express enough how gross this place is. read more

Very convenient location - especially if you live in Seven Oaks - and a good selection of products. The staff are mostly very friendly. But, and this is a big but, you have constantly be on your guard to make sure you don't pick up products that are at worst, expired or, at best, past their use by dates. I go there because it's walking distance from my apartment complex, but just about every other shopping trip, I see something on the shelves that shouldn't be there. Today it was a bottle of orange juice marked USE BY NOV 27 (it's December 4), and a package of bagels marked SELL BY DEC 2. On prior trips, I've pulled jars of pasta and tubs of cream cheese from the shelves with use by dates that are months past. Happily, I will be moving soon, and won't ever have a need to shop there again. read more

I had a very bad experience at this Weis on New Years Day at 1230 that I'll never forget. I had a cart full of groceries, over $350 worth and when I got to checkout there were no workers at the register. So after waiting a few minutes I decided I had to go to self checkout. Now half way thru ringing up my groceries I noticed that I had began to sweat. I also noticed that their were at least 3 workers standing around watching me ring up my groceries. So I asked one of them to get the manager. By the time he showed up I was done ringing up my groceries. He said, "Is there a problem"? I said, "Yes, I don't work here". He looks at me confused. I removed my hat and said, "I am sweating my butt off ringing up my groceries and I'm not getting paid to do so". He replies "well your in self checkout" I replied "Because you had no employees at the registers". His response was "Well you see all the employees standing around, all you had to do is ask for help." I then said, "It's my job to keep your employees gainfully employed, are you kidding me". I can tell my blood pressure was rising because after he repeated himself I felt the need to make a scene but instead I decided to just leave. But I tell you this, I wont be going back anytime soon. I go to Weis because it is the closest store to us. (Now that Wegman's has opened though, we happily make the trip to Waugh Chapel!) It gets no more than two stars because it is smelly, scary at night, and the customer service is horrendous. I always feel like I'm interrupting some sort of employee soiree when I am ready to check out. Also, there are rarely enough registers open - and usually no express. I have started going to the customer service desk to check out on a regular basis. Weis gets no less than two stars because of its convenience, the awesome music they play (not sarcasm... I don't know who is running the music there, but if I had to guess I'd say it was a 20-something hipster), and the ethnic food section. read more

I shop here for odds and ends when I go the long way home, not great, not bad but ok. But I say lately I've seen a little more customer service in the store, prices run like a mix between Safeway and Giant, can be more expensive than let's say a Shoppers, but they do have good sales on canned, bottled, frozen stuff. And lots of buy one get one freebies at times. So, I'm a person who shops in batches, one week maybe meat, another frozen and canned goods..... and I'll go wherever the sale is. I've seen a 12 year old cash a check here, with her 5 year old brother in tow. I've seen some old lady ignore the line and cut in and because she didn't speak any english, no one bothered her. I've seen the manager ask me to go to another line, get there and he says "sorry, I can't open this check out lane"...I give up. I will say, they have low low prices in the ethnic food isle, and ofcourse their "forever coupons" are good...if I ever remember to bring 'em. Possibly the worst customer service of any grocery store I've ever walked into. The folks working the register are so slow and disaffected they don't even bother to make eye contact or greet you. They just stand there and sigh. It is as bad as the DMV. The last time I was in the checkout line, the girl was talking over me to her pal in the next register complaining about how as soon as she walks in she's "bombarded" by a huge line customers. Welcome to the real world, honey! It's a grocery store, not a nail salon! Maybe if they opened up more than two registers at a time they wouldn't have that problem. Omg where to start with this place. I know why the parking lot is always empty the store employees are HORRIBLE!!! Especially customer service and the front end cashiers! they don't give a crap about customers or doing their job. they will look away and talk to each other or other store employees that just stand up front and lean on the registers and completely ignore the customer. I see why the store looks so terrible. all the employees seem to always be on break. I literally saw a woman sleeping behind the service counter. she was sleeping and nobody in the store cared that their employee was sleeping! what the heck, sign me up for this place I can get paid to sleep on the clock! Don't ask anyone in the store to help you find anything, even the grocery evening manager had no clue where to find an item I was looking for, eventually he shrugged and said uhhh check down there and walked away. I can say that I ordered a cake from there one time(foodlion couldn't do a last minute cake) and I was pleasantly surprised by the woman who made my cake and she seemed pretty attentive to what I wanted on the cake. I ordered 12 bags of chicken for an event that we were holding at the Friendship Station Senior Apartments in Odenton.The deli staff of Weis Markets (especially Courtney) were most helpful. The order when it was delivered was more than I expected and the residents loved it. Quite a few of our residents shop at Weis anyway, but this gave them a different outlook on your store. The only reason I go here is because its the only Grocery store near me, If I need something fast I go here or to Royal Farms, if not then Walmart. All the employees here are suuuper slow and seem that they don't care about anything. Every time I have gone there has only been 1 Or 2 lanes open out of like 10 or something. Cashiers are always deep in conversation and not concerned about customers. When do decide to check you out they act as if they are doing you a favor. I've been to Weis roughly a dozen times. It's common to see 8-10 people in a line, and only two or three cashiers running at a time. They're always understaffed, and when they're busy, their staff moves like turtles. Their management is always yelling across the store instead of walking over and talking to people, and I've asked for help numerous times and gotten the line, "oh, sorry, I'm not in that department". EVERY time I've grabbed a package of meat/poultry, the bottom of it is drenched in blood or slimey chicken juices. If you go there for a single item, be prepared to find it yourself, and stand in line for 15-20 minutes before leaving. Food Lion, just 2-3 miles away, is WAY better on all accounts. We just found Food Lion about six months ago, and we'll never go back to Weis. If you're in the military, the commissary is better than Weis too. It's a bit hectic, but the prices are better, and the food is always fresher than it is at Weis. read more

I actually like this place, but I don't come here very often. Being a military spouse, I normally shop at the Commissary. If I'm too lazy to go on post, I'll go here. I have received WONDERFUL service from the deli section in the past, and the cashiers have always been friendly. One time I purchased a tub of macaroni salad for a BBQ, and the next day I got a PHONE CALL from the store to inform me not to eat the stuff as it could possibly be contaminated with a foodborne illness. What grocery store does that? I thought that was really cool, and fortunately our BBQ hadn't happened so the salad had yet to be eaten (whew!). I returned the salad and received a full refund. I also received a ridiculously sincere apology from the manager on duty which was totally unnecessary (I'm just glad I got a call). It also helps that the store gives a military discount on certain days of the weeks, so thanks for that too. I will continue to shop here whenever laziness sets it. read more

Really surprised at how good this is. Not a great location, and from the outside has the feel of a much cheaper, lower-quality store (ie SuperFresh). However, nice selection of fresh produce, very good bakery (bread that doesn't feel like a soft sponge - yay!), and a very wide variety of other goods.
