The dentist does not pay attention to your concerns and hurries you in and out. I believe this is a widespread issue in healthcare today. Consider visiting a non-corporate dentist. You will likely be more satisfied, as they genuinely care for their patients, unlike this facility. Last year, I had eight cavities filled by them, only to later see a new dentist who informed me that I had no cavities, and they had drilled into perfectly healthy teeth. I returned to discuss my TMJ issues, but she rushed me through the appointment. She mentioned sending me to physical therapy, but I expressed my preference for injections, to which she replied that she would refer me to a TMJ specialist. When I contacted them, I was told that Naos PT does not provide injections and does not accept my insurance, despite my dentist claiming otherwise. I have decided not to return to this place, and it frustrates me how little they seem to care.

However, after arriving for my appointment, I was informed that my X-rays were "not sufficient" and that the office would need to perform their own X-rays before treatment could continue. After speaking with the office manager, who explained that new X-rays were necessary for proper treatment, I agreed. Before the X-rays were taken, I requested a lead vest with a thyroid collar, which is standard safety practice in dental offices. The hygienist placed a vest on me, but I immediately noticed that it was damaged in several areas. The cracks and worn sections clearly compromised the integrity of the protective shielding. I politely expressed concern about the condition of the vest and requested a safe, undamaged replacement. I was then told that this was the only thyroid-collar vest they had available. I even asked whether two vests could be layered for additional protection and peace of mind, but instead of addressing my concerns professionally, the office ultimately wanted me to leave. As a patient, I do not believe it is unreasonable to expect basic radiation safety equipment to be maintained in proper condition. I also do not appreciate being told one thing before my appointment and then being pressured into additional imaging once I arrived. Overall, the experience left me feeling dismissed and uncomfortable rather than cared for as a patient.

Several years ago, Dr. Tucker retired and sold the practice to another dentist. It seems like the practice changed hands a few times, as I felt like I saw a different dentist every visit for a while. While I was in college, I got some new retainers made by Dr. Tucker to help with grinding teeth at night, etc. The invisalign machine came with 4 sets of these retainers. I took two of the sets home with me, and the staff assured me that they would keep the other two sets safe for when I needed them down the road. As I was in college at the time, moving around a lot, I agreed that that sounded like the safer option. After Dr. Tucker's departure, I inquired about by retainers, and the new staff informed me that anything they had kept for anybody was gone, and nobody knows where it went. No clue who - if anybody - is at fault here, but it's upsetting to me that something of mine, that was not cheap, was lost. In addition to the retainers, I found myself getting contrary advice about the types of fillings that Dr. Tucker did. I got some silver fillings, which Dr. Tucker assured me were the better option as they would last longer, about 20 years. Now, maybe 4 years later, I'm hearing that I need to redo these fillings. The people here are great! Appointments run very smoothly, everything is very comfortable. Due to this string of events, I have decided to seek dental work elsewhere, and get a fresh perspective on the silver fillings.

I kept thinking that maybe Dr Jim was having a bad day,... I was hoping that my next visit would be a much better experience. Sadly, each time I was there, He lacked professionalism beyond words. There were times that as I'm getting worked on, he had the dental assistant in tears. She "wasn't holding the tools right", or he snapped at her for not being fast enough, & there were times he grabbed her hand aggressively to put the tool where he wanted it. It was very awkward witnessing this as I'm laying back in the dentist chair, all of this going on above me just inches from my face. Not to mention, feeling embarrassed for the dental assistant. The work I had done also had me returning after my new crown fell off after only a few days. I finally changed dentists and am so glad I did! I set up monthly payments on THEIR site despite that. The company the monthly payments are done through showed me they paid them, and they are still harassing me over the bill that's been paid. They didn't apply it to my account. Just stay away. The billing issues with this place are a constant nightmare. I'm so close to filing a BBB complaint. It's been constant issues with billing.

Her office has a calming atmosphere for a dental office. The chairs you sit in while receiving services/treatment are comfortable and she has TVs in each room so you can distract yourself from whatever treatment you're about to receive. Her office is great about getting back in touch with you. My husband had a sudden toothache and left a message about the pain he was in. Dr. Hill responded same day. Now, Dr. Hill is busy so getting an appointment can be difficult at times, but generally, you should be able to find a spot that will work for you. I'll definitely remain a patient for the foreseeable future. Oh...and Dr. Hill is a graduate of the Alabama A&M University so that's a major plus to me!

After I got married, my new wife switched over to him, after hearing about my experiences with Dr. Moulton. I don't know if he is taking new patients, but if you need a great dentist, you can take comfort knowing he is one of Birmingham's best.

The next morning a friend reached out to his dental office, Birmingham Smiles, and I was provided emergency care within a few hrs. My distress was obvious, but all staff were warmly special and helped to de-stress me. Excellent, and expedient care was provided by Mary and Dr Nolan. Best of it all was their comforting understanding together with "okay let's get this taken care of." Tooth is out, pain is subsiding and I am so grateful to all the staff at Birmingham Smiles.
