This is my favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh. We went here for my graduation dinner and it was amazing!!! We got soup, salads, meats, pasta and so many drinks! I love their vodka rigatoni so much!!! The salmon was cooked perfectly!! The beef Wellington was perfect and so tasty!! Our server was nice! The inside was clean and very cool looking! Please try this place!

The food was excellent. The tartare was one of the best I've had I just didn't love the bread they served it with. I ordered a dirty martini and asked for a regular olives but it came with blue cheese olives. We put in our appetizer and didn't see our server for at least 20 minutes, we finished our app before she came back to take our order. The steak was cooked perfectly but server disappeared again. Overall food was great, ambiance was fine, service was terrible.

Food was amazing!!!! I haven't been here in years.... I'm from Chicago and recently moved. We came here late after an event and they are open til 10pm. It was a Tuesday. We sat at the bar where Keith waited on us. Great experience, nice chatter and service. The ambiance was just perfect. Good music too. I recommend if you never have been. The menu is very flavorful and plenty. Yummmm yummy Bon Appetite. Nice size menu too with variety for a pondering palette

Wow, what a Pittsburgh gem I'd never visited before! We were wandering around searching for dinner in the city, and we came across this place online. Luckily the kind host was able to get us on the wait list on a Friday night, and we were able to get a table! I wish I had more photos, but we enjoyed wine, bread, some apps, and I had a great steak! Our server was delightful and so kind. The food all hit the spot, and I can't stop thinking about great the thin fries were! Everything was great quality, and the low light ambiance was intimate and cozy. I'd add this place onto my list of places to return to in Pittsburgh for sure!

We had reservations at 5pm for four people. Since we went right when it opened, it wasn't busy yet. The inside has a rustic feel with things like plaid chairs and antlers. It consists of a very nice bar area and several tables. We asked to sit outside since it was nice out which was our mistake. DO NOT SIT OUTSIDE ON THEIR PATIO. If you're prone to getting bit by mosquitos, you WILL get bit. We were outside long enough to order food (I looked at the menu online ahead of time and knew what we wanted to family style) and it was enough for me to get NINE very painful mosquito bites. We asked to move inside very quickly and they were accommodating. After that the meal went uphill. Every dish we got was delicious and my favorites were the tomahawk steak, the rigatoni, the Mac and cheese, and the truffle fries. Both desserts were delicious.

We had a few starters. Truffle fries and bruss sprouts were the starts. The wedge salad was great. No misses. Balsamic potatoes outstanding. The service spot on. Drinks : my mezcal negroni was tasty and thrme pinot noir went well with the chop as suggested by waitress. The main: pork chop smokey tender more than filling. Collards!! Nough said.

Black Tie Manhattan (101 bourbon, mezcal, averna, vermouth rough, bitters)

Seated via OpenTable Reservations Food & Drink: 5 / 5 - Mixed Drink(s): Black Tie Manhattan: Every now and then I like to lean into the personality that comes with a mixed drink and if you prefer a touch of old-school charm, I would recommend a Manhattan. The bartender that evening definitely hit the mark of sophistication that comes with this drink while allowing me to maintain the persona of a "manly man". Clover club (Waitress recommendation): On this evening, I was attending a musical at Benedum Center, so as a result I knew that I could delve in a couple more drinks. Anyone who knows me knows that my favorite thing to do at any restaurant is ask my waiter or waitress for recommendations and she did not disappoint me. I am not a "sweets" person, but this drink was like drinking liquid candy. This reminded me of one of my favorite hard candies that I used to get from my grandma, Arcor Strawberry Filled Bon Bons. I loved this drink so much that I ordered two. - Food: Appetizer - Shrimp scampi: This was the night's special and even though to this day I still cannot say that any seafood in the state of PA is the best, since it is a landlock state. However, I can say this did not disappoint. The side of sourdough bread meshed well with the juice that remained. Entree - Filet Mignon (Medium rare): Steak steak steak....and more steak. Everywhere you turn in Pittsburgh, there is probably a steakhouse within a mile and everyone believes their steak is the best. Although, as any steak lover knows, it is not just the presentation that matters, but how well you prepare it and I can say this steak was definitely prepared well. It was very flavorful and the only issue I had was that there wasn't anymore. It was served with a side of potatoes that were perfectly crispy on the outside while being soft and warm on the inside. Dessert - Pot de crème w/ cookies: By the time I reached dessert, I could tell I was already in my "happy place". I could've eaten a banana as dessert and thought it was amazing, but knew that wouldn't be fair to you all. So, while I waited for them to prepare this dish, I cleansed my pallet with A LOT of water. Overall, it was divine, even though I couldn't pronounce it. My only regret was not dipping my cookies.... Post-dessert - Caesar Salad w/ White Anchovies: As usual, I have a distorted sense of how long it takes to kill time before a show, so we kept it basic and went with the old classic, Caesar salad. However, before my waitress walked away she highly recommended I add anchovies. I know, anchovies on a salad?? no....but actually...yes. The texture and flavor added that kick to the grass we all know they pulled from the ground in the small garden in the back. Service: 5 / 5 - Normally, I rarely have an issue with any service at the restaurants that I go to. I am a very simple person, bring me my food, check on me every now and then, don't show me my bill, and be able to answer any questions that I may have. However, this waitress was definitely up there with service that I would love to expect every time I go. She was very attentive, gave me amazing recommendations, and was able to maintain a basic conversation. She definitely went above and beyond, and her tip reflected that. Whenever I return, I wouldn't mind having her as a regular. Vibe: 5 / 5 - Right off the bat, Meat & Potatoes set the bar high. The host was very friendly and made banter to break that simple awkwardness that exists when you walk up to a restaurant initially. What even made it better, was the existence of what I call a "hype man". The moment this person appeared, he made it known of the vibe that would be set that evening. Normally, I try to avoid eating at the bar because I enjoy the interaction you get from a waiter or waitress, but they almost did sell me on it. Overall, this place definitely gives you that trendy, but classy experience. Overall: 5 / 5 - Whenever I go to a restaurant, my motto has always been, "every experience is a new experience". Just because I give five stars this time, doesn't mean it is always guaranteed. However, it would be an injustice if I gave this place anything, but five stars. From the moment I arrived, to the moment I left, I was immersed in the trendy, but classy experience that Meat & Potatoes had to offer. Definitely plan to return, and try other items on the menu. Hopefully, my next experience is just as enjoyable. Recommend? Yes

    Tuna tartare
    Evie N.

Where to start?! My husband and I were visiting Pittsburgh for the Steelers game, while researching restaurants this was a top contender, and it did not disappoint. It is a small intimate restaurant, cool decor on the walls, and welcoming staff. Our server was so sweet and helpful, gave great recommendations during our dinner. To start we got the tuna tartare- probably one of the best tuna tartare I've had. The rice cake was so light and airy, while the tuna was perfectly flavored and fresh. For dinner, we split the filet mignon which came with scalloped potatoes and we ordered a side of mashed potatoes. My husband is a mashed potatoes snob, he literally licked the plate. We ordered our filet medium rare, it was cooked to perfection and really loved the mushrooms on top. The scalloped potatoes were also divine, so crispy on the outside but fluffy on the inside. Would highly recommend and return if staying longer!

Pig candy, collard greens, Steak & Frites, Mac & cheese
    Talor B.

If you're into comfort food with a fancy twist, this spot is a must-try. The vibe is super cozy--dim lighting, modern decor, and just the right amount of fancy without feeling over the top. I ordered the pig candy and it was tasty. The meat could have been a little more tender it practically was a pork chop with a crispy, caramelized edge that added just the right amount of crunch. The mac & cheese was rich, could have been a little creamier , and topped with a Cheeto crust that made every bite extra satisfying. Together, the two dishes hit all the comfort food notes but with a little extra flair. The collard greens I tried were a standout, too. Smoky, a little vinegary, and perfectly cooked--not mushy, just hearty and flavorful. You could tell a lot of love went into making them. The staff was friendly and on point, and the overall vibe made it great for a chill dinner with friends or a low-key date night. This spot nails that balance of comforting and elevated. Definitely going back for that pork belly!

Modern gastropub serving delicious New American dinners, diverse brunch items & creative cocktails. Located in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh, within walking distance of the Cultural District.  A warm and welcoming space that features comfort foods, along with classics with a twist and simple dishes that are satisfying. Their mixed drinks are rustic and inventive- very thoughtful and tasteful! Had the Caramel Appletini Cocktail, Welsh Rarebit, Fried Brussels, Rigatoni Alla Vodka, Shrimp and Grits Every single thing was incredible, full of flavor & perfectly curated with spices! Highly recommend grabbing tickets for a show& making a reservation at Meat and Potatoes!

Meat & Potatoes completely lived up to the hype. The vibe is warm and welcoming, and the service was excellent from the start. Our waiter mentioned right away that the Beef Wellington would take about an hour, so we ordered it early. It came out right on time--and it was hands down the best Wellington I've ever had. We also tried the tuna tartare and wagyu carpaccio, both of which were fresh, perfectly prepared, and melt-in-your-mouth good. If you're looking for a memorable meal in Pittsburgh, this place is absolutely worth it.

    Is it busy during brunch?

I've never been during brunch, but M&P is usually busy. I would recommend making a reservation ahead of time if you know when you'll be going there. You can easily do it online. I've never had a problem.

Okay, coming in 8 hours from out of town for my boyfriends birthday and am having a lot of trouble deciding between making reservations at Meat & Potatoes and Butcher and the Rye? Can anyone help a girl out?

They are equally good in their own ways. Perhaps see which menu calls you to more, or which one has openings for a reservation? Not super helpful in narrowing it down for you, but it's a tie for me. Go to both :-)

    Any gluten free accomodations?

I have a dairy allergy (surprisingly more difficult to accommodate than gluten in many cases) and the servers here have been amazing. I’m sure you’ll find plenty of options.

Going here for a birthday date night with the boyfriend is there any special requests revolving seating I can make?

Get reservations very early. Seating to left of entryway gives an outside view. If 4 or more people there is a separate side room for groups. Call early.

LOVED our dinner at this place…read more We came here for dinner while visiting Pittsburgh. The first thing that struck me was the interior decor. Very industrial and moody with an open kitchen/preparation area that adds some intrigue. I do like to see the happenings of what's going on as someone with zero attention span. Service was excellent. George was fantastic. He kept a close eye on us without being overbearing. He anticipated what we might need so we didn't spend one second waiting to order anything. The menu is not endless or overwhelming which, presumably, allows them to focus on the items that are listed. I have decision panic so it was kinda nice to have less things to choose from. They asked if there were any allergies or dietary restrictions so I mentioned my vegetarianism. George went through the menu and pointed out the vegetarian options including what seems like it is vegetarian but isn't. They had TWO vegetarian entree options and fortunately the non-mushroom one was something I probably would have ordered anyway: pesto with walnuts, arugula, and a very generous amount of grated cheese. To start, I ordered the Brussels sprouts whichc I was warned had fish sauce. This was fine but nothing that blew me away. GF, on the other hand, loved this. GF ordered the wedge which was brought to our attention as vegetarian with the bacon on the side, which was her request. We ended up sharing both, a large part of that was because hers came out first and I couldn't wait but I'm so glad because the wege was FANTASTIC. The dressing? holy fuck pure ecastasy. The wedge was more like a filet shape which was much easier to eat. Who decided on the wedge shape anyway? The lettuce was so fresh and crisp and went wonderfully with that orgasmic dressing and breadcrumbs. Back to my pasta. Also delectable. Noodles were al dente. The sauce was creamy and packed that pesto umami flavor. The walnuts were a really nice contrast in texture. Everything about it absolutely fucking slapped. GF ordered the mushroom entree which came served on a bed of barley which, don't mind if I do, had a few forkfuls to "sample" for "my review". Again, so fucking good. Because it was my birthday, George provided a dessert (yuzu maybe?) that was served inside a meringue-esque igloo, creamy perfect balance of sweet and tart custard with some berry business underneath. Wonderful. I almost forgot their spectacular cocktails! Holy shit, literally they have a CORN CHIP cocktail that I could not pass up. It comes with two massive cornchips on top of a flavored foam. When you bring the glass up to sip, the cornchips are right in front of your nose and their aroma sets the stage for the drink which was STRONG. It wasn't as corn chip forward as I expected but I understand that flavor is probaly hard to create. For my second drink, I ordered the blue one which was refreshing, light, and really good. GF ordered a spritz which was gorgeous "it was good". For second round, I picked out some uranium thing that was very cucumbery, GF says, "it was good". I just read it outloud to her. "it's true!" Fantastic meal at a great place.

We basically tried everything on the menu so I have a true right to throw five stars. Tried every cheese. Scallops, crab cakes and the tartare were best apps, calamari solid as well. Of the salads I'd opt for whichever had the crème fraiche dressing. Of the entrees the standout was the short rib, but the strip steak did some business as did the black cod. We tried every single dessert as well. The candy bar was a crowd favorite, followed by the tart and toffee pudding. Now imagine this, all different taste buds across many differently lands (but not seas.) Everyone please with their meals. But does it really matter if they were? I was very, very frustrated. I had been glancing at their menu on Yelp and saw some tacos that I wanted to try, unfortunately the restaurant cut their menu back to only five tacos to choose from. I'm guessing to simplify things for the Draft crowd that they anticipated coming. Our server finally came to take our drink order and after so long we knew what we wanted. The server wasn't exactly friendly or attentive. We started with street corn as an appetizer, it was awesome. My wife had the chicken tacos and didn't like them. She said they were mushy and had an off flavor that she didn't enjoy. I had the birria tacos. They were not bad, they didn't come with any sauce/juice as all the other birria tacos I've ever had typically come with. I have to say, I was disappointed in the menu being reduced and other than the street corn app., just wasn't impressed. The service was not good, my wife's taco were bad and my were okay. Currently, during the winter, examples of menu items are small plates (e.g., roasted beet salad and heirloom carrots), mid courses (e.g., linguine and blue-bay mussels), large plates (e.g., sesame soy-glazed eggplant, pork chop, and picanha), desserts (e.g., pistachio cake and Kahlua fudge brownie), and alcoholic beverages (e.g., cocktails, mocktails, wines, and beers). For my husband and me, I made a reservation for dinner through the Resy website. I chose from options of the dining room, a four-season patio with awnings and heaters, and a chef's counter with a view of the kitchen. Please note that although the foods are upscale, the dress code seems to be smart casual. We parked our vehicle in a lot a short walk away. Upon our arrival to the restaurant, a seating hostess promptly greeted and seated us. Our server provided courteous and attentive service, such as taking our order and bringing our foods on time, refilling our waters, and cleaning my crumbs. We started with a Crab Cake with decent amount of crab meat, mushroom duxelles, tasty truffle aioli, and a side of arugula salad. My main course was Branzino with sides of beans-vegetables and parmesan cornbread. My husband's main course was Duck Breast with a blood-orange demi-glace, asparagus, and potatoes. I thought that everything tasted very good. The total price was $96 plus tax, 3% credit-card surcharge, and tip.

We had a private event for 10 people at Fig and Ash on Friday. There's a small private event room…read moreif you go all the way to the back of the restaurant and downstairs. There is also a bathroom down there. Their default event menu is family style for basically everything so we only had to pick our desserts. They changed our plates and silverware between courses. The food was pretty good! I really enjoyed the salad, carrots, bucatini, and miso. I thought the meatloaf and steak were decent. The desserts were pretty good. My only small critique is that it was awkward splitting some of the mains family style due to there being an awkward amount of some items. For example, there was 10 people but eight pieces of miso so it was a little tricky to split.

Each individual restaurants (there are 5 I believe) offer everything from Mexican food, to American fare like burgers, to fried chicken, salads, fish etc. I ordered from the fried chicken stall and my food was phenomenal! Freshly made to order, nothing staged or sitting under a heat lamp. The bartenders were awesome and cheery. My son was with us and even though there is alcohol served here all of the patrons were kind and polite. No drunken riff raff. The dining area is set up like cafeteria seating where you just grab a table anywhere and eat. There are waiters who will also bring food/drinks to you and collect your dishes after you are done. The restrooms were also clean and well maintained. This is a great family friendly place or if a group of friends wanna hang out have a few drinks and chat. There's food options for everyone here, so you're not stuck picking 1 restaurant where everyone in your group might not want to eat the same thing.. I will definitely be back!

I went there with a small group of families/kids after an outing at the Children's Museum; it was great to be able to walk over to an easy lunch that was better than the museum cafe. We'd probably come back just for this convenience. But I can also see how Federal Galley could have a sports bar feel when a Bucco or Steeler game is going on nearby. That said, the food was just ok. Portions were huge, but the dishes were kind of basic with a ton of sauciness/goopiness. My burrito from Mijo had a ton of chicken but not much in terms of beans and rice and no veggies or garnishes. My wife got a huevos rancheros bowl that just had mountains of sauce; it filled her up, made her very thirsty, and made a huge mess. The kids cheese burger and fries from Triple S was just fine for my daughter but, again, basic.
