    Selection of frozen meats
    Nick S.

This is a frequent stop in bellaire Chinatown when we need fresh produce or snacks. The store is generally clean, well stocked, and easy to navigate. Their prices are reasonable and they sometimes have good sales on produce (bok choy, taro, and various greens). It's a full line market with a separate live seafood section as well. There are some other markets that have more selection or more of a wow factor. I've found that the best approach is to visit a couple different markets (such as produce at one and proteins and frozen foods at another) when we do our shopping and make an afternoon out of it.

Place is clean and organized. I like that they have pre made food and that you can order lunch combos. Staff were efficient with checking us out. Aisles are easily marked so you can find what you're looking for. Plenty of parking outside. They have a wide variety of meats and seafood.

    Leek buns

I'm absolutely ecstatic right now! I've been craving leek buns since my favorite spot, where I used to get them every week, closed down during COVID. I've tried a few other places, but none of them quite hit the mark. However, today, when I explained my situation to the owner of a restaurant, they told me about a supermarket that sells hot food items, including my beloved leek buns! These buns are just as delicious as the ones from the small mom-and-pop restaurant I used to frequent for years. I'm so happy to have found them again, and I'll definitely be coming back to this supermarket for my leek buns from now on! Yum yum yum! The rest the supermarket is actually quite clean so I can add this to my list of places to go to. I currently usually go to Viet Hoa but welcome is so welcoming!

I've been really impressed with Welcome food market in the past year! Not only have they upgraded the interior but the quality produce and meats is also better! Produce: 5 What is driving this review is that this is now my go to market for produce. The quality has gotten a lot better and it's still a reasonable price! Watch out though, during peak shopping times you'll have to fight the Asian aunties for the best picks. Snack: 5 Welcome has really stepped up their snack game in the last year! They have different flavors of Kit Kats, lay's chips, and Taiwanese snacks that I don't see anywhere else! Food court/Bakery: 4 It's not a real food court but there is an cafeteria like area where you can select items for a to go box. It's a nice and affordable quick meal. While their dim sum isn't the best I do like the turnip cake! Seafood: 5 Their seafood area is separate from their red meat area. Once you enter the market is to the far right past one of the snack aisles at the front of the store. They have a wide variety of fresh fish and they still have fresh frog!

Your typical all encompassing Chinese supermarket. This is the OG supermarket from years ago but now it's a lot more modern and revamped. There's a big seafood / fresh catch section that's definitely a part of the Chinese supermarket experience (crabs, fish, shrimp). There's also some fresh baked items and also a cooked lunch station that's pretty affordable ($7-8). There's a big selection of veggies and all kinds of Asian merch. It's crowded and it's elbow to elbow action in there.

Fried chicken smell & taste like rotten meats
    EC D.

Bought a lunch box from the foods stall on the right inside the welcome market that is serving bad fried chicken. Smell like rotten. Most people can't tell, but i work in restaurant serving fried chicken & wings. I know what bad chicken meats when i taste one. Bad for business who try to save $ by serving rotten or expired meats.

    You're welcome

There was nobody at the door to welcome me. I felt very lied to. False advertising. Not my favourite grocery store along Bellaire, but there are five or six of them, so talk about competition. One after another between each major intersection from the 59 all the way out to Belt 8, it seems like. And then more beyond Belt 8. I appreciate the presence of all of them and won't give any of them less than four stars even though the modern fancy ones clearly have a lot more stuff and are a lot cleaner than the others. And this is one of the smaller older ones. Now speaking of smaller and older, how about a sympathy make out session with me?

The seafood manager told us it would be over $60 and we said that was fine. He picked one for us and handed it to a worker to clean/prep. While we were picking blue crabs nearby, we saw the worker struggling. My mom politely tried to explain how to clean it properly (she wasn't being rude -- she was trying to help because the worker looked lost). The worker responded with a nasty attitude, brushed her off, and kept ignoring her while chatting with a coworker. Then the worker handed us the bag and said, "Next time I'm not even going to clean it for you -- get out of here!" I've never had an employee speak to my family like that in a grocery store. We were so upset we didn't even take the bag and walked away to finish shopping. At checkout, the seafood manager came over with the same worker and asked why we left it. We explained what happened. Instead of apologizing or trying to resolve it, the manager got rude and accused us of leaving it because we can't afford it. That's not only unprofessional -- it's insulting, especially because we agreed to the price from the start and were prepared to pay. And to make things worse, while the worker was chatting with his coworker during the prep, I overheard him saying words like "chinos" and "pinches." I'm not fluent, but I know enough Spanish to recognize when someone is talking about customers in a disrespectful way. It's disturbing to hear that in a store where a lot of customers are Asian. This wasn't a "bad day" situation. It was outright hostility from an employee and a manager who escalated things instead of doing his job. We only took the turtle after demanding an apology, but the experience was already ruined. I won't be returning. If management cares, they need to retrain or replace staff in seafood -- because nobody should be spoken to like that while spending money in your store.

This market is one for the largest Vietnamese markets I've ever been to, offering a wide variety of fresh fruits, frozen foods, dry goods, imported sauces, sweets and more. I particularly love their extensive rice paper selections. My favorite is the "no water" rice paper, which doesn't require dipping in water to roll up like traditional ones. Unfortunately, this type of rice paper is available at every asian market so I'm happy Tan Binh has them. They also have a nice section dedicated to ready-to-eat and hot foods. You can grab and go with options like fried fish, tofu, and cooked meats. Customer service is usually pretty friendly. Just like anywhere else, you should check the expiration date of every product before buying. My cousin forgot to do so and bought two boxes of solar dried bananas that were expired. And during the warmer seasons, they set up a nice plant and herb section for sale right outside the entrance.

My nose literally led me to the back of the food mart where the bakery is. I saw trays and trays of different kinds of baklavas in the display cases. I got greedy (as usual when it comes to sweet food) and asked for eight different kinds of baklavas. The baklavas were sold by per pounds. Luckily I brought my Turkish friend along which helped in the communication part, and I was able to get a few pieces of each kind. The baklavas weren't too sweet, and they were so awesomely good. If I have to choose one favorite (trust me, it is tough to have one favorite only), it would have to be the cold baklavas with hazelnut or pistachios. Eat them straight out from the fridge is just aaahhhh... Diyarbakir Burma with pistachio had a good texture contrast that was so good. I also got the rice pudding (forgot to take a pic because I gobbled it down before I remember to take a pic) which came in a small rectangle aluminum tray. The rice pudding was baked well, and it wasn't overly sweet. I enjoyed it thoroughly. Other than sweets, the bakery sells breads too. That would be the food item l will purchase on my next visit.
