I wish I can give this business a negative star. Their business hours said it opens at 10am on Sunday and we arrived at 11:00am and the doors are still closed and it dark inside so it obvious no one is inside to open it anytime soon. We did wait for 30 minutes and make numerous call to the number listed in the store and only get an answering machine. This really such being an out of towner and want to get some jerky for friends back home. You're better off taking business elsewhere. Update: The moment we decided to leave the store open so we walk in anyway. When asked why is the store not open at 10am as posted, all we got when "yeah we just came late..." . We ordered some Xi Muoi online from here to be shipped to our house. When it arrived, the packaging was damaged with a label from USPS stating that it was received in damaged condition and it looked like someone had opened it already. When we checked the package, we only received 1lb of our 2lb order. We called the business asking for a refund of the portion of the order that we did not receive and the owner was super rude and essentially told us it was not his problem. When we pointed out that their refund policy on their website says that we need to notify them within 3 days of receiving a damaged package to receive a refund - he said he doesn't know anything about that policy (even though it is listed in their website). Let's see, there is curry beef jerk, traditional jerky, spicy jerky, shredded cuttlefish, crispy dried "crabs", dried squid, etc. and what's nice is you are free to try a piece before ya buy. When a decision is made, it is sold by the pound. Typically, premium jerk costs around $20-23/lb! On the center aisle and the other wall there are sweet treats like dried fruit, candies, jellies, gummies, you name it! Oh, and they also sell great cans of pate'! I'm ranking this below average due to cleanliness and service quality. The beef jerky is mid grade quality with several different level of spiciness and saltiness. The flooring and back area could definitely use a deep cleaning as the wear and tear of time are showing. The service is horrible and the largest reason for the poor rating. Yikes, I easily drop a huge chunk of $$ here every time I visit because they offer such variety that I can't resist getting treats for my family also, and I have a very large family! My favorites so far are the tamarind candies, the salted plums, and the beef jerky. They have a variety of each kind but the tamarind I chose are soft with a little bit of sweet and a good hint of spicy. The salted plums are super soft (not overly dry like most preserved fruits), white, and nicely balanced for both saltiness and sweetness. The beef jerky, here I get a little bit funny. The fruit stuff is for my mom(s) but the beef jerky is all for me. They have about every kind imaginable and for all levels of spiciness, I especially enjoy their beef liver jerky. Yum. They have a wide range of preserved, salted, spiced, pickled, or sweetened fruits. Many of the fruits I have pending on my "must try" list. Mangoes! Persimmon! Guava! I-don't-even-recognize-that-fruit-name! And the owner is a very nice lady who encourages I try out any item I want, a good sales lady knows when she's found an easy mark :) Some of the items seem pricey for the per lb price, but do you know how long a lb of preserved, dried, salted, or jerked product will last? I will usually buy a lb of several different items just to make the price calculation easier (on myself), then go home and divey up the goodies between different branches of the family. read more

Top notch customer service compared to the OTHER "Kho bo" place in Houston! Not sure if it was the owner lady that served us today but she let us try everything and anything, even the ones we didn't even ask to try. Our kids loved her! She treated them like children in her own family, let them try anything they wanted. Needless to say, we came out with over $100 worth of treats for our friends and family back home (and lil free extra for our lil ones)! Quality is about the same as the other place, but service and flexibility to buy in any quantity is exceptional! This is the place to go for authentic Vietnamese beef jerky and every snack food imaginable. It is super clean and everything is in neat rows of large candy jars and bins. It looks like a candy store but here you will find some exotic and delicious pickled and candied fruit, all kinds of fresh seasoned beef and deer jerky from lemongrass to spicy chile pepper jerky. I popped in after eating next door at Crawfish and Noodles. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for delicious jerky for snacks or for a nice Vietnamese papaya salad. It is not good anymore!! I just bought 1lb of lemon grass beef jerky, some of them tasted ok but most of them tasted like it is old (oil taste when it gets old). I don't like the service either; the way they talk are not friendly. They don't sell unless at least 1/2 lb and up and you can't mix and match even though they are the same price. No return even it's bad and they don't put expiration day on them either. I guess that's how they make money. I am not coming back anymore. read more

Best place for Beef Jerky and dried Asian fruits. I like it because there is no minimum amount that you have to buy. You can mix and match as long as the price of the products are the same. My kids love the colorful candies. The French products were nice too. I got some for the in laws in a basket since I didn't know what to get them. Service was great, not pushy like other places.
