One of most NEGATIVE & IGNORANCE experiences i had it recently in this place …read more sent to manager two complaints but received no answer , seems simply they don't care. Last time i checked in went to room arround 11 pm after long working day , i went toilet to be surprised they forgot to put SOAP, I called the front desk asking for soap to be surprised by her reply : i don't know , it's NOT OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO GO WALMART TO BUY YOU SOAP . can you imagine this the reply from a person who supposed representing the place with customers . After i expressed i need it urgently as i'm stucked in toilet . She told my i can give you one soap - although usually there's 2 soaps in the room - but you have to come to front disk to take it . I expressed that i'm stucked in room & need some one to bring it . To be surprised again from her replying : I'M NOT GOING TO LEAVE MY PLACE TO BRING YOU SOAP IF YOU WANT IT COME TO PICK IT UP . At the end i couldn't go to her & felt really extreme APATHY & IGNORANCE toward clients . tried to call & email manager several times but seems they don't care

I spoke with several folks staying there who were so grateful to be able to provide support for their ailing family members. Some had traveled a long way to be with their family and simply would not have had the budget to stay in Ottawa without this option. I looked into this and found that this is a non-profit hotel provided by Rotary International back in the 80's and still going strong. Perhaps this explains why it is not the most modern experience available, although it suffices to meet the needs of visitors who don't want to go broke trying to care for their loved ones. It has internet and cable tv and a common kitchen and dining area, but a microwave in the room would have been nice as well. Overall, I think this must be the best deal in town for visitors in their time of need.

The parking spots a bit tight, but over all good. The room was a bit larger than I assumed. The room had a microwave which was used and a small coffee machine. The two queen beds for the three of us - the mattress a bit old we think. We could feel the springs. The sheets and bed covers good quality and clean. The bathroom quite big as well. The bathroom, the wallpapers in room and bathroom and carpet in the room are dated as well. The hotel is under construction though so maybe the next if we do come they will be better. We did not hear any construction noise. The breakfast we missed it by a few minutes but could get some fresh looking fruit, coffee (very weak).

It is conveniently located just of Hwy 417, just minutes from downtown and across the street from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Downside is that there are no restaurants or stores in the area, so you have to drive a couple of miles to eat or shop. Our 2 queen bed room had plenty of amenities with shower/tub, 37" LCD TV, coffeemaker, microwave, clothes iron (& board) and wall mounted hairdryer. The mini refrigerator even had a working freezer, which was convenient to refreeze our blue-ice packs for our return trip and didn't have to use the ice machine down the hall. There are plenty of 120V plus a few USB outlets to charge all your laptops, phones, tablets, Fitbits, digital cameras and DVD players. We never go on vacation now without a full electronics suite. WiFi is complimentary, but can be somewhat of a pain by making you log back on constantly if your device times out. It's barely fast enough to stream a movie, but is adequate for your Yelping needs. Check-in was a breeze and you can park your car in the underground garage, which is included in your room rate. Enter through the automated roll top doors past the hotel entrance. There were plenty of spaces during our stay, but I can see it filling up during peak season. The elevator goes straight down to the garage level, so you don't have to go outside in the cold. The hotel also has a pool on the 4th floor, which we didn't use (it's 27°F/-3°C in November!), but we did use the small fitness center. Complimentary breakfast is a must when I look for hotels. It's served every day from 6am-10am in the dining area past the front desk. Hot food includes an egg dish (scrambled or cheese omelette), a meat dish (sausage or Canadian bacon) and sometimes a potato. You can also make your own fresh Belgian waffle on the 2 flip-top waffle irons, along with toasted bagels, muffins, cut fruit and juice. For all the caffeine addicted, coffee is served all day. The room rate was pretty good at CA$119 (US$89) per night, but the final bill for the special deal was for 1/2 price on the 3rd night (2 nights x $143 + 1 night x $71.50). It's not the hotel's fault, but just be aware of all the applicable taxes. The Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) is 13%, plus the Municipal Accommodations Tax (MAT) is 4% and then on top of those, they charge another 4% MAT on the 13% HST! Yikes, what a racket!

We had a parliament view on the second floor, and it was extremely spacious. The gentleman who showed up with our luggage offered great suggestions for nearby places and things to do. The hotel is equipped with a restaurant, bar and a cafe. The cafe offers some cute bits and bobs to purchase as souvenirs. The front desk suggested taking a hotel tour that is offered through a third party (if I remember correctly), and it was well worth it! I learned about the history of the hotel and the events that happened there. This hotel is just beautiful and needs to be experienced no matter what. I fully recommend a stay here, regardless of how long your stay is, I mean, come on, it's a castle!

We checked into our room on the 3rd floor with a Parliament view that was well worth it. The lobby areas, hallways, and rooms are so nice with a historic castle feel. Only complaint is the lack of outlets compared to other hotels including the Fairmonts in Montreal and Quebec City we stayed at next, but our extension cord helped. The location is perfect and a short walk to Parliament Hill, Byward Market, and the National Gallery of Art. The temporary Senate is also across the street at the Old Train Station. Restaurants were closed but we enjoyed the coffee shop upon checkout. Looking forward to hopefully staying here again.

The Good: High tech Rooms, there were so many switches it kind of got confusing going around figuring out which is for what light. Plenty of mood lighting and perfect lighting for when getting ready. The location was great, close enough to most downtown activities yet a little tucked away for a more peaceful environment. I do want to make a note this hotel is located right next to the shelter. To be honest that wasn't an issue for us. They kept themselves, there's always someone in the lobby so no unauthorized individuals can enter as elevator requires key. Staff was friendly from the moment we checked in, they held doors & greeted us each time. The room itself is modern, not much privacy though when it comes to shower, which is slightly tinted so when showering, anyone sitting in the room has full visuals. The bathroom floor is heated which was a nice touch. Found the bedding and pillows comfortable. The room is equipped with coffee pods & machine, creamer & milk in the fridge. Ample amount of towels and toiletries. The Ok: Though the room was cleaned, unfortunately our bathroom was not. We checked in very late so we were beyond exhausted only to come and find urine on the Toilet seat. The door was for the toilet didn't always close properly so not much privacy when it comes to that as well. Tips Overnight parking available on Daly street. (Free)

Pros: Since it's away from downtown, parking at the hotel is only $13 a night. Soap, shampoo, lotion and cups were always replenished. Great room service. Towels were clean and soft. Beautiful view from room since we selected room with lanai, parliament view. They have several rooms with a lanai so we could sit outside to enjoy the view of the parliament over the river and dry some clothes. Air con and outside was quiet and clean rooms. Hotel is walking distance of the museum of Canadian history. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Cons: Room smelled like smoke or musty first walking in. They always gave 1 towel short. Lots of bugs outside, and when I opened the bathroom window, the screen didn't keep them out, so we had gnats on the ceiling while bathing that one night. No breakfast, no safe in room or lockbox, and the room key could not open the exercise room. Overall, I'd book here again because of the awesome view, clean rooms, room service and reasonable rates.
