Before they approve the medication for me with a coupon from the manufacturer of the company I would only have to pay $60 a month but with well care it's 10 times the amount. It would be $300 a month at the minimum even after I've paid off my deductible. I called up to find out how this is possible and the customer service agent blamed me and said that it's my fault for signing up for this plan. I don't understand why I pay for medical insurance if with medical insurance I have to pay 10 times the amount out-of-pocket. I caught a virus on an Alaskan cruise and was prescribed by the ships pharmacy a prescription. Their policy is for the patient to pay and then file a claim with their insurance. I did that with WellCare and they denied my claim saying it was not in the United States. I showed them proof on a refiling that the insight passage of Alaska is in the United States, but they still turned on my claim.. I will for sure. Only sent out a second notice after the termination was already effective and said there was nothing that they could do. worst health care insurance I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with [ Aetna auto insurance scores lower ] I only had them for 1 or 2 weeks and got calls from walgreens for PRE-authorization for medication from the emergency room at a local hospital. then a call from NEOS then from Shields MRI center. So I called medicare got my original coverage back and got aarp for prescriptions. then called welcare and told them just to cancel my coverage as I am done with them. funny part is I had them for 5 years as prescription only coverage, then they called to sell me on wellcare medicare part D and blew it so bad in 5 days time they are gone. so I am DONE with wellcare clowns, they suck and just play childish games. read more

Worst medicare advantage health insurance company that I've ever dealt with! I was so glad that I could change away from them as long as i did it by March 31st. Hard to understand foreigners handling their calls. Wellcare prioritizes their "Stupid Policies and Protocols" over patients! They kept harassing me in January to contact them if I needed any information. I finally contacted them, only to be held "Hostage" to what they wanted to cover. After a half an hour, I hung up. The representative kept telling me she would get to my request, but never did. I called them again early in March. All I needed was a printed list of eye doctors and one for dentists mailed to me. Their line is 1st answered by an automated system that makes you verify who you are. Then each and every person you get transferred to starts all over verifying your identity! This is totally ridiculous!!! It's NOT like I was asking for any personal or medical information! I hung up on the 2nd representative, after I had already identified myself, twice! The 1st representative could only send out one list and had to transfer me to a different representative for the other list! More stupidity! Then I called them a 3rd time and after identifying myself through the automated system and getting transferred to the 1st representative, who I knew could not fulfill my request. But, I asked her over and over anyway if she could fulfill my request. Finally, she said she could not. So, I asked for a supervisor. She gave me a hard time saying I had to identity myself before she could transfer me. But, I also forgot to say, the automated system says, I've found your account from the phone number you are calling from! Which tells me, they don't need to aggravate anyone over and over! I yelled at her to transfer me a supervisor, which she finally did. Then, this IDIOT supervisor, aggravates me more! I told her I wasn't going through that crap anymore and to send out the list I was requesting! I told her I had no intention of identifying myself over and over! She said she would take care of it, but didn't. After being on hold a couple of times, she transferred me to a different IDIOT that was requesting information from me. I hung up on her without the list. This IDIOT had the nerve to call me back saying we got disconnected. I told her no we didn't, that I hung up. As soon as she started asking me for information, I hung up on her again! Then they kept calling back. They called 5 or 6 times. I did not answer. I was too busy switching to a different health insurance company! I was done! If I can't make a very simple request for a provider list, I'd hate to see what would happen if I had a health insurance issue! read more

Because of my job I have relocated several times and have had different Medicare providers. WellCare is by far the worst. There were literally no doctors in the network (in New York State) when I needed services. I had to travel almost one hour to find a podiatrist who was in network and it was the shadiest doctor's office i've ever been to. There is absolutely NO customer service and you can't find a living person who knows what they're doing and can send you to the right person. Fortunately I am a healthy person and do not need much medical care but I can't imagine what they're like for someone who has a lot of health needs. Really horrible. They seem to never update the doctors in their network (which keeps changing- and the pickings are slim anyway) on their website. The website is very difficult to navigate. I've spent hours trying to make appointments - even making them sometimes, only to find out the doctor was no longer in network with them. Additionally, when you call the customer service line with questions, you get misinformation. I've had to call 2 - 3 times, asking the same question before getting the correct answer. I'm one month into Medicare coverage. I went with another Plan D Medicare plan in December (my birth month) then became aware that WellCare might be a better option. I enrolled but then decided it would be better to enroll in my retiring companies group Advantage Plan C. I have attempted to cancel the WellCare before it took affect, so I could meet the January 1st deadline for enrolling in the company plan. Overseas WellCare customer service (no follow-up or any opportunity for any stateside assistance) would not cancel my enrollment, and have left me into becoming an active member, so I missed the company group plan window as WellCare continued to enroll me in January, then told me I should have cancelled before January. Poorest customer service imaginable. Do not even begin to attempt to use this company. They do not "care". read more

Buyer beware: I have been on Wellcare Medicare part D since 03/01/23. There is incorrect information associated with my account. Every time I have to fill a prescription it gets rejected. I call Wellcare, talk to 4 different people, call operators, pharmacy, Medicare, supervisors etc, they confirm my information, they promise to correct, they promise to "escalate", call my pharmacy to release the prescription, only to go through they same procedure the following month. Yesterday I picked up two prescriptions, one went through, one didn't! I am having lung cancer removed next week and I am afraid I will not be able to get my prescriptions! read more

I had to wait 2 weeks just to get wellcare to ok a simple x-ray on my hip. I thought if I changed wellcare plans that it might be better but it's not it got worse. They enjoy making partial payments to doctors that is if your lucky enough to find a doctor that will take them. I just had what the hospital doctor told me was a emergency gallbladder surgery. Wellcare refuses to pay they claim it should have been treated in other ways first.it was swollen and stuck to my liver and was about to bust but I guess wellcare and congress know more about who needs care than trained doctors. If I could give their Wellness Value Script (PDP) plan a -5, it would still be too high. Incompetence is also an understatement. After filling the same script with a different generic manufacturer, it made me ill. I returned to the prior generic- no problem (I ha. After 1 hour x 3 people, the pharmacist stated he could specify the generic brand that worked. I then was charged $ 300.00+ for the script and assured I would get the correct manufacturer generic. Yes, you guessed it and they sent the wrong one again. On the Phone for 25 minutes and still waiting. They are the worst and their pharmacists are scary to talk to. I have plants in the garden that are more communicative and helpful. Buy other insurance. They have since apologized and claimed to be mailing the correct generic... My phone times this call so far at 1 hour 47 minutes and 18 seconds. This is the 13th time I have called over the same issue, trying to get the proper PCP number on my WellCare Insurance Card. I have never made just one call over any issue. The least number of times I called before the proper correction was made over a single issue was 3. Each time I call, I go through an automated identification process, which is repeated as soon as the customer (non)-service agitator gets on the line and naturally they cannot help you with anything you call for, so they put you through to another inept dolt who happily thanks you for choosing excellent healthcare and then starts an identification process. So 14 phone calls and 21 hours of hold time later, I have once again been assured that I will receive my new insurance identification card within the next 14 business days. So within 14 business days, I can go make an appointment for 5 months down the road and maybe they will still be accepting WellCare by the time I get in, since so many providers have been severing ties with WellCare. Just so the population is clear, if you have an emergency, please hang up and call 9-1-1. If you are so lacking as to call Wellcare Insurance for an ambulance, stay on the line. I enrolled in a WellCare Advantage Plan effective 01-01-2022 because the plan included my dentist, primary internist and dermatologist in network. When I contacted my dentist and internist in January 2022 to give notice of my new WellCare Plan, both informed me that they did not accept WellCare (in or out of network) and both had tried for years to get WellCare to remove them from advertised network of providers. I immediately filed a grievance with Medicare against WellCare for FALSE MARKETING and switched back to Original Medicare. SHAME ON YOU, WELLCARE! read more

There is some confusion with this plan in knowing which provider they will pay, even after specifically calling them to find out. They often times deny the claim saying that the provider was out of network, even after being told they were providers. I like United Health Care much better, I never had this problem with them. This one of the worse experiences in my life in dealing with the so called "customer service department" located in some third world country where the personnel speaks very poor English and return calls and/or e-mails are never completed. Their coverage is cheap however and I will have to endure was this headache. I personally paid (via credit card) my April Part D premium and later in the month the premium was deducted from my Social Security Check. I have attempted to have the United States office to contact without success as I was informed by the foreign office "I HAD TO CONTACT THE SOCIAL SECURITY OFFICE AND REQUEST REIMBURSEMENT". Well, the premium is very low for a Medicare Part D plan (prescriptions), but good God in heaven this is the poorest customer service I've ever experienced. I spent a couple hours of painfully dim exchanges with various agents trying to sign up for a plan. Each of them was clearly laboring over trying to do everything in their call script, and seemed to have someone else talking in their ear; long silences on their end, and many times I heard a random "Okay" as though responding to someone else. They would ask the same questions over and over. Truly the dimmest collection of people I've ever spoken to. Badly trained, not at all knowledgeable, afraid to do or say anything outside the confines of their script. The most painful human interaction I've had in quite a while. read more

I honestly don't know where to begin. Most of Wellcare's claims turn out to be gross exaggerations, or completely false. Only one of my providers will now take them. ( And I was informed yesterday that they will soon drop Wellcare ).... Wellcare began as a concerned, full-service American company, but have been bought out by a Chinese company ( headquarters in Taiwan ) perhaps explaining some of my issues- from failing to cover costs, changing items and services at will, etc. Customer service is simply the worst. Just TRY to get an answer on anything- or speak to anyone who is not a third-world answering board.....The OTC card doesn't not work, even when accepted, the so-called "$4,000"extra Money card is a scam! ( It only provides 250. - IF you could even find someone to take it! NO one in my county will even take the 250. I was drawn to the Wellcare PPO Giveback Medicare Advantage plan due to cost for myself and my wife. The overwhelming reason for 1 star is for the substandard customer service. The agents in the Philippines mean well but their ability to find information and solve issues is sorely lacking. The one bit of hope on the horizon is that you can ask to speak to an American agent. I could go into the gorey details but I was on the phone for 2 1/2 hours today to find out what my deductible was. No one could help me with that. I have been waiting almost 3 months to get a dental cleaning authorization for a service that's clearly covered in my plan. I have called no less than 6 times trying to find out what was causing the delay. Every time I call someone either disconnects the call or I'm transferred to someone who can't answer my questions. Last time I called, I was told that I could pay out of pocket and wait for reimbursement. I called again today 1/28/19 and was told that I had to deal with a third party vendor. I just spent 6 hours on the phone trying to get answers and a resolution to a PROBLEM CREATED BY WELL CARE I originally had another Medicare company......AARP United Health Care as my Medicare provider only to take a shot at a phone number I had seen on TV. Well I was really surprised that this plan was more suited to me due to NO PLAN A premium and Plan B was paid for by the refund paid to me each month according to the add on TV and the SALES REP who sold me this bill of goods. I went into my Well Care portal to find out if I could use an EYE doctor in NY while I was here helping my 88 years young dad in recovery from hip surgery and there was a bit of convoluted conflicts as to my coverage so I called on October 27. I was told that there was no supervisor to help me at that moment...and YES...ONCE AGAIN I am sent to the Philippines.......NOT DEALING WITH ANYONE FROM THERE or anywhere else other than the U.S. .....and that one would call me. Oct 28, 29, 30, 31 passes along with Nov 1 and STILL NO CALL. I called this morning starting at 9 o'clock only to play ring around the rosy with Well Care, Medicare.gov and Social Security. I paid $471 on line on the Medicare.gov website to pay up all of the back premiums until Jan 2022 and then I called Well Care AGAIN. It is now after 12 and I HAVE NO INSURANCE PLAN B and no one calling me until some SUPERVISOR GETS A CLUE TO CALL ME NOW. This was all very convenient to NOT call me when they said they would so that my Plan B lapsed instead of calling right after I called them so I could prevent anything from preventing me from being able to use my insurance Plan B for an eye doctor that I NEED NOW. BAIT and SWITCH tactics backed by the ability to NOT call anyone back knowing that their time clock is ticking. NOT to mention that they can send me letters all day long to my address in SC BUT I AM IN NY helping my dad with his health issues so why in the hell wasn't anyone from Well Care calling me or emailing me????????????? I AM SO SICK and tired of the constant games that INSURANCE companies play. My Plan B was to be paid with the refund that I get monthly from my SS even though I am not collecting because IT IS THERE....along with the fact that my health is really good....for which I NEVER take for granted...but this shill game is really pushed me to the edge. The reps who talk to people on the phone get a "commission" for selling these plans to those of us who now have to have this type of insurance only to have to fight for the RIGHT INFORMATION. I have a PILE......a BAG full of ALL of these vipers trying to get me to sign on with them as well as having PHONE HARASSMENT calls all day long to no end from them all trying to get me to sign with them and that alone PISSES ME OFF AS WELL. This plan comes off as an excellent plan with low rates. Always remember, you get what you pay for and with Wellcare that is nothing. They apply an unattainable deductible and increase it each year. While you expect a nominal increase they go beyond. Throughout the year they deny almost every medication you receive. I have a lung and heart condition and they even went so far as to deny an emergency use inhaler which is a basic need for most. Most recently they denied a prescription by my cardiologist as not being a medication they deem appropriate for a heart condition. They deemed. Not my cardiologist but "they deemed" it not to be appropriate. This is not the first time either. I've been going through these battles with them since I became a client. Their customer service is horrendous. Unfortunately there aren't that many plans out there to choose from so switching isn't as easy as some would think. Her doctor wrote a letter explaining why she needed the amount of medication, and Wellcare, for no reason, denied the doctor's request. I was trying to help him with a serious issue and all the people I talked to would put me on hold before I could explain why I was calling. I am an elderly and disabled woman receiving disability and Medicare/Medicaid from Colorado! I am on the "Wellcare" pharmacy plan and have been on the classic plan for many years. Yet this year Wellcare put me on the "value-script plan", which charged me $5.50 each month. This may have well been $500 for me and could have been a partial electric bill payment. I paid $30, which they dispute as I paid $27.50. I did get a $5.50 check from them, yet they refuse to send me the rest. This to me shows their admission of wrongdoing, but I paid more than they refunded to me. Not to say anything about the double dipping they are doing with the government ALSO paying my account for that same time. I am not thinking that I am the only one they are doing this to others, and hope for an investigation of how they are taking funds twice (from the client, as well as the government). You may find this is in the big amounts of dollars if it gets investigated, but all I want is MY TOTAL REFUND of their money making scheme on me! I have reference #'s and have talked with multiple people, including the executive office and keep getting shoved aside. I would be ashamed of scamming an old disabled woman if I was them! read more

I have been attempting to get mail order prescriptions filled from Wellcare/Caremark. Whoever is servicing this function, they are totally ridiculous to try to deal with. Each time I call I get a different answer. Virtually no information is online about the prescription. Even when a Rx has been denied by the doc, it doesn't say what the script was for. You have to call and ask why and what was denied. They fax to the wrong number after first trying to fax to the doc's office number! They have failed to notify me repeatedly about the status of my prescription when I needed to take action because the doctor didn't respond or whatever. I have had to call over and over and I get a different story each time. I am VERY, VERY sorry I went with them for my Part D coverage for the year. I will be filling my scripts at CVS until I can change my Part D insurer. read more
