They had me laughing and relaxed in 5 minutes, everyone that I talked to while waiting in my bed was, helpful and sweet. Including 2 anesthesiologists. Sure you may not get the appointment you want because there is a strong demand for their services. So don't make an appointment because you have a little boo boo that you can fix yourself. Sometimes the doctor gets backed up and that pushes appointments past their scheduled time. The facility has the ability to check your eyes and order glasses, TBI, and physical therapy services assisted by physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, and other medical specialists. So you can say this is your one stop shop minus the major surgery equipment which you need to go to William Beaumont or for kids, the Children's Hospital that is close to Texas Tech.

It's also not a hospital, there is no ER here and it's closed on weekends and holidays. As the name suggests, it's a "clinic". You know, follow up appointments, got the flu, hearing, vision, blood work, pharmacy, etc. The type of ailments that you can make an appointment for and not have to be rushed in. And DO make an appointment, this clinic stays busy and will not entertain walk ins (for most things anyways.) It's a solid clinic, decent size and stays clean. They are primarily for Soldiers, as the name suggests, but I've never been in here and NOT seen a family member with kids. Not sure which families are sent here or why (as mine is assigned to Mendoza) but whatever. Point is, it's not PURE Soldier care facility only. Location is adjacent to the old Stayton Theatre and very near the softball fields on main post. I see a lot of different patches here, so I'm not sure what units are assigned to this clinic as opposed to Mendoza, however, if you're in 32nd AAMDC, 11th BDE ADA, or any of the BNs that all under it, this is your clinic to be seen at and where your medics and PA works at. Went through my medical past asked all of right questions inorder to get a practical treatment plan inplace that would benefit me health wise for the future . Offered me practical health advise that would'nt cost me any out of pocket cash on expensive medications that I could do on my own. Very short wait time from reception to seeing the Nurse Practitioner. I ran out of life saving medication on the weekend after my appointment , called the office on Monday for some samples until I received my new perscription. Fifteen minutes after my call , I had 6 bottles of samples which would last me about a month were waiting for me at the front desk. Yes it is true I havent had an appointment with the Chief Physician of the practice Dr. Douglas Alorgbey but he is the person that approved or hired all of the people that work with in the practice which means to me he must be a well respected Physician that is looked up to as a leader in the medical profession. The Soldier Family Medical Clinic, or SFMC, is the off site (as in it's a part of William Beaumont…read moreArmy Medical Center WBAMC - but not AT WBAMC), is the larger sizes clinic that supports most of the ARNG, USAR, some families and dependents, and tenet FBTX units located on what is now called "West Bliss". They have a small pharmacy but it is seldom used. Most of the "PA" are located here. PA being the Physician Assistant, which is always a commissioned officer that is assigned as the primary medical officer for a specific unit. So if you're a Soldier located on West Bliss, and you're referred to see a "doc" but not at WBAMC, this is where you'd go. They also have most of the units medics assigned here, that perform all of the admin and vital signs checks for the PA before you're seen by the PA. Normally, if there's any issues more serious than a PA or medic can address, they'll then refer you to a specialist at WBAMC or Mendoza. This place used to be the ONLY SFMC or TMC as they used to be called, on Ft Bliss. But around 2010 when "East Bliss" opened, most persons at FBTX were transferred to Mendoza. As the name suggests Family members also receive their medical care in this clinic. I have seen some children for immunology visits for sports/school requirements. Pharmacy, optometry and audiology clinics are currently not located here. Otherwise, you can receive what you need for your routine medical care. If you need any specialty care, you have to be referred to go to the main hospital or the other clinic. As I said in the beginning, you can expect to receive very good care by the medical teams. Make sure you make an appointment thru appointment line. Even then you may have to be patient for it's a very busy clinic supporting many Service Members and Families.
