We've purchased at Wendell's several times over the years including our current mattress purchased there that was going on 10 years old and was due for replacement soon. This review is not about the high quality of their products, but, it is about high pressure sales tactics. Our issue was in 2023 during a visit.... we visited there shopping for a new Mattress again and 2-3 times when a sales person asked if we had questions or needed help, we simply said --no--, we're just going to look at your mattresses today and chat among ourselves. That did -not- work. 3 times during our 30 minute visit, 2 of the same sales people came over again to do a major sales pitch to us even after we said, no, we do not want help, we'll ask if we have questions. We left there feeling we'd never come back and we have not since that visit in 2023. Wendell's......please, when a customer wants to be --left alone-- just to browse and convey's to your salesperson that they'll ask for help f they need to, take the hint and ask your sales team to back off please! read more

Awful! Steer clear of this place. I had to chase these guys for months to get a bed I ordered and paid for. Excuses, excuses - the factory screwed up the order, the salesman screwed up the order, the distributor lost it, we were on vacation, that's not my job. what? No one called!? Nope no one ever calls. You have to chase it down. In reality Zack forgot to put the order in, then put it in wrong, then lied about it. Nice. The bed was poor quality when it finally came, big gaps in the joints, laminated (even though we were told it was solid wood). The icing on the cake, they tried to collect a mystery balance after delivery! So crooked. Tried to buy local but not again when Wayfair.com is honest, dependable, better quality and cheaper. read more

I bought my new king-sized mattress and box spring from Wendell's a couple years ago during a holiday sale. I got a great price on a Sealy, but the good new stops there. During my visit the sales person who was "helping" me kept taking calls and texting on his cell phone while I tried out beds -- that's fine, I figured it was work-related and didn't pay it much attention. However, when we sat down for me to fill out paperwork and pay, his cell phone rang, and he answered it (very rude, I'm about to hand you a ton of money). His cell phone volume was turned up so loud that I could clearly hear the caller on the other end who said, "Hey, a*shole, you sold me a bed, and we have a problem -- it appears to already have been f*cked on." Clearly, a friend of his playing some sort of practical joke. The sales guy laughed and said to his friend, "I gotta go I'm working." Classy. I was then told that I would have the mattress and box spring delivered by Thursday, guaranteed. Well, Wednesday rolled around, and I called to check because I hadn't received the deliver confirmation call. Turns out that mattress wasn't in stock and wouldn't be delivered for another three weeks. I was ticked off and spoke to Wendell himself who apologized and offered to send me a gift certificate for dinner for two to a local restaurant. I accepted -- but no gift certificates ever arrived. Now, two years later, my mattress sucks -- there's a huge sink hole in the middle. And, besides, their catch phrase is, "We make deals." Sorry, I don't want to make a deal -- I want the best price, honest customer service and no hassle. Never again. read more

My family went shopping for some living room furniture at Wendell's back in July. The staff at Wendell's were all really friendly. Our salesperson, Connor, was excellent. He provided detailed information on the construction of the pieces we were interested in which really helped us to make an informed decision. He gave us plenty of time and space when we needed to discuss and figure out what we wanted. We purchased three Decor-Rest love seats that weren't supposed to be delivered until December but they arrived six weeks earlier! The two delivery guys were wonderful (I wish I remembered their names!) It was late in the day and up two flights of stairs and they didn't rush through the delivery at all. They removed the old furniture efficiently and unpacked and assembled the new pieces with care. The were really friendly. The Decor-Rest loveseats are well made and quite comfortable. The entire Wendell's experience was a pleasure and I have never said that about furniture shopping before. read more

Went in this week after going to the Superstore. Was looking for a couch. Went to Superstore and got there at 5:30, I was greeted with " we close at 6". Really?? So looked around and left. The next night we went to Wendell's. All I can say is excellent service, excellent quality, tons to choose from and most of all friendly and accommodating. Justin was the most helpful salesperson that I have encountered in a long time! Not pushy, gave us the time we needed to look and decide without hounding us. Super friendly and helpful!! I wanted to let you all know that Wendell's did indeed send my couch out to me and on time! The delivery team was also great to deal with. After they out it together they even left me the tools to take it apart. So no complaints on that side at all! What still remains as an issue is Wendall's can be a little bit on the pricy side. I was lucky enough and found the couch up on the loft. The loft is where they keep discounted items. Normally it means they just can not order it any longer. Otherwise my experience with Wendell's was great! Check out the loft for that one killer deal! Who knows you might even find it! read more

Today my aunt wanted to go to Wendells' to llok at rocker/recliners and a new bed. I went with her and I am so glad I did! RikkiAnn was our salesperson. She was fantastic. She was so friendly and personable. She took her time with us and showed us every single piece of furniture we asked about and and took the time to answer all of our questions. I appreciated the level of customer care that she gave us. I also loved the story about the beautiful female cardinal that kept popping into each window while we were there! I also talked with her about the lift chair that I had purchased for my Life partner. He didn't get to use it very long because he passed away this past August. I got really emotional talking about and she did too. I wished I could have given her a hug for her compassion but darn Covid! Alex is the one that helped me back in December 2019 to get the recliner and his service was also great! Thank you Wendell's for hiring great people!! read more

We love the furniture that we bought back in April. 2 love seats, king mattress and bed, queen mattress and box spring. What we didn't love was the lack of communication and the time it took us to get our bed delivered. We were promised one date and when it didn't arrive (no phone call) we had to call the bed store several times. When we didn't get a return call, my husband had to physically go to the store to find out status of order. We actually ended up cancelling our order; rat's when the manager called us to "make things better". We agreed to keep moving forward with purchase and Wendalls promised to send us a gift card, which they never did. Pretty sure we'll shop somewhere else next time. read more

We recently bought a king-sized bed frame from Wendell's. Our shopping experience there was positive and we found exactly what we were looking for at a great price. The item did need to be ordered but came in on time. We dealt with Conor McKenna who was helpful, knowledgeable and pleasant to deal with. We had planned to pick up the bed frame ourselves but Connor said he would deliver it AND set it up on his way home from work - which he did with energy and a great attitude. I bought a Brookline (?) black leather couch back in 2009 from the store near Costco. Fairly uneventful, seemed like a fair deal, life is good. A year or so after that, a "fold" formed under the cushion on the 'passenger side', making for a minor lump to sit on each time on the sofa. But we're practical people and didn't pay it much attention or care. But over time, a minor annoyance became a downright bummer. Enter Wendell. I stopped by the store to learn what I could do about the lump. Mind you, another year and a half passed making it 3 years since the purchase. Hey, we have a very young child so fellow parents know that this hardly rates as a priority. Anyway, Wendell eventually called me at home later. The warranty was out - not that it would have been honored because Brookline went bankrupt, Wendell said - but Wendell offered to send a furniture repair person and pay for half the cost. Sounded reasonable to me. Within two weeks, the guy (Al) showed up and fixed the lump. It was a fold in the foam that had a memory for it, Al said. Meaning, it must have gotten scrunched at one time in a fateful sitting and never wanted to go flat again. Problem solved. It cost $50 for my half which was very reasonable considering the amount of procrastination behind my call to Wendell's Furniture. Bottom line: I am about as wary of furniture dealers as I am of car dealers. Truthfully, Wendell could have said "tough luck buddy" and not batted an eye. However, by offering to pick up half the cost, he turned my otherwise indifferent furniture preference in his favor. We don't buy furniture often, but you can be sure I will check out Wendell's the next time we're on the market. His customer service is fantastic! read more

Have been most all over town for good quality furniture. Was primarily looking for a bed. Sadly this was the last place I went,should have been the first. Found exactly what I was looking for, great quality, and ON SALE! Salesman was quick to the point and not pushy. He was even handling multiple customers at the same time. Decided I needed a box spring so they sold me one on the phone while we arranged delivery. Gave me a window for the delivery and called twice prior to confirm (who does that anymore). The two young men who delivered were top notch, had a smile on there face, and super helpful. They did it all!!!! Very impressed and very satisfied. Would certainly go back and would certainly have delivery again if needed. You don't get customer service like that anymore. Sadly I didn't have cash I would have given them a HUGE tip. read more

I have a white curio cabinet. I needed white and the price was right. No pressure from Sales team. Everyone was kind. The delivery and set up was great. I have no complaints. The white curio wasn't on the floor but they found me a white one matching a dark one on the floor! I was thrilled! I also feel that if you ever have a problem, go to Wendell? Beware! Stay away from this store - they will lie and gyp you. I ordered a piece of furniture through them (because they were the closest dealer). The company offered a rebate that was to be passed on to me. Once I received the furniture, Wendell's refused to give me the full rebate. We bought two rooms worth of furniture from Wendells. Unfortunatly for us we brought one couch first and it did not fall apart till we purchased the second room of furniture. When we received our chair, that had a wooden bottom, we were told that we would have to bring it back ourselves...no way to do so. I would not do business there again. I went to Wendell's with my 3 year old in tow to buy him his first "big kid" bed. The sales lady was nice enough and helped me find a mattress that fit our needs. I was prepared to take the mattress home with me that day since I have a roof rack on my Forester. I asked the sales lady if the warehouse guys would help me load it onto my car and secure it. She said they probably would, but I could ask them when I got there (warehouse is down the street). I told her I wouldn't be able to do it myself, so if they could not, I did not want to purchase it. She again indicated they would "probably help me, but I'd have to verify when I got down there". I should have taken that as a hint, in hindsight. When I got to the warehouse, the 2 guys said they absolutely could not help me get it on my car and secure it for insurance reasons--it's the law. Can't even help me lift it up there. They clearly were not in the mood to do any actual physical work. I'm 5/2", there's no way I'm getting a full size mattress on top of my Forester and securing it on there by myself. Not to mention I have a 3 year old with me. Seriously? I was so angry I said forget it, I'm not buying it. I promptly went back to the store and got my money back. Just for the record Wendell, I went to 2 of your competitors after I left, both of whom said it would be no problem to load it onto my car and secure it. I went home with a mattress that day. We purchased a bedroom set (bedframe and dresser new), a mattress set, and two couches and had problems with the orders from the beginning. They told us delivery in 4-6 weeks on the bed. When week six rolled around and no information on delivery, we call Wendell's. The order didn't get placed until week 4 and the bed was no longer in production. I asked him to cancel the whole order. A day later I got another call saying the factory agreed to make one more and it would be in in another 6 weeks and they'd discount it (we ordered both dresser and bed frame new - a dresser that had a problem was available from their sale floor). Again, waiting and no call. Finally heard from Wendell himself that their transportation company went bankrupt. The good news was our furniture was not on the truck, the bad news it was going to be another 2 weeks. We finally got the bed and dresser only to find out the discount was because they gave us the slightly damaged one from their sale floor (without telling us). With our couch, we waited and waited....at 6 weeks I called, and they said it'd be one more week. A week later and no call. I called them at after 10 days to the response of "we were waiting for you to pick it up". Difficult to pick-up when you don't even know your furniture has arrived. At no point was free delivery or any other reimbursement offered to us other than the discount for giving us the problem dresser (when we were under the impression we were getting a new one). In the end, while the furniture has been fine, I would not recommend shopping at this store as what they say is not what you get in a standard turn-around-time. read more

One item came in but not the match, and I can take or borrow floor model (with no discount).. Doesn't seem to be a customer service site I can find. Won't deal with them again!!! read more

Ordered 2 chairs Jan 2 2015 picked them up Mar 20 2015. Salesperson said they would arrive 6-8 weeks. called wk 8 took 3 more weeks. Salesperson made lame excuse. Most everyone knows furniture stores hold shipping until they get a certain number or orders this saves big bucks on shipping.A phone call from the salesperson had been delayed 3 weeks would have been nice. Also delivery charges are just unreal! We were lucky there was a truck in the family. read more

We tried to make a deal with Wendell, the owner. Specifically on his card it says "WE MAKE DEALS". Um, no you don't. He was extremely rude when we offered a certain amount of money in CASH right in front of him for a couch. He asked my husband what kind of car he drove here today, and Wendell went on to say, "What if I offered you $1000 for your car", and my husband said, "well... it's not for sale. The difference is your trying to sell your couch, and I'm not selling my car. And it says right here you make deals". We had bought two things in the past from the VT Bed Store where his daughter works - and they were kind there. We told him we would be lifetime customers if he would work a deal with us.... Instead, he chose to grab my husband's hand say thank you for coming in and STORM off to his office and slam the door. HMMM. Ok, well not only did you lose us for customers for all the things we will need for our new home, but you will lose business from all our other friends who need furntiture and hopefully anyone who reads this review. The customer service was ridiculous. Sickening. That's the story in a very small nutshell. Sure, he leaves candy around the showroom to entice you, and make it feel freindly but it's not. Best part, was that the lady who was working there had told us the day before what we were going to offer was just above their cost. Mistake. Just gave us more ammo to stick with our offer. OK, well at the end of the day you are still making money, still keeping us happy, and we promised to be back again. Dumb move on his part. I would not recommended Wendell's soley based on his customer service. I will never, ever go back there again or the VT Bed Store. I won't support that type of service. read more

After visiting and purchasing a piece from Wendell's today I felt compelled to write a review. This review is not about the selections nor of the quality Wendell's has to offer. This review is in reference to the customer service and lack of accommodation we received. It took about 20 minutes before ANYONE in the store approached us to tell us about deals and the loft upstairs as this was our first time there. Once we had decided on a piece to purchase there was no one around to help. I had to resort to approaching a sales assistant at her desk to ask for her assistance. During the purchasing of our furniture we were told that we were unable to use a gift certificate that we had been given because the item we wanted was located in the "loft'. Now I understand not being able to use coupons on already marked down prices however, gift certificates are money that has already been given to the store and I feel that I should be able to spend that gift certificate on any item I choose regardless of price or where it is located. The sales woman was unable to offer a reason as to why this was, other than that the prices were already marked down. She was unapologetic and unhelpful in rectifying the situation. I just wanted others to know about this policy in hopes that they are not blindsided like we were. read more

My husband and I went to Wendells in Colchester to buy a new bed. We ordered a new king size mattress set, and when we went to schedule a time for delivery, we were asked by the (old) sales women and delivery manger when we would like it delivery. We said today or tomorrow. Simultaneously they BOTH LAUGHED in our face and said that was not possible. AWESOME thanks for making us feel stupid, when really, you should feel stupid if you are incapable of setting up a time that soon! You shouldn't make the CUSTOMER feel like crap. You know what we got for an answer from the deliver guy, "well if the deliver drivers want to keep their families happy we cant do that," Seriously? We were then told by the old sales women that when they delivered the bed, they would take our old mattress. Well....that was a lie, because when they delivered our bed, the delivery people said they do not pick up old mattresses. TIME TO RETIRE.....Not a good experience and would NEVER recommend this place again. Its not like we bought a $50 item. Our bed was over $1900. Thanks for nothing WENDELL.
