I was going to give a more scathing critique, but I'm a em-ca-barrussed to be too mean. It's in Concord, but it may as well be in discord, really. So I think this YMCA is really good in some ways, but less good in others. The front desk is really friendly and the cardio has Netflix, and had my sign in details, so that was good. On the other hand, they have big Jesus posters on the wall, and putting a banner in the cardio is lame. And there are a few issues such as are the kids coming around and cleaning the machines in the middle of the workout, and they were spraying their bottles and sweeping up dust and literally I could smell dust, made me sneeze, almost cough, during cardio, and literally I got sprayed (ew) with a little bit of spray (ew) but that's not the kids fault because they are being instructed to do so by the boss here, who was following them around, ordering them to clean more. They should be doing that when no one is working out because that's why we pay more than enough. And that stuff is toxic AF and it shouldn't be sprayed near me... let alone making me wet from spray... during my cardio. On the good side: The shower pressure is a huge thing and I appreciate that, even though a lot of the lockers are disappointingly reserved for members. It could easily have received a 3 star for the religion in my face and spray on my body and dust up my nose, but I'll generously give 4 because it was an otherwise good facility. It is gross!! The women at the front desk could be bothered! The pool closes at 1 and opens up again at 3, the part of the day that you would want to swim. If you have arthritis, the one pool that should be warm is not a bummer. Due to renovations, men and women are changing in the same locker. Ridiculous! GROSS! Very Disappointing for sure. read more

West Cabarrus YMCA - Gyms Near Me - Concord, North Carolina

So, Covid-19 hasn't been easy for any business, let alone the fitness world. However, the West Cabarrus YMCA has done pretty well in my respect. I have been able to use the pool almost all summer and love the lane reservation system. So much so I wish they would keep it all the time. The staff is always friendly when I come in and let me know what is going on. I don't have much experience with this location pre-Covid-19 but I assume they did great. If you are going to work in membership services at least be nice to people. I had a phone call with someone in membership services today who was rude and hung up on me. I could hear her tying in the background clearly not listening to me and not allowing me to talk to ask a question. I was polite to her through the entire duration of the phone call and she acted like I was bothering her. Learn not to talk over the top of people and listen to people so you can answer appropriately. This gym has very few spots for classes and they must be registered for online making it near impossible to ever get to attend any. Also they try to sell that you can go to any Y in the country, but you can't sign up for classes outside of your network without a ton of unnecessary effort. The pool is hardly open for laps, and the weight room is super crowded and hard to get machines. The price doesn't match what you get which is nothing. Limited equipment, poorly trained fitness and yoga instructors, and high membership fees coupled with rude membership services made me cancel my membership. read more

Unfortunately, I'm extremely disappointed with the YMCA. Today Brandon and I decided to apply for the 7 day free trial at our closest location because we have heard wonderful things about the fitness classes, gym, basketball courts etc. but tonight the manager and employees made me feel embarrassed and unwelcome. Let me start with my choice of attire. I planned on working out in the gym so I picked out sports leggings and a sports crop top. I've worn this outfit many times to our previous gym and I've never thought that it was inappropriate and I've never received negative feedback about the outfit before. I walked inside to get signed up and immediately was responded with head to toe stares from multiple employees. I thought it was rude but I continued to overlook the stares and sign up- I then proceeded upstairs to the gym and was again left with death stares by more employees and members. While in the gym- I was greeted normally by an employee and proceeded to start my work out. 10 minutes into my work out that employee walked over and said to me, "I'm sorry but my manager just came upstairs to tell me that you cannot wear that kind of attire and next time it should be more appropriate. You are ok to finish your work out today but just please remember that for next time. Again, I'm sorry." (After some thought, I almost wish someone would've just told me as soon as I walked in the door so I wouldn't have been publicly embarrassed in their fitness room) You could obviously tell he was uncomfortable relaying the message to me and he kept apologizing like he knew that what he was telling me was absurd. I knew in my head that it was ridiculous and I knew in my heart that I was not dressed inappropriately. I am a woman, at the gym, working out. A sports crop top and sports leggings should not be deemed inappropriate. But I chose to respond with "ok" This is what the Y states on their site, "At the Y, we help build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all with the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility at the heart of everything we do." I do not feel like I was shown respect today and I don't feel like there was a caring energy about this facility given that almost every employee gave me dirty looks for the duration of my time there. I understand that they have a policy in place for "no inappropriate attire" but to me, I truly believed that there was nothing wrong with what I was wearing. This incident made me feel incredibly angry because as I looked around the gym- What I saw were numerous men in small bro tanks that showed much more than my outfit was (my midriff) Like it or not, I was inappropriately sexualized today and that makes me sad because I really thought that the Y was going to be welcoming. I could go on and on about this but instead I plan on not returning and I'll continue my search for a gym I can feel safe and comfortable in. read more

Spectacular!!! Simply wonderful and inclusive organization. Well ran and very clean. I just relocated to the Concord area and got a YMCA pass for my family and we are very pleased with the facility and the staff. Everything is clean and available. We have had no problems with parking and are excited for the Thanks Giving activities. Keep up the good work!! read more

One of the nicer Ys around. I can't give it 5 stars because unfortunately that's reserved for the level of the Morrison Family Y in Ballantyne, but this works well for my family and I. One of the few Ys that has an indoor heated pool! It was such a blessing last winter when I was pregnant and could still get some workout in. My favorite classes here are all of Zumba classes by Cathie (M, W & Th nights) and the yoga class on Saturday mornings. They have ample parking and a nice changing room. The pool also has a hot tub and steam room. They do have daycare that accepts babies as young as 6 weeks old and we definitely plan on making use of that pretty soon! read more

We enjoy going to this ymca. We have tried out the Kannapolis one as well, and this one is a lot nicer. A lot of group classes, nice gym/free weights, pool, sauna, steam room. We utilize the childcare- and my kid cries EVERYTIME he leaves because he enjoys it so much! My only complaint is that they don't allow two piece bathing suits for women- to me it is no different than a man swimming with no shirt.. but, it's a Christian establishment and their views are their views. Won't deter me from using the gym! read more

I would avoid this gym, they seem to cater to a 20-30's club atmosphere where vulgar womanizing behavior is accepted. I was quite disappointed and expressed my feelings to management. I'm sure it will change nothing! read more

IF YOU NEVER READ ANYTHING ELSE ON YELP, READ THIS: THIS IS THE MOST HORRIBLE GYM THAT HAS EVER EXISTED IN THE HISTORY OF GYMS. I am still in shock and disbelief at the horror. I am a regular and avid gym-goer, I have been to too many to count. I chose the YMCA as my gym because the price is reasonable and I have so many branch options. I live in Charlotte and the Charlotte Y's are incredible. One day I thought that after work (in Concord) I would wait out traffic at the gym, so I googled a YMCA that is close by. I wanted to use the stairmaster so I CALLED SPECIFICALLY in advance to ask if there was a stairmaster at the facility. I was told there was. THERE IS NOT. So okay that is annoying since I probably wouldn't have come if they had told me no, clearly it was important since I was calling in advance so the person who answered could have had the decency to make sure. But that is not the worst part of my experience. I walked in and was RUDELY greeted by the front desk who informed me that this YMCA does not have "reciprocity" with other gyms, so I had to fill out paperwork and show them ID. Minor inconvenience, but my point was to get in a quick workout instead of waiting in traffic so the extra time and the impolite service was already making me irritable. I walked up the stairs once I was finally in and politely greeted a woman at a desk, asking where the cardio equipment is. She looked up at me, rolled her eyes, and said "down the hall." Now, maybe I am bad with directions but there seemed to be about 3 different hallways. So I asked if she could be more specific. She angrily got up and walked in the direction of the cardio room. When I walked in, I asked where the stairmaster is and was told by the teenager working the cardio room that "there was something like it in there." Annoyed, I decided I would still work out because I was already there so I went to the locker room to change. The image of that locker room will haunt my nightmares for all of eternity. It was basically the size of a guest bathroom in a home (like the type with no bath or shower) and dirty. The lockers were old and looked more appropriate for a prison than a gym locker room. There were two other women in there and the three of us were basically touching as I tried to awkwardly change. Still, when I want to exercise I am determined that nothing will get in my way. So fully dressed and ready, I left the gym and lo and behold, the wi-fi wasn't working and there is no service!!! I asked at reception and they said "sometimes it's slow." That was it. No music, no work out. I got my stuff and RAN out of there, and drove as fast as my car would let me vowing to never return. Do yourself a favor and learn from my nightmare, do not come here. If anyone from management ever reads this, talk to your staff. Fix your wi-fi, or tell your customers that somewhere out there the YMCA's are wonderful and they need to go elsewhere. read more

Just joined this YMCA last week and I love it! For the last 7 years I've been a member of a comparable fitness & aquatics center in Huntersville that I absolutely loved. I live much closer to this YMCA but have been reluctant to join because I didn't think it could compare to the facility I've been at...boy was I wrong! This Y is great. Clean facility, tons of really nice equipment, a woman's only workout room, 2 exercise class studios, a 25m lap pool, child watch, an indoor year round kid pool, basketball court, and lots more. There is a large variety of fitness classes available throughout the day for every age & fitness level. So glad I made the switch, just wish I hadn't waited so long! read more

Does not get any better! My wife and I as well as kid enjoy this YMCA to the fullest extent. It was hard to find a gym to work out in that didn't only accommodate us in the workout room but also give my kid the experience to interact with other children In the playhouse. We will be longtime YMCA goers... honestly haven't been anywhere that could do any better. Way to go Y of Concord. You guys rock! read more

Can't hear the water aerobics instructor because the wading pool is full of screaming children at 10am. Better suited as a daycare than someone who is serious about working out. Will go elsewhere. read more
