Located at the corner of Charleston and Comm College. Can access from both streets. Parking lot looks like it is in parts, though. It's not just the front part, it kinds wraps around the building, though, if that makes any sense. I stopped by last night, (braved all the traffic) to get the last state park pass remaining at the Reference desk. This is nice library, I was pleasantly surprised. There is a security guard, just like at the Sahara West Library, our regular/ local library. I like that there are sections to the library. Easy to find areas. I didn't need to ask anyone. Came to the library without knowing where we were headed. I was very interested in getting some books that contained knowledge. I found some. If you are looking for knowledge this isn't a terrible place to come to. BEWARE THE BATHROOMS THOUGH there are literally people in there doing some questionable stuff. There were plant items in the toilet. Also it's impossible to get into a big stall because they are permanently occupied by homeless people. Like that's their camp. I was there for two hours and went in the bathroom when I first arrived and there was a guy and when I left he was still there! Who is taking that long??! read more

Don't bother coming here for classes. They refuse to allow registration. And because they won't do registration, I wound up wasting my time, driving clear across town, showing up 20 minutes before the class was supposed to start and then being turned away. I requested politely that they try out registration, and I was completely shut down. They claimed that once upon a time a long long time ago some people registered and then didn't show up. They refuse to consider the fact that certain classes can fill up with people who will show up, so they won't even try it out with a few classes. Really rude response from manager too- they couldn't be "bothered" to actually talk with me, maybe explain if they have other reasons- instead they send messages through staff. That suggests that they're tired of hearing this request, which means that a LOT of their customers have requested it (rather than having their time wasted by driving over only to be turned away or having to show up hours before a class just to make sure they aren't turned away, which also results in a bunch of our time being wasted. But apparently, they don't care about our time and whether they're wasting it) If this was a commercial business, this totally would NOT FLY! Must be nice for this manager that they have a cush government job where they obviously don't have to care about the people who are paying for their salary. read more

Couldn't wait to visit my new library. But... sadly it's been a huge letdown. Staff never knows anything. Constantly contradicts each other on answers. Internet / WiFi is always down. Which means other services like printing are not avail. It's also very loud inside. The days of people keeping their voices down is long gone. Just close this place. read more

Brought my daughter in and they were having the free snacks for kids our first time keep in mind. I didn't know that she had to eat it inside the library and I was very OKAY with it. But the male librarian started grunting and banging on the paper that was on the desk that states the rule. Keep in mind there is a line of parents/kids so I couldn't read the paper. All that for not explaining while picking up the free snacks to begin with. Before leaving he looked at us up and down to make sure that my kids had eaten it. This is strictly for the library auditorium and staff that worked the auditorium for the hula Christmas show. I love how the seats were at a slant so the back row can see what is on stage without problem and how each seat have flip over desk tables. The staff were very attentive, friendly, and helpful. Whenever you go to the West Charleston Library to use the meeting rooms, PLEASE TAKE ALONG SANI WIPES TO CLEAN DOWN. They do not clean the meeting rooms after people use them. The meet rooms are usually dirty and also the chairs. I ALWAYS have to wipe the tables and chairs. Recently I could not believe the dirty condition of the meeting room, and the chairs was especially black with dirt. They need to understand that people use these room in-and-out around the clock. They need to keep them clean because people book them for business meetings. read more

Not bad and not huge inside, but it's definitely a good location to check out next to a college campus. I came for the art gallery displays. Public restrooms right across the art gallery. The library itself isn't all fancy here, but they do have great book selections and items to check out. Views of outside from windows aren't attractive because you can see the busy retail area with lots of cars passing through. It feels overcrowded at times and noise levels do pick up here in the book aisles and computers sections. Lots of students or work groups. Rooms are filled with people. Public parking lot was ok. The building looks better on the outside compared to the book areas inside. Art gallery stands out. Discounted bookstore is small. It's still a great place to sit and relax. I will have to revisit to get a better feel of the place. I would recommend walking over to the beautiful college campus if you want to take some photos or get a stretch. West Charleston Library needs better window views. It looks like old Vegas outside, but the library itself is ok. Yes, Wifi can be slower here, but overall, there's plenty of room for improvement. read more

I had never been to this branch of the Las Vegas-Clark County System. I came here as a volunteer for a program sponsored by the Friends of Nevada State Museum Las Vegas on the Folies Bergere. There is an exhibit ongoing for a few months in a separate room with two costumes. In addition, the evening was for a talk by the author of a book about the Folies. The auditorium is a wonderful room. The comfortable chairs have lift up writing platforms for taking notes. The sound system is excellent. I was a bit early and I renewed my LVCCLD card which is now good for two years rather than needing to be renewed every year. The area where the Folies exhibition is being held is a glass enclosed large room. It's a wonderful spot for an exhibition as it draws people from btoh entrances. The main part of the library is bright and has modern architecture. It is very pleasing to the eye. read more

Love the library it's always clean in the children's section. The normal librarian I see in children's section is always nice and does the story times on Saturdays, today I came on a Sunday it's a different librarian she's unfriendly and shush's the kids every 2 minutes, we're on the kids side of coarse it isn't going to be as quite as the adult area. I saw my son playing in the play area and he's talking to himself and she shushes him and looks at me then avoids eye contact with me. Maybe she shouldn't be in kids area if any kind of noise bothers her. But everyone else here in kid area is usually friendly and nice. read more

Just got a library card here this morning- experience was quick and painless, employee was efficient if not particularly friendly. Looks large from the outside. It didn't necessarily appear as large inside, teen area is pretty tiny. A good chunk of the space is the kids area, to the left at the entrance. Found DVDs, audiobooks, and CDs galore! Usual limit is 7 items at a time, I need to go back with proof of new reside cut o increase my limit- stick at 2 until that goes through, which is understandable. "New" book and DVD section was a little underwhelming, but DVD selection overall was good. Will be returning for books when my limit increases! read more

It is one of the library I go to often, because of its location. Since it is basically adjcent to the CSN Charleston campus. Which can be a nightmare for finding parking when school is in session. It is not as nice as the West Sahara branch, but it doeshave a good collection of cooking related books, which is what I am usually here for. And if you are a nursing student at CSN, this library has a good medical periodicals section. The best part of this library, which like the other libraries within the Las Vegas Clark County Library District, is the free DVD that library patrons can borrow. They actually have some interesting foreign film selections. Popular and new releases may take some times to finally be available, assuming you put a request for it. The worst part of this library is that Internet connection is rather unstable. Having to frequently reconnect is a pain in the arse. And there seems to be more chatty patrons here compared to the main branch and West Sahara branch, which can be a little annoying. I really think this library is only deserving of 2.5 stars, but since you can't award that, I will give it 3 stars partly because of location. read more

Yelp 100 Challenge * 26/100 If you're a student at CSN, this library is a great alternative for studies - especially if the school library gets packed (like how everyone's suddenly there during exams week!) I like to indulge myself in the posters on display upon going through the west entrance because they offer the public a variety of free (and some not free, but affordable!) shows to enjoy, one of them being the Dreamgirls production set for the coming weekend. For those who can't access school wi-fi, this library has their own speedy internet that does not require a password. Nothing fancy about it (nothing compared to the UNLV library). Premises are always kept clean and they have a good variety of books. read more

How can anyone complain about a place like this. I've been here for a few hours now and I'm able to completely done out and get work done. There's plenty of table space and places top work. People are quiet. The staff is very helpful. This will be my go to library from now on. :) Take advantage of quiet study areas, the computer labs, free homework help, and the great lighting. Forget coffee shops and just bring your own here. Also, there are tons of workshops you can attend every month. read more

While it is still is not the gem of a shiny, new library that Centennial Hills library is (and probably will never be considering how much they keep slashing LVCCLD funding), CH can learn a thing (or fifty) about how to treat their patrons when something goes awry. Their lost & found system is absolutely German-like in its efficiency (and yes, those Germans are efficient). If CH gave half a shit that WC does about what its patrons mistakenly leave or have purposefully stolen, one would not have to feel like one is has an unlocked locker full of unmarked, non-sequential large bills at the Penn Station everytime one walks into the library. - E read more

I use various Las Vegas library locations, and this one is pretty decent. Books and materials are all in one large area, rather than being all spread out. This makes it easy to find exactly what you need. I always get the audio books, and they have a good selection. They are nicely laid out too, making the search simple and painless. read more

The location of this library is very convenient for me. It's pretty low-key. You can just do your thing and get out of there without a hassle. Their gallery is amazing. I love seeing what new art is on display. I think they mostly show local artists. Lately, I've been noticing more homeless people in the library...and coincidentally (?) there was also a painting exhibit about homelessness in the gallery when I visited last. read more

So full disclosure, I haven't set foot into a public library probably in almost 20 years, so I don't have much to compare to. But coming here twice in the last two days, really there isn't much to complain about. The surly security guard? Nope, nice and friendly. Curt employees at the help desk, nope, not there either. In fact everyone I encountered was perfectly decent. I read online beforehand how to get a card. Yep I'm one of "those people" who have lived here for years but still have an ID from my home state. The website made it seem like I could only get a guest card good for 3 months and 2 items checked out at a time without a govt issued ID for NV. When I went in, the woman who helped me said all I needed was a piece of mail to prove I had an address here. So day one I checked out one book, and today we came back with a utility bill and very quickly the same lady updated my acct and now I can check out 50 items! I left with six. There is a self check out area with several kiosks and it's very easy to figure out, even with no signs or help. First scan your card. Then you just put your items on the desk (actually just kidding, there is a sign that says to put your items in that area) and the sensor scans your items. Sometimes it can scan two stacked on top of each other, so double check with the screen what you got scanned already. If you are getting any DVDs, make sure you remember to unlock the cases. The unlocker thing is on the left and you simply swipe the DVD from top to bottom and the red "locked" icon magically changed to a green "unlocked" one. Wow! Then when you're done a receipt prints out and tells you when each is due back. Some DVDs are due back in 7 days, so pay attention. read more

Possibly the best thing about the Vegas library system is the online facility for requesting books and DVDs for pickup at the location of your choosing. Looking at my zip code, the system selects West Charleston as my default branch. When I request an item, I have to remember to change the location to Sahara West. I first started going to West Charleston when it was a clean, modern facility perched on the edge of a good-sized expanse of open desert. The junior college campus was just a nightmare waiting to happen. Visiting this branch was enjoyable. It was practically new, never crowded, and very quiet. Those days are over. It's always busy and noisy. It has been allowed to get run down and dirty. Parking is a pain. Ingress/egress is awful. It's never fun coming here. Luckily the Sahara West library isn't too far away. I think gas would have to go to $6 a gallon before I'd become concerned about burning the extra gas. When I request anything (book or movie) from the library, I'm always surprised that they have it. For example, the 1999 Albert Brooks movie "The Muse." They don't have it. How about "La Dolce Vita," one of the all-time classics? They can't be bothered. They're too busy making a major purchase of "You Don't Mess With Zohan." And you call yourselves a LIBRARY? The library's misguided policy of buying 100 copies of a dopey movie like "How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days" but zero copies of something worthwhile like "Never Cry Wolf" can frustrate users like me who have interests beyond smash hits. Why not just ONE copy of Never Cry Wolf for crackpots like me? Can't the library accommodate a few misfits who like obscure but excellent movies? Sure, it takes extra effort to go deeper than the best-seller lists, but shouldn't the library be more than a free Netflix? Doesn't cultural enrichment figure in somewhere? I asked a librarian about it. He said the chances that the library will buy a movie like Never Cry Wolf are practically nil. There is no demand for a movie about a guy who lives among wolves. For what it's worth, you can use the online facility to suggest a library purchase. Since they only buy hit movies, I guess you can ask for a popular movie they somehow overlooked. I sent them an email to complain but of course they didn't reply. Leave it to our fellow humans to abuse it. Somehow your fellow library patrons find a way to damage and destroy DVDs. How does a DVD get destroyed when all that is involved is taking it home, removing it from the case, playing it, and returning it to the case? My guess is these swine let their kids play with the DVDs. They probably have to retrieve the discs from the toy chest before returning them. Yes, you will have the disappointment of enjoying a movie only to have it freeze in the middle because some ignorant scumbag has destroyed it. read more

This place is spacious and bright- so fricken bright that if you get a seat by the glass wall you might cook in the summer. But really, what do you expect? The staff is always in a pretty helpful mood, and you can usually get the books you want. Computers are another thing. If you can't get a computer it is usually because: There are people sleeping by some; a lot of them are not working; some douche shut one down so you have to go get someone to revive it; or you have the people who watch their tv shows and play WOW on them. The majority of the time, if you have time that is, you can wait it out and get one pretty fast. Though, there are douches who will glide in and sit their fat asses in the seat you have been waiting RIGHT BY FOR. read more

I was disappointed in this library's wifi. It worked great for a week, then slowed down for almost an entire week to the point where it was actually useless. It improved a little bit toward the end of the week, but I can't imagine why a library would have such bad wifi for so long. Then my sister went there a couple of days ago to print some things, and the printer defaults to landscape instead of portrait, which is ridiculous, especially since it doesn't tell you that. You have to go into the Advanced Settings to make the change. And they still make you pay for everything you print. My sister had 20 pages, and it wasn't a hardship for her to pay an extra $2, but it is for a lot of people in that area. I spend a lot of time in libraries all over the country, and I've never run into problems like this at any of them. This looks like bad management to me. read more

For a place that provides a free service I really can't complain. On the other hand I've moved from Schaumburg, IL which is rated as one of the top libraries in the country. This library was a little underwhelming but it will suffice. Getting my library card took a couple of minutes and didn't require too much verification. Their children's area had a good selection of books and some computers. I was happy to see the library offers a sensory reading time for SPD and ASD kids once a month as well as Duplo time. The preschool set has a variety of activities to choose from. read more

Books! I really can't rate a library low, this isn't my favorite one but it'll do! The library itself is located next to CSN and the parking area is a one way. That is one of the worst qualities about this library, people constantly use the entrance and an exit. It's set up that way for a reason! Sure, it may take an extra minute to follow the rules and exit the correct way, but it's not going to kill you! The childrens book selection is pretty decent for the smaller library, I love the way they're all divided by fiction, non fiction, and various other subjects. It makes looking for a book on a topic a breeze! They also offer childrens internet computers and a little area to sit. The adult section is also pretty snazzy, not huge like Sahara West but pretty neat. Finding a book in the adult section is also a breeze! Really the only down fall is the parking and that they only have 2 customer service reps. At least they're kind, though. I was happy to fork over the 28$ fine I owed. Hehe! Yay! read more

Well I used to love the libraries here in town but now if I save anything to my drive though the library word, adobe or PDF I have to subscribe to them and pay a monthly subscription fee to have those because They updated their computer system. So even the library is a scam now . at home I cant open and use what I saved on my drive without paying. .this is for my own files wow horrible. They Branch managers should know.
