This review is different from my last review because it's based on a eye emergency. Two to three…read moreweeks after getting an eye exam for new prescription glasses I noticed that my left eye ached a little bit and I started seeing flashes of light that looked like miniature thunderbolts and some black floaters. I didn't call Dr. Ward the first day because we had a storm that made tornados that were in our area - in fact we were under a tornado warning most of the day. Thankfully our area was unaffected but several miles up the road severe damage was done. I called the first thing Friday morning and explained my symptoms to the receptionist who stated "You need to get in here ASAP,it doesn't sound good and we will be closing soon." I live only ten minutes away so I was there as fast as could be. They took me back to an examination room right away, I explained to the assistant my symptoms which she relayed promptly to Dr. Ward who said to dilate my left eye right away. I was extremely nervous and apprehensive about the condition of my eye and how whatever it was would affect my sight in the future. I have to say how wonderful she was! She put my mind at ease by explaining the procedures and understanding my fears. She rubbed my arm and said all will be well. Then she turned out the lights and told me to relax and let the eye drops do their job. After about ten minutes she came back in and checked the size of my pupil and said it looked good and dilated enough for doctor to come in. Dr. Ward came right away and talked to me to help my anxiety about my vision even more. He was warm, kind and caring. He took his scope with an extremely bright light and looked inside my eye all the way back to the retina. He told me to look one way with my eyes and then the other way, up and down. He told me I had an eye condition called Detached Vitreous. He explained that there is a clear jelly like substance that is before the retina and that it had detached from the back of my eye. He said I didn't need laser surgery at that time because in a lot of instances it will reattach itself if I followed his directions. He gave me a print out of all the precautions I had to follow. No bending over, no lifting anything heavier than 10 pounds. No activity to cause the pressure in my eyes to go up, no banging or shaking of my head and I had a special eye chart that I had to look at using my left eye only. It had a black dot in the middle of a grid and if the lines became wavy or disappeared I had to call him right away. He also told me if my vision changed during the weekend I had to go to the emergency room right away. Very easy to understand direction after my visit to do. He also stated I had to return in two weeks for him to check my eye again to see how it was healing. His staff got me in and checked out with temporary sunglasses in less than an hour. I left his office with a appointment for two weeks feeling infinitely better with his diagnosis and care. Two weeks later I returned for a check up. Dr. Ward said my eye was healing but not completely so I had to continue for two more weeks of restrictive activities. Since there is a lot of road construction going on in our town he even told me to stay away from those roads since they were pretty torn up. I not only recommend Dr. Ward and his wonderful staff for eye glasses but most importantly for any eye problems/ diseases you may be experiencing. I only have wonderful things to say about his care. My vision is doing great - I am able to read and write again (especially my Yelp reviews) and resume all my activities. Following his directions for that month I truly believe helped save my eyesight so I didn't end up with a detached retina which requires laser surgery. Ward's Eye Center is fantastic for all your vision needs!

He couldn't stop talking about himself and all his accomplishments. I've been a patient of his for quite some time and he didn't remember me. Couldn't even look at my chart then and greet me by my name. His office screwed up my husbands' prescription 3 times. Left the astigmatism off and his glasses were made incorrectly. My husband called him and called him out on his remarks to me. He apologized saying he may have been over the line. He said everyone makes mistakes and that he had already made 3 that day. Do you want a Dr. that makes 3 or more mistakes a day? I will not be returning to this weirdo anymore.

His eye was hurting more and getting inflamed. He spoke to the receptionist and he explained the situation and she told him it would be July before he could see a doctor and they would only take emergencies. He told her his eye was hurting and she said that's not an emergency. He hung up and we found a doctor who saw him the next morning. He had a hair deep in the eye that was not visible to us. He is now on antibiotics and we have a new eye doctor. No, the issue was not an emergency, but I thought they would at least fit him in as that's what eye doctors do. If it had been an emergency we would have gone to the ER.

When we went to get my mother's medical records to find a better place you won't believe these excuses. We could only get 2 1/2 years of records because they don't have a lot of toner for the printer. They could not fax it to new doctor because fax machine was broken. They had an excuse for everything. Excuses are made for you, they don't help me at all. It's 2025 they don't have good enough programs to just email it or download to an email. They are in prehistoric times evidently in their office and can't seem to be able to help you period. My mother is loosing her eyesight because of the lack of communication in that office

I called Dr Kesen's office and in 15 minutes I was speaking with the Julie and 10 minutes later with Dr. Kesen. They were like angels on the other end of the phone. I went to her office in The Villages and indicated I needed surgery for a severly torn retina the next day. I usually like to study my options but Dr Kesen was compassionate and knowledgeable. My impressioin was she had the confidence and experrence to perform this delicate surgery. I was afraid but decided to put my faith iin Dr. Kesen. The surgery went well. The recovery in a face down position was uncomfortable and the stiches in my eye were irritating but after 3 weeks, my field of view has been restored. My vision is improving but still a little blurry in the right eye. The vision quality takes 2-6 months to stabilize. I am optimistic with the results especially compared to my vision before the surgery. While in the face down position I had a chance to read. I found Dr. Kesen completed her residency at Temple University, studied ocular inflamation and immunology at the University of Illinois - Chicago and completed surgical fellowships at Duke University and John Hopkins University. She has been trained by the best schools in the country and has years of experience on the leading edge of retinal surgery. I reallized I was in excellent hands. I am thankful for Dr. Kesen and her staff at the Retina Specialty Institute in Inverness and The Villages.
