I would not trust this office. When I arrived to the Palo Alto office, there was no receptionist. Dr. Rubenstein showed me to a room which was old and didn't look clean. Per the Laser Nail Therapy messages, I was supposed to be able to have a consultation before deciding, but Dr. Rubinstein proceeded as if I were already signed up for treatment. When I asked for information, he used scare tactics to tell me and show me how awful my foot fungus could get. Then he used a sander just like those anyone can use in nail salons except that his looked old and dirty. He removed parts of my nail (which of course does not remove fungus) with the sander. It hurt a great deal as he sanded down to my skin. I feel sorry for the next person as well since I didn't see any cleaning of the instrument afterwards. He only did the laser treatment on one toe for maybe 5 minutes or less and gave me some regular over the counter anti-fungal meds (including one that was taped shut and probably shipped wholesale). Then he charged me for the whole foot even though he only did one toe-$980 for painful unsanitary treatment of one toe. He tried to convince me to do another foot and I said no. Dr. Rubinstein prescribed the same internal fungus med, Terbinafine, my primary had prescribed without getting any medical history from me. Of course, if you take Terbinafine regularly for a long time that is probably going to help, but I understand that it's a pretty harsh medicine that can cause a number of side effects and reactions. For this reason, doctors usually monitor their patients liver while they are taking it. Dr. Rubinstein tried to push me to set up another appointment and I said no. Then he ushered in the next patient, and I did not see any removal of the paper sheet on the table where I was barefoot. I think going to this place probably puts people at more risk. The prices are also very high compared to other laser places. I would keep researching and find a different place and maybe not through Laser Nail Therapy. I've contacted Laser Nail Therapy to report the issues, but it was just a young man on the phone with no information. He said he'd talk to his manager, but it's been several days, and I have had no response. read more

Horrible service. Came in for an appt at 4:00pm did not get called in until 5:30pm. The Dr kept calling in people who came in after me and would say "sorry let me just see them first". Unacceptable wait times. When I went in to talk with the Dr I was rushed and told "okay I can do laser on you" without an explanation of why he wanted to do the laser or what the issue was. The office is extremely old and gets overpacked with no room to sit. The inside of the treatment area is extremely messy and unorganized. This isn't your standard Doctor's office; Dr. Rubinstein is focused on solving your foot problems and getting them done efficiently. I came to him with a lesion that had gotten worse and my insurance provider wouldn't really provide clarity or a solution that really gave me peace of mind so I went directly to Dr. Rubenstein. He's a super personable guy and is very informative and easy to talk to and learn from. Very much reminds me of a community Dr where you can place your trust in them to look after your best interest. Got livingsocial because I have a beginnings of fungus on two nails and wanted to try laser. Already done: essential oils (did not work), 3 months with Amorolfine and did not see any difference, so this was my third step - laser. Went this way because I do not want to take pills that are currently on the market due to the possibility of the liver damage. I want to keep my liver humming so that I may enjoy the finer things in life. 1st off, left 3 messages w/out a call back. Filled out an online form asking for them to contact me. No callback. Eventually started calling every 30mins. Got through. Placed on hold. Hang up. Called back. Got appointment that was the same week. OK, great for me, but good docs are in demand and you won't get a same week appointment. Fine, I thought, just laser, whatever. Saratoga av office is old, disorganized, not too clean and, I assume, belongs to his wife the chiro and he takes it over on weekends. I received a form to fill out, asking for SSN and insurance info, which I declined to give as it was a livingsocial deal + never received any info on confidentiality practices on said office. Waited a bit. Doc examined toes, said everything will get eradicated. Clipped the toenails. Clipper came from the jar with the disinfectant, where, I hope it was soaking long enough between the patients. Then proceeded to file down with a nail drill that I did not see him change for me. So assume it was used on others! OMG, gross. I hope I do not get a worse case of fungus from this doctor! Zapped with laser, nothing remarkable here. However, he kept talking nonstop about anything and everything, including his receptionist who offed herself. I do not want to know about a random person who offed herself over sleeping with someone I don't know either. Listening skills: 0. I said I was there because I did not want any liver-damage causing pills. Casually it went from laser to him saying he will give me pills and nail polish to clear it all. I asked about liver damage. He said those pills do not cause liver damage, not that kind, etc. Fine. I will take a prescription and then decide if I really fill it or not. Asked about nail polish because I already used Amorolfine and it did not do much. He did not know what Amorolfine was. Huh? Anyway, walked out with a prescription for terbinafine and Jublia (nail polish). Google terbinafine and tell me this pill is not known to cause liver damage. No questions on my medical conditions, liver issues or discussion of possible side effects or the need for liver function tests during/post terbinafine. Complete negligence. I am not going back. I suggest you don't go there to start with. Basically, I walked out with an understanding that laser won't cure it, therefore, you get pills and nail polish. read more

As a dancer, I take my foot health very seriously, and wanted to find treatment for a nail fungus problem that had developed on my big toe - nip this in the bud before it spreads! I saw Dr. Rubenstein in his small San Francisco office for the PinPoint Laser treatment and was totally satisfied. Dr. Rubenstein was friendly, cheerful, easy to talk to, and put me at ease. He did not rush through the treatment or try to hurry me out the door. His scheduling assistant was very prompt in following up with an appointment when I submitted a request on his website. The treatment was truly pain-free during and afterwards. No cutting, no nail removal, no injections, no anaesthesia - you only feel a warm sensation from the laser. Dr. Rubenstein kindly offered to go over the perimeter of all my toes to make sure I wasn't brewing something else in neighboring spots. I just received my laser treatment today so I don't know how effective it is yet. However, I feel confident that this will eliminate my problem. Dr. Rubenstein is awesome. I called for information about the Toenail Fungus Laser Treatment. I have never experienced such an unprofessional phone call in my life!! In the middle of asking her questions she rudely said "I have other things to do so do you want to come in next week or what?!" I understand medical offices are busy, but I also know that customer service is key. Thanks to her this office lost my mother as a patient and also a couple more family members as they all suffer from this fungal infection. I answered her question as "no thank you, you sound very rude and unprofessional I'll take my business elsewhere" and i hung up. I saw Dr. Rube stein after having contracted a fungal infection from a foot spa (the jets where you place your feet in during a pedicure). The facility that I went to was small and hard to find; however the works go above and beyond to help you AS SOON AS THEY CAN. The fact is that the facility in San Jose is only open Tuesday and Thursday and the gals that work there are nice enough to answer and follow up on their days off, this is the reason why the person in the other review had trouble scheduling their appointment. Overall, this doctor is experienced and knows what he is doing. I had an infection that haunted me for about 3 years, and I am a woman who loves to wear open toed shoes and sandals and this was a burden. I got a generic for Lamasil and vavavoom just like that after laser and medication, my nail started to grow clear. After all, isn't this what you want? Clear nails? I did my first visit with Dr. Rubinstein via a Group-on. At my initial visit I was told I had a very mild case of toe nail fungus. Pictures were taken and the treatment began. Afterwards I was given some topical to use once per day. Setup another visit. Well on my last visit number 4 we both agreed that my mild case of fungus was not responding to his treatment. Dr. Rubinstein suggested that I try Lamisil, check with my doctor first. I am aware of this drug and not at all interested, since it can damage the liver. Also was given the latest & greatest topical now Jublia, and the reviews on that are not good. I was given 20% off each visit, the last one being $100, even though I asked for a free one. Bottom line Lamisil can rid you of toenail fungus, have seen friends results. I try to keep my nails toenails clean & short, & buffed. Again I do feel I have a mild case of toenail fungus from pictures I have seen online. I have another appointment which I plan to cancel. I plan to wait it out and use recommended topical's, but no more $$$ going out for these laser treatments. I have read some of the reviews and agree with some the of the disappointments. I was completely disappointed with what I can only call a "near miss" experience. I made an appointment based on generally positive reviews. The receptionist phoned me one hour prior to my appointment (4:30 on a Thursday) to confirm. I phoned her back and actually spoke to her to confirm that I was on my way. At 4:25 I pulled in to a small, run-down office building. West Coast Laser apparently leases an office on the second floor of the shabby office park. Minutes before 4:30, I was at the door. It was locked. I knocked. Nothing. I called, and heard my call ringing on the other side of the door. Crickets. I left a message at exactly 4:30, asking what had happened...family emergency? A bad lunch? Why, if I had confirmed one hour prior, was no one there? I expected a phone call back the next business day. Again, nothing. Wow. With customer service like that, it's amazing they're still in business. I can't comment on the effectiveness of the treatment, since I never got it, even though I had pre-paid through Groupon. I got a refund...I guess West Coast Laser doesn't need my money. read more

My experience with Dr. Rubinstein was excellent. I called the number on the website and he actually answered when i first called. He then had his assistant call me back for an appointment. I was able to get in very quickly (1 week) for the appointment. There is valet parking behind the building on Post St. SF. Dr. Rubinstein was cheerful and courteous and thoroughly explained the procedure. I had 6 toes treated. My case was a bit worse than most as I HAD WAITED YEARS to seek professional treatment. But this was not a problem for Dr. Rubinstein, as he went over the extreme problem areas for the same price (very reasonable price) that i was quoted over the phone. He did not rush the pinpoint laser treatment at all. He is a great conversationalist touching on subjects from international and local politics, travel, culture, music... all with a smile and good attitude. This made the time pass quickly. I will check back in w/ Dr. Rubinstein in 6 months (and with yelp too) to see if i need a touchup. It will take about 6 months for the nails to grow out and show if they are healthy.
