Great shower pressure earns them a star! Being a Wyndham hotel, they are pet friendly. Another star. A nice love seat and long coffee table. I imagine it doesn't get a true cleaning very often, but it was very useful to have. A third star I was too tired to check the cable. Sorry. Halls to the room needed vacuuming, badly. Strange white chips had been trampled into the carpet which, let's face it, was filthy and disgusting, in the first place. Pretty typical. The bed was comfy. But the box spring made an eerie creaking noise whenever I rolled over. This must of thoroughly freaked out our littlest dog and she launched into a barking fit each time, which I found hilarious and Mrs. E......did not. I remained still all night. We arrived late and upon check in we discovered ants all over our bathroom floor, and all over the air conditioning unit. The bathroom toilet was also dirty and there was long hair on our towels. The window in our room was damaged from what appeared to be an attempt to get in from the outside. The floor also had cracker crumbs all over. read more

It was okay. The room was clean but had like 3 different free soaps. Didn't know if they were just recycling or people had left them there. The breakfast was not very diabetic friendly. High carb and added sugars. Could of ate toast with peanut butter and some coffee but didn't feel like it for breakfast. The gym was under construction. Had a nice scare walking by and there was a worker with no shirt, on his knees looking up at us. Made you walk by quicker on the next pass by. The front desk clerk was nice enough to change our room because of mobility issues, no elevator. read more

Where to begin with this stay, it all started when I discovered that we would be punished for making decent time, arriving 2 or 3 hours early resulting in us paying a $35.00 early check- in fee per room (even though the rooms were cleaned and ready.) I was really struggling to understand why I needed to pay $70.00 to check in to the rooms I booked under the same name and at the same time when they were already cleaned, but we were heading to the Iowa State fair and really needed to drop our bags off, so we gave in. This early check-in fee was hard for me to accept because we had stayed at a different hotel a few weeks back that had many more guests, and they accommodated our early check - in without penalty. I think it's important to note that when you pull into the parking lot, you should understand that your stay at the hotel will be very questionable. There were two men laying in a rundown truck with their feet hanging out of the window and bag full of garbage right by the hotel entrance. The part of town that this hotel is located in is nice and doesn't give off questionable vibes, this hotel destroys the locations reputation. The check in process was relatively painless but the hotel was very hot and there was no central air throughout the hallways so it was a bit stale. We had to split from our family, since they were booked in a separate building, and found our room. The keyless entry did not work so well so we needed to give it a few tries before we were able to enter the room. Our room smelled very strongly of air freshener, and we couldn't see since every lamp in the room was unplugged. We plugged the lamps in, got our stuff situated, and left for a few hours to attend the fair. We wanted to spend more time together so we all gathered in one room around 9:30 or 10:00 for a little wind down time and to talk about the fair. One thing that we did notice was that the strong air freshener smell was gone and that was replaced by stale cigarettes, which would also explain why the air in the room as off and the windows were open when we arrived. On the way back to the room my sister wanted a pop and we wondered why the bottles were sitting in the vending machine upside down and slightly turned, that's because what we thought was a Crush orange pop was really a Push orange pop. They still insist on charging over $2.00 for a clearly generic pop. I get they are in the business to make money but come on!!! One of my young nephews fell off of a chair while we were hanging out and next thing we know we are receiving a noise complaint. I was upset by this because someone from the front desk knocked on the door, my other young nephew answered the door and the front desk person gave him the "what for" without even speaking to an adult. My younger nephew falling is an accident and nothing that should be grounds for potential removal from the property. We no longer felt comfortable moving around our room since we were now fearful of the potential possibility of being kicked out. Shortly after this we all went to sleep in the extremely uncomfortable beds with sheets that didn't even stay on the mattresses. No one got any sleep because we were up all night taking turns pulling the sheets back on the bed that no one wanted to even touch because the mattresses were dirty. It was hard enough sleeping on a bed that we found hair in knowing that the hair didn't belong to any of us so we really didn't need this added dirt bonus. The next morning we met downstairs for breakfast and that was the icing on the cake. The first thing that I found out was that someone attempted to enter my families room well before check out time and while they were still asleep. The only thing that kept the person out of their room was that they had locked their room using the door chain as well, thank goodness. My brother and sister-in-law were asleep, as well as their kids, and someone attempted to come in to their room before 9?! This is absolutely unacceptable as check out time is 11:00 am and they had not even checked out of the hotel yet. I was extremely upset when I heard this and was so thankful that we were leaving that morning because I was completely unwilling to put my family through another nights stay there. While we were sitting at the disappointing and low-level breakfast, there was a woman that walked in and she was clearly not well. She must have been under the influence and coming down from something because she was a mess. She began taking all the food she could get her hands on, blocking others from eating, and was moving back and forth in an erratic manner in front of all the food never standing still. No one said anything to her or addressed her behavior while she was making everyone else uncomfortable and she began digging through the cabinets messing around with the stuff inside. I am a teacher who was here for a week with a group of high school students. The staff here was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and comfortable. I was in a king suite that had recently been renovated. New paint, new carpet. The other rooms were all right, no complaints. The location was convenient for us. My only criticism is the "free breakfast". The coffee is terrible. The choices were very limited. There were no hot food options other than the waffles. If I come back I will seek out a different hotel with better food and a pool. read more

This hotel is not following their own Covid rules. The Super 8 website has all sorts of great Covid rules, including requiring all staff to wear masks, but this particular Super 8 chooses not to abide by their own rules. - Manager not wearing mask and was extremely dismissive and arrogant when I asked about it - Social distancing is not enforced in the lobby; people not wearing masks just lounging around - Their own "Clean Pens" cup had no pens in it, so I had to use the pen everyone else was using - No hand sanitizer anywhere, no evidence of any "extra cleaning" of any kind If you are concerned about Covid, DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! They are making a joke out of their own Covid rules at the expense of guest safety. read more

My husband was in Des Moines because his sister was very ill and in the hospital. He stayed at this hotel for four nights and told staff he was staying another 2 nights. When he returned to his room Saturday night after being at the hospital all day, his key would not work. Went to front desk and was told his room had been given to someone else- that they had a bus load of people come in so they needed the room. What?? They left my 77 year old husband without a place to stay and with no notice. Shame on this hotel! Would never stay there again! read more

Out of date, not enough parking, dirty and uninviting. The price was great, location convenient, and they allow pets so it seemed like a good option until we checked in and saw how bad the room was. Our mattress was so old it sank almost all the way down to the box spring when you sat on it. The towels were torn and had no more lining. The sheets had mysterious spots all over them. Checking in, our host or the man doing the check-in, was very delightful and helpful. The floors of the hallways, stairs and the room were very clean. All of the electrical outlets, lights and bathroom worked perfectly. The grounds are manicured with no trash. Our one night stay was uninterrupted and quiet. The room was a bit small, but had a large mini-refrigerator and microwave. All in all, I'm relieved to stay for so cheap and yet, have it be sooo clean! read more

Motel is run down and dingy. Staff are professional and helpful. Rooms are straight out of 1980 hotel decor. Parking is limited. A lot of construction crews and truck drivers stay here. So parking lot full. read more

I spent three nights at this Super 8, and I was pleased with the stay. The hotel is very quiet, despite the proximity to 80/35. There are plenty of places to eat and shop close by (four places to eat are within walking distance), and the hotel is very easy to access. I stayed in a king bed room. The room was fairly clean, although the housekeeping staff uses some sort of cleaning solution that leaves a somewhat off-putting smell. The rolling chair that is used with the desk was pretty dirty, though, and looked like it hadn't seen a cleaning rag in several weeks. I got used to the smell after a few minutes in the room, but when you first enter the room, it was a bit overpowering. The bed was comfortable, and the linens appeared to be clean and in good shape. The towels are a bit on the small and thin side, but they also appeared to be clean. Hot water in the shower was plentiful, and no problems at all with fluctuating water pressure. Set it and forget it worked well for me. The AC in the room also worked well, and I had no problems with that either. There is a continental breakfast, which offers the standard Wyndham fare of choices. You won't find eggs and bacon, but there's no reason to go hungry, either. There is no pool at this hotel, even though one of the websites I visited mentioned a pool. There is a small workout room, and there is also a sauna room, but that's about it. There is also a small area with a PC and a printer, which would allow you to print out a boarding pass, directions, etc., which is a nice touch. The free Wi-Fi worked fine for my purposes. The staff was pleasant and helpful, and check-in/check-out was hassle free. Overall, I would certainly stay here again. It's not a 4 or 5 star hotel, but you're not paying for that, and you shouldn't stay here expecting that, either. read more

I am quite pleased with the motel. The room is clean and up-to-date. The water is hot. The bed is comfortable. The air conditioning worked well in 95 degree temperatures. The breakfast was typical motel fare including waffles, biscuits and graveyard, two types of cereal, oatmeal, bananas, and yogurt. I pretty much stayed with the yogurt. Megan, at the front desk, was nice and helpful. I have not used any of the other facilities as yet - fitness center, jacuzzi, or sauna. There is no phone book in the room and the motel information guide is very limited. The TV has thousands of channels but most are shopping or not available. There is an iron and ironing board in the room. I paid $50 on Hotwire and $57 on Expedia for a king bed/ single occupancy room. read more

When we first got there it was past 3(when you can check in) our room had not been cleaned. it's very nasty. There was cobwebs everywhere.

We have stayed in Super 8 room in several states. This is one of the better ones we have stayed in. The room was nice and tidy. The jaccuzi tub was very welcome after a long day in the car driving. One of the 2 heating/cooling units had a knob on it that did not work. The lady running the front desk when we showed up in later afternoon needs to learn how to smile. She was pleasant and helpfull, just needs to learn to smile. The internet connection was excellent. When we come back this way in a couple years, we will put this place on our list to return. Even if the appleees and chilis restaurants that are next door have poor service. read more

The room was fine, but the front desk person overnight was less than helpful about helping to find parking for my moving truck and slammed doors in the morning starting around 6 am. Not really sure why. Otherwise, was told when I called I could get a gift card but was put on hold for ~15 mins and had to hang up. That is Wyndhams fault I believe. read more

The experience was a little less than what we expected, even for the good price. The room smelled of the deoderizer, the sink and toilet were stained and the whole place looked tired. At last, a Super 8 that looks pretty good on the outside and the inside. Rooms have been made more attractive than what you are used to, and the amenities are good -- refrigerator, pretty good electrical supply, better linens, better lighting. The Clive location is convenient to upscale commercial retail/restaurants. This property is a good choice for value and acceptability in the Des Moines area. VERY NICE, FRIENDLY & ACCOMMODATING! OUR STAYS 12/7 & 12/20 My husband & I were traveling from Colorado to the Chicagoland area for a wedding. We decided to take my dad & his pug with us to make it a family vacation. My dad has Parkinson's Disease and needs to always use a walker. To keep our costs down, everywhere we stopped, we reserved 1 room with 2 queen beds that was wheelchair accessible/handicap accessible. This Super 8 was an ideal stop in both directions of our trip so we reserved a room here. (We ended up getting the same room both times.) Everyone there was very nice, especially Danielle. The room was nice & clean. We loved the design of the room as well. You walked in and had a large bathroom to your left. The wheelchair accessible shower had a linear drain between the shower area and the rest of the bathroom which kept the water from getting all over the bathroom floor. You walked past the bathroom and where the room started, there was an oversized aisle in the middle that had a bed on either side. The TV, Fridge, Microwave, stuffed chair, desk and chair were on the far wall with enough of an aisle between them and the end of the beds for my dad's walker. The stuffed chair was a little too low for my dad to get in & out of, so they let us use a chair from the breakfast room. They couldn't have been nicer and we would definitely recommend this Super 8 as your next stop. read more

We were passing through, with our dog, and found that the Super 8 in Clive accepted dogs with a $10 extra charge. Nice hotel, good price. The front desk clerk was efficient and friendly. The hotel sits in a cul-de-sac with numerous other restaurants, including Mi Mexico (highly rated by some), as well as KFC, McDonald's and Chili's. If you're tired of driving, this is the place. Room was clean, the AC was super and the queen beds comfortable. Free Wi-Fi. $75.20 for the night. We'll be back. read more

I called at 11:30PM. They had a room and upon arrival the receptionist was extremely nice. He even gave me a late check out because we got in so late. The room was clean. The free breakfast was good. Parking lot was well lit. There is a Cracker Barrel right down the street if you don't want to eat the free breakfast fare of make your own waffles, cereal, hard boiled eggs, oatmeal, and biscuits & gravey. They have a AAA discount and a coupon in the magazines you can find at the rest areas. I would definitely stay here again. read more

Stayed here on my way to Michigan. I've stayed at quite a few Super 8's in my travels and this is the best on by far. Room was clean and larger than most other's Super 8 rooms. Other area's of the Motel were clean as well. There was good parking and very convenient to the interstate. Wi-fi worked great as well read more

For someone on a budget, this is a great place to stay. It was clean, the staff was friendly. I would definitely stay here again.
