The seven of us had to squeeze in at a small table. West Egg is farm to table and felt quite healthy. My scrambled eggs, bacon, whole grain toast, and corned beef hash. Nothing seemed oily not even the bacon. The corned beef hash had a bit of a sweet taste to me. It looks like it had shredded carrot in it possibly. My husband's country fried chicken eggs Benedict was delicious. He found the spinach to be more bitter than hes used to. It was pricy for breakfast for three people, with drinks, and a side it was a bit over $70. So I may just go back by myself next time! read more

ORIGIN: Mother and son Mamie and Matt Keys opened West Egg Bakery and Cafe in 2019 after closing Mamie's in neighboring Roxbury, Connecticut. The cafe's name makes reference to the nouveau riche community of that name in Fitzgerald's novel, The Great Gatsby. CONCEPT: As with the earlier venture, West Egg Bakery and Cafe serves many old and new American breakfast and lunch classics, such as corned beef hash and eggs, blueberry pancakes for breakfast, bacon and spinach and hot honey fried chicken for lunch. Baked goods are a huge draw as well, with a variety of chilled and hot beverages available to accompany. LOCATION: The cafe is tucked away in the nicely landscaped Barclay Square Shopping Center that is uniquely designed to reflect the local Colonial architecture. SERVICE: Guests order at the counter from menus that are in a large metal bucket at the entrance, and receive signs with numbers to place at their table. Friendly servers then bring dishes and utensils to the table as dishes are ready. EXPERIENCE: Upon opening the window-paned wood door guests find the cafe is bedecked with all sorts of Americana, including old metal children's sandbox shovels and splattered enamel-glazed containers. Cafe tables are scattered thought out, with enough room to allow for private conversation. A shaded outside patio lines the entrance of the cafe. A wide range of egg Benedicts are available. I experienced the fried green tomato special, as well as the crab cake egg Benedict. They are served with a healthy side of delicately seasoned greens, and sit on sliced biscuit rather than the typical English muffin. I like the textural contrast that English muffins provide, but the biscuit base offers a unique twist to the dish. A side of perfectly golden and crisp French fries were beautifully presented in a large cup, poking out like matchsticks. Other breakfast items I have experienced include the smoked salmon bagel and corned beef hash. I was surprised to find the smoked salmon bagel was not prepared, but rather its components -- pickled red onion, capers, chopped tomato, slabs of cream cheese, toasted bagel, and of course slices of smoked salmon -- displayed as a colorful platter. Black iced tea went well with this dish, and I appreciated the opportunity to select from a small collection of bagel types. The corned beef hash had a high proportion of corned beef compared to nearby Laurel Diner's highly acclaimed rendition. To boot, it was well- seasoned and included root vegetables beyond the traditional potato, and was topped by two luscious poached eggs. Besides toasted multigrain bread, a side salad accompanied this dish and was dressed in a dressing that was fragrant and flavorful. TIPS: West Egg Bakery and Cafe is open every day from 8 AM to 3 PM, except on Tuesdays. Take out is available. The cafe periodically hosts events that celebrate the community. The food was cold. The service was poor. There was no ambiance. This is the first and "last" time we will come to this restaurant. I was sitting at a table with my coffee waiting for my order which my wife was standing in line for 20 minutes. The women cleaning the table came over to me to tell me I could not sit down unless I ordered first, rudely? Check out the menu before you go, not my cup of tea. Came here for the first time on a Saturday. I was visiting the area and saw that it had good reviews so I came to check it out. It's a very cute place. You order at the register and then you get a number if you're going to eat in so they bring the food to your table. I was there for breakfast but it also looks like that have a good lunch menu. I wound up getting the WEC bacon egg and cheese on a gluten free roll and added avocado. The sandwich was delicious and very filling, it came with a side of dressed greens which I enjoyed to lighten the meal up. To drink I tried their peppermint mocha coffee which I also enjoyed. The employees were very friendly making sure I was enjoying my meal and had everything I needed. It is a little bit on the pricier side I wasn't really sure how it added up to me spending over $20. Fantastic brunch spot - Buddy and I were recently on our way to Westport and stopped here in a whim and both of us were bowled over by the food here. I had their Eggs Benedict on a biscuit and no joke, the egg yolks were orange in colour, that's how fresh the eggs were. My friend had their potato and leek soup and their friend schnitzel sandwich and they said that it was was excellent. Place is spotless and the people who run the place are friendly- I can totally see why this is a popular local spot. read more

We had the Cubano and the Classic Breakfast. Cubano was not authentic tasting like a Cubano at a Puerto Rican or Hispanic Restaurant, but the smoked Pork was really amazing! Great Sandwich. Just call it a Smoked Pork Sandwich. The Bfast my Dad had was great too. Seemed like a Tapas-style portion. I went here about 3 months ago and just writing review now. The place is really pretty inside. But I didn't like what I ordered. It was a muffin. I could taste the butter in it and it tasted like it was off or rancid. I know cooking and baking and flavors and that muffin had a stinky taste. Service is horrible! Very unfriendly staff, they appear upset to be working. My table was reprimanded not once but twice within 5 minutes for moving an outdoor table approximately 6 inches to get out of the sun. We said we'd move the table back and the first server said it was fine but to not do it again. 5 minutes later another server comes out and quite literally shouted " why did you move that table, you're not allowed to do that!" When we once again said we'd move it back, she screamed, "don't do it again!" Everyone sitting outside was now staring at us and just as confused as we were. went today for lunch with my 83 year old friend who walks with a cane because he is disabled and deaf. At least 7 people were before us on line to place orders, sign indicating the orders be placed before sitting at a table. There were several tables available. As he is unable to stand for long periods, he told me what he wanted to eat and I told him to sit down at a table while I ordered for us. An employee approached him BEFORE he sat down telling him he needed to wait on line. He explained that he could not stand that long. There ensued a rather loud back and forth, ending with his being told that we are no longer welcome there. She then came to me (still on line waiting to place an order) and told me the same. we intend never to return if they treat the disabled this way. read more

What a hidden gem. I love the ambience and the blueberry pancakes, and yes they have real maple syrup. This place has been here a while and it just keeps getting better. There's a little outside seating which is very nice. The service was good too. The coffee smells wonderful, although I didn't have any so I don't know what that's like. It has a very cozy, rustic interior with plenty of seating as well as outdoor tables for nicer weather. I've come by many times and have never been disappointed. Their lattes are delicious. I particularly love their maple cinnamon one! In terms of food, I don't think you can go wrong. Everything is high quality and delicious. There are a generous amount of tables for people to dine. They have a great menu- something for everyone. I was there with friends for breakfast- they had breakfast sandwiches, bacon and eggs with toast, pancakes, etc. There is a good selection of coffees and lattes as well. I ordered an iced cappuccino and a breakfast plate with scrambled eggs, toast, salad greens, and fruit. I think the espresso was a little weak in flavor but my breakfast was great. Clean, simple, healthy, delicious. I also bought a pumpkin muffin- which they have available year round- and I can absolutely understand why. Wow! This muffin was amazing.
