Entrance with hours noted ... indeed serving fried green tomatoes today!
    Susan K.

ORIGIN: Mother and son Mamie and Matt Keys opened West Egg Bakery and Cafe in 2019 after closing Mamie's in neighboring Roxbury, Connecticut. The cafe's name makes reference to the nouveau riche community of that name in Fitzgerald's novel, The Great Gatsby. CONCEPT: As with the earlier venture, West Egg Bakery and Cafe serves many old and new American breakfast and lunch classics, such as corned beef hash and eggs, blueberry pancakes for breakfast, bacon and spinach and hot honey fried chicken for lunch. Baked goods are a huge draw as well, with a variety of chilled and hot beverages available to accompany. LOCATION: The cafe is tucked away in the nicely landscaped Barclay Square Shopping Center that is uniquely designed to reflect the local Colonial architecture. SERVICE: Guests order at the counter from menus that are in a large metal bucket at the entrance, and receive signs with numbers to place at their table. Friendly servers then bring dishes and utensils to the table as dishes are ready. EXPERIENCE: Upon opening the window-paned wood door guests find the cafe is bedecked with all sorts of Americana, including old metal children's sandbox shovels and splattered enamel-glazed containers. Cafe tables are scattered thought out, with enough room to allow for private conversation. A shaded outside patio lines the entrance of the cafe. A wide range of egg Benedicts are available. I experienced the fried green tomato special, as well as the crab cake egg Benedict. They are served with a healthy side of delicately seasoned greens, and sit on sliced biscuit rather than the typical English muffin. I like the textural contrast that English muffins provide, but the biscuit base offers a unique twist to the dish. A side of perfectly golden and crisp French fries were beautifully presented in a large cup, poking out like matchsticks. Other breakfast items I have experienced include the smoked salmon bagel and corned beef hash. I was surprised to find the smoked salmon bagel was not prepared, but rather its components -- pickled red onion, capers, chopped tomato, slabs of cream cheese, toasted bagel, and of course slices of smoked salmon -- displayed as a colorful platter. Black iced tea went well with this dish, and I appreciated the opportunity to select from a small collection of bagel types. The corned beef hash had a high proportion of corned beef compared to nearby Laurel Diner's highly acclaimed rendition. To boot, it was well- seasoned and included root vegetables beyond the traditional potato, and was topped by two luscious poached eggs. Besides toasted multigrain bread, a side salad accompanied this dish and was dressed in a dressing that was fragrant and flavorful. TIPS: West Egg Bakery and Cafe is open every day from 8 AM to 3 PM, except on Tuesdays. Take out is available. The cafe periodically hosts events that celebrate the community. Look to their Instagram profile for announcements -- @WESTEGGCAFECT.

First visit to this cozy location in Woodbury, CT( 20 Sherman Hill). Went for breakfast and wasn't disappointed. Tables and 'high tops' for seating. Order from menu at register & be served where you're seated. Pleasant staff.. and a bakery section with muffins , scones, etc to eat in or 'take out'. Outdoor seating available, as weather permits, with awning for protection against sun. Definitely returning. Breakfast/brunch menu.

Great place for breakfast in the center of Woodbury! The food was fresh and nicely presented. The place is spacious and clean. The fried green tomatoes egg benedict I ordered were yummy but they were made with biscuits, which don't keep their shape when you cut them; I would have preferred them on an English muffin. The arugula salad was beyond delicious. We are planning to go back.

Crisp, clean modern look all around and good food! The chicken and waffle special was the better of the two plates we ordered, the other one being the Venetian schnitzel eggs benedict. The chicken was perfectly cooked for both dishes, just wish arugula wasn't the partner for the benny as we just don't care for it. The coffees were good too! Staff was friendly and service was quick.

Came here for the first time on a Saturday. I was visiting the area and saw that it had good reviews so I came to check it out. It's a very cute place. You order at the register and then you get a number if you're going to eat in so they bring the food to your table. I was there for breakfast but it also looks like that have a good lunch menu. I wound up getting the WEC bacon egg and cheese on a gluten free roll and added avocado. The sandwich was delicious and very filling, it came with a side of dressed greens which I enjoyed to lighten the meal up. To drink I tried their peppermint mocha coffee which I also enjoyed. The employees were very friendly making sure I was enjoying my meal and had everything I needed. It is a little bit on the pricier side I wasn't really sure how it added up to me spending over $20. However, it is good quality. I would definitely come back here again.

Muffins, scones, end of the day pastry case. You should see it in the morning! (Drool)

Absolutely one of my favorite restaurants hands down. Smoked salmon bahn mi, firebird sandwich, muffins, lattes and omg the almond cake! Every option is a home run. The staff are super helpful and quick. The cafe is cozy and there are a few really nice retail items. Definitely worth the drive. And visit "The Garden" nursery down the street!

I've been here a few times to grab croissants but it was our first time dining it and it was delicious! Very cozy and you can tell they have a lot of regular customers. The eggs benedict was amazing and their homemade biscuit was great. My husband got the chicken and waffles special and he loved it. We will definitely be coming back!

We LOVE this restaurant... BEST brunch we've had in Connecticut! Very friendly and helpful service. Quaint and clean eating area inside and outside.

I think that the food was good but way too expensive for what it was. Nice atmosphere nice people, but way too expensive.

Pretty good. Not mind blowing. But I had a decent meal. And the people are very nice. It's kinda pricy though. Overall, a good place.

Small cafe with delicious food. There isn't too much seating so it's best for small groups, but the food is amazing. Highly recommend.

He's a retired, lifelong firefighter, and they created the most beautiful custom cake at such a reasonable price. We originally found the bakery because it was close to the party location in Oxford where his birthday celebration was being held. Fast forward to this year, when my husband and I wanted to celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary by recreating our wedding cake: an Italian rainbow cookie in cake form. Believe it or not, not a single bakery near us would agree to make it, including a few that proudly call themselves the best Italian bakeries around. We had almost given up hope. Then my husband was helping his dad after surgery, and we remembered this bakery. Expecting another "no," he stopped in to ask anyway. Without hesitation, they said yes. Not only did they bring our vision to life perfectly, but the cake was absolutely stunning and somehow even more delicious than our original wedding cake. It was everything we hoped for and more. This bakery has earned customers for life. Their willingness to take on unique requests, their talent, and their reasonable prices are hard to find these days. We couldn't recommend them more highly!

Staff are great, orders ready on time and if you pay cash a small discount. The ambiance is pretty blah. Maybe put some money into how the place looks.
