OK let me get this out of the way: I'm a regular here so my opinion is hardly unbiased. My husband and I used to get whatever cheap coffee we could find in five pound bags. Then a friend of ours recommended Redding Roasters, we bought a pound to try out, and we never stopped. It's a bi-monthly event now, we stop in (OK, my husband stops in most of the time. I work a lot and don't usually have opportunities to go myself), pick up two pounds of single-origin beans, and find the will to keep going. Even though my office has free coffee, I bring my own from home. I can't be without it! And the people there are so wonderful! They're all very personable and when I get the time to stop in I love chatting with them. The selection is great, the people are great, supporting a local business is great. On the way back from vacation, I bribed my son with unlimited video games and stopped by Redding Roasters in Bethel. That's about an hour from our home. What awesome people! So friendly and knowledgeable. Big Menu of Single Origins beans. The menu lists tasting notes for each variety, which is very helpful. They have blends too. I bought a bag of Kenyan beans and made a home iced coffee with the #pouroverandchill technique. You could really taste the fresh roast. So good! They don't sell coffee beverages, but they gave me a complimentary cup. Very generous. Also, by the time I left, there was a line for their beans. So you know they're good. I also bought a bag of Guatemalan beans. I haven't tried those yet, but I'm looking forward to it. For both coffees, they asked for my preferred roast level because they had multiple. I asked for the lightest roast of each because that generally allows the natural flavors of coffee to shine. I highly recommend Redding Roasters. Five Stars read more

This place exclusively sells coffee beans and all kinds of amazing, exotic blends. If you don't know what you want don't worry, these super experienced friendly helpful girls are all the help you need. They are so patient and guide you through your bean purchase journey to make sure you go home with the perfect blend. I'm an espresso drinker, of course I ordered an espresso blend. Espresso #2 I'm so in love with you! You can seriously smell the flavor explosion when you inhale those beans. Once you try it at home the flavors just pop right out and the fruitiness comes through. Also, I love how they will always have a coffee on brew for you to sample. Uh-mazing! They have everything you could possibly be looking for. Prices are not the lowest but if you're coming here for prices then please go hit up the coffee section in the supermarket. This is a legitimate roaster with a nice array of varietals. So if you want Ethiopian, Sumatran, or Costa Rican you are likely to find it. I am not going to list specific beans/plantations, as I think they mix things up, so what I have tried may not be available on your visit. Most coffees come in what I would describe as a city or medium roast, not as dark as Peet's or Starbucks. The counterpeople are friendly and knowledgeable - tell them what you are looking for and try their suggestions. The prices are good - remember you are getting a full pound here, not the 12 oz. bags you normally see online and in supermarkets. They usually have a thermos of hot brew for tasting, but this not a place to go and buy a cuppa Joe. There's a limited selection of mugs and t-shirts if you decide to go fanboy or fangirl. If you've traveled to the area from afar as I do, the nearby Caraluzzi's market is a worthwhile stop. read more

The best dang coffee you could ever find, brew, drink! The girls are super knowledgeable and can help you find any type of coffee you like. My recommendation is to get 1/2 pounds of a few different types of coffee every time and enjoy coffee every morning. Redding Roasters is one of my favorite places to go each weekend. It is a family run business that treats their customers like family as well! They roast all their own coffee with beans from exotic places all over the world. When you go in you will be punched in the face with the most amazing coffee smells. They almost always have piping hot free coffee to try yourself and will even show you where all the magic happens if you ask for a little tour. They will also grind your coffee for you which is nice. I prefer a 50-50 blend of Kona & Kenya beans. Kaitlyn is excellent at letting me know when the latest roast is ready for purchase. She won't sell it to you the same day she roasts it. She lets you know when it's ready to be brought home and brewed. And she grinds it fresh in front of you to your specifications - Whether you use an automatic drip coffeemaker or a Melitta, paper filter, cloth filter, etc. Kaitlyn and her husband learned their craft from Kaitlyn's father, who ran Redding Roasters for more than 10 years before they took it over. I wanted to clarify a few things I just read in previous reviews: while I appreciate that this is a family run business, please keep the fact correct. One person said that Bill is the owner. Unfortunately, Bill, the owner and original roaster, passed away a few years ago. It is run by his daughter. Also, they say he ran it for 10 years before she took over...according to an article I just read about RR, he was only in business between 6-8 years before he passed. Local is great. I love that about RR. FAmily run is great. Love that too! Just want to keep the facts correct. Anyway, onto my updated review. I keep seeing RR in the stores and all the great reviews Went back again to check it out. Again, the coffee left me wanting something more. It wasn't bad but it wasn't worth 5 stars. The beans were definitely over roasted, very dark with a lot of shine (oil). So, 2nd pound of beans and I'm underwhelmed. I think maybe this area of CT is full of starbucks and dunkin donuts, so fresh well roasted beans are rare. Compared to SB and DD, they ARE excellent. I guess I just felt like I should be getting more for $14. I have an excellent grinder and use a french press. I will try again (mainly because I would really really like to fall in love with this company so I can have them as my go-to coffee place). Let's hope the third time is the charm! read more

I went in, expecting it to be a small coffee shop but instead it was something much more special. It's a family run business where they buy their coffee beans from small farms and doing the roasting themselves! Maybe I'm easy to please and easily entertained, but I delighted in hearing about all the different kinds of coffee, small coffee growers in exotic countries, how the crops vary every year, etc. The girl, whose name escapes me but I believe other reviewers call her Kaitlyn, is very knowledgeable and helpful. I told her about a type of coffee that The Thanksgiving Coffee Company used to have called Bat Magic and she is the only person who's ever been able to explain why this coffee literally disappeared, and she was gracious enough to suggest something similar. She suggested a GORGEOUS Guatemalan coffee, that unfortunately was no Bat Magic, but is still unbelievably good! I can't wait to go back and try some more. I'd also like to mention that the 1/2 lb. bag that I got from Redding Roasters lasted me at least a week, so that's probably the best route to go if you're a fan of sampling new stuff before settling on a favorite. I'd also like to stress once more that this is NOT a traditional coffee shop, because it was a bit of a shock to my system when I visited. You can't walk in and order up a Mocha Chocalatta Yaya like at Starbucks or Dunkin, but you CAN walk in, look at the list of coffees, try a cup from the complimentary coffee pot, and buy a bag of whatever kind of coffee your heart desires and brew it up whenever and wherever you like, which is pretty nice too! read more

This isn't a coffee house this place sells the coffee they roast by the pound in whole bean or fresh ground for you. Great coffee and great knowledgeable people. Bill was a great guy and I miss him but his daughter and the crew have really been carrying on his high standards. They usually have a few pots so you can try their stuff which is all roasted in house. There is always a variety of types and roasts to suit just about any taste and they often feature some really special stuff if you are looking to splurge.
