The lamp was delivered just a tad later than initially promised, which is expected for furniture. The lamp is perfect in my house. A perfect addition. It is a little expensive but unique enough I don't mind. I'm normally an online shopper, but I love browsing this store for the light, airy atmosphere and variety. The only negative feedback I have is with the sales associate. She helped me order my lamp since they didn't have it in stock. As we wrapped up the purchase, I mentioned I had to get across the street in 10 minutes. She looked up at me and said, oh, do you work there, with judgement in her tone. I was on my way to a nail appointment, so I was wearing my cozy sweats for a self care day. While I would be proud to work there, I found her assumption and judgement rude and snobby. I always thought the store was a little snobby to begin with, and this was the exact reason I had avoided it. I want to start by saying that, we really enjoy the furniture pieces and decor West Elm has to offer. However, their customer has been nothing but frustrating, dismissive, and terrible. I will NEVER shop at any of their stores, and if you get a peice you are not happy with, send it right back when it is delivered. *Long story* We initially ordered in store to ensure all the details and get that personal touch. Everything seemed fine until delivery date a month later. The bathroom pharmacy cabinet we ordered came with no handles/knob hardware for the doors. We were asked if we wanted to return it, or just have customer service send those pieces. We chose poorly to have customer service sends us the hardware. After calling and following up with their customer service branch, which is separate from the store. They mentioned the hardware is from another vendor outside of the country and they would send follow up information. They never did, I had to call them again and finally got a tracking number. When the hardware was delivered, we thought this was finally over. WRONG! They sent bolts, nuts, and washers and no handles/knob. We finally decided to go in store and get this figured out. We spoke with Leroy, who is supposed to be the customer service manager. He mentioned he would get this taken care of and just spoke over us. At this point, it has been 3 months since our delivery and we have not been able to utilize our $1k furniture piece. I receive a message from Leroy that the handles are in, I go pick them up and go home. And, they are the wrong color and there was not screws to attach them. I had communicated what we wanted since the beginning and to multiple people. The frustrating part was that they show the handles in stock on their website. We decided to go back for that last time, to see if they would handle this or we would just order our stuff and never go back. I discussed this with Leroy and he seemed frustrated with me and just said, "yeah, let's just order this for you then." He asked me to show him the pieces online, and then asks for payment. This was the last straw, no effort to make this right after 3 months of the going back and forth and them saying different things to us. I was even told by somebody from their customer service branch that they would see if they could either give me a credit or compensation. To add the cherry on top, somebody from their customer service department called and left a voicemail and sent an email. They apologized and said they would do a full replacement for the defective piece. I replied saying that we just need the handles/know which I had already ordered and that if they send a new piece. We will be right back where we started, a cabinet with no hardware, since apparently it does not come with any and you have to order those at an additional charge. For what they charge, you would think there would be better support and customer service. I came in to take a look at clearance bedding and was disappointed to hear corporate had taken several of the swatches away so I was not able to see a majority of the clearance colors. Staff was attentive to assist and I didn't feel like I wasn't taken seriously like some higher end store can make you feel, but I think they could perhaps use some coaching on return policy education. I tried to ask why two color ways were considered final sale when one was clearly marked clearance and the other sale. Disappointing Quality & Customer Service I've always loved West Elm's style, but after purchasing the Shelter Sofa Sleeper in white alabaster basketweave fabric, I'm extremely disappointed. The quality of the fabric is awful--after 16 months, it's showing significant wear and needs to be replaced. When I reached out to inquire about purchasing a replacement cover (since it's designed to zip off and be replaced), I was told they couldn't sell me one. Instead, they suggested I buy a brand new couch--exactly the same model and fabric--for $3,000 and wait three months for it to be custom made. What really frustrated me was their response: no apology or recognition of the issue, just an emphasis on selling a new piece. They claim their vendor doesn't allow them to sell replacement covers, but it's clear they have the materials to make one, as they are still making and selling this couch. They do not stand behind their products and are not interested in fixing the issue. For the price, I expected much better quality, and after this experience, I won't be returning to West Elm. Last year (2024) I ordered two personalized stockings in the same style and font. When I received the items, the fonts were dramatically different in size. Expensive furniture, takes forever to arrive (over 3 months in our case). You can't actually sit on or see items you want to purchase. We spent over $5,000 on a couch, reclining chair, swivel chair with ottoman and a bed. Well they get you coming and going. Four of the items were put on one order and the ottoman had to be put on a separate order, and you know what that means? Two, yes two delivery charges (one was $279, the other was $159)!! They would not let the ottoman come via UPS, so 2 guys came to delivery. Waste of two delivery guys. Three of the items came, we then tried to cancel the other 2, but once again you guessed it------we couldn't cancel. The bed had a brochure with it that read that it was a sale bed. So at $1700.00 I guess that was the sale price. Now for the last week we have been getting calls, emails and text that the last 2 items would be delivered today......except when the delivery arrived it was just the ottoman. Then we were told we would get a phone call-----except we never got one. And of course they want you to go with a West Elm credit care, with the promise of (over) time payments -or- West Elm rewards. In my time as a consumer, I've ordered four beds from West Elm. I am no longer purchasing anything from this company. In April 2020, I ordered the Haven Bed in a special fabric and the mid century walnut bed. The beds arrived in June, about 5 weeks shy of our move in to our home. We went to assemble them on August 1, and we discovered that the Haven Bed did not come with hardware. I reported this to West Elm immediately, and I have just been told that they are unable to send hardware. They want photos of the bed and will then get back to me as to whether or not they can help. This was a so-so experience. The products are a little too modern for my liking and the quality didn't seem to be as high as I expected. Nonetheless, they had beautiful things. I have complaints and each one is represented by a star. The first is that the employees have condescending presence about them; they make you feel like they are doing you a favor by helping you (when in reality that's their job and why they're there). Had I known I was going to treated like a child, I would have never step foot in there. The second complaint, is that they were selling half a rock with paint on it for almost 40$. Who the hell buys half a rock with paint on it? I feel like I'm at arts&crafts day at an elementary school. Buyer Beware - MAJOR delays and missed dates on orders. Love the store, love the furniture, but the company is struggling to make commitments and I'd be cautious ordering anything. The date you receive will not even be close to the date you receive things. Not even things "in stock and ready to ship". calls to their customer service whom are all nice, will not get you answers and many promises to get calls back that you will never receive when they can't locate your items. Order April 2021, eventually canceled 11/24 because they have zero clue where it is or when I'll get it (found that out after maybe 20 calls and many shipping date moves) Other Order, moved date 6 times - ordered in May newest date february. Super score: standing height desk I've been looking for one of these for a while, but ended up finding a kitchen island here that was just perfect for the job! West Elm is my style of stuff, neutral and clean. I wish I didn't like this store as much as I do, since it is one of those chains... but I do love it. It's also a wonderful place to find gifts, because they have things like kitschy animal ipod speakers that look like they are from Jonathan Adler. And the post-holiday sales are great---their holiday decorations are very classy. Parking is kind of pain over here, but you can pull your car up for loading if you buy something big. Where's my furniture? The promo codes you send daily so I can buy another sofa for $1000 less than I paid is cool but I still don't have any of the items I ordered. They force you to pay over $200 for delivery, you cannot pick it up, and they won't deliver. Longer wait times than the IRS and DMV put together to speak to customer service 30 more minutes, then transferred to furniture, 30 more minutes, transferred to shipping. We are after the estimated delivery date, I can't get a refund, and my items are not delivered. They also won't do price adjustments, there's a sale every other day so don't be a fool and buy a house full of items at full MSRP like I did. It makes a big difference to me when shopping online that I can return the items to a store vs. having to package them up and pay high shipping costs to return. I am torn. I am happy (thrilled!) to have a brick-and-mortar West Elm store in the area. I love their stuff! However.. I've never found the staff to be helpful, at all. Especially not helpful if you don't look the "part" in Edina. I came in with a picture from the website, wanting to see if they had the item, and it took a staff member forever to a) acknowledge me b) help me find it - she had no clue where it was! With such a small store, you'd expect them to know where the merchandise is. My stepmom, who is not at all "edina mom" in appearance (think sweatshirt and jeans for my stepmom) walked into West Elm to buy a very specific lamp for my husband and I and she said that the staff blew her off and she felt like they helped different looking customers first. I've noticed the same thing, though. It's not a place to go shopping if you definition of a 'lazy Sunday' includes putting a baseball cap over your unwashed hair. Parking is so/so in this area. Yes, there is a ramp to park in, but it seems like just a hassle if you only want to pop into West Elm for a few minutes. There is little parking right in front of the store. So - my expectations for West Elm's products is high (I adore the lamp that my parents bought us!) but I have low expectations for the quality of the staff service at the Edina location. This review of West Elm is connected to yesterday's review of Container Store in that I'm happy to finally have one in the Twin Cities, even if I don't plan on shopping here all that often. Let me start out by stating that I find the bricks and mortar store much more appealing than the online one. I enjoyed walking the space and was impressed with how much product they fit into the store with, what I consider, a relatively small footprint. The furnishings, decor, and rugs are a nice blend of style, and there were a few things that I have my eye on for my own home. I especially liked the cable knit throw pillows and blankets and would have purchased them on the spot if it weren't for my heavily shedding baby at home. Minneapolis is small so the farthest trip I have made (besides a farm visit) is to go to West Elm for some major furniture purchasing. Three trips on three consecutive weekends later: no furniture bought. This store seems to carry a very small number of each item (2 to 4). There was a coffee table that sold out quickly, but headquarters seems to be unresponsive about restocking items that are high in demand. Also, there are not enough store associates on the floor, and too many at the cash registers. It would do this store some good to work on staffing and get a better sense of what its local customers will buy. read more

I stopped in the West Elm in Edina a few days ago. I agree that the staff seems a bit arrogant. I asked about a particular item, the salesperson said they have one in the "flea". The Flea is a backroom with discounted items, for some reason the general public doesn't see it? I saw a small table I liked, it didn't have a price on it, it was nicked up, but I liked it. So, I bought it, from the Flea area. I got home and looked it up on the website. I paid full price for the table that was in the Flea and was damaged. What!? I could have gotten a undamaged one for the same price. I brought it back. When I explained to the staff person what happened, she offered me 20% off. Why wasn't it 20% when I bought it. I said no. It's been awhile since I've seen this level of incompetence and indifference in staff. Rude, arrogant, spoiled, entitled, and generally useless. I promise never to shop in this store again. Ordered a custom velvet bed in June 2022. I have only bought items off the floor prior to this. After waiting for the bed several months I read their customer service nightmares getting items way late or not getting a refund. The bed finally arrived in Late October (5 months). I had been sleeping on a mattress on a floor up to that point. The bed arrived and was missing an internal nut to fasten the rail to the headboard. There are three total. The assembly team said they could take it back but i refused for fear of not getting my money back. I didn't want to sleep on the floor either. As a result the one rail is only fastened with two bolts. I can't just go get a nut at hardware store because the end it's supposed to fasten to is inside the upholstery which can't be cut open without ruining the bed. So, I have a 2k brand new bed that I paid full price for that squeakes every time you move on it. Poor craftsmanship and quality control. F+ read more

I almost peed my pantalones when I first heard West Elm was opening up a store in Edina. As much as I love IKEA and Crate&Barrel, West Elm is on the top of my list. West Elm has a certain quality about them which sets them apart from other interior/furniture stores. I loved the place so much that I actually asked for a job application. We stopped into west elm about 3 weeks ago to pickup rug samples, eventually realizing one would fit our space extremely well and the color was perfect! Just to find out all stores were out of stock of the design we wanted. Amy helped us look at other options and went in the back warehouse to see the current stock. She went out of her way to find us the original rug we had fallen in love with, that we thought we'd never get. I'd recommend west elm and especially recommend working with Amy if you're looking to find great products with even better customer service. We will be back :) read more

I had been to a West Elm in the Los Angeles area and had a great experience, so when I was furnishing my condo in Saint Paul, I had planned to get many items from the West Elm in Edina. I guess they just consider themselves a catalog store. You just look at their floor models and then buy online because there was no customer service. Pieces I was hoping to buy and take home, were floor models only. The young man who was waiting on me kept just walking away...it was so weird. I wasn't sure if he was getting more information or just was tired of me! I walked in hoping to buy 2 to 3 items and left with nothing but a sour taste toward the store. To say the salespeople were pushy would be an understatement. The best way I can describe it is the way one would fight for food and weapons during a Zombie apocalypse. The West Elm salespeople were HUN-GRY! That being said, I decided to order our bedroom furniture online instead. Well, that was a mistake. The delivery date has now been pushed out 6 WEEKS from the original. All items were in stock when purchased, so I don't understand the issue. We are giving our current bedroom furniture to my sister who moves into an apartment on February 1st. When we originally ordered, we were told we'd receive our furniture early to mid January (between 1/5-1/16). Call me crazy, but last I checked January 16 is not even kind of close to Feb 28. Maybe we'll just make a pillow fort or something in the meantime. I also don't understand the complete lack of communication about this all of this. The only way I found out about all the changes in delivery dates, was to continue tracking the order or calling Eest Elm (5 phone calls if we're going to get specific). A simple email would've been helpful and a little less of a headache. For dropping a stupid amount of money here, you'd think they'd have their uh... ducks in a row. I wish I could say I was looking forward to the delivery, but after reading other reviews about the quality, I'm wishing we would've just gone with IKEA, Target or even the aforementioned pillow fort. Apparently we'd get the same quality (maybe even better with the pillow fort built with sticks, glue and some used gum), and it'd be much less of a cluster. In any event... Customer service is atrocious, they are constantly understaffed, and they seem to believe that their popularity offsets any need to address awful customer experiences. I was very excited about buying my first "nice" coffee table and purchased a marble top round coffee table from West Elm for more than $300.00. Within 1 year the marble had a hairline crack about 3"long near one side, so I moved it to an unused room thinking I bumped it or something. Within the next few months, random pieces started cracking and falling off the marble top. Nobody was even in this empty room! This table existed in an adult only home with no pets or children. I have no idea what happened that would cause pieces to just crumble off, but West Elm would not return the item, stand behind their product or help replace it. My husband and I walked away from West Elm this past weekend certain that the business practices - i.e. bait-and-switch tactics - of this establishment are not in the best interest of the consumer. We were interested in purchasing a beautiful 8 x 8 Alyson Fox rug that was advertised on the display as being marked down (and it appeared ti be a handwritten markdown) from $499 to $299 - a really great price! And we were very excited that we had found our living room rug! We engages a salesperson, and he informed us that they didn't have the rug in stock, and in fact, never carry the 8 x 8 sized rugs. He kindly offered to check online, and informed us that the rug was available, however, not at the advertised sale price. It was only available at the $499 full price (plus shipping, of course). He provided no other solution to a purchase at the sale price, and we left without the rug. While I believe there could be possible legal repercussions that exist surrounding this type of advertising, I don't pretend to be an expert. And that's really not the point of this review. In reality, an experience such as this can leave a lingering bad taste - one that would discourage us from returning to the store, as well as encourage others to think twice about shopping there. No consumer wants to feel duped. How can we trust that to not happen again? read more

Couple of things about the store and WE overall This store is pretty nicely set up but its like all the other WE stores. They don't have a large selection but its got the basics. Their Furniture Flea used to have some nice stuff, but its gotten smaller and smaller. Quality is about somewhere between Target and CB2 - nice to look at, but may not hold up as well as you hope for the price you are paying. I recommend the tables, chairs, lamps, bedding (really nice actually)- decorative things - and skip anything that gets a lot of wear and tear (beds, couches...etc, tend to collapse.) The people in this store are actually really nice....when and if you can get a hold of anyone to help you. They seem very low on people, esp during the weekends. I have had to stand, waiting for 15+ minutes just for someone to tell me the price of a certain item because they somehow got sidetracked into checking people out at the register because there was a HUGE line, without any other assistant to help. Due to some of those issues, they seem to run low on stock without anyone knowing. I have asked about a few things furniture or large items and they never seem to have any in the back. Also, if you buy, make sure you open boxes because twice now, they gave me the wrong item in the box. The problem I really have with West Elm is the delivery service in Minneapolis. I have had a few things delivered, but furniture delivery is a crapshoot. Most of the time it gets there, but often it get delayed for no good reason. AND Ive had the driver of one delivery, because he missed me the first time, basically ask for a bribe for him to return to deliver it. Given that delivery is not free, not acceptable. So...yea, nice to look at but overall quality and service is very very lacking. read more
