They are pretty good but only take appointments if you're on their "wait list". Well, that's a joke! They have openings for their waist list at 7 am and 1 pm. I was on at EXACTLY 7 am literally waiting at 659 am and by the the time I finished typing the information in, the list was FULL! This happens everytime we need to get our dog in! Brought my dog in with a broken tail back in January and Shaker (i REFUSE to call him doctor) picked him up by his tail and his leash. Morey screamed out in pain and i got a lecture. My family has been taking our cats here for over a decade. We love the care, however, getting into the vet is very frustrating. They don't book appointments. Instead, you have to get on a waitlist for the day. This list fills up VERY quickly. Because of this, it is very difficult to get my pets into the vet and it's frustrating. DR. SHAKER KILLED MY CAT! My mother has already left a review but I feel I need to write one as well in hopes I can persuade even one person to not let their beloved pet be seen by Dr. Shaker. To make a very long story short, my rescue cat had a reoccurring rectal prolapse. We were seeing Dr. Miller, who is an amazing doctor and I would 100% recommend, but when we took her this past Monday, we were forced to see Dr. Shaker due to Dr. Miller not being there. He immediately said the prolapse needed to be cut off. After the surgery she seemed fine, but that next morning when she tried to poop, she started screaming, the stitches in her rectum ripped and what seemed to be her intestine came out of her. I was very thankful to not be in the room to see it, but my father's screams of horror will haunt me for the rest of my life. We had to rush her to an emergency vet where the veterinarian there said in all his 30 years of being a vet, he had never seen something so horrific, and the most humane thing to do would be put her to sleep. He explained that this happened from too much of her rectum being cut out during surgery, and there wasn't enough tissue left to properly reconnect her anus and colon. This was not a complication that just sometimes happens with that kind of surgery, it was a MAJOR error that Dr. Shaker committed. HE killed her! Please, I beg of you, don't let him touch your pet!! I have been coming here for many years, probably 15+. The staff and doctors have always been wonderful, knowledgeable and spend time to make sure my pets are taken care of, even in their final moments. They've also been incredibly supportive, you can tell they care. The prices are incredibly reasonable compared to other vets in other places I've lived. read more

We live an hour away , but anything serious to happen to my dog , these doctors will be the only once's to handle the matter . They are really honest practice will tell you exactly what needs to happen, will never overcharge you , their diagnoses are always correct . They saved my dogs life several times , because she's an adventurous type . They started a new way, no appointments. You sign in on line. At 8am when I signed in, I was #19. You have to keep checking to see when the # changed. Then at 11:40, I get a text that I have 20 minutes to get there; I was #3 at that time. I won't come back, wasted my entire morning looking at a number to change! read more

My dog had 8 puppies, 6 of them died, & they sell for about $2,500. You do the math. This happened before Covid. I have been waiting to post a review because each one of the puppies that died did so in my hands. I didn't want to seem bias or disrespectful so I waited until now. I specifically asked the Vet if he was confident in his ability to deliver the puppies very early on in the process. His confidence cost me a lot of money & much more pain as my family watched the puppies die along with me. I had been taking my dogs here since the early 1990's but never will again. I am writing this so other people don't make the same mistake I did. Yes I did take the puppies to two other vets as they were dying. Both wanted to know who delivered the puppies. So glad that we took our dog Bo here. He is having a pretty intense infection and fever and the staff was so helpful and responded to treating him immediately once we were seen. Vet was incredibly responsive, kind, and informative. Testing was fast and efficient. After being treated, Bo's fever dropped substantially within 40-50 minutes thank god. Will be coming back to make sure our dude has all of his shots up to date as well. Huge thank you to all of the super sweet staff and vets you guys rock!! read more

worst vet I've ever gone to. I had five cats at one time and I had two whose early deaths were directly related to the poor care given at this vet clinic. Overall they are a pretty good animal clinic to bring your animals too. I've come during the week and had pretty prompt service to take care of all our animals. The loss of a star was for the crazy wait they have on Saturdays for how many people are in line when they open till the close. If they actually updated their system and move away from all paper files checking in and out could move so much faster. They are a bit out of date with paperwork and speed and if your in a hurry don't plan to make it out fast. But if you do have the time they do have good service once you get going read more

Been going here for 20 years, during COVID, they ended up with a lot of new clients, which is great, but they have pushed out the old clients while doing so. I can't ever get my dogs in and they never answer the phone. They meet capacity an hour and half before they close but you don't know that until you get there. The recording is the same throughout the day, so that's no help, it always says they are at capacity. So unfortunately, I am now looking for a new vet. read more

I will never go back. Had to take my beloved Ozzie in to be euthanized. They went over the cremation options with my husband and I and we told them we wanted the private one. We were told the price and I signed the slip. I waited 2 weeks and still not cremains, so I called. They told me I said I didn't want him. I am devastated. DO NOT USE THIS VET'S OFFICE, THEY DO NOT WANT NEW CLIENTS!!!! I have been going to this vet for years and have referred many pet owners to them. I have always appreciated the care and friendliness they have given to me and my pets. This past year has been so very disappointing!!!!! They have lost their compassion, respect and care for their clients both the pets and the owners. You now wait in your hot car with your pet. My last two visits both were a two and a half hour wait. When I tried mentioning this to the doctor to let them know their on line service was not working properly as it told me I had a 15 minute wait so I hurried into the vets only to wait and wait. The last hour I was told the entire hour I had a one minute wait. When trying to let the vet know the problem he snapped and said "we just need to raise our prices so that we can lose some customers, we just have to many" keep in mind I have been coming to this vets office for years with multiple pets and have referred so many people to them. I was floored by the vets response to a good customer, his response should have been something like, I'm so sorry you have waited so long, we truly value you and your pets, lets get fido taken care of. This is actually the second time I have heard the doctors (Dr Shaker and Dr Bais) negative response to my long wait time which has been at least a two hour wait all year. This is not how you treat your customer that has helped established your business over the years. The quality of care has gone way down hill with their rush to get pets through. My pet was first misdiagnosed, then when taken back, was overmedicated. They have lost me as a long time, devoted customer, but that is no concern to them as they want to lose customers. I am the world's fussiest veterinary client. I don't look for the cheapest vet, the most conveniently located vet, or the one with the warmest bedside manner. I look for one who practices excellent veterinary medicine, as well as one who has a good enough bedside manner to examine my pet without unnecessary stress and to communicate clearly and effectively with me. Over my decades of pet ownership, I think my vets have learned that if they can deliver that, I'm going to be one of their most loyal, compliant, and ready-to-spend clients. I want what's best for my pets, period. Vets who have not been able to give me that often think I'm excessivly demanding or a, I have to admit it, a bitch. I always try to be professional, but when my pets are at stake, I can get pretty protective. I moved to Michigan 13 months ago, and have been through a number of vets looking for "the one." I resisted going up to West Flint for a while, despite a glowing recommendation from a client of theirs, because of a prejudice I had: I was afraid that being located in a town with economic woes the magnitude of Flint's, they wouldn't be practicing medicine at a high standard. I finally went, and am so glad I did. I've been seeing Dr. Shaker for several months now. He does appear to keep up well on veterinary developments, is able to offer a wide range of options at all price points, communicates as well as any vet I've ever had (and I've had some great ones), really listens to me but is able to articulate his own viewpoint even if it's different from mine, and once told me he didn't know the answer to a question I had, but would find out -- one of my litmus tests for a great healthcare provider, to know what you don't know and not have ego problems about admitting it, and also knowing how to find the answers. Additionally, they return my calls promptly if I have a question, and are very accepting of my frequent desire to get referred to a specialist or get a second opinion. The hospital, including waiting areas and landscaping, is very clean and in great condition. Negatives: Located on a VERY busy road, which makes me nervous getting the dogs in and out of the car. And when the waiting room is crowded, it's quite stressful for a sensitive dog. I have also not used them for anything high-tech, so don't know what their anesthesia protocols are, what equipment they have, etc. I can't assess things I haven't experienced yet. I was also taken aback at first by their "walk-ins only" system -- no scheduled appointments (although I believe they schedule surgery). However, no matter when I've gone, I've never had to wait any longer than I often have to wait at practices where I DO have an appointment. All in all, Dr. Shaker and West Flint are a great fit for me and my pets, who by the way are Greyhounds, Deerhounds, and a Borzoi -- not the easiest of breeds to treat, as they have some medical anomalies that some veterinarians deny exist or are not comfortable with. Dr. Shaker has other sighthound patients, and seemed both informed and ready and willing to investigate their idiosyncrasies of lab work, etc. As to cost, they're extremely reasonable. For me, coming from California, all the vets I've seen here seem relatively inexpensive, but West Flint is a great choice for someone who has a need to keep a tight grip on cost, but still wants excellent care for their pet. read more

This place is awful. The first time I took my dog, he was bleeding, and the lazy doctor told me to keep him in my car, so he wouldn't get blood in the office. He never examined the dog, he wrote a script for antibiotics and vanished. So the next time I use this clown, I needed my dogs bandage changed. I called ahead, and the lady says I don't need an appointment for that. So we are waiting for a full hour, then I'm told he can't see me today, he's too busy, and my dog is not an emergency. This idiot is unprofessional. Go to another vet, this guy is lousy. Your dog deserves better. read more

I have taken my pets to WFAH for more than 40 years. Some reviews mention clients are hesitant about the "no appointments" protocol. I switched one time to a closer vet, now that I have moved, and when my dog got kennel cough, they said they could see her in 10 days. Nope! I went right back to West Flint Animal Hospital. When my husky developed bleeding from the nose one late night, the vets helped me organize a fast trip to MSU, met me at WFAH in the parking lot, handed me the dog's records and off we went within minutes to Michigan State. Dr. Baase is careful of charges, especially if the appointments are repetitious for the same ailment within a short time. Dr. Shaker is pleasant and efficient, too. During the pandemic, they are one of the few vets which stayed open in that area. We wait in cars, sometimes for a long time, but we DO get help! I love this place. read more

Each time that I have gone in to this vet for care, the vet techs have been great, one in particular, a young man with tattoos is incredibly good with any kind of dog. The vets don't tend to pressure you to get any treatments that are not totally necessary, which I appreciate. With that in mind, I would love to give this four stars, but the customer service at the front desk is just so terrible that I can't give this any higher rating than two. The older woman, I believe her name is Sandra, needs to be replaced. If at all possible avoid her and you should have a great experience. Add their slow, outdated filing techniques (Which have to have killed an entire forest worth of trees in paper) to this and you have a recipe for a sub-par waiting room experience. I didn't even know that there were vets out there that still exclusively used paper files for everything. It is not uncommon for a customer to have to wait ten or fifteen minutes just for the opportunity to pay their bill after they have already seen the vet. Personally, I have once had to wait almost a half hour just to purchase flea and tick medication. They'll do in a pinch, but if you have the ability to, you and your pet will have a better experience elsewhere. read more

I have been going here for about 20 years. I have a polydactyl cat that needs her nails trimmed. I made the online appt, service was nail trim, and I noted that my cat has "23" toes. Dr. Shaker came in, started trimming, small talk, then he told me that technically he didn't have to see my cat bc she hasn't had a wellness check and also bc she doesn't have a current rabies shot, which is required by MI law. So I got her the rabies shot. Come to find out my cat doesnt need a rabies shot unless traveling across state lines. While he was getting the rabies shot I noticed he forgot a nail so he cut it. I got home later and realized he didnt cut yet another nail. Looks like a corkscrew. They say just bring her back, no problem. The problem is I dont drive. I buried my 20 year old son in 2020. I depend on other people for rides. He was so busy bullying me about a rabies shot for my cat that I rlly cldnt afford that he cldnt cut all of my cats nails. read more

I generally adopt older animals from the Humane Society. Tessa was a ten+-year old German Shepherd with mange. After visiting three different vet offices, I found West Flint and Doc Shaker! His knowledge, attention to details with her symptoms and compassion allowed Tessa to live pain free! I loved the no appt. necessary format, because I never knew when she would need attention. Yes, the wait can be long, but that is because of the care each animal receives when they are being seen by the staff. My Tessa has crossed the rainbow bridge, and as I prepare to adopt another older animal from the Humane Society, I trust West Flint to take care of their needs with the same quality that Tessa received. read more

They have always treated our animals with love and compassion. when we had to put our baby down they did everything possible to make a horrible situation easier. West Flint Animal Hospital I absolutely love West Flint Animal Hospital! My husband and I lived in the Flint area for 6 years, and this was hands down our veterinarian of choice for my two doxies. My doxies have been going to WFAH since they were 8 weeks old, and they are now two middle-aged ladies! My dogs have had an array of services provided by WFAH including yearly immunizations, dental cleanings and exams, blood panels, ongoing care for pancreatitis for one of my girls, and some other random needs that occurred over the course of the years. Anytime I have brought the girls in for something, their needs were identified and addressed in an exceptional manner at an extremely fair price. You can get in for an appointment pretty much any time they are open (there is usually a wait but it's worth it!), and they even offer after hours support from one of the doctors on staff in the event of an after hours emergency. Full disclaimer: I am a bit of a worrier when anything happens with my babies, and all of the staff members have always made me (and the girls) feel listened to and cared for regardless of the cause or concern I brought them in for. All of the doctors are extremely thorough, knowledgeable, and will answer any and every question you could possibly have about your pet's needs. None of the doctors have ever, EVER pushed me towards any unnecessary procedures or tests that I didn't feel comfortable with. The doctors and staff are all so warm and kind, they have always done a great job making sure that the girls felt comfortable when they came in to visit. All of the techs and doctors came to remember and know the girls very well, and the girls especially loved Dr. Limbaugh and Mr. Brian the vet tech! That level of care and compassion is not something you can find at every veterinary office. They have consistently gone above and beyond the level of service I expected EACH VISIT! I have taken Bella to this vet since 2018. Dr. Baes was always good to her. However after the Covid situation She had a growth on her canine tooth. He removed it and the tooth. Told me that she should live for a few more years and said the specimen from her growth was too burned up to send in for a biopsy. It grew back in a month I had it removed again and he cut out a HUGE portion of her front gum and sent her home with pain meds and anti biotics. She was in so much pain it was unfathomable. I looked into quality of care for this procedure. 4 days at the Vet after the surgery. He charged me over 1000 dollars for both procedures. He refused to see her when I called at 3:30pm on Friday. I got a referral from him to Blue Pearl hospital which he sent a letter informing me he would charge 25 dollars for the referral. When a doctor gives an animal a surgery, you would think he would care enough to find out why she is howling like crazy 5 days post surgery. He didn't read more

I can also say they are very compassionate when dealing with a loved one that's passing. This place a nightmare. Yesterday my cat dead, because of them. I come to this place several for the same symptom,. Without any benefit, my cat suffer. Til last Sunday she was restless and moving. She was in sever pain. Took here to another doctor, to discover that she had big bladder stone. Which prevents the urine out. Other doctor put here down . Up until today I would've referred all my friends in the area because we always had wonderful treatment by the female vet [Dr. Lindbaugh]; she's very caring, considerate and honest... today however, shows the true colors of the office and we will not ever take either of our dogs back. Today, my husband took our 3 year old dog who has been sick all weekend with "the runs" in to have her treated, accompanied by our 2 year old daughter. They were told by the vet working [Dr. Baes] they had to wait outside due to her being sick; my husband did as directed [although we've never heard of a vet doing this before, nor have our friends or family]; other Vet offices he called told him they do not treat their sick animals that way and everyone waits inside. It took well over 45 minutes for them to come out and get my husband, daughter and dog; once in the room, after my husband had voiced his opinion regarding their policy and suggesting how they could better accommodate sick animals, was told to leave and that our dog would not be treated. When I called to follow up, I had to call several times before I could get through, then was lied to by the Dr. about the chain of series of events that led our sick dog to being sent home without treatment. He also failed to let me speak more than a few words and continued on to lie to me about my dog being refused treatment and how he would be happy to treat her without making them wait if we brought her back up. He then followed that up with take her to another Vet, "I don't care!" After all that was said and done, he then verbally attacked my husband calling him "a little man" over and over to me. read more

I have been bringing my dogs to doctor Baes for close to 20 years and have never been disappointed. He treats my dogs as if they are family members and not just a dog.
