My family and I just visited Magers River Camp the last week of July and we had a wonderful time…read more Magers has campsites, shelters, rental cabins, and rental trailers available at decent rates. We stayed in Rental Trailer #1. It had air conditioning, potty, shower, mini fridge and freezer, a three-burner gas stove and oven, full-sized bed, and four bunk beds. All camp spots have a picnic table, fire pit, water, and electricity. The bathrooms were only about one hundred feet away and kept very clean. I'm not sure what the root cause was, but the breaker to our trailer tripped about five times the first evening. We immediately told the owner. The breaker was replaced and we were able to spend the rest of the week with fridge, stove, and ac all going. What I appreciated the most was the effort that was put in to quickly resolving the issue. While we were waiting for the breaker to get fixed, I had to put all of our food back in the three coolers. We were given ten bags of ice and a load of firewood without asking for the trouble. The trailer was perfect for our large family. We had the beds full and the teenagers pitched a tent under the trees. Even though the trailer had a bathroom, most of us walked the short distance to the bathrooms. I went in several times during the day and the bathrooms were fully stocked with three roles of toilet paper each, multiple liquid hand soaps, and super clean. The women's restroom had two showers with doors that locked. My husband says that the men's restroom was clean and "smelled nice." The location of Magers is perfect. If you have stayed at Garner (we always did for the last several years), Magers is on the other side of the damn. The teenagers crossed the river on foot, danced at Garner, and then we picked them up in the car at eleven. Even though we have always stayed at Garner, from now on we will stay at Magers. Magers has fifty or more campsites, but was less than a third full. It is quieter at night, less traffic (we let all of the little kids ride their bikes and roam unsupervised without fear they would be run over), and as we have a hard time juggling three household schedules, we were still able to book a trailer less than a month in advance. It took three minutes to check in and three to check out. The only issue we had was getting someone on the phone. We gave up after the fifth try and started emailing instead. Our emails were immediately replied to. They are not able to take credit or debit cards, only check and cash. We sent a check for the deposit and the lady emailed us the day it was received and then again when she deposited the check. Onsite they have a volleyball net, horseshoes, and ice for cheap. The area is completely surrounded by trees. The kids went into the wooded area to hunt for marshmallow sticks several times and this was not a problem. At Garner, you cannot get kindling or marshmallow sticks from the woods. Overall, we were greatly pleased. It was lovely, only issue was that a massive family with tons of kids and 4 loose dogs were right next to our tent site. I'm not sure if we'd stay again, unless they actually start enforcing noise regulations. They partied allllll night and it ruined our experience completely. Oh and be careful of the wild hogs. But otherwise it's a beautiful campground and the staff were very nice with booking.

Do not bring extra vehicles if you can help it (thank me later). But if you look around and get a date booked for the following year on a site you observed and liked, you'll have a better time. We spend two weeks there in June and another in July, but we've also been going since the summer it opened. They're like part of our extended family and we've met so many amazing families out there that have taken us in as a part of their own. It's right across from rock beach of Garner State Park. So you get to mingle with all sorts of people while out on the water and it's a quick drive at night to get kids to the dance or go hiking during the day. You should know this is a family park. They do not want party crowds. They don't really want visitors to your site and if you do bring someone in, you have to check them in and pay a day or night pass. This is really just a way to keep everyone's belongings safer. There is LOTS of theft on the Frio, cooler raids...lots of yeti stuff stollen from all the different parks. So they're trying to protect us. There is quiet time just like all the other RV parks also have. No music that can reach outside of your camping area. And if your crowd is noisy, you may not be allowed back. Insurance doesn't allow rope swings from their banks, so no need to even try it, it'll be cut down within the hour. You can also rent camp here if you prefer. There is a maximum amount of people allowed at each site tho. There are clean restrooms, washers and dryers are available at first come first serve. They have tubes for rent, an compressor and will even shuttle you if you ask nicely and they aren't too busy. They have a gator to take people down the hill with their belongings if you ask for help and will even return to get you if you aren't capable of getting back by yourself, which is great for those with mobility issues. So come out and chill, but remember people are tying to get away from crazy bar life and enjoy the country with their families. Be respectful of each other and don't cut through other people's camp sites...everyone is capable of walking on the road. Don't set your seats up in the entrance/exits to the river because you're not the only ones who exist. Don't be the jack ass that blasts music to try and outdo the other jack ass down the river blasting his music. And clean up after your dogs. Nobody wants poo on their shoe.

They were Super Friendly and gave us golf cart rides down to the river all the way to the spot we selected. We were allowed to post my U.S. NAVY flag up and they even made sure our guests for the day were treated like VIP's too! We went ahead and reserved our same spot for next year! This RV park is the BEST!!

The pictures online are a misrepresentation of what you're going to get, so don't be fooled. I think they took a picture of their best looking unit (I saw one with a cute Western vibe) and use it to trick everyone into booking there. When there's only 1 photo, I guess that should raise a red flag. Honestly, what they're doing seems illegal to me. We were visiting Lost Maples and got a Studio room for 1 night. I'm pretty sure we stayed in room 125 and it was the only room available, despite it being the off-season (we did try to switch rooms after seeing it). The theme of the room we got must have been Wal-Mart 1982. Now, if you don't care about the pillows being pancakes on a rickety bed, the shower only being suitable for an 8-year-old, using Dollar Tree towels, linens, and a miniature toilet, plus people being able to see you undressing and doing whatever else through the busted mini blinds (no curtains here), then this place might meet your expectations. All for the low, low price of $90/night. At that price, I would expect something at least on par with Motel 6. Unfortunately, our expectations were set too high on this one. It's a shame too because the grounds are pretty decent. There's a small clubhouse area overlooking the lake, but there was already a family in there, so we didn't use that space. It was fall, so we tried to enjoy our evening drinking wine out by a fire pit. There are several of them and plenty of wood, so you can light your own and enjoy a night by the water. Bring your own lighter or matches....and corkscrew....wine glasses....hell, just stay home. In the summer, it looks like you can enjoy swimming, canoeing, and kayaking too. With a decent room owned by someone who actually cares about providing suitable accommodations for guests, you could probably be comfortable here. I'm not sure how you'd vet the room though...good luck! We're not playing Russian Roulette with our sleeping rooms anymore though, so we won't be back. Funny thing...there were some comment cards left in the nightstand, presumably from previous guests, boasting about how great the place was and how they loved their stay. What??? My brain is still hurting trying to figure that out. Where did those people stay? It wasn't here. I should have taken some pictures, but I forgot.

It is there signature place as it contains all kinds of amenities. It is a 4 bedroom 3 bath place along with exceptional views of the country side from out back. If you are looking for a family vacation away from actual reality this is the place. It has a pool table and a jukebox, a fire pit and jacuzzi, a grilling area overlooking the swimming pool and a gazebo next to the pool. There is also a playground for the young one and a horse pit next to it. There is also a deer corn feeder out back which you might get lucky enough to see deer through out the day. All in all this place is the place to get....

Upon arrival, I was greeted with a hand written note and fresh herb-infused water in the refrigerator made with herbs grown in the garden outside (they also have fruit trees but they were not in bloom when I went in the fall) I could tell that the owners went out of their way to make sure that the place was inviting and enjoyable. Included in the tiny home were cooking essentials such as pots/pans/utensils/plates, roasting sticks, a tiny library of books, a few board games, and tons of blankets to keep warm. Leah was super responsive when we texted her, and provided us with lots of information about the park that we were trying to go to. One note that I do have is that they are currently undergoing construction on the site, so there were some loud construction noises throughout the day. There were earplugs provided and this was not a huge inconvenience as we were out for most of the day. My electronics also took a super long time to charge using the outlets in the cabin, but the wifi appeared to work fine.
