Poor all the way around! Takes on so many patients that she can't care for everyone the way she should and doesn't even let you know or discuss with you that she won't give you enough of your medication anymore. The DEA sets a quota on how many controlled drugs doctors can prescribe. So, instead of being greedy and seeing way too many patients, she makes her patients suffer by dropping the amount of drugs she prescribes the patients. She also does not care if you hurt - OBVIOUSLY or she would find a way to honor the OATH she took as a doctor to do no harm. She will let you go through the withdraw I guess and not monitor you because dropping medication so drastically affects those of us with an actual medical condition that is permanent, be it pain and or ADHD. She could always have another doctor with an MD and their own DEA # to help her treat her patients properly but she won't do that. It would be too much professionalism! Which is it, HIPPOCRATIC OATH or is it Hypocrite Oath? I've seen Dr Thampoe for almost 2 years and I am stunned at how she's treated my husband for 3 years and just 2 weeks ago she dropped his meds significantly with. My appointment is this Thursday, what will she do with my knee pain medication? I'm scared and this is wrong!! I'm a 59 year old... not a child. I have been looking for a new PCP outside of the forced network I have been in for years. I know there are other people out there... In the medical profession... Who struggle with having to see doctors they work with for medical care. I have decided to go outside the box as an RN for 30 years and choose a physician outside of the normal network. For me, it's a comfort and privacy issue. I don't want other physicians, or fellow coworkers privy to my personal medical care. I know for a fact that many nurses avoid getting care for this exact reason. Not only was the office staff very friendly and efficient, but I was contacted by my new pharmacy (again outside the "forced" network) within an hour of leaving the office with everything handled. As many issues as people have been having with insurance companies and being forced within certain networks... This was a breath of fresh air!! They also made sure to refer me to testing at a provider that would have less out-of-pocket cost than others. Again, very important. They can also perform their own lab draws. I no longer want to be controlled by my insurance or some network within a hospital system. Even if I have to pay more for something here and there, I am more willing to do that and have Freedom. So if you're shopping for a new primary care provider, you might wanna consider this office. As a sidenote, they have a spa attached to their office with many additional services if you wish to pamper yourself. There is no pressure either way. My wife had an appointment for 2:30pm for cold & runny nose. The office requested she come earlier because the doctor wanted to leave early. My wife rearranged her work to accommodate the request. Arrived at the doctor's office around 12pm, the nurse showed up one hour later to take vitals. Connected a nebulizer and left her waiting there for another hour. When she asked when is the Dr. Karen coming, the nurse told here she doesn't know where the Dr. Karen was. Apparently doctor had left for lunch (or something) leaving my PREGNANT wife waiting without any treatment. Meanwhile they collected 3 tubes of blood for "lab" work. The doctor finally arrived at 2pm after waiting for over 2hrs. Takes one look at tonsils and leaves literally within a minute. This is one of the worst experience we have had with a Doctor. I would strongly recommend staying miles away from highly unprofessional clinic. We need stronger regulation to make sure paying patients get proper treatment and such clinic don't continue to operate in a high unprofessional manner. read more

This is my first time coming here. The staff is very friendly but they seem a bit scatterbrained. They seem to be all over the place. I understand that first visits can take some time but not hours! My appointment was scheduled for 10:30 am and I still have not been seen by the doctor and it's after 12:35 pm! They have been running test after test and are not really sure what all these tests are for. I have never had them done at any other doctor. I unfortunately had to change my PCPs as my insurance changed at my job. For the record and for happy patients, they should inform you If a visit is going to take hours this should be relayed to the patient! Some people don't have all day to spend their only day off in a doctor's office. Upset as this should not take this long for a routine visit. I wouldn't go to this office at all cost. Very bad experiences as a patient and ex-employee. I had stayed with her for 5 years because I have loyalty and I believed she was my friend and I cared for and love all the patients and the people I worked with. My husband had left a review based on his own experience, initially he left her 5 stars review as a favor to me...when he changed his review to 1 star it's because of his recent experience and he only stated accurate accounts like so many of the disatisfied patients at her office. Karen instructed all of us to convince patients to leave only good reviews. All Karen cares about is herself, most patients complaining about her not listening to them and time waiting, which she started telling it is my fault why the patients are waiting for 2 hours. In her eyes, she's never wrong... He wasn't being untruthful, he was stating the facts. I had to bring my son to be a guinea pig, so you can train the new Medical assistant to perform sleep study and EEG to patients with no proper training, new personnel has to learn them almost on their own. By the way I was never being verbally abused like that by my husband...I have been happily married to him for 26 years, I told you I gained 35 something pounds since I started working at your office. Multiple tests and never given the results. Crazy tests like put your feet on metal panels to see if your nerves, never heard of this kind of test. For physical, metal things on your head, and never ever given results. It was all weird stuff to bill my insurance. Never even given results for my blood work. I received medicine at my house that i knew nothing about. I couldn't get needed medication unless i went back for the ridiculous feet on metal weird test. Please go anywhere else! Not only are the wait times ridiculous, Dr. Thampoe was in and out of the exam room, yet still billed for a comprehensive examination. My insurance was billed for 2 office visits for the same day, totaling nearly $1000! When this matter was brought to the attention of the office manager, Tina, I was met with nothing but silence. They delay responding to any grievance, so you either grow tired of the matter or lose your right to file a grievance. Thankfully the Medical Review Board, Texas Department of Insurance and Texas Department of Health and Human Services have no such limitations. I recommended anyone with a grievance file it with the appropriate agencies. This atrocious level of care should be stopped from being inflicted upon individuals simply seeking to cure their ailments. read more

This place is absolutely horrible. My mother suffers from AFIB and irregular heart beat. I personally started going to my Moms Drs. Appointment myself as she's always tired, accessive coughing and tired a lot. This Dr' physically doesn't listen at all. I had to call her back in The office several times and make her listen. My Mom is complaining of dizziness, short winded, feels like fluid is building up in her legs, and I explained to her that the veins on the side of her neck are compulsively beating which to me signifies there is a lack of blood flow. She ordered an ultrasound of the neck. With those symptoms, should've instructed her to do to the ER as an ultrasound was not fixing all the current problems etc. We explained that my Mom gained 8lbs in 3 days. ( Fluid retention) We went home and my Mom kept having worse shortness breath so we went to the ER. Diagnosis came back Congestive Heart Failure with fluid in the lungs and pneumonia. We spent 8 day in the hospital trying to get my Moms heart back on regular arrhythmia. Even after the hospitalization we went back to this Dr. actually because it was advised by Home Health just to get her to sign off on Home Health services etc and she still wasn't able to listen effectively. Never listen to her lungs even when we told her that she has been very nauseous for two weeks. She just offered nausea medicine. I beg you if you care about your loved ones, do not go to this Dr. if your patient is elderly, please go to the Drs appt with them cause this Dr is only gonna spend 3-5 minutes in he room and does not listen. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. When I reviewed her medicine, she wasn't even on any fluid medication OMG!!! We've been going to this Dr. 6-7 months. Dr. Never gave a referral to a cardiologist. Dr. Thampoe is the worst doctor I have ever been to. First visit I waited 90 minutes. Saw her for maybe 3-4 minutes tops. She ordered blood work. Once the blood work came back I was told I had to come in for review (another $50 Co-pay). Needed mammogram so they ordered one. I had to go back and forth because I needed more testing. Each time The doctor insisted on seeing me (more Co-pays) just to tell me the results. When the pathology report came back once again I had to go into the office and pay another co-pay to get my results. Report showed I had breast cancer but she could offer no referral or information. Dr Thampoe is knowledgeable and helpful in understanding paintent's needs, and Ernesto has been able to determine specific issues and recommended therapy. They follow strict guidelines with testing during Covid and send back test results. They provide detailed blood panel analysis and recommend ways to supplement through diet and vitamins as needed. Some reviewers complain about having to wait, though it depends on when you go, as some days are busier than others. After all, who actually likes having to go to a doctor anyway? Simply ask when is the best time to schedule an appointment and do not expect immediate attention as a walk in on a busy day. Terrible office. She doesn't listen. She makes incorrect assessments. She prescribes the wrong medications, and her time management is atrocious. The office feels more like a Veterinary clinic. One of her prescriptions now has my mother living with low kidney function. The follow up medication put my mother in the hospital. In the hospital, my mothers treating physician even asked what Dr. prescribed the medication. That treating Dr. was Dr. Basti Tamphoe (who is great by the way), and happens to be her husband. Although he was taken aback a bit when I told him it was his own wife who'd made the bad prescription decision. The average visit time is 2 hours. This wouldn't be so bad if the quality was there, but it's not. You will have a long wait for her to run in, ask a couple of questions hurriedly, not really listen to your answers, make a snap judgement, scribblesomething on her prescription pad, and run out again. read more

I scheduled an appointment with Dr Karen Thampoe at West Houston Internal Medicine on Kingsland Drive in Katy. My appointment was for 8:45am. I arrived before 8:30 and waited outside for the office to open. Finally, I called the office number and asked if they were going to open as I had an appointment in 5 minutes. I had to fill out all the new patient paperwork and they finally put me in a room. They asked my weight and height even though a scale was in the examining room. They did take my temperature and blood pressure but never told me what the results were. I continued to wait in the examining room for 30 minutes longer and walked back up to the front and asked how much longer it would be before I would see the doctor as I needed to get to work. They said it would be soon. Finally at 10:00am, I asked again and was told the doctor wasn't there yet. I said, "but my appointment was at 8:45" to which they answered but the office doesn't open til 8:30. I said but it is more than an hour past my appointment time and now I find out the doctor isn't even there. Their response made it clear this is just a normal workday. Finally at 10:30am I left and told them to not bill my insurance since I never saw the doctor and they had the gall to try and schedule another appointment. I said there would not be a next time with this doctor and asked that they remove all my information from their system. This place is a joke. There was no option for no star so it is a 1 star only for that reason. When I left the office, the waiting room was completely full of people that I guess have nothing better to do than sit and wait for a doctor. My appointment was at 12pm so I got there at 11:50 to fill out all paper work. By 12:06 I was done with the large packet of new patient paperwork. At 12:40 they had me in one of the rooms. I had to go back to work so I was hoping the appointment would go from 12 -1 well it definitely did! By 12:50 I was done with the questions they had to ask me I was very pleased with the quickness of everything. The receptionist was very nice and helpful. However, she had my insurance info since the day before the exam she told me she would confirm that I was covered that evening so I could call the day of the appointment and verify I was covered with them. Well the day of the appointment I called at 10 am like I was instructed and she unfortunately had not called yet. So while she called and verified I was put on hold for about 25 min. If I could give this place no stars I would. Went on April 25th 2022 due to some chest issues and part of my skull is not how it should be. Before anything happened I had to take 2 COVID tests, ok, no biggie, I've got chest pains. Rapid test came back Neg. After waiting 30mins for the Dr. she finally came in and went over all the issues I've been wanting to get checked out. She handed me a questionnaire, which was an ADD/ADHD test. She said I had it and was going to prescribe meds. She told me that it would make me lose weight, I told her I don't need to lose anymore weight because over the past 2 years I've dropped from 225lbs to 160lbs. She said I can prescribe something to make you gain weight as well. I told her no I want to gain muscle mass not fat. She tells me that she's gonna send me for X-rays for my chest and an MRI for my head. Okay cool. Get scheduled for a follow-up on May 25th 2022. The X-ray and MRI were scheduled on different days. I went to the X-ray first and while I was there the receptionist told me that for the MRI they would need the notes from the Dr. or Insurance might not cover it. Do my X-ray, leave and call the Dr. to let them know about the whole notes thing. The receptionist at the Dr. office told me that she would send them everything. The day before my MRI appt. I get a letter in the mail from my Insurance that the request to get the MRI has been denied due to insufficient notes. Notes that the Insurance place received only said headache. Called the Dr. and told them, again they said they'd take care of it and have it appealed before the appt. Day of the appt I get a call from the Imaging place that my Insurance isn't approving it. Call Dr. and let them know, again, we'll take care of it. I went to my follow up appt. today not hearing anymore about the MRI and never getting my X-ray results. Whatever maybe we'll talk about it today. Appointment time is @ 1:30 pm, show up @ 1:15 pm, in case there was any paperwork or whatever. Get into room @ 2:00 pm and a dude came to do the basics, BP, O2, temp. He then asks me if I have a fever, bro, you just took my temp, you tell me. Chills? No. Okay we're gonna give you a COVID test. WHAT? WHY? I had 2 last time I came and both came back Neg. He points to a sign that says all patients are required to take a COVID test. Whatever do your test, get your money. It's now 2:20 pm and the Dr. finally comes in. "So what brings you in today?" YOU!! You brought me in today! I was done with it. I asked where my X-ray results were and she had to go find them 10mins later she's back with a fax from the Imaging place. I remind her about the MRI, again, and you guessed it, "We'll take care of it." Went up to the check out lady after 10ish minutes to get my appt. for the MRI, she tells me that my next appt is in 3 months. What about my MRI? She looks confused, turns to ask the Dr about it before she can I stop her. "You know what? Don't worry about it, I'm gonna find an actual Dr." read more

I'm sorry to say I have NEVER had a worse experience with a doctor. I had to take my mom out of her assisted living 3 times to complete all of the tests recommended by this doctor which meant that she went into a NEW 14-day COVID lockdown each time. But we believed the appointments were important enough to do so. During the 1st appointment the entire building was under construction! There was wood, wood shavings, nails, etc up & down the hallways and in most patient rooms! Mom & I had to step over the nails and wood to get to her patient room & the bathroom! All of the equipment used appeared really outdated (like pre-2000!) so I don't know what kind of honest results we were getting. And for our 4th appointment, to get all of mom's results, we scheduled a "telemedicine" appointment, over the phone, so mom wouldn't have to leave her home and go back into another lockdown. I worked that SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT into my work day! But THE DOCTOR WAS TOO BUSY WITH OTHER PATIENTS AND DIDN'T EVEN KEEP THE APPOINTMENT. Needless to say WE NEVER GOT ANY RESULTS and will NEVER GO BACK! This doctor is outdated and does not know how to run a business. SOOO DISAPPOINTED!!! read more

There are multiple areas for rating as with other posts. While I agree with the time management, I also place a higher importance on my health. Granted, I am luckier than most, due to work flexibility. Being new to the area, I was seen as a new patient and was able to get in immediately, the next day. While there was a multitude of tests that were initially run, it wasn't until my follow-up visit that I found they were all valuable! All too often we are seen by physicians that have no clue as to what is going on with the patient, until they are seen for a specific issue. This is not the case. Thanks to my follow up visit, we were able to identify irregularities and, start a treatment plan to benefit myself as an active, older male. Also, one of the tests verified that I do not experience two issues that my mother had previously had surgeries for. These were also not previously communicated by me, to the doctors office. That alone made me appreciate the initial attempt to understand as much about the patient that tests could provide. One of the first doctors office, and doctor, that I laughed and joked with. In the past few days since I wrote my first review (6/26/16) I have received 3 more bills from diagnostic companies (Boston Heart and Ally) for an additional $8000, bringing the total of billings stemming from my "annual physical" to nearly $14,000. I went in for nothing more than a standard physical to check my cholesterol level, etc. She turned it into the largest mess I have ever been in. Terrible Dr...Karen Thampoe wouldnt write me a perscription for weight loss pill adepex, because she wanted me to pay $800 out of pocket for HCG package that she is making money off. I went for annual check up and she ran so many test that I didnt need and I never got results for any of it (HUGE BILL). Dr Karen Thampoe and her staff sit in there office and talk about the patients business and their problems and I was able to hear everthing while waiting. The office is clean but feels very inpersonal when you walk in, class windows and no live person to speak with. This Dr and her staff really dont want to be bothered, and very poor poor customer service....The Dr Karen Thampoe just wants your money!!! read more
