Two days ago, I came across a tiny rat having a seizure on the sidewalk. He was suffering tremendously--lying on his side with all four legs spasming uncontrollably. It seemed clear he was in the process of dying a slow and terrible death. I placed him in a box and rushed him to the nearest vet, which turned out to be this place. I asked the man at reception if he would please ask the doctor on duty to put this poor, suffering creature out of his misery. He asked me if I had an account there, and I replied that I did not. He took the box into the back room and returned a few minutes later, saying that the veterinarian on duty refused to assist in any way and sent me away, telling me to visit an animal shelter a few miles away. I suspect they would have been willing to perform the procedure if I had an account they could bill. It took me at least 15 minutes to reach the shelter and speak to someone there--the rat seizing and suffering greatly the entire time. The doctor at the shelter understood the creature needed to be put down immediately and kindly proceeded with the procedure. I am writing this review to let all future and current customers of West LA Veterinary Group know that it is my belief that this business CARES ABOUT PROFITS, NOT ANIMALS. The Veterinarian's Oath (vets' version of human-medicine doctors' Hippocratic Oath) includes the following line: "I solemnly swear to use my scientific knowledge and skills for the benefit of society through the protection of animal health and welfare, the prevention and relief of animal suffering ..." This veterinarian refused to abide by the directives of their solemn oath, affording this poor little creature no relief from its suffering. Dr. Kim was excellent in helping diagnose and provide ongoing treatment for my cat's chronic kidney diseases. She was very thorough and detailed in her examination. Additionally, she provided a wide variety of suggestions and caring options that would fit our needs. Never had such a carrying and kind doctor, her exams are not just basic check-ups, she checks literally EVERYTHING before come up with a treatment plan. Great vet! We came here after a very bad experience with another LA vet (see previous yelp review...) and I am SO glad we did! West LA Vet is a night and day better experience. I knew this was already going to be better for us when I called the front desk (before my dog was even a patient yet) and talked with them for ten minutes about the problems my dog was having and they were extremely helpful and friendly and understanding and everything the previous vet was NOT! They weren't accepting new patients for another two months, but it was WORTH THE WAIT!! The vet techs are so nice and helpful when they come out to the car to get Riley (COVID Protocols) and when the Dr calls us to discuss the appointment she is super thorough and answers all of our questions and most importantly, they FOLLOW UP WITH YOU! When you're waiting on test results or when they're waiting to see if something changes in your dog or whatever, they remember and call! It's so refreshing. I have been very happy I moved my yorkie to be a patient of DR Quezada. Not only is she very knowledgeable, she helped me uncover my dogs dental abscesses and a heart murmur. I do not think my other veterinarians were taking x rays so I had no idea! Also there's a new heart medicine that will delay the onset of congestive heart failure that I would not have had if it weren't for Dr. Quezada who recommended a cardiologist. She also Cares and asks how everything is going every time we see her in the waiting room when getting the cytopoint allergy injections. Thank you Dr Quezada for being so amazing! read more

This review is well overdue, to me this place is a dream come true. It's simple, if you want a partnership, a doctor that really cares and is available, I suggest running, not walking, to West LA Veterinary Group. I found them after a terrible experience elswhere and am in love with how attentive they are. I have a puppy and have been so flustered with the do's and dont's. I just wanted a place with a smart doctor where I could get all my questions answered. Instead, I have a place that did that when I visited, but they also remember every little detail about my pup and home situation when issuing advice. I have a doctor that calls me, even if it's after office hours, to report back on lab results to give me her expert insight. I have a tech that walks around like he's always just heard a great joke and is excited to share it, and an office team that handles non-stop calls all while handling my non-stop chatter. I am new to the LA/Santa Monica area and incredibly happy and relieved to have found West LA Veterinary Group, after first going to another clinic (that had been recommended) where we received really disappointing service. My 10 year old dog is not doing well. She very rapidly began showing symptoms of (what we now are thinking is likely to be) nasal cancer. After a week of not getting answers or help with next steps (at a different clinic), I called West LA Veterinary Group. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and found a place in their schedule for me and my dog to come in the next day. We met with Dr. Quezada and her tech and both were kind, professional, respectful, knowledgeable and very thorough. I never felt rushed or as if they needed to "get us in and get us out" so all of my questions and concerns were addressed. Dr. Quezada quickly translated medical records from our past providers (and the initial clinic we went to in LA) and made me feel as if we had a solid plan in place. Unfortunately, my dog got worse over night. The next day I called West LA Veterinary Group and provided an update. All details were immediately relayed to Dr. Quezada who went out of her way to refer us to an emergency clinic vet, contact him and send our records to their clinic and call us back with recommendations. Things are still quite urgent with our beloved dog but I am just so grateful for Dr. Quezada and her colleagues and staff. I provide my highest recommendation for the West LA Veterinary Group. We will definitely be returning with our other animal family members and are happy to have found a place in LA for our veterinary needs. read more

Dr. Quezada and her team are AMAZING! They are incredibly responsive, compassionate, accommodating and friendly. I brought our cat to Dr. Quezada as she was displaying very odd behavior. On 3 occasions, she found time to see our cat within 24 hours of calling. Her network connections and knowledge of the industry are incredible. Dr. Quezada conferred with other respected veterinarians and progressive University staff to confirm that her hunch was correct, the ailment was a botched spaying (from another vet)!! Our "spayed" cat was in heat! Dr. Quezada and her team provided immediate relief for the cat and she was scheduled for surgery within the week. We are grateful for her kind heart, expertise and insane knowledge and skill level. This type of exploratory surgery can be frustrating, but she accepted the challenge with a smile and kindness that calmed us all. Our cat loves going to the West LA Vet Group, which is very odd. She welcomes her carrier and even jumps in on her own. The entire staff is ridiculously nice and competent beyond expectation. Dr. Kim fell well short of my idea of a caring thoughtful vet. I took my pup to Dr. Kim with the concern that she was lethargic. Dr. Kim told me she didn't think my pup seemed lethargic but decided to run bloodwork and gave her a rabies vaccine (before the bloodwork results were back). Two days later the test results showed my pup was anemic and I suspect the rabies vaccine (administered before the bloodwork results came back) contributed to my pups fast decline ultimately resulting in the need for a blood transfusion with thousands of dollars still being spent to save her life. It has been a nightmare. read more

The vet techs are nice and mostly helpful but do not take your dog here unless they're from a puppy mill, as the vets cannot handle any dog that has a shred of anxiety. Dr. Kim is largely humorless and has a terrible bedside manner. After my second visit with my rescue dog she recommended an at home vet or going to another vet, as if my dog was just too difficult to handle because he was anxious about a bunch of random people handling and prodding him. Perhaps any dog over 25 pounds is too difficult to handle for her practice. The vet techs are very nice which is why this is 2 stars and not 1, but after my last visit where they literally called me in to muzzle my own dog so they could attempt to give him shots, I'm through with this place. For the record my dog has 0 aggression and is, understandably for a rescue dog, anxious about the vet. Looking forward to going to a vet where they can handle dogs larger than a toy Pomeranian Update: Went to a great new vet in the Palisades who got the job done on the first try and is so caring and kind and personable, even with the constraints of Covid-19. I've been coming to this place for about a year now for our two dogs. I felt the pricing in the West Hollywood area near me was ridiculously overpriced, so I went a bit further out in my search on Yelp and I found their prices to be a bit more reasonable. Don't get me wrong, they are still high, but not absurdly high. I will say for medicine whether it is through their office or any local pharmacy, if you are using medicine for a chronic condition, you will get much better pricing using VetapprovedRX online for about 50% of the cost in many cases. As far as the quality of the service, the front desk is very friendly, very responsive, they seem to care, most of the time they are good about communicating messages to the doctor. It hasn't always been perfect. There was an instance where I was scheduled to see Doctor Kim only to find out she doesn't do appointments that day...but that was a miscommunication for on instance and they have been much more reliable since then. The place is very clean be it the bathroom, the rooms, the front desk, the sitting area...very comfortable environment from that perspective. As far as the expertise of the doctor, we use Doctor Kim the majority of the time and she is excellent. She always gets back to us if we have questions, she doesn't give up if something seems challenging. She always gives us enough time to talk with her for each visit. We don't feel rushed. We've given her several tough cases with our older dog and so far, she has managed to shift the trend in a positive direction. With all the Vets I have tried near where I live..many of them 5 minutes away...the fact that I am willing to travel 20-30 minutes to see this place should say something. Parking is never an issue as they have parking spots right behind the building. Behind those spots is a pay lot, but you don't have to use that lot as the ones designated for the place usually have at least one or two open. Hours of operation are reasonable. I really wanted to like this vet after the reviews. However, we had poor communication from them on two occasions. When booking our puppies first appointment, we were not informed on the process, that we would have to leave our dog unattended as no entry is granted, and that we should bring a stool sample. Following the examination, the doctor asked if we brought a stool sample and we informed her we had not. She apoloyized and told us to bring the sample anytime this week. She also emailed us saying this. NOT ONCE did she or her staff mention there is an added fee or this was optional. She deceptively made it sound included and that this was something we just needed to bring. It was a waste of time and extrememly unprofessional. Don't go here unless you want to be surprised. read more

These guys are just awful. Zero bedside manner from the reception, I've been bringing my dogs there for years and years and they always act like they've never seen me before. They supposedly keep Saturday open for emergency visits but I called the minute they opened and they were already "double booked". Long hold times and then when they pick back up they always act like they haven't spoken to me yet. I can't stress enough how terrible the front desk staff is. Could care less about your dogs situation, it's like speaking to robots. My dog was spayed here, and I explained her subsequent negative symptoms that I wanted her seen for, and there was absolutely zero regard for my concern. The doctors just couldn't care less about patient care and relationships, it's a total churn and burn operation. Will be very happy to take my business elsewhere now. If you want to be treated like a human being that matters, go elsewhere. read more

The receptionists who greet you are nice and helpful, and the nurses who talked to us were informative, friendly, familiar, and took the time to answer all our questions. My Dog was diagnosed with Giardia on Saturday afternoon May 25th. Unfortunately, I was out of town and coming back after 8pm. Since the clinic is closed Sunday and Monday I was in a bind regarding getting the medicine to my dog. Otherwise my dog would had needed to wait until Tuesday. Dr. Cynthia Quezada cared so much about my dog that she asked where I live. I told her I live in the area and she offered dropping the medicine at my house. That is really a Dr. who cares about animals and goes the extra mile for their health! If you are looking at the Veterinarian don't go anyplace else. Dr. Quezada is amazing and the whole stuff too! Dr Kim's bedside manner is horrible. Took my puppy there almost two weeks ago for her 2nd set of vaccinations. She recommended I give her the Kennel cough vaccine which I did. Within a couple of days my dog starting to experience sneezing. Called the doctor she said that could occur and to give it a week to see if it goes away. It didn't, and turned more into coughing. Brought her back in and she proceeded to tell me the vaccine company says it's unlikely that the vaccine caused this.. seriously? We were not in there more than 10 min as she started to walk out, I said I had one more question to go over and I received a sigh. Just horrible, cold service. Never returning to this vet. It's been a little while since Dr. Connie Kim helped me and my senior foster through his most difficult years. According to another vet, despite his spondylosis, severe arthritis, antibiotic resistant UTI, he was an 80 lb dog that would eat humans. He had a fierce sense of bodily autonomy like nobody's business. Dr. Kim saw it would be best for him to have most of his treatment where he could be with me and accommodated his needs. When I finally let him go, she sent me the sweetest note that brought me to tears. He was not an easy dog and most definitely not for a vet, yet Dr. Kim tried with great sensitivity to help him be as comfortable as he could be in his final years. Thank you, Dr. Kim. read more

They'll often fit squeeze me in if I need a last min appointment, which means I don't have to deal with waiting at VCA. Drs. Kim and Quezada are amazing. We met them with our first rescue through the Lange Foundation where they volunteered their time. Now both our pups are under Dr. Kim's amazing care. She calls you back to follow up on her care. The flea and worm prevention medication runs through an online pharmacy and gets mailed to the house. Their prices seem on par for the Westside.
