Fantastic shop! Rob and WLC has been my go to shop for years. Not only do they provide great service but excellent advice too. Rob just saved my butt with advice on a rear wheel that for sure is near failure. And not to sell me a wheel, but out of concern for a fellow cyclist. WLC didn't have a replacement in stock and Rob was still happy to help me with replacement wheels I bought online as well as brake issues. Not enough nice things to say about Rob and WLC. I just had the worst customer service experience I've ever had. Ever. I took my carbon racing bike in to have the cables changed after I had just fully detailed it. The bike was in flawless condition, and the owner Rob agreed & said it was gleaming. When I picked it up he charged me $24 more than he told me he would charge; I never said a word - just thanked him, said a few nice things & paid it. When I got home I discovered several scratches on the carbon frame, and the front bar was very rough the entire length about 2" wide. So I rearranged my dinner plans and took it back. I don't deny I had a tone when I asked if there was anything they wanted to tell me about my frame. The young guy said it wasn't scratched, that he just had never cleaned off the residue from the previous cables. I said OK but the others are definitely scratches. Instead of offering any resolution, Rob came over and literally started jumping up and down screaming personal insults at me and told me to get out. I paused and disbelief, having never seen a grown man meltdown like that, but he started jumping and screaming and waving his arms. Completely bizarre. So I just left with my damaged bike. He might have saved a dollar by not even offering to touch up the paint, but I can guarantee 100% I will never go back. And he's a little guy, so I doubt he would do that to a man or if there were other people present, but if you're a female by yourself I would caution you to not go there. Needless to say, I do NOT recommend this bike shop. I just saw Rob edited his response below, so I'll edit mine. My bike had only been used with kid gloves for two years, and then had been wrapped with padding in storage for the past 11 yrs, so it's 13 yrs old, not 20. It did not have any damage whatsoever. Rob never once spoke to me in a rational tone and started hurling multiple insults instantly, then told me to fix it myself. Notice he doesn't deny doing bad service or overcharging me. He's spinning his version to try to make himself not look so bad to justify his actions. Worse yet, after I posted my review Rob sent me a message threatening to sue me for 'harassment', which is especially ridiculous given that it was him who was continuing the conversation. Posting a review is not harassment. It's bad enough to do such poor service, then to treat a customer that way, but to threaten to sue for leaving a negative but truthful review shows how small of a person he really is. And I stand by my review 100%. read more

This is an excellent bike store with great service and reasonable prices. I brought in an old mountain bike that needed a lot of service and I got very good attention. The guy who took the bike was very knowledgeable and friendly. The prices are very reasonable. A tune up is $65 and for brakes and tires there is no extra labor charge. I brought my bike in on a Monday and was told it would be ready in three or four days. I was pleasantly surprised to get a call on Wednesday afternoon telling me the bike was ready. After the repairs, the bike runs excellent and I am able to log faster speeds than before and do not need to shift as much. While in the store, I also asked about new bikes and they have a good selection and don't try to oversell you. The prices on the new bikes are also good. I very highly recommend this store. read more

West Liberty Cycles is wonderful. I had a major service issued: my crankset broke and actually dented part of my bike's frame. They took it in and worked with Shimano to make sure the parts under warranty were thoroughly fixed and/or replaced. Thorough, Cheerful, Fairly Priced. I've always liked WLC. I brought the bike in to have new handlebars installed. While they were at it, they checked the headset and discovered that I had reinstalled it incorrectly...basically backwards and upside down. WLC, looking out for the occasional mechanic. Listen... lots of bike shoppes are popping up in the Pittsburgh area. There is a lot of competition. These guys will treat you with respect, and answer any questions you have in as great detail as you desire whether you are buying a $10 accessory, a $30 repair, or a $2000 bike. Furthermore, if you need a repair they treat you the same whether you have a top-of-the-line bike or a Walmart bike. Before he got sick, my father bought me a department store Schwinn right around the time they got iffy. He didn't have a lot of money. His dad had bought him a Schwinn at the same age. With the money I've spent on parts over the years on this bike I could have purchased a premium bicycle. But this obviously hold some sentimental value, so I appreciate their care with it. Also, had an inconvenient problem after I had some maintence done and they fixed it VERY quickly and explained to me in detail (and physically showed me) what was wrong with my bike. I wouldn't go anywhere else. Problem you'll find in other stores (especially that one on Bethel Church Road): Snobbery, elitists, over pricing, eye rolls, and entitlement. Touching upon Whitney B.'s review from July 2, 2015... No, don't pull the Gender card on this. It has nothing to do with you being a woman. These guys are bike-minded. It might be their one drawback. I don't think one of them could run for a political office and win because they just simply aren't fakers. They aren't overly-nice. They aren't gushy. What they lack for in some people's expectations of warmth and courtesy, they make up for with expertise and fair pricing which is really what you're going there for. This is a great little bike shop! I went here looking for a hybrid and tried out a couple of different models. One of the bikes I wanted to try they didn't have assembled in my size yet, but Rob said they would assemble it in my size and have it available for me to test ride either that afternoon or the next day. I went back the next day to try it out, and though I ended up liking the other (less expensive) model better, I thought it was great that he was willing to assemble a bike just so that I could try it out to be sure of my decision. He also threw in a bottle cage and kickstand for free when I bought the bike! They may not have the biggest selection, but this is a really amazing LBS that goes above and beyond for its customers. read more

Unacceptable repair work - to their credit, they did redo it without charge; however, when picking up the bike they were EXTREMELY RUDE and accused me of exaggerating the issue. I regret not taking a picture of the "exaggeration". They stated that it was "standard practice"...if that is the standard that is acceptable to them and they feel it is Ok to be rude to customers, I'll be happy to find another bike shop. read more

This place is as good as it gets. There are a lot of great bike shops in Pittsburgh, but this one has that mom & pa feel to it. Plus they have pro gear and expertise. I will definitely purchase my next bike there and will go here for all maintenance moving forward. Stopped in to have a tire fixed and i was in and out of the door within 10 minutes. The guy was willing to share a ton of information and told me about their program where you can rent a protocol bike for an afternoon to try it out before you spend a lot of money. This is a great shop with a great staff. They are all in love with bicycles themselves and they share their enthusiasm with the customer. This shop has done me right so many times I can't even go into it. I bought a great Jamis bike that EXACTLY matched every description / review/ representation given to me. No oversell or BS-just honest. Every time I have mechanical work done on any bikes here, the work is excellent, quick and reasonable. They do excellent mechanical work. It is a great feeling picking stuff up knowing the work was done right, even with beaters and crappy teenager bikes-they don't care, they all get the same care!! What a great experience I had at this shoppe. I checked out several other bike shoppes before finding this gem. I was looking for a affordable road bike. They allowed me to test ride several bikes and I was able to buy the one that worked best for me. When I went to pick up the bike they made sure it fit me . I came in tonight ready to buy a bike. In fact, I called to see if they had the specific bike I was looking for. There were plenty of workers there, and I waited around for ten minutes before I left. I was really disappointed. It was only when I was leaving when a guy asked me if I needed help. Maybe it was because I am a woman? The only people getting help in there tonight were two other guys. After moving to Bookline, I decided to try out west liberty cycles and see if they were any good. I had been going to Thick bikes for years for my repairs, so I had very high standards for a local bike shop. Liberty cycles did a top notch tune up, cleaning and greasing everything front to back. They also did a great job of talking through option for switching out my handlebars and worked to make sure it was affordable when it was all done.
