When I returned the owner (a woman in her 50-60's) full out accosted me and demanded I pay her $10 for use of their property. I thought it was a park I had stopped at and I apologized, but she wasn't having it. She kept yelling, how could I possibly think this is a park!? I paid her to get her to leave me alone and she continued to berate me. I finally had to say, "I paid the $10, can you leave me alone now!?" The answer was no. I was honestly sorry I was trespassing and apologized, then paid. What more do you want from me? She's a first class jerk. Avoid this place like the plague. It gets even better. I posted this review while still sitting there. The lady apparently saw this and stormed out and started yelling at me again. She demanded my ID and told me she was going to call the police if I didn't remove the review. I told her that, no, I would not give her my ID and I also would not remove the review. I told her she is welcome to the call the police, I'm not breaking the law. She told me I'm trespassing. I then reminded her that I paid $10 for the privilege of sitting here and being berated. She said, "I'll give you the $10 back." She also pointed out that I don't have a license for my canoe. Later I looked this up and apparently you do actually need a license for a canoe so I guess I was breaking the law. I'm a bad ass. At this point her husband came out. He was initially confrontational but he quickly calmed down and helped calm down his wife. At this point I was packing anyway and just wanted to get the hell out of there. I never got my $10 back :)

We parked at the Oak Opening area and hiked down to Lake Defiance, taking the Lake Defiance Trail. We stopped at the Nature Center to see some displays and chat with the ranger, and then continued our hike. Seeing the moraines, the leftover hills and ridges from the retreating Wisconsin Glacier, 10's of thousands of years ago, was a geologic trip through time. This is a great local state park that does not have an entrance fee! (None of our state parks have entrance fees to the best of my knowledge!) This is a place I can't wait to get back to explore, right in the backyard of the Chicago 'burbs!

Very knowledgeable and patient with everything I tossed their way! Brian took his time and helped narrow down an overwhelming selection to what will fit my needs. Thanks for that! I typically plan on "only looking" whenever I stop in but often fail. (Thank God for an understanding wife). That said, I'm very pleased with my purchases and will definitely continue to give my business with CY! As for the range, it's what Brian classifies as "old-school". Nothing fancy but, come on... what do you need other than a safe lane and a target to practice? This checks the box! My wife even likes the hand-crank to send the target out and back rather than the electronic controls. There's always been at least 1 lane ready and waiting whenever I've been there. As a guy, I don't put much emphasis in the bathrooms at a business but my wife really does appreciate a clean and stocked facility which CY has! It was just totally re-done! Husbands all know that it's a drag when you have to leave somewhere that you are having fun only to find your wife a bathroom that's up to her standards. Ugh... Now I can stay as long as I want! They also have more esoteric offerings like fishing gear, gizmos, and flimsy kids toys. Importantly, they rent our paddle boats, motors boats, kayaks, and canoes. The staff will make sure you have life vests and they haul them out to the water for you. I recommend taking a book and some sandwiches up the Fox River for a few hours, it's the fastest way to leave land behind without owning a boat of your own. Also, in the event you get rained out while camping at the park, Gill's also cook burgers and have a shelter to eat them in. ;)
