A day pass is $8.00 and is good till 10:00PM (you can leave and come back). They give you a map as well. You can drive the whole thing and see a lot from your car. There's also plenty of pull-offs for picture opportunities. For ones that like hiking, there's plenty of that there. I'm not big into hiking, and I also didn't pack to do so. Lol. There is cave you see from the road, and if you want you can do a short hike to it. I wasn't on planning really hiking anywhere but this was short enough. Easy to get up, going down you have to be a lil careful. Good place for pictures too. Camping ground are available too. Anyways, if you're in town visiting or never have been there, I definitely recommend it!

There's a large playground, the Amarillo Botanical Garden next door and a 1 mile loop around the pond which made it easy to do my runs. I was warned about the geese infestation and the possibility of geese poop on the trail. I didn't see any while I was visiting, but I thought that was worth noting. There's an extended part of the trail but you have to cross traffic for it, so the one mile loop worked best for me. A lot of people were walking the trail through my three visits, a school bus was there with kids in the playground and on Saturday plenty of people were fishing in the pond. A really great and well maintained park!

While we were there he caught two catfish. The playground was fun, but the water in the splash pad was turned off. It could have been after 8pm when the park closes. There were lots of families at the playground and everyone seemed very inclusive. This park is near the Don Harrington Discovery center and they had a fairly large tortoise living on the outside premises. It was neat. I would like to come back to visit that museum. All-in-all .... This park was the best part of Amarillo on this stop through.

We hiked through the entire North Prong Trail which totaled about 7 miles and it was truly gorgeous. There were some difficult moments at points, but nothing I couldn't do. The weather was nice, there was plenty of parking to head into the trails, and I had a great time. The Canyons are absolutely stunning and mesmerizing know this is hidden away in Texas. It is filled with gravel or small Pebbles and there is a partial fence around it. There's lots of beautiful green grass for running and playing ball and walking dogs and some pretty trees to offer shade when they're full of leaves. We saw lots of families here when we brought the kids here to play. There is a church next door and a school right across the street so it feels like a perfectly safe place to bring the kids to play. As a single mother I wish that they had family locker rooms like I have seen at other high end gyms. My 3 year old son and I were going to the pool on a Sunday so the kid area was closed. I got reprimanded by an employee for having my toddler in the woman's dressing room with me. With no place else for us to go change together that kinda seemed unreasonable.

The only issue we had and it was a big one, is that the bathrooms were a nightmare. I am not exaggerating when I say that they looked like they came out of a post-apocalyptic video game. My kids, who are but neat-freaks by any definition would not even go in. In fact, my son opted to leave the park entirely and go find another public restroom rather than to use this one. There was poop smeared on the floors, toilet paper and it looks like it hadn't been cleaned since Davy Crockett had been in Texas.
