If you're on the fence about trying rolfing, I highly recommend going to see Jeanne! I had been dealing with some muscular/neuromuscular issues for nearly 3 years by the time I went to see her. I had previously been to physical therapy and massage therapy, both of which were quite helpful, but I just hadn't been able to get over the final plateau until now. Jeanne is an experienced rolfer with an extensive knowledge base. I think she is particularly skilled at teaching you how to heal yourself and providing you with a "toolbox" for future neuromuscular issues and pain that may arise. I have learned from her that pain responses are highly complex and that I have the ability to modulate them. I no longer have fear or anxiety if I feel a familiar twinge of pain or tightness because I can go back to what I've learned about my own body and correct it. I also very much appreciate her holistic view of the body and how she is more than willing to integrate other specialities, like physical therapy, as needed. Jeanne is a very gifted, knowledgeable and intuitive Rolfer who helped me with some repetitive shoulder issues that were really becoming an issue. She not only helped relieve the pain but after the first session, I could lift my arm above my head better afterwards, whereas before it felt weak and heavy. I found Jeanne to be very professional and personable and really helped bring attention to part of my shoulder that was restricted. What I rally love about jeanne is her ability to explalin annatomy and its function and how it realates to my contdition and what her goal is for me. I first went to Jeanne a year and a half ago. I have worked with many highly skilled massage therapists over the past 30 years after back surgery (with no PT afterward, which I've paid for in pain ever since). I also studied ballet for more than 10 years, and jogged for decades. All of these put together created many chronic issues that my movement patterns didn't help. With the best massage therapists, I was able to get through two weeks between appointments until the pain made it difficult to focus on my work or enjoy a pain free walk in my neighborhood. I heard about Rolfing in the 1970's but it was known to be very painful. After driving past Jeanne's West Seattle Rolfing sign in front of her building for a couple of years, I decided to look into Rolfing, hoping it had been updated for long term benefit without the pain. Jeanne's reviews were excellent and the more I looked into Rolfing, the more it sounded like it could be a real solution for me. I made my first appointment in early 2016. From the moment I started working with Jeanne, I knew she was a good match for me. She is extremely knowledgeable and continues taking advanced Rolfing courses to constantly enhance her understanding of how she can best support her clients at a deeper level. She is quite different from the massage therapists I've gone to -- instead of ongoing work with no end, Rolfing is designed to help most people in about 10 sessions. For me, that's not the case because of the chronic nature of my issues. But because of her remarkable work, I am now able to go monthly instead of every two weeks, and have even gone as long as six weeks between appointments. Jeanne came to Rolfing after a long and successful career in tech. She chose Rolfing as a calling and it shows in her exceptional skills and dedication to advanced training. Her office is so comfortable, clean, and filled with natural light from all the windows -- which open (fabulous in the warm months!). I am no longer in pain even when it's been six weeks since my last appointment, which is a miracle. To be able to get through four or even six weeks is something I could not imagine before discovering her. As a major added bonus, the people she has referred me to are as exceptional as she is. Just finished my 10-series with Jeanne and I feel soooo much better. I had been getting regular massages but my mobility issues weren't improving. After complaining about not feeling like exercising to my dietitian, she recommended that I see Jeanne. I made an appointment with West Seattle Rolfing and I could not be happier with my results. I stand straighter, my shoulders are no longer rolled forward like a hunchback, I don't wake up with back pain. I just all around feel...bouncier. That's the only way I can describe it. If you are feeling a bit older than your years and you want some of that youthful feeling back, I would recommend coming here and having Jeanne work her magic. Don't believe what you hear about how much rolfing supposedly hurts. I had never tried Rolfing before, and tried it because I am friends with the proprietor of West Seattle Rolfing. I am so glad that I tried it! I had surgery on one of my feet and found the whole experience to be really painful and the recovery process difficult. So when I started down the same road with the other foot I was desperate to make surgery the final option. With the help of West Seattle Rolfing I was able to increase flexibility throughout my body, decrease pain, and wear flat shoes without special orthopedics. I think that is an amazing win! Now for some of you who might be like me and wonder what Rolfing is, well it is complicated to describe. However, for me it feels like massage mixed with physical therapy. I particularly like how as a client I got to work with the practitioner throughout each session to help heal my body. I felt like I had control and a voice in my care, and the practitioner really strived to listen and hear my needs. I'd highly recommend this service. read more

I have worked with Jeanne this past year. I purchased her 10-series and I have loved the structural integration work, though sometimes it's intense. She is sooo knowledgable about the human body, it's amazing. Now that I'm 32-weeks pregnant, I still go to Jeanne, and I feel like she creates more "space" for my little one. I was looking for a style of body work that would actually change my body. The work I do, a few car accidents and a habit of bad posture left me feeling bound in places that Chiropractic and massage weren't addressing. I knew Jeanne and had heard of Rolfing, but it took a few other people telling me their successes to get me in to see her. I'm glad I did! I've now completed a full body series of Rolfing and my life is changed. I'm not trying to be hyperbolic, but my body changed in ways that I never knew were possible, and frankly didn't know were off. Without oversharing, I will just state that not only am I standing better and using better body mechanics, but my intimate life has changed as well, due to the pelvic/psoas/hip work that I received. I've worked with Jeanne on several occasions and am a huge believer in the power of Rolfing. Our first session (two years ago) was on my chest -- I was getting winded just walking up the stairs and would sweat while doing even a moderate amount of housework. Jeanne's technique -- a combination of deep tissue massage and physical therapy, informed by deep knowledge of how bone, muscle, organs and connective tissue work in harmony, helped open up my breathing -- the more air I could get into my lungs, the less stress I put on my body while exerting. Next, we worked on my legs. I have a pronated gait, when I bend my knees they smash into each other instead of flexing normally, making it impossible to kneel down without pain. Jeanne's work on my body from head to toe (since everything is connected) helped me walk with less knee pain. Finally, my shoulder. I injured it 2 years ago and have been living with chronic pain -- especially at night. Six rounds of physical therapy would get the level 7 or 8 pain down to a 3 for about a week (while the tape on my shoulder held), but I would always be back to a 7 or 8 by the next PT session. TWO sessions with Jeanne and the pain is a zero most of the time, and a 1 at most when I have not stretched or exercised in a while. It's a miracle. Getting there was not easy -- Jeanne's massage and Rolfing techniques (gentle pressure, stretching, holding) went way up into my shoulder socket and I could tell when she reached the distressed area. It "hurt so good" as they say, and within a half day, the pain was totally resolved. The muscles and connective tissue were returned to where they should be. The range of motion improvement has made me more productive at work -- and the sleep improvement has benefited my health and spirit beyond words. read more

I was so fortunate to find Jeanne, who answered all my questions and provided such a safe environment for me. She has such a positive and nonjudgmental attitude, inviting me to also see areas of my body as full of possibility rather than lacking. The 10-series focuses on different areas of the body systematically, and after each session, I noticed a tremendous difference in how my body moved. I have significantly less pain and noticeably more flexibility. I also have gained a much more connected, conscious view of my body - I am more aware of when I am tensing muscles (like holding my shoulders up) and in noticing, I can choose whether to maintain the posture or perhaps relax. One of my doctor friends had suggested Rolfing might help my chronically bad posture. I went to Jeanne, whom I did not know at all, and was very relieved to find her easy to talk to and very professional. She suggested a set of ten sessions, which is standard in Rolfing, I now know, and it was much better in terms of pain than I thought it would be. All of the movements were very slow and gradual, and each session focused on a different part of the body. the most impressive thing was how it "opened up" parts of my body, particularly my shoulders. My range of motion greatly increased: I was pleasantly surprised! It's now been a month since I finished, and my body feels pretty much pain-free, as compared to the aches and pains I experienced beforehand. Jeanne is kind, compassionate, professional, an exceptional listener, and skilled in the practice of Rolfing. What she does is so much more than simply massage therapy. She has help me to understand my body and has educated me in the area of pain science research. After each session she sent me home with homework to work on. I was surprised to find that much of the research and information on the topic of pain science that is available out there many medical doctors do not been taught. It gave me so much hope as I had been diagnosed with chronic pain resulting from injuries a year ago. After working with her for the last couple months, working with a personal trainer at the gym, and diving into processing some of my own past emotional wounds I have experienced a huge decrease in pain and my body continues to get better and better. I am now 100% fully capable of taking care of my children again. I feel hopeful and I'm excited to train as I am preparing to return to the sport of obstacle course racing, which was my passion before all the injuries. Wow, what a great experience! Jeanne is a very skilled practitioner with amazing knowledge of the human body. Her anatomy explanations and demonstrations are so clear and easy to understand. I have been a Hellerwork practitioner for 18 years, so my body knows good Structural Integration (S.I. is the generic name for this stuff) when it gets it. Jeanne Vadnais' work makes me whole again -- shoulders down, neck free, feet planted on the ground. Yes, the sessions are expensive compared to massage but this IS NOT MASSAGE!
