Here I am again dealing with the incompetent business office at the Quaker location in Lubbock. If my insurance allowed me to go somewhere else, I'd be gone in a minute. These people lowball your estimate. They make you pay that up front. Then blame the insurance company when they send you a larger bill after surgery.. I paid up front almost 700. That was supposed to be what my insurance wouldn't pay. I questioned it heavily about everything being included. Oh yes ma'am he (Jason) says. These employees have been there long enough to know how estimates should be figured. Yet they lowball to get you to sign off on the surgery. After surgery I get another bill for 800 plus. There were no problems with my surgery to cause extra charges. Really bad business practices. If you have the option to use another place? Go there instead of here. The business office is inept. Incapable of treating people fairly. So deceptive. They are in no way being upfront with their patients about cost of services. Evidently their company thinks that is fine and encourages it. I have no problem paying my bill. I just expect West Texas Eye Assoc to be upfront about charges form the beginning. Oh and if you tune in to people talking in the waiting area, it's always packed. You'll hear many complaints. One lady and one gentleman were more than happy to share their experience with West Texas Eye business office. I know I am not alone in my experience. read more

My experience with this clinic for a contact lens exam was extremely poor, primarily due to consistent failures in communication and follow-through by the office staff. Timeline of Issues: 10/23 (Initial Exam): I was told trial contact lenses for my new prescription would be ordered. 11/6 (Follow-up): I returned due to persistent eyelid irritation. The trial lenses had not been ordered. The doctor agreed to call in a prescription for the irritation immediately. 12/3 (Prescription Call): I finally received a call from the pharmacy regarding the eyelid prescription. By this time, I had already successfully treated the issue using natural remedies due to the long delay. 12/10 (Current Date): After calling the office, I learned that the trial contacts were never ordered at all. This lack of action has left me without necessary contacts. An order is supposedly being placed today. Key Concerns: Failure to Order Trials: The primary issue is the repeated failure to order my trial contact lenses, which has severely impacted my ability to obtain my new prescription. Poor Communication: There was a nearly four-week delay in calling in a necessary medical prescription. Furthermore, the office staff rarely answers the phone, making follow-up difficult. Prescription Release: The office is currently refusing to release my contact lens prescription until I have tried the new one, but they have actively prevented me from doing so by failing to order the trials. I wasted over a month dealing with inadequate service and poor logistical management. I urge the clinic to improve its administrative processes and communication immediately. read more

They don't take eye insurance even though they say they will over the phone. Dr. Sies was mocking and disrespectful. The techs even look at him with astonishment. I had to stop him as he was walking out the door to ask if he had included my prism, and he didn't know I had one, even though it was in my previous prescription. Unbelievable. read more

I had my eye lids decreased so I could see better and for eye health. the upside to this was it helped my looks also for the better. Dr Ray and his staff were amazing. I would totally recommend him to anyone. If you have lost alot of weight I would say do this. I see and look so much better. read more

This is obviously a for profit business that does not consider their middle to low income customers needs. I'm sure a wealthy patient has a much better experience since they can pay for all the "upgrades". The facility meets the minimum requirements for handicapped accessibility. There are 4 handicap parking spaces and only 2 small ramps onto the sidewalks close to the door causing traffic congestion at the front where all the handicapped individuals who can't park are being dropped off. Individuals without a driver will have to go through the parking lot traffic to access the handicap ramps to the sidewalk. The entrance doors are not automatic so the handicap individuals have to wait for someone to come along to open the doors for them. Upon entrance to the facility you check in on a computer with a state issued ID and then settle in for a long wait. It seems they have overbooked appointments and there are not enough rooms for everyone scheduled. When you go through the evaluation process the technician usually cleans the machine before use which means you have to smash your face on a wet machine. THey do not clean it after each use. I guess they are assuming the next person will clean it. At the end of the appointment they send you to a "counselor" who presents a portfolio with language that tries to persuade the patient to upgrade the procedure for an out of pocket cost ranging from $1500-$5000 and making the insurance covered procedure seem like torture. The office staff failed to call with the surgery time or any information about what the insurance had approved. We had to call to get the surgery time which caused confusion for when she was supposed to arrive. Marivel at the surgery center was kind and helpful even though we were late. During the procedure my mother reported she felt like she was being tossed around. They roughly strapped her head down, jerked it to one side and then the other, and at the end ripped the protective tape off her good eye which caused her additional pain. They then took her to a waiting area, placed her back in her wheelchair, and told me to drive her to the other location for the follow-up monitoring. The nurse, Lesa, and the other med tech assistant were very sympathetic during this rushed exit process. My mother asked why they didn't keep her at the surgery center for the follow-up monitoring. I explained my best guess is that is one of the upgrades patients can pay for out of pocket. When we arrived, the front desk had a patient's information laying on the front counter (sorry Wesley H. I now know all your basic information) While waiting the eye shield fell off and the technician retapped it with office tape (similar to scotch tape) instead of medical tape. The next day we arrived for our follow-up and waited 22 minutes past our appointment time. The technician did her part and then placed us in a room to wait for the doctor. We walked by Dr. Khater who stated he was going to his office to research something leaving us to continue sitting around for him. He does not appear to be a people person and lacks the soft skills necessary to make a patient feel comfortable and cared for. A second technician, Jessica, came in to double check and document the service. She smiled and patiently explained what she was going to do. She is one of the few who seems to care about the patient. read more

I am very impressed with West Texas Eye Associates. My first appointment was with Dr. Bradley to determine that I was a candidate for cataract surgery and lenses. I was scheduled for surgery on both eyes with Dr. Shehz. One eye then 2 weeks the other eye. Both surgeries went as planned, were painless, quick and no recovery time. I had no issues seeing and had immediate results. Over the next week it got even better. The front desk staff was very efficient and friendly , the eye techs were all friendly and efficient, and the Doctors are well trained, explained the procedure in detail and provided excellent care. I could not be more pleased with the entire process and my new vision. I highly recommend West Texas Eye Associates to anyone with eye issues. read more

I'm hopping mad. 5 months. 2 eye surgeries. 9 office visits total. 2 invoices, each paid in full at the 2nd and 6th appointments. $4,910 total. All went fine until today. At my 9th, and final post op appointment on July 19th, I was presented with a NEW bill for $350 for a consultation which is listed as $0.00 on the invoice I'd already paid. Counter lady wouldn't let me see the doctor unless I paid it. I tried, unsuccessfully, to tell the older, heavy set woman at the counter that I'd already paid all of the invoices they'd given me. I was not informed of ANY other charges when I paid my bill. (I have both receipts from the Quaker office). I haven't been emailed an invoice nor has any office person informed me of it at any of my previous appointments. A friend, Kyle Jackson, told me they'd done the same thing to him. Hit him up for another $350 after all his bills were paid. Now, I am in a bind. I can't see Dr. Khater for a final post op appointment. It's been two weeks and my eyesight hasn't sharpened up yet. Update: I get an email today, Friday July 12th from West Texas Eye informing me that I'd missed my 9th appointment on July 10th. I DIDN'T MISS THE APPOINTMENT. 1. Was talked into trying contacts after many, many failed attempts, and at the fitting the contact was forced into my eye causing extreme pain. 4 days of pain later, I was told I had a lacerated cornea and immediately sent to see their cornea specialist. No one ever admitted wrongdoing or apologize. Seeing another doc in the practice later, I was not listened to and given the 'just use eyedrops' spiel for double vision and sent on my way; the problem persists. My partner had cataract surgery and opted to pay out of pocket for the upgrades. When they didn't work and he was rechecked, we were then informed that they couldn't work because he has macular degeneration. Why didn't they check this and know before upselling us? I only have two eyes and evidently can't trust these doctors to take care of them. read more

This place is awful. The first time I went in for a contact lens exam, they didn't ask me to take my contacts out. They did the testing/imaging unknowingly w/me wearing them!! The doctor quoted me some $1000/piece lenses and thought I had an eye disease. Then when I told them I had my contacts in, Dr. Matthews said "oh. I've done that before." I didn't have an eye disease nor did my contacts need to be $1000. Wait time is horrible too. Better take the whole day off work if you want to be seen. My experience with the one on 50th, was not good, as I felt to put it bluntly like a heard of cattle going to the slaughter pen, when i walked in at the front desk, i had all of the necessary things requested with a smile on my face but it went down hill quickly, she told me my copay from insurance, and i new me copay and the lady started to have an attitude, so i paid it and called my insurance, that's when the called me back up and said they charged me over and gave me a refund but it did not end there, after it was all done seen the Dr and everything I walked out checked with front desk before leaving and they proceeded to let me know I owed them 35.oo more for something that insurance did not pay I paid it and left pissed off, called my insurance and they said I only owe my copay and that's it, so now I feel I should get a refund. I paid them over $5,000 to get my eyes done they told me that I would be able to see up close with no glasses and I'll be able to see far with no glasses each and everybody I talk to told me the same thing his name is Dr Bradley I had a person to talk with him in this office and he told me it's nothing else they could do about it unless I pay him another $1,000 or 900 cash and he said that would be insurance he sent me to this lady named Amber Rodriguez I went in her office and she tried to get me to do both of my eyes she was very rude she say oh you the one we talk to and the reason she said that was because they told me I'm paying two years with no interest when I got my statement it was $50 more than what it's supposed to be also they are very very rude people if you know anybody could do anything about this but they did with the VA paid them to do but they didn't do what I paid them to do and I don't have any money to get it done I'm very very mad about the situation if somebody know anything that can help please contact me myron.johnson3307@gmail. read more

Forgot my new insurance card but i had all the information in an app and they actually used that to look up my information. They said they still needed the card so I called my daughter to bring it to me. They told me he is running behind so I would need to reschedule because the 15 minutes it would take for my card to get here would make him more behind. HORRIBLE SERVICE AND THEY LIE!!!!!!!!!!! They are pretending that they gave me a trial pair of contacts but they did not. I had to pay for my appointment when I should not have paid at all, Medicaid should have covered it. I can't get reimbursed for paying for the eye exam because they are lying and saying that they gave me a pair of trial contacts when they did not. But they put it in their notes. These people can NOT be trusted at all!!!!!!!!!!!!! They do not care what the patient says and if it is true or not, they only go by what lying notes they have on your account. Not only is Dr. Bradley my ophthalmologist, but I visit the Aesthetic Center routinely for Skin Pen and botox treatments. With as much as I work, I enjoy spending my days off getting these treatments since the girls in the aesthetic center are so personable and fun to visit with. Furthermore, the entire staff is accomodating, and really bend over backwards for their patients. I was very excited when I learned the office made upgrades to start accepting American Express, which my husband and I really appreciated. Oh my goodness, I can see wonderfully well - thank you Dr Bradley. I had cataract surgery on one eye n a few weeks later, a laser treatment on the other eye to remove a film (like seeing through fog). The "film" surgery was yesterday. I was told it may take a few days for vision to gradually clear n could see floaters for a time also. This morning - no film, no floaters. Wow! at 72 my vision is like 20/20. Dr Bradley is, in this patients opinion, a master at his profession with a kind spirit as well. The staff - friendly n helpful. This is the place to go in Lubbock -for sure! Right eye didn't turn out nearly as well. I ended up with "monovision". This is NOT what I was hoping for when I spent thousands extra (not reimbursed by insurance) for the highest tech IOL's that were to give more natural vision and enhanced depth perception. Dr. Matthews is the specialist I didn't know I needed all along. He was very informative and thorough. I learned more about my eyes at this appointment than I had my entire life. I have not received my new contacts yet, but I am excited to get the call to set up my fitting. Not only did he take the time to ensure I was comfortable with the plan I chose, he ensured me that with the warranty option, he will fine tune my custom lenses so that the fit is comfortable and my vision is as clear as possible. I usually leave a doctor's office feeling cheated out of my copay for the 5 minutes the doctor spends on me but not this time. All of the staff was wonderful to top it off. I live in Midland and had to make the two hour drive for this appointment but it was well worth it to end the issues I've been having with being fitted for contacts. I read that Dr. Matthews has performed tiny miracles with his contact lens fittings but honestly I think he is just excellent at what he does and when a patient finally feels cared for and gets the clear vision they want and deserve, well that is the tiny miracle! read more

Dr Bradley gave me my vision back. I had fast growing cataracts. He did surgery on one eye & then the other. I was not prepared for the visual improvement that would follow. Dr Bradley is a caring doctor. I can reach out to him or his staff at any time. They are always willing to answer any questions that I may have. My surgery was 4 years ago & they still treat me as though it were yesterday. I would highly recommend the doctors at West Texas Eye Associates. They were genuinely interested in my well being and ensuring i received wonderful care. Dr. Mathews is my hero. Without him and his wife I would no longer have a driver's license. He expertly answered my questions, and worked nonstop to provide the appropriate equipment needed to maintain my current quality of living. Let me preface my review by first stating that Dr. Bradley and the doctors at West Texas Eye Associates are exceptional and have always provided me and my family with great medical care. My issue is with his billing manager. The level of laziness and incompetence this woman employs is astounding. Every interaction I have had with this woman has left me infuriated and have led me to seek eye care elsewhere. First, I had a balance of $40 on my account, as a student I notified the staff that my address has changed. I was surprised to learn that my $40 balance had been sent to a collection agency. When I incurred as to why I was not notified of my balance the billing manager told me she had sent me a letter (to my old address) notifying me. When I asked why I wasn't given a phone call she stated it "wasn't part of her job to call patients" and that I had to deal with the collection agency to get the balance removed. My second encounter with this woman involved my father's eye surgery, where on the day of the procedure we were notified that we would have to pay $1150 up front and an unspecified anesthesia fee at a later date. Upon asking how much this anesthesia fee Would be, the incredibly adept billing manager emerged to notify us there would be no way of knowing this information ahead of time. When I asked why this information wasn't present, the lady replied "I have never called to find out, you can call if you want to." Which is exactly what I did. It took me 30 seconds to find out the information I needed. I'm not saying that it was such a burden for me to find this information out but as a business and health care service it should be the doctors office's responsibility and simple common courtesy to find such information out for you patients. I have never felt treated with such disrespect by any business, healthcare or not, hence my willingness to type out such a long and angry review, I want fellow customers to know what they are getting into. read more

After being diagnosed with Keratoconus by my Amarillo optometrist, he suggested I contact a Dr. in LA for some innovative surgery that is often done on the movie stars. My wife went to work looking for a closer and maybe less expensive surgeon. That is when she found West Texas Eye Associates in Lubbock. After an exam by Dr. Mathews, he said I did not have Keratoconus but my eye was egg shaped due to a bad RK procedure done several years ago. I had a "T" cut, and over the years had caused a weakness and my eye to become mis-shapened and could not focus properly. He could not correct my vision with glasses because he could not get the lenses close enough to my eye. Conventional contacts would not work because of all the scar tissue from the blotched RK. Dr. Mathews suggested we try "Jupiter " or Scleral lenses, a gigantic lens that sits on the white (Scleral) part of the eye. After meticulous measurements, Dr Mathews was successful in fitting me with a near perfect shaped lens for both eyes. That has been over two years ago and I could not be happier. I wear them 12-16 hours a day with no problems. Dust is seldom a problem because they cover most of my eye. I have 20/20 vision in both eyes, which I have never had in over 50 plus years of wearing contacts or bifocal glasses. Dr. Mathews and staff at West Texas Eye are by far the best in the Texas Panhandle and South Plains area and maybe the whole State of Texas. read more

All their equipment is brand new and the tests they did were fast and painless. I had my first experience with this office today. First of all they dropped the ball on telling me that my insurance company may or may not cover an eye exam through their facility due to them only being able to bill medical and not vision insurance. Then the front desk is extremely understaffed, and the techs are not trained on how to properly answer a phone, so they are no help either. I do not doubt that they may have some very talented Doctors at this facility especially with the eye diseases they specialize in, but the office staff unfortunately does not portray that very well as you walk in the front door. I was told I had to pay $225 for one routine eye exam, that did not include any other services I may encounter along the way. I am having some issues with my eyes, the reason why I chose this facility to begin with, however, had I been told ahead of time that I would be responsible for everything up front, I could have been more prepared. The lack of patient communication made me doubt this facility, and thankfully I found a different office that will do a route eye exam under my vision plan, and then bill my medical if anything comes up, and they were kind enough to explain this all up front to me. So, I would use great caution when contacting this facility for an appointment as their staff is not properly trained and you may not be prepared for what you walk into. I am just glad I didn't pay $450 for me and my daughter for a routine eye exam, when I could have used the insurance plan I pay for to help cover the expense instead. read more
