Sandy Island Beach is a New York state park on the east end of Lake Ontario. It contains the only…read moresignificant freshwater natural sand dunes in the Northeast. Only a small part of the sand is open for use as a beach to the public, since most of it is protected park land. When I went it was not too busy, but it would not take very many people to fill up the beach. The natural dunes are beautiful and the sand is very fine and soft. The swimming area is roped off which restricts how far swimmers can go. The beach goes from smooth sand, to a few feet of slightly uncomfortable rocks where the waves crash, then back to smooth sand underwater. I went swimming and it was a pleasant experience, with 72 degree water in mid-August. The fee was $7 per car for the whole day and there's a decent amount of parking. There are bathrooms and showering facilities.

Also a fun place to skip rocks. It mostly has stones that wash up on the beach, there are plenty of rocks to choose from. The downside of this beach is that it is tiny, dirty, and at least every time I have been here it does not seem very swimmable. You cannot really enjoy a nice walk on the beach because it will be about a 3 minute walk to get to the end. There was a lot of trash scattered about the sand. Lastly the waves have always been pretty big when I have visited and with having stones instead of sand at the waters edge I can imagine it being a rough time. I would not think there is really a good time of year though to swim here or sunbath since it is pretty cold most of the year.

The cabin is private and quiet with an absolutely beautiful view of the lake, and comes with a private outhouse, very nice fire pit and chairs, parking close by, and storage shed with provided firewood and equipment for tennis, pickleball, and frisbee golf. The park is also within an hour of Clayton, Sackets Harbor, and Alex Bay. NOTE: there are no showers on site, we had to go about 20 minutes away to a nearby state park to use their shower facilities. We had an incredible week and would absolutely return here in the future to rent the cabin. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable, private camping experience!

The guy that was ushering us into the go karts was arguing with the girl doing tickets. He kept calling her a c****. Last year, we went once because of this. It wasn't a pleasant experience.

BLACK RIVER TRAIL IS A GREAT PATH TO WALK, RUN OR BIKE…read more=================================================== At the beginning of April 2024 my son and daughter-in-law took my husband and I hiking along this trail a couple times on different days. It's really a nice paved and scenic path along the Black River. If you look at the website it says it is 4.5 miles, but I have a feeling it is much longer. The Black River is pretty long, so it might turn into dirt trails. You can actually walk close to the Black River, but I wouldn't recommend getting in because you might drown or get swept away to who knows where. I read a report recently about someone falling in. Parking: I'm pretty sure we parked at the Trailhead located at E. Rutland Street near Stone Drive. See photo. See the website for more parking locations. A little peace of heaven located in the middle of nowhere…read more There isn't much going on in HH but I can tell you this... you will find some of the best fishing in the world. That's right, the whole blessed world! There are lots of companies you can charter with but after two trips out with Bill Saiff I am now a loyal customer. My family goes out once a year and Bill hires expert guides to find the hot spots in the harbor. The time of year plays a huge role in what you are able to catch and they always know what is hitting. They also have the best gear to monitor the waters and find your record catch. I have seen a 30 pound lake trout and a 36 inch pike get landed (I caught that one!) on my trips. Bill's communication is also outstanding. He will text you before your trip if there are any changes in terms of weather and also returns messages quickly. Bill even brings snacks on the boat. If you are hungry after your fishing adventure he has a restaurant with a decent menu. The company offers Canadian Goose hunting trips as well. Be prepared to arrive early and spend a healthy sum but I assure you Bill Saiff and his knowledgeable mates will provide you a first rate fishing experience. See you on the Harbor!

Bill definitely knew what he was doing and made the day enjoyable for newbies and experienced fishermen alike. As an add-on, Bill took some good photos that made the fish look huge and us look... like we knew what we were doing (?). Like all great captains, he threw in a few funny stories when it got slow. And he shared his celery sticks with me and whistled a lot. Good guy, great service, couldn't have asked for a better charter trip. Perfect day.
