I also want to say I was incredibly impressed by their maintenance man, Kirk. He had redone the home before I rented it and it was done so well! The rental itself was fine. They're built quickly and corners get cut but for 29 Palms these are ok. This is more geared towards the management. 1. Took almost 2 months to get a brand new washer fixed with little to no follow up from management. Frustrating to say the least and just as a FYI there are no laundry mats in 29 Palms. 2. Whoever the new woman is working there (Sandra) could benefit from some email etiquette training. When your primary form of communication is via email it would benefit you to sound remotely professional. 3. Overall the management/owners were unprofessional and rude. I was continually confused about why I was asked to fill work orders out with details that were blatantly not reviewed prior to coming to the unit. Received email warnings about "excess animal waste" outside our unit when we didn't have a pet at the time. There aren't many options in 29 and it seems Western Home Builders seems to be aware of the lack of competition with how unprofessional they are. If you have to deal with them be prepared for some of the most subpar customer service there is and bring your patience because you'll need it. read more

These people put me through an exhaustive application process including showing proof of renters insurance on my current home???? (which I provided) They must have killed an entire forrest printing all the documentation and although I disclosed a potential issue prior to 3 trips to their office....endless emails and redundant communications I gave up trying to figure out who was the decision maker, what was the price? what was included? etc wish I had checked here first and not wasted so much time and effort. My husband got orders to go to 29 palms. We were so stressed out in trying to find a place. I saw a listing from western home builders online and gave them a call. They made the entire process effortless and we were in our new apartment within weeks. They were outstanding w answering all our questions, even about the area. They took a lot of time making sure we were all set. The website was super convenient to put work orders in and they were addressed the next day. They fixed our light bulbs if they went out and changed the batteries for our smoke detectors. They are a super hands on company making sure our needs were met. The ladies in the office make you feel like you are part of the family. They honestly made me feel so welcomed. I recommend them to everyone who is looking to rent a place. Recently stayed in Twentynine Palms. Carren Bitter was a joy to deal with, and took care of us very well. I highly recommend Western Home Builders to anyone. Save yourself the stress and wasted time. DO NOT RENT through them. Take your chances elsewhere. The previous reviews you've read pretty much summarize our experience with them. The management is horrible, and pretty hard to get a hold of. Your chances of winning the lottery are higher than getting a hold of management when they're needed. They require hefty deposits when you move in and THEY WILL TRY TO STEAL EVERY PENNY THAT THEY CAN FROM YOUR DEPOSIT. We rented a furnished apartment through them, and we reported the damages to the carpet, towels and other things upon move in. When we moved out we got charged for the things that we reported, and they also created bogus charges to deduct from our deposit. When we disputed this with them, they were impossible to get a hold of, THEY WILL NOT RESPOND to your EMAIL OR PHONE CALLS. Or they will create excuses as to why they don't respond. They will not provide any proof of damages, and they will not provide legitimate receipts for anything they claimed was damaged. "She's not good with technology" was one excuse for not being able to provide pictures or proof of any damage. It's 2019, if you can't send emails or text messages with pictures then you shouldn't be working anywhere. If you're stuck renting from them TAKE PICTURES and document everything! Also know your renter's rights and CA laws. They will try to take what they can from you. BEWARE! After challenging the many charges that they claimed, a few weeks later we did get some of the deposit refunded. Moral of the story DOCUMENT everything. Take pictures of prior to move in and send them in and take some after. Do not let them inspect the place without you there. all the reviews that aren't 5 star pretty much sum up our experience. We lived here from October 2014- May 2015. They prorated the month we moved in so we only had to pay the portion of the month we lived there. It was a month to month at the 73636 cactus drive apartments. Every time we had a question, concern or malfunction someone was there the same day to help us out. Ex: I bought a rug so they came with a vacuum the same day, the dining room chairs were wobbly and dangerous so they replaced all four in about 30 minutes. Great company!! Fully furnished options!! I've rented with four different rental companies and they were by FAR the best. Thank you so much! read more

My boyfriend was on the marine base for schooling so I moved out to 29 from Indiana for 8 months, my dad happened to see one of the signs for WHB and called, Caren was AMAZING to us. Me, my father, and my cat were all sleeping in our car completely clueless on what to do. Caren got us moved in in 2 days, and even let me take the lease onto base for my boyfriend to review, no one else let us do that, so we were stuck. (He wasn't able to go off base at that time). The apartment was super cute, and very nice size and price. Neighbors were all nice, and felt like a super safe place. I miss it! Will definitely come back to WHB if I find myself in 29 again! read more

We rented a house that was managed by Western Home Builders from 5/2012-3/2015. During most of our stay in this house when there was a maintenance issue it was pretty difficult to get a hold of Kelly (the manager). Now there are more people working there so it is a bit easier. Our biggest problem with them was the unprofessional manner in which our move out was done. A couple days before we were going to move out and all of our belongings were gone we had Karen come do our move out walk through. She did not have our checklist from when we had moved in and we were never given a copy. She looked at the house fast and said everything looked great but she did not have the authority to say if we would get our deposit back. Obviously we were very confused and upset because we wanted our deposit back and didn't see why we wouldn't get it back. We emailed Steve (the owner of Western Home Builders) a couple times about it and he just kept saying he would look into it and get right back to us but never did. We felt like they had no clue what was going on or they just didn't want to tell us. At the absolute last minute after 20 days we got a portion of our deposit back, but $160 was taken out for carpet shampooing. Our lease did not say anything about shampooing our carpets before we left. Also, we were not told of any discrepancies during the walk through that we could fix before we gave the keys in. We lived there for almost 3 years and according to California Department of Consumer Affairs "Normal wear and tear to carpets, drapes and other furnishings cannot be charged against a tenant's security deposit". We have never experienced such unprofessionalism before. read more

The only good thing about this place is that they were able to provide us with a month to month lease until we moved to base housing. The house we rented was to include all utilities and internet but we had issues with the internet being shut off due to them not sending payment after we paid them, the area we were in was full of not only homeless but a lot of drug use and fighting in the streets and we were paying well over what should have been charged for the rent. Upon move out inspection Caren (I wish I had listened to other reviews about her because they are absolutely right! She makes their business bad) had said there was one minor cleaning issue that may have cost us $40 (the stove top racks) but then we discovered a lot more was taken from our deposit. When I tried contacting her asking for more details on what we were charged for she never responded. I highly recommend NOT using Western Home Builders for anything. read more
