The staff at the Manhattan office have been much more helpful and friendly than those I've encountered at the Bozeman location. I will say that one male I spoke with at the Bozeman location was professional and friendly though. My first issue occurred when I needed to utilize roadside assistance on a Friday evening when keys were locked in one of my vehicles and that was a fiasco. The office was closed this late in the day so I had to call a number on the back of my card. They could not find I had coverage with State Farm and it took hours of me waiting in a blizzard in Bozeman to get the vehicle unlocked. I also had to pay 50 dollars which was later refunded back to me. Another issue is that we received a mystery refund of around 40 dollars. We then received a bill for this exact same amount. We contacted State Farm and "Employee 1" told us we did owe it but could not explain why we received a refund and they why they now wanted the money back. This went on for months. I texted her and told her to just take it from my payment method on file. She then charged me over 200 dollars for my fiancé's vehicle which he pays from a separate account... I complained and I felt she tried to blame me for the error, saying that's what she thought I wanted done even though I have texts stating otherwise. Finally, she said the 40 dollars wasn't owed. I still don't know how it took so long to figure this out. Lastly, "Employee 2" was extremely rude to me. I called to try to speak with someone competent about the 40 dollar amount and the erroneous charge to my account. She was trying to rush me off the phone and stated one of the vehicles had moved from 6 month payments to monthly (this wasn't even related to the issue I was calling about). I clarified with her on the call which vehicle and told her I hadn't approved that. I later followed up with her and Employee 1 in an email about this and Employee 2 stated she never told me that! I would like to see a bit more accountability on their end. They will say "oh, that person has been doing this for years and is very knowledgeable." Okay, then I expect a higher quality experience as a customer. At one point I asked someone at the Manhattan office if I could speak directly with Daniel regarding the 40 dollar refund/bill issue before it was resolved and they pretty much said no and that they'd have Employee 1 call me since she had been handling my account. This has been frustrating but no issues the last month or so.

Otherwise, we've pay on time and in full and haven't needed to make a claim. In January during the extreme cold snap we had a pipe burst in our basement. There was a significant amount of flooding and some damage. Luckily, we caught the flooding shortly after the pipe burst and got a remediation company to come out at 7 AM that morning. The remediation company did an amazing job to get to the house quickly and stop the damage. Later that day we filed the claim with State Farm and told them who we had hired. They said we did the right thing and were happy to hear that we got such quick service to prevent further damage. It took three+ weeks for the remediation company to dry out the house and fix the issues. State Farm lowballed the remediation company's invoices and conveniently found a way to come up with an amount that they'd accept that was below our deductible. The claims adjuster was an arrogant prick who refused to negotiate with the remediation company and we ended up having to pay everything out of pocket. The issue is that the remediation company did everything we could have hoped for...they showed up before business hours on the morning of the flood and cleaned up the mess. The claims adjuster was so petty that he even objected to the remediation company's billing for emergency services prior to business hours, then objected to the fact that the company used drying equipment on a soaked rug, etc. There was no way I was going to not pay the remediation company for its work even though State Farm told us to not pay them. That's unethical in our minds. When we really needed the insurance company they basically stabbed us in the back.

    I have to feel passionate about something in order to write a review about it, and that's why prior…read moreto now I've only written reviews about music, movies, hotels and restaurants. I never thought I could feel passionate about an insurance company until my recent experience with Proper Insurance. My wife and I have owned our home in San Diego, California since 1993, and we had our property insurance through Wananesa Insurance the entire time. But when we relocated to Mexico in February 2025, and decided to rent our home as a short term vacation rental, we had to find another insurance company because Wawanesa doesn't provide coverage for short term rentals. Our property manager referred us to Proper and I felt comfortable with them from the beginning. We were staying in our house in San Diego during the month of September, and the night before flying back to Mexico, I was sitting on our living room couch and felt a bump under the area rug. When I lifted up the rug I saw that one of the wooden floor boards was warping and coming up off the floor. I felt around for any dampness but it seemed dry, so I just chalked it up to an old board that was finally starting to warp. But then, the next morning, just as we were about to leave for the airport, I noticed another board coming up. Since I had a plane to catch I asked our property manager if he could contact a flooring company to come out and assess the situation. And by that time there were around twenty boards coming up. The flooring contractor thought that the damage was caused by a leak in the wall between our garage and living room, and that's when I knew that I had to contact Proper and most likely file a claim. The first person I spoke to in the claims department was a woman by the name of Campbell, who was incredibly nice and reassuring, while still being honest that coverage would depend on several factors, such as how long the leak was there and how quickly after discovering it we were filing our claim. Campbell told me that our claim would be assigned to an adjuster, who would be in contact with my by email. By the next day I received a detailed email from our claims adjuster, Dede Martin, who then followed it up with a personal phone call. And again, after speaking with Dede, I felt great and reassured, assuming that what I reported accurately panned out. Dede told me that a field adjuster would go out to the house and assess the damage, and I heard from that adjuster the very same day. A few days later Dede contacted me with the field adjuster's report and said that Proper would be covering all of the damages and repairs, less my twenty five hundred dollar deductible. But because the field adjuster's estimates were higher than what the flooring company and contractor who repaired the drywall quoted me I was actually fully compensated. I brought this to Dede's attention, and I believe her reply was that I still might end up incurring more expenses that haven't yet accounted for. Beyond reimbursing us for the repairs, Dede said that Proper would reimburse us for lost income from rental cancellations, and for any "potential" loss of income due to our rental listing being suspended until the repairs were completed. This "potential" loss of income would be based on our rental income for the same time period last year, but since we didn't list the house for rent until April of this year we didn't ask for any of that reimbursement. I requested Proper to deposit the insurance proceeds into my checking account with Chase Bank. However, because both mine and my wife's names are on title to our house we needed a joint checking account, which we didn't have. So I had Proper send the check to our daughter in San Diego, thinking she could sign the check over to herself and deposit it into her account. But the bank wouldn't accept it. I contacted Dede again, and explained my predicament and how desperate I was to get these funds into my bank account by direct deposit. As always, she was incredibly understanding and apologetic. But more importantly she reached out to Proper's accounting department and convinced them to make an exception and do a direct deposit into my account. They just needed an email from my wife saying that she was in agreement with this. In closing, my recent experience with Proper, and especially with Dede Martin has been exceptional! So much so that I'm now convinced that I can be as passionate about an insurance company as I am about music, movies, restaurants and hotels! I never would believed it!

The team at Bethany Lentz's office made me feel right at home and quickly took down my information and, to my surprise, gave me quotes right away on the phone and also made coverage recommendations I had never thought of before to help me save money. Samantha was AWESOME and super personable as we worked together to build a package of coverage that saves me money! She actually called me *just before they opened* to make sure I got good service. Honestly, who does this anymore? The 1-star reviewer here didn't get the assignment. "Horrible communication"? What? Did you actually speak to someone to resolve things when you first learned something might not be right? Like, it's your local insurance agent, not the IRS. It's crazy easy to call and get superior help anytime -- which is my personal and honest experience here.
