Upon returning home, we discovered what appeared to be bed bug bites, raising serious concerns about the condition of our room. I sent three emails to the property, called the front desk, and even contacted Choice Hotels corporate customer service. Corporate informed me that this was a property-level issue that local management needed to address. Despite all of my efforts, no one from the hotel has contacted me to acknowledge my concerns, explain whether the room was inspected, or tell me what, if anything, was done. What is most frustrating is not only the potential bed bug concern, but the complete lack of accountability. A simple phone call or email explaining the findings or the steps taken would have shown that management cares about its guests. Instead, I have been ignored. Bed bug concerns should always be taken seriously, and guests deserve timely communication and transparency. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend staying here. The property was relatively quiet and had a good breakfast. The breakfast attendant was amazing and helped make the trip enjoyable.

I called the front desk and gently told them about this, which I'm sure they knew as the dogs were just outside the entrance. OK, they would mention it to those people. Quiet for a few minutes...then louder barking than ever. I waited a bit, then called to ask them to do something about it. This guy's suggestion was for us to get out of bed and he would put us in a different room. I suggested he move the other people, since they had the dog. Then...nothing. I realized HE HUNG UP ON ME. Wow, Hampton, your standards have really gone under. My husband was gonna go down and give them his opinion, but after about 15 more minutes, it got quiet outside. On this trip, I became a gold member, which means nothing to me anymore. There will be some long, hard thinking before staying at a Hampton again soon, and it will NEVER be at this one in Deming, NM. Dirty, unfriendly...all the things you don't need on a trip halfway across the US.

It was a very long drive, but I did have 3 stops along the way which averaged to 3 hours of drive time per stop. I try not to spend too much time at each stop unless I'm shopping for plush toys for my daughters which I did on a few occasions LOL. Anyway, back to this review, check-in was fast and easy. Just needed to show my ID. Staff was friendly and pleasant. Got some information about the hotel amenities and free continental breakfast times. Got my room key and I was on my way to a good cold shower and some peaceful sleep LOL. I was fortunate to get a 1st floor room. It was big and spacious with a king size bed. It also had a big desk, TV, microwave, and small frig. The bed was comfortable, but something about their clumpy pillows... they need to replace the pillows for better head support. The other thing that I didn't care for was the lingering musky smell of the shower curtains. Just wasn't pleasant. Luckily, I was only there for one night and just needed one shower LOL. Otherwise, I would have asked them to change the curtains. Continental breakfast was decent. They have the waffle machine to make fresh waffles. They had bagels, muffins, cereal, yogurt, hardboiled eggs, apples, OJ & apple juices, etc. I just went for the raisin bagels (this was really good... it doesn't take too much to please me... just be the real deal LOL) and OJ (this was okay). Check-out was fast and easy. Just turned in the room key and left. Now that I think about it, the staff didn't print out any bill statement for me. Room was already paid for so I guess that's okay. Those two employees were the highlight of the hotel staff. The mixed: Breakfast was okay, not great -- standard options, nothing terrible, nothing memorable. The negatives: Night two, the trainee from the first evening returned and her behavior was noticeably different -- overly talkative, erratic, and unprofessional. Nothing dangerous, but it did affect the atmosphere and made interactions awkward. This wasn't enough to affect safety or the overall stay, but it's worth noting. Summary: Rooms are solid, facilities are fine, and two members of the staff were genuinely excellent. Because of my bad shoulders, and my room was upstairs (no elevator, ugh!), the desk clerk helped bring my luggage upstairs, which I thought was very thoughtful of him. And, when I went to give him a tip, he turned it down! And the next morning, the same guy was on shift, and he helped me get my luggage to the car. And again, did not accept a tip! I had parked right in front of the lobby in order to check in, and unload my luggage, which was a red zone. So when I went to move my car, the clerk told me that I could leave it there. However, the driving instructor in me couldn't handle that. Haha. But he did let me park my car in front of the low brick work, which is still right in front of the lobby. Now I don't mind the carpet being a bit messy, as overall the room is very clean and tidy. But, the bed is firmer than I would like (a decent nights' sleep). The A/C works well. Though, the cycling on/off is a bit noisy. Now, this will bother some people, but not others. While I enjoy having the A/C blow directly on me while driving, and after working outside, I don't like it blowing on me while I'm trying to sleep). And, there was no way to deflect it, except for bringing the sheet all the way up. At present it is still daylight, so I don't know what effect outside lighting will have on the room. But if I need to add anything, I will edit the review tomorrow. Several of the electrical outlets are loose. Either the receptacle would push in, when I try to plug in something. Or, was so loose that the slightest tug would dislodge my cell phone charger. Other than the carpet, the noisy cycling of the A/C and a little bit of mildew in the grout of the shower tiles, the place is really very nice, and quiet! And, the night time view with a room, was night time! The water in the bathroom was nice and hot and the pressure was pretty good too. However, I was surprised that there were no grab bars in the shower. Edit 1: Well, I'm glad I'm not here for the view. While I do overlook the courtyard and pool, I also have a great view (sarcasm intended) of the roof of the restaurant kitchen. Edit 2: Forgot to mention the Wi-Fi. While I'm use to using it at home, to help save bandwidth on my cell phone bill, I don't use it very often in the field... However, the Wi-Fi here was very reliable, and imo very fast. At no time, did the connection drop. Nor, was connecting an issue.

Worth every penny plus more. Cass greeted us warmly and got us into our room very quickly. About ten minutes later she brought me some cooling aloe for my sunburn. I can't say I've ever been treated so thoughtfully from a front desk attendant in my life. I also loved the neon sign out front but a few of the letters were burnt out. This place is charming and friendly and I would recommend it to all travelers. Will definitely stay here again the next time I'm passing through.
