Come here 4th of July for fireworks! Totally worth it! Came here that night and it was a blast for my family. PROS: 4th of July -- If come early, you can reserve space on the grassy areas to see the fireworks. Bring your own chairs or bring a picnic blanket! Which areas? I'd say the one next to the food stand. You'll be seeing the fireworks where the Sky Ride starts. The firework show itself is crazy long! Like a good 15 minutes of firework entertainment. You'll being saying "Woooow", "Whhhoooaa", "Cooool", "O wooow niiiicce" the whole time! Lol. And just to warn you, it's long enough that you're neck will start to hurt! No pain, no gain right?! Definitely worth it. You don't even need to ride the rides to see such a worth it show to $5 of admission. Just hang out with your fam. Totally would recommend going here for fireworks. Rides -- Rides are exciting! Although not big rides compared to Six Flags and other popular parks, but still great rides to get that THRILL! Most favorite ride during a really hot summer day, the water ride! You will get SOAKED! But then dry off once you get out because it's an oven out there! You can also get splashed. The Sky Ride is great for leisure and to see the park from above. Relaxing and FREE. No fee! Definitely a must-do when you're at the park. The kiddy rides are cute...my niece totally enjoyed her time. The rides are definitely a win with your little munchkins. CONS: 4th of July -- Came about 3 hours before the fireworks (show at 9:30pm), and the line for admission was LONG! The line went all the way across the parking lot!!! Although, the pace was constant, so not too bad, but daunting. PARKING was INSANE. You either need to be lucky to find a spot in the front, otherwise, there is parking at the back dirt lots. Lines are very very long for the popular rides...at least 30 minute waits. It's crowded for sure in the entire park. Food -- you're normal amusement park food to choose from, but my nachos had stale chips. Boo. Pricey as always. Anyway, good place to go for some amusement park fun. Bring your chairs and umbrella if you're just gonna chill. They got not issue bringing your picnic gear. It's a great park for good ol' fun, even if you've been here many times. I read a ton of reviews prior to my visit so I knew what to expect coming in. This isn't six flags, so don't go in with that mindset and I think if you do you'll enjoy your visit. Several people told me it's like a permanent fair and I would agree with that. We got there right at 5 o clock on a Saturday night and stayed for about 4 hours total. We rode everything with the exception of a few rides that were down or just didn't catch our interest, all had minimal wait times. My favorite was the ski lift type ride, we went on it twice...I recommend going right at sunset for beautiful views! We had several snacks, pretzel, churros and lemonade and we thought they were all very tasty and well priced. I really enjoyed my time there and a lot of the rides made me feel very nostalgic (Himalaya for example was always my county fair favorite!) overall my little family had a blast and I would recommend going! read more

IF YOU READ THIS DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY- I was sold tickets last minute during a promotional event and instead of telling me the park was closing earlier than usual they sold me tickets 2 min before closing and refused to refund me, They said to come back tomorrow on the last day of the promotion but you can't expect people to come back the next day. Just say your closing early use some common fukin sense.Forgot to mention I paid cash and didn't use up their tickets so they could've easily just done a return. read more

While the food was subpar, the rides were great for a family filled Sunday. The purpose of an amusement park is to make you feel excited, amused... the park closed at a de Kent hour but the sun set around 730ish and not a single light was on in the park. Making it look grim and eerie. That is until you were start struck by the Loco 360 being run by Ayden. He was the only person whose ride less fully lit, and let me tell you the picture doesn't do it justice. It was a great experience for the parents and children involved all while the other rides were dark and sad. Overall not too bad a place for a family fun filled day. read more

Well well where do I begin. We made the voyage to check this place out on Father's Day. We arrived at 5:30pm and we still had about 3 and half hours before closing time. The employees working the ticket stands were very friendly. Each adult ticket runs at about $21 for unlimited rides. We walked on in and it was not at all busy. There is a small section for little kids, a huge water slide where you WILL get wet, about three coasters, bumper cars, and about 6 more attractions. They also have an outdoor arcade and concession stands. The rides are fun and felt like I was riding rides at my local fair. The rides were more of the types of attractions that you see at state fairs. We went around the whole thing once in about 2 hours and we were pooped.. We spent $21 on each ticket, $5 for two water bottles, $20 in arcade games, and $2 for a stale churro. They definitely need more rides and maybe upgrade the ones they have now. All of them are rusty looking!! Do take hand sanitizer with you! Thank me later. It's an ok park, it ain't no six flags or knots berry farm, so don't go in thinking this is what this amusement park is! read more

I am an El Paso native, also lived in Sunland park, this park sucks that's all I have to say. THE OWNER NEEDS TO STEP IT UP!!

Before we arrived we made reservation online due to COVID of course. Reservations was a 4 dollar fee online. Got there, parked, made it to the front desk and it first for an adult ticket and a 5 year old everything came up to be 50ish bucks just to get in but with a military discount is only paid 40ish bucks. I received a wrist band for myself and my kid which grant us access to every single ride in that park. They have rides for all ages...i repeat ALL AGES! Such a disappointment not even trying to compare this "amusement park" to other sites or meccas; however, simply the old location at Ascarate Park. The rides are in need of some major, tender love and I honestly don't understand the safety issue on some of them. The pricing is fair and adequate with what you'll be receiving. When we were kids, going to the original Western Playland at Ascarate was a real treat. Even though we now live hundreds of miles away, bringing our kids each May was a fun tradition they all looked forward to. The newer location at Sunland Park was a difficult transition, but now we return each May with our grandchildren and it gets better each year. The landscaping is filling in, making the grounds more welcoming, and the price isn't bad at all. For $25, you can ride as many times as you want. While there aren't hundreds of rides, there are plenty to keep any age entertained for hours. And for the kids in the "sweet spot" (not too tall for kid rides, not too small for larger rides), you can't beat the fun. The smiles are WELL worth the price. We have found that Western Playland is a far better value than those big parks that charge a ridiculous amount of money to get in and only offer massive roller coasters. If you want the thrill of the crazy coasters this place isn't for you. If you want a variety of fun rides for all, you will enjoy it. read more

Pros: Each ride attendant was very alert and seemed to be willing to get the ride going quick and safe. I asked one of the ride attendants if he had ever met the owner, and said he did, and mentioned a BBQ lunch they bought for everyone. Glad to hear they take care of their people. Parking is easy in -easy out and its free - for now. Staff is friendly and good at acknowledging you are at least there. Cons: NO SHADE. Its brutal, compared to the Ascarate Park days but I guess thats the trade-off for new economic growth. Its cement and gravel everywhere so bring your shades and hat and expect to not be as comfortable as A.Park used to have. Weeds and sad landscaping adorn this trying-to be an amusement park - yuck. Rides - same as they were 25+ years ago, nothing outstanding except for recent carnival-type rides. Missing: The waterfall and tunnel on the train ride, go-karts (nearby Bob-O's has them for decent price), haunted house - anyone remember the skeleton playing the piano? (burned down at former location but was always a big draw), Ferris wheel (how can you have an amusement park without a ferris wheel?, even the local traveling carnies have a mobile unit!), The Big Cheese (where is this loud and rowdy ride!?) Log ride - this is a generic version with just an up/down get in/out ride. (shame), Himalaya - where is that crazy long haired rocker that used to jam Van Halen!? now, its a timmid 16 year old running the show that wants to jam out to Miley Cirus. (come on man!) There are no walking people in animal costumes (was always great to run-into a character), Summary: Its out of range for the price, especially since the owners received such a tremendous tax break to relocate to New Mexico and no real NEW rides have been added to the fold except for one or two. Its all the same, but you pay more and have to drive to the boonies. The food (concesions) are not cheap either so make sure to take the kids on a full stomach. For what we have in the region, it will suffice (for now), but know that it paves the way for a competitor to come swipe marketshare any time.Recent market drivers also include (Bob-Os and Adventure Zone).Seems like owners think they are the only game in town today. Just ask 6 flags how that methodology worked out for them. read more

I lived in El Paso from 2001 to 2017. I was able to visit the park several times when it was at Ascarate Park in El Paso, TX. It was way better in Ascarate than now in New Mexico; there was at least shade around. The way I heard it was that the park wanted to expand, as well as receive some much needed tax breaks from the city, and The City of El Paso in its infinite greed and corruption, denied them. This incited a game of "Chicken," where Western Playland promptly showed them they weren't bluffing and left to Sunland Park, NM. That said, today it is pretty much all the same rides (just older and beat up), no notably, exciting expansions, and in fact they actually made detrimental changes to the park, ruining the nostalgia for many people. Recommendations: -Wear and take sunscreen - YOU WILL NEED IT! Take a big, shady umbrella with you, it will come in handy, I promise. -Eat food, be full right before arriving at Western Playland. Everything there is to eat in the park is just as overpriced as their admission tickets. -Drink LOTS of water! Dehydration is a killer! -Don't worry about getting wet in the hot season--the heat will dry you out fast. -Be prepared for popular rides to have up to 30 minute wait times. Why? Because THERE ARE AREN'T ENOUGH REPEATABLE OR INTERESTING ATTRACTIONS IN EL PASO OR SUNLAND PARK, and even worse, none for at least a 2-hour drive minimum in any direction. Be glad I can't rate an entire city on Yelp....but that's what Trip Advisor is for! HA! -Lastly, remember, do NOT expect a Six Flags, Knotsberry Farm, Kings Dominion, Magic Kingdom, Busch Gardens....you get the idea. Expect it to be no different than a carnival/fair that came to town and your expectations won't be ruined. You CAN have fun here as long as you go with a positive attitude and don't expect too much! read more

$5 to get in and $2 per ride or $18 for admission and unlimited!! So there aren't very many rides here, but the ones that they do have (that I went on) were lots of fun! Being so hot (upper 90s), of course we HAD to go on the Typhoon. The most simple of rides! Get on a boat, put the safety bar down, go up, then come splashing down as a wall of water surrounds you!!! A good amount of water gets into the boat and onto each victim riding it, so it makes for an awesome ride on a hot day! You can also stand in the splash zone on the way to the exit and catch a ton of water coming at you from the following boats. We went on the Hurricane and the other big rollercoaster. Both had pretty intense moments and were quite exhilarating! The Yo-yo isn't as relaxing as I thought it was going to be, but it was a good surprise! The Roundup was also very unexpectedly intense! It felt like we were spinning forever! And you don't realize that the platform is starting to tilt until you look around! I enjoyed that the carousel had those baby horses for the babies to ride! It was so cute to see that. The train and the people mover is free for everyone. It seems like most people just get the $18 all you can ride wristband, so a lot of the times, they didn't ask for our ride tickets. We got to ride probably 3-4 rides without giving them our tickets. The one bad thing was that they charge for ice water....tap water!! $1 for a paper cup with tap water.... Still, I had a great time and it was cheap! Didn't get a chance to play the Waterballoon Wars game, but it sure looked like a lot of fun! Who wouldn't love to slingshot waterballoons at someone else?! read more

This quaint mini amusement park located in New Mexico was a delight to experience. It is small enough to allow older children the freedom to roam without worries. The food is adequate, as far as amusement park/carnival fare goes. Pricing is affordable, with an all access bracelet pass for only a little over $21 per person. But if you don't want to ride the rides, General admission is only $5. The kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the freedom hey were able to experience with their friends. read more

When I was a kid, 30 yrs ago I thought that western playland was the best. It was in a different location then, but as got older I knew this place sucked. Then they moved to Sunland Park and took their 40yr old rides with them. Their is no shade, the rides are antiquated and it just sucks!! Too bad you can't give half stars. read more

Been in El Paso since 2002, been coming here since 2011 with our kids. I don't expect much and Western Playland is great for the kids, but much hasn't changed since 2011. I know everything is expensive, but one new rollercoaster, doesn't seem like anything else has been updated. New paint, new lights, more light, and do something around the train ride. Spruce it up some little things make all the difference. read more

For the price the kids will have fun. Basically fair rides with a couple small coasters. It is not like a Six Flags or Cedar Point but it won't cost you $100 each person only about $20 for unlimited rides. Nice environment and well taken care of park. My family had a fun day there. read more

Two stars. The price is not bad for some good games. The fact that I would have enjoyed this place AS A KID. Seriously, why not make better rides, rides that are also fun for adults? I may as well go to the county fair because that's what it is. If you guys want me to give you 5 stars, improve this place, make better rides then that one lame rollercoaster, and make it be known for in El Paso.
