My experience with Dr. Shaw has been nothing less than wonderful... he's an amazing surgeon and had to perform surgery on my right knee, in 2014... now my left knee is acting up and he's on top of it... he explained to me that due to insurance requirements, we have to go through certain steps, which I thoroughly understand... I hurt my knee and the doctors and staff at Westfield Ortho went above and beyond to help me get back on feet (literally)! The front desk was very accommodating and helped me in the office with the chair lift outside. Dr. Krell was very knowledgeable, and I would recommend him to all of my friends and family. I appreciated the time he and Dr. Shaw took with me each time I was in their office. I did not ever feel rushed, and they listened to me and my concerns regarding getting back to playing hoops in the men's league. Dr. Krell and Dr, Shaw are experts in orthopedics, and I will continue to use them in the future when the need arises. I cannot thank you all enough. read more

Have you ever been to one of those doctors that tries to nickel and dime you to death with multiple appointments? If so this is one of them! Avoid at all cost! They shamelessly use all the excuses in the world, such as these that they gave me... "that's not my specialty, you have to come back to see another doctor on another day"; "sorry, we only treat one symptom per appointment". I was pretty straightforward with the office when I made the appointment saying that I want all of my injuries addressed (shoulder, hip, knee and ankle), even after saying that when I made the appointment, upon my arrival they insisted I return to see another physician! Really?! Needless to say I asked them to refund my co-pay, which they gladly did. A co-pay refund only proves that I was right and they were wrong. They had the money, why would you want to return someone's co-pay? This painful experience costed me 2.5 hours. 45 minutes to drive there each way, 55 minutes waiting for the doctor to see me (even though I had appointment) and 5 minutes for the doctor to see me. There are many orthopedics in every city I would not recommend this one, ever. read more

Extremely disappointed with the service I received from Dr. Shaw. I came to the office with two separate issues, that could be connected, was only evaluated for one, was told doctor doesn't have time to address the second one. Unfortunately treatment for the first issue didn't work either. Office is old, no digital x-rays, therefore you can't have original x-rays released, since the office requires to retain them. read more

Very disappointed in the practice, and particularly Dr. Shaw. I came in for knee pain. He barely examined me, and when he asked how the injury occurred and I began to answer, he rudely cut me off and asked me a non-essential question ("Why do you like to run? What races do you do?"). I tried to steer the conversation back toward my pain and what could be causing it, but he repeatedly cut me of and seemed completely disinterested in identifying why. He threw out any number of reasons and said I'd be getting a cortisone shot. I insisted he review my X-ray with me. He did so hastily and reluctantly, and his sarcasm was very unbecoming of a medical professional. I left without getting the shot, as I have no confidence in this provider. If I truly need it I will get it from someone else. I was also very surprised to learn that the practice refuses to provide a disc of X-ray imaging. They offered a photo copy - I kid you not - for $20, that another doctor may or may not be able to interpret. They said I could come back and "sign out" MY X-rays for a $50 deposit, take it to another provider, and bring it back to them that day. When I asked why they had any interest in keeping imaging that my insurance company is paying for, when I have zero interest in returning, they said the images are their property. I asked what interest they have in that property once a patient decides not to come back, and they could not answer. read more

Stay away. First visit I waited almost 2 hours to see a rushed Dr who immediately jabbed me with a Third cortisone shot in my elbow and clearly did NOT hear me and what I was saying. The only thing I appreciate is the PT that he recommended. The next time I went in, he wanted to give me a FOURTH SHOT of cortisone and I said NO. He was all ready to go and had the nurse coming in ready to shoot me up again. He seemed sad I said NO. He started talking about surgery and the process and experimental procedures not covered under insurance...so I asked "what about prescribing some anti inflammatories?" Because I got that advice from my PT! He begrudgingly prescribed me meds. The FINAL STRAW is my 3rd appt was made, I got a call from the office saying that he had a family emergency and had to reschedule. I called back and was told by the office staff they can take me now, Because what happened is that they were overbooked. THEY LIED! I get that things get overbooked but WHY in this day and time would you say a family emergency?! I was SO DONE! I got a new dr in a BETTER practice who said more than 2 cortisone shots can damage my tendon and he prescribed the meds that I had asked Krell for THE FIRST TIME AND HE SAID NO...I was also finally able to get an MRI. Between the office staff lying, the doctor seriously not listening and the overall, almost malpractice Dr Krell is running, I am SO THANKFUL TO NEVER GO BACK. read more

It is beyond absurd that my employer's HR department is contacting me because they cannot get in contact with this facility. A request was sent to this office for my medical records and for an extension form to be completed and returned for my short-term disability over a week ago. They spoke to Maryanne, Dr. Shaw's nurse, last week to follow up and she stated that they were in the process of getting all the information finalized. HR calls me yesterday and says that they have not sent in the medical information and ask me if I have any paperwork or, if not, could I get in contact with the office to remind them that they still need to send it. I am told by Maryanne that I need to speak with Lex, as she is the person who handles the paperwork. I leave a message for her at 2:06pm and ask her to return my call so that we can touch base because it is not the only form that they have failed to submit as it currently stands. I also sent her an email which may or may not be seen but was worth a shot. I gave them until they closed for the day at 7:30pm to respond. So, in a little over 5 hours, no one has bothered to contact me. In following up with my case worker at HR, she also could not get in touch with this facility today. While the associates at this office neglect to submit this crucial information and refuse to respond, I am not receiving any income during my time out of work. Not only have they failed to acknowledge my employer, but they have also failed to submit documentation for the extension of my state disability. The blatant negligence when it comes to communication with clients is this facility's largest downfall. It has been a consistent issue since day one and I am forced to fight every time to get someone's attention. And it is unfortunate because a doctor could be at the top in their field and offer the best treatment for a patient, but when their staff behave in this manner where they must be hounded for days just so they'll fax a form, it forces people to seek out other medical professionals. For anyone reading this, I wish you a better experience than I have had with this establishment. read more

I've been to this office many times because I have active children who get injured a lot. The Doctors are great but I don't understand why they keep their current support staff employed. They can't even handle simple scheduling or billing tasks and always seem way too busy to talk to the patients waiting for their assistance. read more
