After calling around to a few other local bowling alleys with no luck finding an open lane earlier this week, we checked with Westgate Bowl on the recommendation of a friend. The employee on the phone said they had open bowling with open lanes available, so our group of six headed up to Alpine to Westgate Bowl. There are a lot of lanes at Westgate Bowl - I think up to 60! For our group of six playing two games on two lanes, it was around $55 on a weeknight, not too bad. There were a lot of league teams playing so it was a fun, boisterous evening but not so loud that you had to shout at your friends to be heard. The lane technology seemed to work pretty well for us throughout our time bowling. They have bumpers on each lane but we opted to not use those - luckily we all did pretty well without them, haha. There was a kid on a lane near us who was using one of those bowling assisters - it was shaped like a dragon! I'd never seen one like that and I thought it was so fun. The bowling alley has a full bar, a snack bar, a poker room, and an arcade. We ordered some food while we were there - a cheese pizza and chicken tenders basket. The pizza was big and fed all six of us. It was super hot and fresh when it came to our table. It wasn't anything special but it filled us up. The chicken tenders were ok, the fries were not great. I wouldn't come here on an empty stomach, but the food is fine for snacking on. Pitchers of Coors Light were $10. The facility was pretty clean and well-kept, and the employees we interacted with were friendly and polite. I'd say this is my new go-to bowling spot! I like that it's bigger than the other bowling alleys closer to downtown with easy and ample parking. Totally worth it to me to drive a bit out of town to have a more convenient experience. read more

I'm not sure what happened but hope that today's experience was abnormal. Judging by the 2.1 star rating this doesn't seem to be out of place. To sum it up incompetence and a total disregard for the customer experience is the story here. It's hard to tell if employees didn't care about running people through and punching tickets or if they were just untrained. In reality they are probably slow playing you since you pay per hour and not per game. The slow service and experience is probably designed to bleed your time on your lane. It took 15-20 minutes to get a drink when there is 3 people in front of you that are just getting a pitcher of beer. In short my wife and I payed $110 dollars (just for ourselves) out of a group of 4 on our lane. Here is what we got - 2 games (we have our own balls and shoes), 2 beers, a cocktail, and a pizza. The only redeeming qualities of the experience was we had good company and the pizza was pretty tasty! The current business model definitely does not have the customer as the focus, it felt like the entire focus was about grabbing as much $$$ as they could without a thought of the customer. Just left a very sour taste in the mouth at the end of the day. I don't have any plants to return for a while. Going back to pay per game may be a good start so it doesn't feel like a bad subscription based service. It would be like paying for 18 holes of golf but they only give you 3 hours to play them otherwise you'd be asked to exit the facility regardless of where you are. Beware of Jordan Hill and Ana thompson. The staff at Westgate bowling gave our credit card away without giving us a receipt and disputing our purchase. The staff was extremely rude and disrespectful and clapped at my face. Do not trust these people with your credit card. read more

This place is great for birthdays. The staff is polite and willing to help you with anything you need so quickly.

We loved this place. I'm guessing 60-ish lanes, great arcade, good, and lots of people there having fun. The scoring system was super easy and they only charge you by the game (which is my preference) and the bar staff was very present and helpful. I would come back here again and again. I've never had more trouble with computers, customer service, or courtesy from a bowling alley in my life. The first time we had trouble, the attendant said he couldn't hear me reporting a bumper had gone down and hung up on me (he did come fix it after I went up and asked him to--no he didn't come check. Afterwards, he all but scolded us for accidentally knocking it down.) The second time we had an issue, it took about 10 minutes just to talk to them about the reset not working. Third time even though we paid for enough games, one of our lanes were cut off mid-5 or 6th frame. The last time, both of our lanes were cut off at the tenth frame. According to the attendant we underpaid. Which, well technically true in hindsight, it happened because he divided the first two games incorrectly, so that one lane had more time than the other. When I asked what I needed to pay for all of us minus one person to play one more game (the one we wouldn't be able to finish) he told me what I owed. I paid it. When I went up to ask why we all couldn't finish this third game, he said he didn't know what the problem was and walked away from me. I went back up and asked again since it didn't seem he'd be helping us out. He ended up blaming us for doing something wrong with the computers at the lanes and then immediately grew angry that I was even questioning the process! I don't work there or even pretend to get how the payment system works. But I'm pretty sure most places work by telling me what I owe for what I want/ask for, I pay it, and then I get what I asked for. If not, it's not my fault. And I'm REALLY sure that entering names on the screen so my family can bowl, doesn't cause all the games to get messed up. If you go here... just make sure the attendant actually knows how to work the computer. I would rather just go elsewhere instead. Sorry everyone else who works there... but I want to go to a bowling alley to bowl and have fun. Not try to understand and monitor the actions of its employees. Oh yeah... and how much would fixing his mistake cost the alley???? Two whole dollars... which, for the sale of transparency, I would have gladly paid had the situation and service been handled better by the attendant. As it was we opted to keep our 2 bucks and leaving without finishing or 10th frames. PS after we decided to leave, another group approached us and seemed to have had pretty much the same quality experience as us. read more

I would advise against coming here. We had 8 bowlers and asked for 2 lanes. The guy at the front counter refused because he said there was a wait. That made sense at first. We then asked for him to turn on the red wings game and once again he refused. 5 of 6 lanes next to us were vacant for 45 minutes and we asked again if he could split us up. He again, refused. I am assuming he is the manager, but he is simply a jackass on a power trip. This place gets a 0 for customer service. read more

Friendly, helpful staff. The Lanes were in great shape, the auto scoring system worked perfectly, fun graphics on the tv screens. The bathrooms were Clorox-fresh. Bowlers R separated by a lane, masks are worn, hand sanitizer available. Westgate is doing a great job complying with the lockdown rules that dont make sense from one business to the next. Please Support local businesses! They have some ridiculous "hoops" to jump thru in order to remain open. read more

Took the family there to have a fun saturday night. The staff was rude at best. There was a little kids assistant platform on our lane when we arrived. I ask to have it removed and one of the 3 people behind the counter said " if you want it removed you need to take it down to the other end of the lanes where they are stored". First bowling prices are outrageous anymore so when we spent what we did I at least expect some kind of customer service. A bowling alley lost in time without a clue. This bowling alley looks fantastic from the outside, new and updated...then you walk inside. This bowling alley still has equipment from the 90's and it shows. We stopped in while in town for Cosmic Bowling and it was THE MOST disappointing Blacklight/ Cosmic Bowling ever! The sound system was horrible and then all the sudden the music stopped.... They were actually running it all from the pay for jukebox! So you not only are paying an additional amount for cosmic bowling, but you are paying for garbage sound and tunes. When I say bad sound I mean all you could hear of 1/2 the songs was the bass and it wasn't a hard bass either. Just enough to drown out the lyrics and other instruments. It was not loud at all either!! The lighting was not dark enough and totally killed the mood. The Animations reflected something from 3D0 video game system... The only redeeming factor was that the drinks were mixed very well *kudos to the bartender* and the Pizza was good. read more

By far the worst bowling alley I have ever been to. Staff is nice however owners or managers really hamper their ability. On a busy Saturday afternoon they had three people running the entire bowling alley. Took 20 minutes just to get 4 sodas because the bar cannot sell pitchers of soda anymore. This has to be the dumbest rule ever. No problem getting a pitcher of beer but if you bring several kids you have to go the the concession stand and spend $2.50 per cup. What a ripoff, they even charge you for a glass of water. I really wish this place would change ownership because it is a very nice place to bowl. read more

Half the place was open lanes, yet they made us wait 5' away from the counter to wait till they could give us one of the 30 of 60 lanes they wanted to use on a Saturday night. They didn't even have an intercom so they could take our name and let us go more than 10 feet away. Not to mention the guy at the counter was a prick, I thought he was joking around with a dry sense of humor, but he was dead serious. Now on to the wait staff and food. We had a server that was polite but definitely not the greatest. Now this is to say that after we decided to get food and drinks ourselves we discovered why she seemed incompetent, it was actually the wait staff at the (what we'll call a kitchen) and the bars. It took about 20 mins to get two orders of frys. In and of which, someone from the group had wait (again) 5' away. And I have no idea why they won't give water in a pitcher. Next time I'm going to the Clique on the west side. Much better place. Not even a joke. I've never seen a guy with neck tats and wife beater in March when it's 15° outside there. read more

Wonderful family place for bowling - NOT! The manager (dark haired guy wears black rimmed glasses) waited 15 minutes to midnight to tell us that kids have to leave. OH AND we have three half full pitchers of beer... mind you we arrived at 10PM and paid for two games for 5 kids and 8 adults, you would think you might have a sign stating this or tell us "hey you only have two hours to bowl those two games" NOPE! RUINED a summer fun filled night! Thanks westgate bowling alley. You might want to add a sign that stated this "policy" when you allow another family with a young kid (younger than our kids) to allow to bowl while you ask us to leave!! Your "free passes" are bullshit! It's pretty easy to see that you and your staff just want to go home, change your hours or think about posting a damn sign. read more

The facility is nice, modern equipment, and all seemed to work. What didn't work was the clear distain the employees and manager on duty have for the owners. Slack bar (not a typo) is horrid. Couldn't get 1/2 the items on the menu "you should tell the owner to order more food next time" was the response from staff and manager. Likely not going to return. I'll take my family roller skating next time. At least the employees can pretend they work in a family FUN center. read more

Doesn't even deserve the 1 star but 0 stars isn't an option. Apparently if you're inexperienced bowlers who just want to have fun and prefer to use the bumpers its the end of the world. They walked over and kicked our bumpers down in the middle of a game. We asked why and were rudely told "because you're adults". The workers there think they're some kind of hard security guards and swore at us, and tried to fight one of our friends. Kept turning our games off in the middle of them. How you get on such a power trip as a dude in your 20's in a wildcats Jersey working at a hole in the wall bowling alley is beyond me. My 1 year old niece would've been a faster bartender than the one there. These people act like this is a prestigious professional bowling club and not just an old bowling alley people come to for a good time. Trash place and everyone who works here are clearly at their peaks in life. read more

We went bowling on Saturday evening around 5pm. Not even 50% of their lanes were in use, so alot of open lanes. The guy working the counter said he had no open lanes and walked away. Finally flagged somebody else over and asked for the manager. Manager shows up and says they have no lanes, they are all reserved or broken. We are just astonished. He then said he keeps a couple reserved just in case and gave us two lanes. We bowled one game. 6 of us, including two kids. Had two BOGO coupons. We paid for our bowling up front. Around frame seven they shut our lanes down. After finally getting ahold of someone they accused of us stealing games, saying we paid for 4 people but had six on the lanes. We then informed them we used two coupons and they just waked away and turned our lanes on, no apology. Finished bowling and turned our gear in. Not a single employee was pleasant to deal with. The wait staff was not nice, counter guy was out right mean and the supposed manager was just as bad. We left after being there for an hour, still more then 25 lanes open. We then left and had to endure walking out the front door and being greeted by 25+ chain smokers all right next to the door. Anything to have a smoke I guess. read more

It's bowling lanes. Probably been there since the 50's. Astronomically high snack prices, less than friendly employees, and malfunctioning lanes diminish what is really not a bad place to spend some time. The laser light/blacklight bowling is quite a treat though! read more

The service at the desk was awful because they refused the value on their Facebook page that a fellow employee wrote. They claimed bowling was $2, but in fact it was $5 per game. The middle-aged woman at the desk was extremely rude and did not compromise with us, despite the post. The drinks are extremely expensive for what they are, despite having minimal alcohol in them. We were 5 of only 10 people bowling, and despite that, there still was terrible service. Do not recommend. read more

Dollar days at west gate wasn't all it's cut out to b, was told there was no one available to reload rack of pins as it misfunctioned and was told our score could b fixed to reflect proper scoring but he didn't fix when asked to do so. We also got shorted at least one frame if not two because of malfunction and final score didn't replete true pin count for the game. read more

And the only girl working there was terribly rude and there was no music there at all to bop too... a very dull place. Do not reccomend this place at all!!!! Not to mention it looks like I'm in the 90's here with their old equipment with dust on it and just horrible service. My daughter got hand foot and mouth from their bowling shoes... DISGUSTING. do they even clean their own bowling shoes that clearly look like they are about 15-20 years old?! I'm completely disgusted by this place. I'm not sure how they are still in business. So I went here today and it was very hot inside. There were a couple malfunctions of the equipment while bowling but that wasn't the worst part.. The worst part was the incredibly bitchy staff. I wish I knew one girl in particulars name but she was full herself and had a shit attitude. I read the other reviews from years ago and they complained about unfriendly staff as well.
