Aunt was there for a few years until the end of her life. The staff has always been helpful and kind to my mil & husband & i when visiting except for once. They even let us bring in our pups to see her because my aunt loved our dog, as long as they were vaccinated which they were because we belonged to a dog park that requires them. The other residents really enjoyed our dogs as well. The one time that they were kinda rude was the day my aunt passed away. She already crossed to the other side, but we were all in there to say our goodbyes. It was extremely hot in the room so I had to step out a few times. One of the times I stepped out, it was a young man I had never met before demand rudely why I was out in the hallway several times. He was working at the desk right across the room so I figured he would have known that the patient across from his desk had passed. I explained to him that our family member had passed, but it was extremely hot in the room which he did finally turn his attitude around for. I've had nothing, but pleasant experiences here while visiting except for with this person. read more

My mom had to stay here for 3 months recovering from a broken leg, she is 91 and has the beginnings of dementia. The staff was very kind, patient and helpful, I can't express how grateful I am for the way she was treated. They offer a nice selection on daily menu items but of the times that I visited my father there, I saw many residents not being moved/turned for HOURS. We made many numerous requests to have my father seated on the toilet BEFORE showering him and they wouldn't, then they complained when he would poop while being showered. Also, they only showered my father once every THREE DAYS. I get that it's a big place with a lot of patients and you have to put them on rotations, but three days? I wasn't happy about that and neither was my father. There are some nurses there that do care about the patients but most of them are in a hurry to get to the next person. The facility was clean and it did not have that 'dirty nursing home facility' smell to it. The activities that are offered are decent, they had an ice cream social while my father was there, which he did seem to enjoy and the staff who were helping with it were friendly. They also offer private rooms for patients but those are on a first-come-first-served basis, and they can be moved out of those rooms at any time without the family being notified of it first. Kinda BS if you ask me. read more

This center has really messed my mom up mentally. She now feels like she is a burden and is severely depressed now. My mom wasn't like this last Saturday. She was up and walking now she is scared to fall. Too many other issues to mention in this review but think twice before placing your loved one in the care of this center. read more

Great care. My FIL is there post-op for hip break. All the staff have been kind, professional, and extremely helpful. Most nursing homes have issues with unpleasant smells, and over worked nursing staff. Westgate does a great job mitigating issues. There are amazing people working here. Westgate is one of the cleanest places that I have ever seen. The therapy people were wonderful . They were very caring people. Only one bad thing for me was the food. I thought they could improve that. The staff people were very helpful. They were always keeping the rooms clean and did a great job. I have had probably the best experience ever at Westgate. I cannot get over how the staff are helpful and how they you know to take care of your needs and they just are amazing. This place is horrid. My folks just got out and we are relieved. They were constantly talked down to. Workers would insist that my father should just "go in his brief" because changing a diaper took less time than helping him to the restroom. My mother was treated as a visitor not a patient. My dads room would be made up while my mom's would be ignored. Food is despicable, rice with every meal. They would wake up my mom late in the evening for a shower and if she refused they responded with, "ok, no shower again for 3 weeks." They treat you like you are senile even if you are not. I am just amazed at the heart of those at Westgate Gardens. Navigating care at a large facility is not easy. But, people that care are the driving force at this wonderful facility. Today, Jamie Mudford, in the business office made time to explain how best to deal with a situation that was quickly resolved. She was tremendous! She then escorted me to Alex Lopez, EVS Supervisor, who very quickly fixed a situation with a deft touch. I think this place is the best. read more

I'D LIKE TO POINT OUT THIS FACILITY HAS REVIEWS FROM THEIR OWN EMPLOYEES, MAJOR CONFLICT IF INTEREST. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND READ THE REAL REVIEWS.....I could give no stars, I would. So that's the only reason I have given them one star. I have worked as a CNA in the past and this is by far the worst facility I have ever seen. My mother whom is not able to walk was here for PT, I was told that she needed close supervision. She was left in her wheelchair roaming the halls without any type of preventative taken to ensure she wouldn't fall out. While attempting to navigate herself she fell out face first, my mother is prone to fractures due to an illness. When I asked if and why xrays were not not the nurses became very short, rude and stay as tight lipped as possible. The facility said a doctor physically examined her and said she was fine. Later, we as in my family contacted an ambulance and had her transported to the ER because she needed xrays. End result my mother has two black eyes, a nasal fracture, hematoma on her forehead and a fracture C2. Needless to say my mother will not be returning to this negligent facility. My grandmother had surgery and was completed non ambulatory. She was transferred to this facility where she was basically neglected. She started getting bed sores on her bottom as well as underneath her chest. Her hands were very weak and she struggled to feed herself. She is a dialysis patient and the same gauze/bandages were left on for several days. We took her plenty of clothes and she would be dressed in somebody else's clothes that did not fit her. Her neck brace was extremely dirty as well. Staff was very unprofessional; we would call, they would tell us they would have her call us back and hang up very rudely and never call back. We decided to finally bring her home and even her dialysis staff advised us to do so as they noticed she was not being treated properly. Pictures were taken and reports have also been made. I definitely do not recommend this place. read more

My 84 yr old mother arrived this past Thursday nite, (Feb 8, 2018) we brought her own Cpap machine along with her Distilled water, (Sealed jugs) by Sun morning I looked down at the water and noticed that the jugs seals were never broken!?! So basically Mom never received her CPAP for the first 3 nights b/c the CNA left the decision up to an 84 yr old woman who doesn't remember what day it is or what she had for dinner!?!? Too lazy to call the POA up.....(daughter) would rather do nothing all nite On Admission I was given a list of Meds that Mom would be given during her stay, Blood thinner was NOT on it, I find out 5 days into her stay that they have been giving her blood thinners for the past 5!!!! Days She was discharged from the hospital with a bleeding ulcer, with specific orders to DC her blood thinners for 4 WEEKS!!!!! I immediately called 911; and got her out of this H-ll hole...... if you Love your parents ....and I repeat, if you love and care about seeing your parents live DO NOT place them in this Place..... The CNA"s are the most unprofessional I've ever seen, I could go on and on. read more

My grandmother was a patient at westgate gardens for about 5 months. It was very hard for her and our family to place her in a nursing facility while she recovered from a broken wrist. I've been a florist for many years and have delivered to many nursing homes, always feeling a bit bothered by the lack of cleanliness of most.. Thinking I wouldn't want my loved ones in a nursing home. When the time came to place my grandma, this was my first suggestion to my family. It has always been very clean and the staff very helpful. My grandma was very happy here and was excited to participate in the many activities organized for the residents, especially the musicians that came in... I very much enjoyed it too! I am still waiting to make a final decision on Westgate Gardens, first off it does not smell like a nursing home and the employees seem relatively friendly and happy BUT we are having some communication issues with the doctor and staff. They have been accommodating but not overly and everyone is VERY busy, we have only been here a short while so I will be updating the review as time will tell, also we are short term rehab with excellent insurance and that may make a difference. If you don't live nearby, do not think you will be able to speak regularly, loud-and-clear, to your loved-ones. If you do not make arrangements at time of admission for a land-line, in-room phone, you are relegated to call the nurse-station, hope their one cordless unit is free, and then realize everyone else on that floor must also use the handset for in-coming calls, which is likely to entail a wait, a lousy, spotty connection, and more likely, a dying battery. Such a "classy" and definitely costly establishment, should provide all patients with phones. That is just basic humanity, and professional care. I have just spent several tries to even get the nurses' station, but all I get is an endless, "Your call is being transferred." followed by twelve rings, and back to , "Your call..." Bah!! read more

Choosing a care facility for my loved one was such a difficult decision. I struggled with who to trust and whether I was making the right decision. I was unable to take care of my grandma myself so a care facility was my only option. Westgate Gardens made this difficult transition so much easier. They loved my grandma as their own and took excellent care of her. I would make the same decision in a heartbeat. If you are in my position, at least go learn more about them. If I could give more than 5 stars to this facility, I would. I selected this place for my dad, after reading the online reviews for all the rehab centers in visalia. My dad was at this facility for two weeks for a mild stroke, which required therapy for the left leg and arm. I was amazed at how well this entire facility functioned. The entire staff was nice, friendly, compassionate and very helpful. Beyond their regular routines and routes, they would pop in randomly, just to see how my dad was doing and if there was anything he needed. The upper management, was also very accessible. I was able to walk over to the director for any special requirements. The place ran in such an organized manner. The facility itself is kept very clean and the rooms are deep cleaned regularly. While we were there, they had a valentines day party, and church on sundays, along with so many other activities. It was just amazing to see this place run like a mini town. I can't remember all the names, some the that ring out were Jas, Rianna, Margaret, Kulsom and so many more,the therapy group, the people who cleaned, the nurses that were handing out the pills, the people that brought in the food, just an overall huge high five to the entire staff at Westgate. read more
