I always have the best time at Westgate. I've gone since I was little, but that also translates into me knowing that it is far from pristine. If you expect it, then it won't be a problem. The lanes are the appropriate distance(the union drives me crazy), there's the right lighting, and the music is so terrible it makes you laugh. If there is some sort of technical problem you're dealing with, you need to be stern with the staff--they all have a great sense of humor, but if you think they'll just stop what they're doing and help you out of the kindness of their hearts--that's doubtful. There's cheap beer/food, the bartender is a hot mess but hilarious, and bowling is fun. I wish I was there, now. read more

I've bowled all my life and have to say this place is fun, professionally managed and very clean. I went with a group from work and we had the best time. I left a review a few years ago but my bowling habits have changed over the years so I figured I would update my review. I started bowling more over the past year and now frequently come here to bowl. I used to bowl a couple of times a year with friends, nothing serious, but now I have gotten more serious about the sport so I come several times a week. This place is like the "cheers" of bowling for me....the place where everyone knows your name. The staff is great, from lane attendants to bartenders and managers, this place has a group of wonderful employees. The lanes are always clean and well maintained. The leagues are fun and affordable. If you aren't into bowling, you should get into it... join a league... you will meet a ton of awesome people and pick up a great skill. read more

Ive been coming here since i was a little kid, seeing as i am from Austin and this particular area was kinda like "coming into to town". We like to come here when the weather is bad outside and play a game or two w the kids. We all generally have a really good time here. Bowling is fun and challenging! The place is fun, the line at the bar is endless. You have to wait at more than 12 minutes to get a beer on Friday evenings. The waitress is overwhelmed and slow. My advice would be to have her at the bar and one floating through the lanes. The floating waitress would be getting a bunch of tips because we wouldn't even have to leave our game and miss turns. read more

Came here on a Sunday around noon with my little family. We had a buy one game get one free coupon, so we thought why not? The total came out to be about $22. Not bad for 2 games for 3 people. Not a fan of the food but we still had a good time. They also had very clean restrooms. read more

Went bowling here on a Sunday night and had a good time. Very fairly priced beer and we were able to get a lane right away. There is unlimited bowling after 9 pm for $10/person so I thought this was a really good deal since it was only 2 of us, we got 4 games in. Will definitely be going again soon! It was my boyfriends Birthday last week and he decided he wanted to something fun with our sons in tow. So off we were for a night of bowling and greasy foods. For $40 buck we played two games of young ins versus old ones. I haven't bowled in 20-30 years which might explain why the young ins won, but we had a blast. This place is great. Worst lane ever. Ran by immature people. Kicked us out early because they wanted to go home. Half the lanes were in operation.

As far as the alley itself, nothing sets it apart from other alleys. A bowling alley is a bowling alley. The place is fairly clean and staff is nice, but there isn't anything special about here. The music selection on a Friday night was all over the place but kind of entertaining because of that. So cosmic bowling goes till 2 am on a Fri night/Sat morning and they want to start throwing people out at 145. However, they already turned the lights on at 115 and reminded us repeatedly that closing time was fast approaching. I understand that you want your shift to end, but hey we are paying customers so please let us enjoy our evening until it is really time to go. Quite a fun place to go if you're looking for a reasonably large bowling lane venue. The cost is quite reasonable and the atmosphere is on the lively side. My husband and I frequent the lanes. Our experiences here have always been great. The employees are kind and attentive, the lanes are clean and well cared for, the bartenders are fun and fast, the food in the grill is tasty and most importantly they do not overcharge for their lanes. Whenever management can turn an unfortunate situation into a positive one where the customers leave happy, I feel that it must be pointed out they are doing things right. This is exactly what happened a little while back when my boyfriend and myself both called the alley to confirm what time their pro shop closed. When I first called, while sounding a little unsure the guy on the phone said they closed at 3:30. When I told my bf the guy sounded unsure, he called himself to check- and the guy (this time, confidently) assured it was 3:30. So as it was 2:55 we zipped out the door and made it to the alley by 3:15. As we walked up to the pro shop, and it was clear lights were out, my heart sunk and the door confirmed my fear that they closed at 3:00. I went through a range of emotions, but my boyfriend took charge and calmly approached the desk asking for the manager. We were greeted and my bf explained the whole situation to the manager who pretty much responded in the best way I could hope him to as he worked to solve our situation. He let us bowl for free while he called one of the guys who owned the shop. The guy came in and we picked out our shoes. We were told if we came back to buy them we would get a 25% discount, so we did. We finished by bowling a couple more free games, and went on our way. Needless to say I was back a few days later to pick up the shoes and I can't thank the manager enough for being such a good guy to resolve the problem! read more

The computers on the lanes are arcane, the place is a bit dirty, and you'll have a good time if thats your idea of a bowling alley. One improvement since the 80s is the way the bumpers come up. Rails that you set per player. Ooh la la. They have a "pro shop" if that's the way you bowl/roll. read more

I went to play bowling with my 4 yrs old daughter few days ago, and it was great. Beside using the side bumper, my daughter used the bowling sliding rail (again she is 4yrs old) . But tonight, it was totally diffferent, they said that the bowling sliding rail is for handicap kid! and refused to let us using it. My daughter was so sad. We came to ask a couple times but hopeless. I felt unsafe for a small kid to throw the 6lbs ball. If I don't assist her, the ball will drop on her feet. Dont they have kid of their own and worry about the kid safety. Well, we left after 1 game. With 2 hands holding shoes and her 6lbs bowling ball to return plus the kid distracting me, the guy just quickly using my credit card to charge me the amount not even wait for me to show the free pass for 1 free game in summer for junior kid. Didn't he know that junior kid has 1 free pass for sumer? or he was mad at us come bugging him few times for the bowling sliding rail? I asked for it, and he said sorry too late. In front of the young kid, I did not want to get mad. In summary: They are so stupid if don't let kid use the bowling sliding rail. They could make more money. Be aware of the charge! I don't think we will go back there again. read more

If you like bowling and live in South Austin this is the place to go! The atmosphere is your typical bowling alley from the 80's with the music to boot. Plenty of balls to chose from and tons of lanes 40 to be precise. The prices are reasonable and it's a great place for family fun. read more

I am by no means a bowling expert. I bowled a 71 and was proud of it, so that should tell you something. I went kind of early in the evening and there were a lot of kids there. It was slightly hard for me to contain my sailor type language but I did make a friend out of a 6 yr little boy in the next lane. He noticed that we had the same ball and we kind of hit it off from there. It was a decent place and I might return again but perhaps a little later on in the evening. read more

I like bowling lanes that keep it classic. This is definitely a nice classic lane. It's what I grew up with. Sure, they have that rave bowling thing, but it's not every night. My only complaint so far is that I wish they would spread out the bowlers when it's not so crowded. No need to put hyper 12 year olds next to me when their are only 4 or five people bowling. I grew up bowling here and I'm glad my daughter, niece and nephews get to create the same memories - in literally the same place - no updates, no high-tech state of the art equipment; it's literally the same place we've always been to.
