I grew up in the area and will always stop in. However, they just hired a judgmental, rude, and all around ***** bartender named Sophia. I don't know what this girls problem is but unless you are tipping her well and a man you don't mean shit and will wait forever to get served, if you get asked at all what you want for a drink or dinner. My friend and I were looking for a place to have a late bite. After browsing Yelp, we came across Backspin and decided to give them a try. We sat at the bar. Taylor was our bartender and she was nice. She informed us that they have a limited late night menu which was fine with us. My friend ordered a cheese pizza and we split an order of the chips and salsa. The food was fine for what it was. During the day, they have more options like burgers, sandwiches, salads, and pizza. We also had cocktails. My friend had the Grapefruit 'Tini while I had the Pomegranate Lemon Drop Martini. We both enjoyed our drinks. I like flavored lemon drop martinis, and I'm not sure that I've ever had a pomegranate lemon drop before this visit. The bar is moderate in size, but they do have a patio area. We came on a Saturday during a game so maybe I should give them another chance but wasn't impressed by the service or food today. We sat on the patio and I will say our waitress was very nice, but the bar staff was quite cold and the food took about 50 minutes to come out which is a little wild for a sandwich and a wrap. The Philly cheesesteak was mid and both the tots and the sweet potato fries came out cold. I got the southwest salad as a wrap and I will say it was fresh and tasty, but they didn't dress the salad or send it out with the promised side of ranch so I also had to wait for that. Big game and only one of the 3 outside tvs was working. Again out waitress was sweet but that and the fresh (though dry) lettuce in my wrap were the only real positives. I requested an apology by voicemail, but they never responded, even after reopening the next day. Changing their mind after confirming hours and then failing to apologize is unacceptable. I ducked in to watch the Phillies/Diamondbacks playoff game and grab a bit to eat. Had the wings and garlic fries, which at happy hour pricing was a great deal. Tried the buffalo hot sauce, a good homage to the original wing covering and the wings were a good size and cooked correctly. The garlic fries were good, not as "garlicky" as I expected but went well with the wings. Happy hour draft pricing was also good, and the place had a nice after work/early dinner crowd. After a struggle to find the game, my bartender got it on, although it was the MLB feed in Spanish. Not a huge deal since they left the music on instead of the game broadcast, but trying to figure out stats took a bit of research into my 2 years of high school Spanish memories. The place is your standard corner of a strip mall plain square box, but a large bar and lots of TVs check off some of the sports bar boxes. If they had found the actual TBS feed and put on the sound for a championship series game like a real sports bar should, I would have gone 5 stars. read more

Accessing this bar may have looked tough with the new diamond interchange and remnants of a construction site but it was quite easy. There is plenty of surface parking and walked right in. The place is built around a bar with some table seating and a few outside. We decided to sit at the bar and a happy bartender greeted us and ask what we wanted to drink. This is a real bar so your choices are wide open and decided one of the local Austin beers. However we were not here for drinks only and studied their menu. I decided on getting the Quesadilla with Chicken. The place was busy with many TVs showing a variety of sports. There are lots of windows which keeps this place brighter than some bars which are barely lit. I felt very comfortable here and my quesadilla was good where the chicken was soft eating it through a crunchy tortilla with lots of warm cheese. Bad food will chase a place out of town in Austin but not Backspin where may be also identifiable as a gastropub of bar food. They also serve sandwiches, burgers, and pizzas among other things. This might be my destination place to see the Austin FC games but definitely return way before that starts. read more

I went on a Sunday afternoon and there was maybe 6 people at the bar and a total of 5 tables with guest in the whole place. While I felt it seemed clean and the inside was nice and parking was easy, we were not helped for 10+ minutes after sitting down. Once we did get to order, I can say that the fried pickles were really good and the burger was good. However, I personally feel the food is overpriced. My burger was $15 (I did the basic BYO and added onion) and I added fries for an additional cost ($3.50 I believe) as the side that comes with the burger is chips. Just feels like a high priced burger in my opinion! Our server gave us our food and then we never saw her again, never giving us napkins or utensils to use for our meals. I gave up on waiting to flag her down and just started eating which was annoying. Overall, our meal for two burgers & fried pickles with no drinks was $60. I wouldn't say I dislike this place, but I would probably not make an effort to re-visit. read more

Nice local business with a ton of regulars, according to the bartenders. I usually like to support local businesses rather than go to BWW or Twin Peaks. I popped in to watch some football one Sunday and I was pretty impressed with the layout. It's not too big on the inside, and there may be limited bar seating some days, but everyone here seems friendly. I just had some drinks here and didn't indulge in the food. However, I looked over and saw that someone had a nice juicy steak. I was so jealous and wanted to try one so bad. Too bad I was on a budget. But I think I may have a sandwich next time I come in to watch football or just to hang out. The reviews mention great things about the food. There are also specials on buckets of beer if you want to bring a friend. I think you can only do the bucket special if you have someone with you though. It's a nice place that has been hosting regulars for a number of years. But the food looked so delicious that I think when I come back the place will get that extra star! How hard is it to mess up wings? Used to be my go to place for them. In the past they had flavor, piping hot, much larger, and the accompanying veggies and ranch or blue cheese dressing also had flavor. Went there a few weeks ago for wings, expecting the same this as usual. This time the wings were tiny, tepid warm, little flavor. The veggies were limp and tasted almost sour and the blue cheese dressing had a gritty texture and a chemical aftertaste. It's simple, the kitchen used the absolute cheapest tiny wings they can source....and they were OLD. The veggies also were past their prime, I was served spoiled carrots (since when does a carrot taste sour?). The dressing was old or probably a pour in from other expired containers. Needless to say, I ate a couple wings, paid and left. I tried liking the place, the quality of the food has taken a huge fall from what I have had in the past. read more

But we were recently FLOORED when we went for dinner, and paid our bill to find that the margaritas were $22 each. Not a typo - TWENTY TWO DOLLARS A PIECE! I have never paid that much, not even at a poolside resort in Hawaii. We were given the generic "costs are going up" explanation when we asked about the cost - which, sure, I can understand within a few dollars. But $22 is nearly DOUBLE the cost of a premium Marg anywhere else in the area. Which, sadly, is exactly where I will be patronizing from now in - anywhere else but here. OK, in my 2012 review I hoped they would take over the sandwich place next door and take that place over. THEY DID. It's biggerer, badderer and drinkier than before. Watching World Cup soccer this season was a blast. They even served favorite drinks of the country's playing the matches. Waited 30 minutes for the waitress to come back to our table, and they never put the next game on. Probably won't be back. It's a shame. Remodel is fantastic ! Always a great meal here too . Brunch is delicious and the new build out has the bar bigger than before and plenty of room for more tables ! Every seat at the bar was filled and most tables were taken this past Sunday . Tons of TVs to watch pretty much every game and the service was friendly and prompt . The biggest complaint in these reviews is about the service. I've been here quite a few times for dinner, lunch and late night drinks, but I'm not one of the " regulars". The service has always been good, but I do agree that "regulars" get more attention; however, it's never affected my service. Honestly, I expect a neighborhood bar to provide more attentive service to their regulars, so it doesn't bother me. The food can be great, or ok, I love their club sandwiches and most of the daily specials they have, which sometimes can be a little unusual. My favorite daily special was a while ago when they made stuffed peppers, but my regular go to sandwich is the classic club. A simple offering that tastes great and hits the spot. Their French dip rocks too. I like their house chips, but I've been with others who haven't so they're not for everyone. This is a good neighborhood bar, with a solid menu and kitchen, a great beer list, and good service. read more

My husband and I were in search of place that we could sit and talk to catch up for the week and also grab a bite to eat and wash it down with a cold beer. I had seen this little place off of Slaughter and we rolled right in. This place is more a bar that serves food and not a place that has serves food and beer. Does that make sense? Others have complained about the service and I would to agree. The issue appeared the place was busy and they had only one server. She was not your excellent server who will running all around. She was the server who will walk past you multiple times before getting back to you or even acknowledging your exsistance. WE started off with the beer of the week. It was a beer that was brewed from the San Antonio area. Sorry don't remember the name but I my husband and I both enjoyed it. We ordered the fried pickles as a starter. The fried pickles had a unique breading which I loved. The pickles were still crispy and not soggy like other fried pickles can get. Our other food showed up shortly after. My husband ordered the patty melt with the house chips and I ordered the club sandwich without cheese and the house chips. The house chips were a little spicy which was a nice change from other chips. The sandwich was good to and the bacon was crispy. My low review is basically on the service. The food and beer was good and I think we might have had a better time actually sitting at the bar or in outside patio area.
