This is a long overdue update. In the time since my last review, my dad has passed away and my mother who suffers from Alzheimer's is now a current resident at Westgate. In every circumstance, I have been so appreciative of the care my parents received at Westgate. Because of the care they showed to my father before his passing, I felt completely at ease entrusting my mom's care to them when the time came. The director, Aidah, knows every detail of what goes into each resident's care, and somehow also manages to remember little details about their loved ones too! She retained many of the same people even through Covid, so in some cases the same people who cared for my dad then are caring for my mom now! This speaks to the atmosphere and oversight at the facility. My mom had more complex needs than my dad, and without Angie I could never have put together all the pieces together to ensure those needs could be met. Lead nurse Jessica and her team let me know of every change to mom's health. And Clara in Activities is one of my mom's favorite people, never failing to make her smile. I could go on listing the various staff, but I say all this to say, that Westgate helps you to navigate the care your loved ones need in the least stressful way possible. Moving my Mom out of her home and into assisted living was not an easy choice. But Aidah and the staff at Westgate have helped us every step of the way. WV is the 5th ALF that Mom has lived in over 17 years. Mom has lived here for 10 months so far. Pros: Director Aidah is the first director who knows of Mom's health issues and well as her head nurse. She works hard and supports her team. Everyone, including the dining room servers and tech support, cares and asks how they can help my Mom. The large majority are friendly and work hard. Aidah accepts residents whose families are supportive and active in their loved one's care. Things to Consider: WV accepts residents who are 2-person assists. There are more physically needy residents. Residents with memory issues are not separated from those without cognitive impairment. Lunch is the heavier meal. Sandwiches and hamburgers are oven served as dinner. Hopefully, the new head of kitchen will come up with healthier meals. Overall, I'm delighted with Westgate Villa and recommend it. read more

My dad stayed at Westgate Villa during the last year of his life. Westgate Villa also has hospice services, so he recently passed at Westgate Villa in February 2022. Westgate took really good care of him all the way until the end. My dad was not independent (he was wheelchair bound) and needed a higher level of care. We chose Westgate because it is a smaller facility and close to our home so we could visit him often. The location of Westgate Villa is good - the facility is in a nice peaceful suburban neighborhood but is also close to Westgate Shopping Center. The meals and activities at Westgate seem well organized. The caregivers checked up on him every two hours 24/7. After my dad was in hospice, the caregivers brought his meals to him in his shared room. The food they served him was very good. The staff at Westgate are also very good - it's not an easy job taking care of many people who are at the end of their life. Aidah, the director of Westgate, did an excellent job of communicating and managing the entire experience. Westgate worked well with the doctors and nurses at Kaiser. My dad was sent to Kaiser Santa Clara whenever it was needed. Kaiser home help was sent to Westgate Villa whenever needed. Westgate Villa also works with an excellent hospice company / nurse that took excellent care of him during the last weeks of his life. Communication with Westgate was excellent. I received a call every time something happened or changed with my dad. My dad stayed at Westgate during the COVID 19 pandemic, and Westgate had excellent safety protocols and communication in place to ensure that their elderly residents were protected. Finally, as with any assisted living facility, please make sure you visit and / or communicate with your loved one at least once a week to see how he or she is doing and to see if there is any feedback for the assisted living facility. We installed a computer in his room so that he can video call us whenever he wanted. Please also be sure to label all of your loved one's belongings. Sometimes clothes get misplaced. Westgate Villa also has been renovated - please ask for a renovated room for your loved one. read more

I would highly recommend Westgate. My confidence has grown strong over the last 1.5 month. As I visit on a regular basis, I see the care for my Dad physically and how they relate with him. This is includes working with hospice, fine tuning his meds and keeping him clean. They have been very strong in communicating with me over the phone and each time I visit which gives me a lot of peace. Picking a care facility is very difficult and I personally would choose Westgate again. I highly recommend them! read more

My dad was a resident at Westgate Villa and moving him here was a great decision. It's never easy to move a family member into assisted living but the staff at Westgate was kind, caring, and thoughtful. He was well taken care of medically and personally. Aidah and Angie helped navigate the details from moving in/out to insurance questions and suggestions. My dad enjoyed the dining room, the variety of meals served, and the friendship he made with the other residents. The rooms are spacious for the residents and the outdoor patio provides the opportunity to sit outside when the weather permits. Activities are plentiful and well planned and residents are encouraged to participate. As a visitor I was always welcomed and remembered by the care team and staff and even a few of the other residents whom I enjoyed visiting with as well. read more

My sister & I placed my parents into Westgate Villa over 3 years ago. My parents were aging, my mom has dementia, my father was very sick after contacting Covid. It was very stressful trying to find a facility that could care for both of them and their different needs. Finding Westgate Villa has been a blessing! The wonderful care, loving staff and fabulous communication between the facility, & care givers has been just what we needed. Aidah, the amazing director of WV has been there for over 12 years! Her presence has been a HUGE part of the reason we have been so happy! Aidah's dedication to the facility, and care, for the residence is unwavering. The staff would not work there as long as they have without her dedicated guidance. In addition to Aidah, Angie has been extremely helpful for us. She can navigate the complicated medical/medicare system better than anyone! Cynthia at the front desk couldn't be a better representation of the entire staff! She's an angel who greets you when you first come through the door! My father passed away last year, but at every visit he would say, " Thank you for helping us find this place. we're so well taken care of! You're mother and I couldn't be happier!". Finding elder care is extremely difficult, but we feel so thankful to have found WV! We highly recommend it to anyone looking for care for their loved ones. read more

Now that we are in the age of Covid and we aren't allowed in the building. I know that he is well cared for and that is a major relief with all that is going on in the world. This place is terrific! My mother has been there about 3 months now. When she moved in she had a lot of joint pain, some memory problems and her diabetes was poorly controlled. The wonderful and caring staff now manage her meds and help her get around. Her pain is now half what it was, her memory is back and her diabetes is under control! She even likes the food! The facility is attractive, clean and well kept. The staff are flat out awesome! They really care about all of the residents. Kudos to Aiada and all of her team! read more

Mom has been living here since April 2022 and we were so lucky to find this facility for her. She has made so many friends since moving in and she is happy every time I see her. The facility provides fun games, music, parties and celebrations, which mom gets so excited about. Mom just had her 6th anniversary at Westgate Villa. In unscheduled weekly visits over the years we've been persistently impressed with the level of care and regard for her. Mom gets professional treatment; delivered by staff who provide her care in a warm and friendly manner. They get Mom up and dressed every day. They get her involved in activities and contact with other people. They follow medical needs with precision. They maintain an appropriate level of communication with us. Staff interaction has always been patient, kind and supportive. Small example: We got her stuck half-way in the car and couldn't get her in or out. Two staffers off-shift and heading home spotted our difficulties and came over and took the time to get her loaded. It's a great place for Mom; and it's great peace of mind for us knowing she's safe and well cared for. read more

My mom was living at Westgate Villa for about nine months before her passing in February. I can not say one bad thing about the care she received or the facility. My mom was a very difficult patient as she suffered from dementia and would "yell" alot. They were so very patient with her and they took really good care of her. I am happy that she transitioned there to live out the remainder of her life because my sister and I truly had no concerns that she was being taken care of and our worries about her were eased! This facility is part of a three-facility operation. Villa Fontana is an independent living facility that also has a locked memory care unit. Amberwood Gardens is a large Skilled Nursing facility with 238 beds. Westgate Villa is an Assisted Living facility with about 25 rooms. In a former life, Westgate was an independent living facility and the rooms were private with private baths. It was retrofitted to become an assisted living facility with shared rooms a few years ago. Unfortunately, the retrofitted rooms are not appropriate for sharing. All of the usable space is against the outer wall, and the resident who occupies that space controls the window and most of the usable wall space, leaving little space for furniture or belongings of their roommate. The administrative staff is pleasant and responsive, but it often feels like they are just saying words to placate families instead of actually addressing concerns through action. The care staff ranges from pleasant but unskilled to semi-skilled but apathetic or hostile. Staffing is short, especially at nights and on the weekends. Residents often have to wait excessive amounts of time for assistance in toileting or freshening after soiling themselves. The food is "meh," the dining room is too small for the number and type of residents. Finally, there are many residents whose ability to be in an "assisted living" facility is questionable. One gets the impression that this facility operates right on the fringe of legality in terms of how it is run and the residents it accepts. If this is the best facility you can afford for your loved one, it is tolerable. The facility is kept clean and odor-free, and that's more than can be said about many. But for not a lot more money a very high-quality facility can be enjoyed. read more

Before moving into Westgate Villa my mom was depressed, sleeping all of the time and using a wheelchair. We thought that she was dying. With a couple of weeks my mom was using a walker only, playing bingo like a champ and no longer sleeping during the day. After a couple of months her memory improved too. She loves the weekly outings. The Westgate Villa has cared for my mother as if she is their own mom. We are so happy that my mom is getting the quality of life care that she deserves. My brother had a stroke and lived here for about a year and a half before moving to Amberwood Gardens (the related nursing home). While my brother was a somewhat difficult personality, the staff did their best to deal with him, and for that I am grateful. The facility itself was much nicer than some I had visited before moving him here. I recommend this place as a nice facility with a caring staff, at a (relatively) reasonable cost. read more

My mom moved to Westgate the last two months of her life. She had been in and out of hospitals for 2 years, so Westgate was a refreshing change for her. Westgate Villa brought her so much joy. Each staff member, 24/7, was loving, respectful, kind, professional, and constantly caring. They had wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations with amazing food (my mom was very picky about food and she raved about the great food at Westgate). My mom was always clean, her laundry always done on time with nothing ever missing. She fell in love with the staff members. When the staff learned she was dying (which surprised us all), they went up and sang for her. She loved playing bingo and the other word games they offered. Westgate made her feel like she was home living a normal life rather than hospital life. She just passed last Wednesday. Westgate's staff worked harmoniously with Vitas hospice helping her to release peacefully. I will forever be grateful. I am an LMFT, so have a keen interest in patient's rights and welfare.
