The worst rehabilitation facility I have ever experienced…read more The staff seem to work together against you rather than with you, and I rarely receive clear answers when something happens. At times, it feels as though they are trying to hide what is really going on instead of being transparent with the family. This facility has gone seriously downhill, and I feel terrible for anyone who has to depend on it for their recovery. The physical therapy has been inconsistent and, in my opinion, inadequate. My mother walked into this facility and is leaving in a wheelchair, no longer able to walk. That is extremely concerning and heartbreaking for our family. Families should be able to trust that their loved ones are receiving consistent, appropriate care and rehabilitation. Unfortunately, that has not been our experience here.

There is plenty of room for one too! There is also a dining or living room, opposite the kitchen to sit, watch TV, listen to music, or simply read. Each building consists of a top and bottom floor. Bottom floor people have fenced - in yards to tend to flowers and while the top floor people can enjoy balconies to look out of at the greenery. There is also an elevator in most buildings as well as a"bridge" that attaches one building to another as well as stairs for us who pefer THEM to an elevator. Want to walk? Start at one end, go down to the dog park then come on back. The dog park is a lovely FENCED- IN place to allow dogs to play. Yes! Dogs are allowed - medium size dogs and even cats. The landscaping Is GORGEOUS and the maintenance men make sure lawns are watered, and bushes and trees are maintained.. Flowers to smell and bushes and trees to look at. There are also benches to sit on which to read or just rest, and the walkways - that go all the way to and from the Dog park, are cement so you do not get dust or on rainy days mud on your feet. A cleaning girl cleans your room (rooms) each week - vaccums carpets and scrubs sinks and tubs. So nice to have a clean place to live in! They play BINGO, here, and if Bingo is not for you - there are other games to play as well. There are times for people to have a "Social day" where they sit, have snacks and meet new people. They also have exercise machines to get you in shape! I HAVE lived other place but NONE are as wonderful as this! OH and it is less expensive than others, and the management is always available to help in any way needed! Lastly there are locked gates to keep people IN and others out. Channing House is primarily a retirement community that opened in the 1960s, and added a new…read morebuilding/facility to serve assisted living and skilled nursing patients sometime around 2015. Within the last year, I have had two family members -- neither a resident of the retirement community -- spend time in that new facility. This review is about the facility, not about the retirement community as I have no experience with it -- beyond meeting many delightful residents. Everyone working at Channing House is friendly -- they do a first-rate job of hiring topnotch people, not just the kind and knowledgeable nursing staff but all the employees who work behind the scenes to keep the place humming, greet visitors, drive patients to medical appointments, and bring gourmet meals to residents. Everyone gets personal attention. Our most recent experience was with the SNF, and everyone who came to visit the patient commented on how clean and cheerful it was. I was told that many of the residents of the retirement community volunteer in the SNF -- one of the volunteers said to me "we figure we are all going to spend time here at some point, so we want to make sure it's nice!" I credit Channing House with the fact that both my family members recovered from serious health setbacks and progressed to the point that they could be discharged back home. The location -- perfect for walks (and always lots of parking) -- is a nice bonus, and let us take outings to coffee shops, the nearby park, downtown library, and even Sephora.

The property is well maintained. Redwood Villa is family-owned and run, and that caring atmosphere is prevalent throughout. My dad, who was fairly independent, had several medical emergencies, and staff was extremely accommodating as well as always keeping an eye out for him. We needed some modifications to his apartment, such as a cut-out in the tub so he could step in easily after hip surgery, and it was no problem. Staff was always extremely pleasant; there was never a 'honeymoon' period where it seems great and then diminishes over time...it was always great. We enjoyed the events held during the year such as the Christmas party, New Years party, Mothers Day dinner, etc. It's not a skilled nursing facility, and that was perfect for our needs. Residents do have assistants who come in to help with their various needs, but that's not provided directly through Redwood Villa. Their rates are extremely reasonable, and I can't recommend them highly enough.

Allyson (Memory Program Director) and Gilda (Director of Resident Care Services) are absolutely incredible. From day one, they made a genuine effort to learn everything about our mom's history and specific needs to help her settle in. The transformation has been unbelievable. Our mom was not willing to leave her room at another facility, but now she has genuine friends, eats in the dining room for all meals, and stays active. She loves her trips to the on-site salon, watching TV with her new friends, and going on outings like scenic drives and picnics in the Rose Garden. The nurses and PAL caregivers (Personal Assistants for Living) clearly have specialized training and truly know how to work with people with dementia. Every time I visit, the PALS always update me with heartwarming stories of what my mom has been doing.
