Finding the right assisted living facility can be overwhelming, but Villa Fontana has been a true blessing for my 95-year-old dad and me. It was incredibly difficult to tell my dad that I could no longer manage his growing caregiving needs, but Merife and Michelle made the transition easier by assisting me when I shared the news at his home, where he had lived for 60 years. Our first lunch at Villa Fontana was nothing short of serendipitous--my dad was reunited with a former co-worker he hadn't seen in decades! The meal was so delicious that he kept saying "oishi" (Japanese for "delicious"). It truly felt like a home-cooked meal, starting with a cream of potato soup, followed by a bountiful salad with hardboiled eggs, olives, and more. The main course featured chicken parmesan, spaghetti, perfectly prepared vegetables, and a berry pie à la mode for dessert. My dad's room is bright and cheerful, overlooking a gorgeous courtyard. It was recently remodeled with new carpet and granite countertops, making it feel fresh and inviting. To help ease his transition, Merife arranged 24/7 caregiving services from Harmony for the first three days--an unexpected but deeply appreciated gesture. Each caregiver was kind, attentive, and communicative with me, which made all the difference. Just 3 days after moving in, my dad had a small accident during the night, falling on the bathroom floor. Thankfully, he wasn't harmed, and the staff immediately provided me with pictures to reassure me that he was okay. Their attentiveness and quick response gave me so much peace of mind. Perhaps the biggest change has been in my dad's daily routine. Before moving in, he spent his days watching TV from morning until night. Now, he participates in group morning exercises, and when I asked what he liked the most about Villa Fontana, he replied, Bingo! He also loves that he can enjoy ice cream every day--a small but meaningful joy. The entire staff at Villa Fontana has been incredibly friendly and kind. In addition to Merife and Michelle, I want to give a special shoutout to Jefferson, who always greets me at the front desk with a smile, as well as Allyssa, Maryann (the activity director), Maryann (the med tech), Manny, Marycris, and Roselily. I know I'm still learning everyone's names, so my apologies if I've left anyone out! Villa Fontana has truly exceeded my expectations, and I'm so grateful my dad is in such a caring and supportive environment. Terrible administrator, Terrible food, Terrible service, 30 mins - 1 hour wait times when needing help.

I am not writing this for any compensation or special treatment. Rather, I am writing this because there needs to be recognition where recognition is due. Everything and everyone are so professional, pleasant and prepared. Communication within the entire team and with me has been excellent. The services Villa Fontana provide have been well orchestrated and the timing of everything has been amazing. I was, and continue to be, super impressed. When things got a bit frazzled for me, I found I sincerely appreciated the peace-of-mind the team gave me. They have clearly had a lot of practice and it shows. Everyone was calm, organized and reassuring from start to finish. The staff (including the beautiful upkeep and maintenance of the property, activities led by caring staff, delicious food, welcoming Front Desk personnel, wonderful behind-the-scenes staff such as in housekeeping, etc) consistently reassure me that Villa Fontana was the correct choice for a retirement community. read more

Villa Fontana get's a high rating from me. My Dad was there for a year and a half. He since passed this week. It was the perfect place for him because the Staff was top notch and the Care providers were so helpful to him. The Management was exceptional. They were willing to help me when I needed them the most. It's a very clean environment. There is always something going on to celebrate every holiday possible. This facility has been terrific for my elderly father. When he arrived, he was not able to get out of bed or walk without help since he had a fall and several health issues that required stays at hospitals and rehab centers over several months. About seven months after moving here, his strength and weight have come back to baseline and he is now able to walk on his own with a walker all over the premises like before the hospital stays. I'm writing a review so people who are researching memory care facilities will have an informed review to consider. We had our mother here for approx 2 years (mostly through covid) and were finally able to move her out to a beautiful new facility thank goodness. Communication is poor--often no one picks up the front desk phone. Many messages including appointments were ignored--not passed on. My mother's bedroom was rarely clean when I came to visit--three times there were no sheets on her bed, garbage in her closet. Very dingy appearance--unhealthy food and depressing dining area. No activities for memory care patients--only the TV and sometimes a young staff member would throw a ball back and forth. There were many more upsetting interactions too many to list here. I do feel bad for staff that is really only looking for employment and probably want to help the elderly, but for the amount you pay here for memory care you will not see it in the quality of care, the environment or in the professionalism of the staff. I am not writing this to be vindictive towards VF as anybody who goes into the business of caring for elderly people is generally good hearted--I just want to share our experience. There are many beautiful & uplifting environments for your family member--I was very impressed with Cedar Creek in Los Gatos but ultimately chose Westwind in Santa Cruz--a lovely spot for my mom. My sweet Mom has lived at Villa Fontana for the past three months, and my brother and I are so grateful for the wonderful care she's received to date. Ms. Marife appears to have created an environment where her talented staff members seem to take genuine joy in serving their Residents. We have been so encouraged to observe stellar collaboration between staff members, and we've been thrilled with the prompt and proactive communication styles. Our sweet Mom's medicines are faithful provided on time, and her caregivers connect with her throughout her day. I've been especially thankful for how often various staff members have been willing to offer insightful feedback and wise suggestions, simply based on how well they already know our darling Mom. Their keen recommendations have proved to be most helpful. Our Mom enjoys her meals quite a bit, and she's noted how much she appreciates the "camaraderie" present in the Dining Hall. We've been elated with how often she participates in the creative activities on offer each day, and she has said that she appreciates "how friendly and helpful" staff members are. She loves having her own little apartment, and we've been so pleased with how it has been maintained. Her bed is neatly made each day, her apartment looks tidy, it smells pleasant, and the turn-around time for laundry and linens is nothing less than magical. Our sweet Mom has been living in an assisted living community setting since June of 2019 (primarily in another state), and my brother and I consider the past three months at Villa Fontana to have been more than we could have hoped for. read more

My mother moved to Villa Fontana a month ago and I am so impressed and grateful to the friendly staff there and with the improvements they have made with my mom in their memory care! My mother speech and social involvement has been much improved and her mood much better. The memory team does a nice job of ensuring the residents to get involved and socialize. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Villa Fontana. Finding an Assisted Living Facility for my 98 year old mom presented an additional challenge because I reside 1500 miles away. The staff are caring and communicated with me as frequently as I needed. They will even let you know about things like "near falls," if they occur. Any calls I made, were returned promptly. Also, this operation doesn't nickel and dime you for every little thing the way I've heard some places do. As a matter of fact there were many little extras I was never billed for. Because it's family owned and well run (Thank you Marife and Roselily!), there seemed to be very little turnover. In this industry, that's a real bonus. It means that the residents and the staff get to know each other. The place is clean, well appointed and doesn't have that weird medicinal smell. If you need Assisted Living for yourself or a loved one, do NOT hesitate for a minute. Mom has passed on, and I will actually miss my association with these wonderful folks. read more

I'm writing this review, because my family placed my dad into the memory care facility on April 15th. We decided to place my dad at the Villa Fontana, because we liked the upper staff, the grounds, the caregiver's staff seemed nice and there some activities that my dad would enjoy. He declined very rapidly in their care, on June 9th he passed away. There were many issues during the 8 weeks that he was under their care- they knew he was a wonderer/pacer when he entered their facility. They do not have enough staff to watch people that pace and wonder the halls, especially at night. He fell at least 5 times and was sent to the hospital 3 times, because he hit his head and no one can say for sure what really happened. If you are looking at this facility for your loved one please visit at different times of the day to access if this is the right place for them ( Not just 10:30 am). When he passed away early Sunday morning, we received no phone call after we left to go home and my father was taken away to go to Trident Society. I called the Director on Thursday to say how disappointed we are that no one called my mother with condolence. I was told that their procedure is to send flowers to the service or the home a week after the death. Within 15 minutes the memory care manager called us to explain that she did call us (she said she left a message, but nothing was on our phones showing she called).- more excuses. I can go on and on, but I just want anyone that has a loved one that is considering this facility is to do more homework than we did. read more

When my family and I were looking for a retirement community for our mom, we were so impressed by our visit to Villa Fontana. Between the incredibly warm and friendly staff, the spacious apartments, huge dining room, absolutely beautiful courtyard/garden, busy activity schedule and convenient location, we thought it would be a good fit for her and hoped that she would be able to transition well. It has been just over a year since mom moved to Villa Fontana and little did we know how much it would change all of our lives. My family is so grateful for the care and patience she receives by the staff, from receptionists to activity staff, medical and care team and food staff, but the real clincher is that mom is truly happy. After settling in her new home, she felt a sense of security that has given her a new confidence and this has given us all great peace of mind. She has met so many wonderful new friends and loves participating in the activities from exercise class to bingo... and even loves the food!! With the gentle support and kind attention of the staff, mom has even gained some of the independence that seemed to be slipping away when she was living alone. She is in a great routine with all of the activities and is especially grateful that transportation is provided to Church on Sunday, which is so important to her. I've been coming here to visit for a couple years now. This is a really great place for your elderly parents to live if they need some assistance. They also have a memory unit for residents that have dementia or memory problems. The staff are so friendly and really care about the residents. They are always have some event and activity to keep the residents active. For example the other day for Halloween they had a pumpkin carving activity. The residents seem to also think the food is pretty decent as well. They are able to administer medications here, and also have licensed nurses on staff. If you are considering moving here or know someone that needs assistance you should definitely check Villa out for a tour. read more

My mother has been at Villa Fontana for over 3 years. She is going to be 92 in June. For us this facility is a diamond in the rough. We are so thankful we found this assisted living facility. She loves her room. She has recently been placed on hospice. During this time of Covid the entire staff has been so caring, kind and helpful to my mother and our family. Today was so special due in part to the staff. My mother was able to see her great grandchildren during a window visit. It was a lucky day for sure when a care giver recommended Villa Fontana for my mom. I had realized that independent living was no longer working and had to hire people to help with most things. I had looked at many places before the lucky referral and didn't like what I saw. They weren't homey and friendly. The moment I stepped into Villa Fontana I knew this was the one! Since she moved there, they have been as accommodating as possible. She needed to be on the 1st floor and they got her there as soon as possible. My mom has been there for 4 years now, she loves it a feels very well taken care of and I am at ease even when I go out of town. The staff are my friends and dancing partners at all the festive parties and holidays. In my opinion there is only one place this good and that's Villa Fontana! read more

Our mother moved to Villa Fontana's memory care unit a few months ago. She absolutely LOVES it there and transitioned to her new home in a very short period of time (seriously, it was only a few days which shocked us all). The staff are incredibly responsive, respectful, loving and kind to all of their patients (and their families), and they provide frequent updates on how our mom is doing which is very reassuring. Every time we see her or talk to her, she is happy and says she really likes it! She has even made a new best friend! Mom says the food is excellent. We know they work very hard to entertain all of their residents with a wonderful variety of activities, music, dancing, ice cream socials, field trips and themed patio parties. It's like mom is at a nice vacation resort and we couldn't be happier (or feel more relieved). In this time when we are all very worried about the world around us, particularly with the COVID virus scare, we sleep easy at night knowing our mom is happy and SAFE. God bless all of the wonderful caregivers at VF. They have all been a godsend to our family! I was truly impressed with the nice facility and the caring staff and friendly can do attitude and smiles. This is a fantastic assisted living facility especially Memory Care Unit. I was able to do a full tour of the property and it is absolutely gorgeous with beautiful chandeliers, color concepts and comfortable outdoor walking/seating areas. After meeting with the staff, I was 100% confident they would provide the best quality care. In addition, they have well planned activities and nutritious meals. The staff assisted with feeding, dressing, bathing, grooming, managing and administering medications along with toileting even when there were 'accidents'. Professional trained medically trained staff to assist with doctor appointments, orders, refills and transportation. The staff became apart of our family. Five stars from our family. After visiting almost every assisted living home in the Bay Area, we chose beautiful Villa Fontana for my Father-in-law. Villa Fontana came very highly recommended from two different companies that assist with retirement living / elder care. We made the right decision. He is very well cared for and really settled in nicely. All the residents and staff are very friendly and welcoming, like family. The grounds and home are impeccably clean without any usual retirement home scents. There is plenty of very attentive, competent, and caring staff. My Father-in-law adores snd appreciates all the special care and attention he is given. He is much more engaged in exercise, activities, and excurtions since moving to Villa Fontana. He eats healthier, is always dressed nicely, and feels / looks great. The staff does an amazing job of managing his medication and insulin. This review is specifically for the Memory Care section at Villa Fontana. My recent experience at the facility is that there are some caring caregivers and the upper management is responsive to listening to issues but there is a communication gap with endorsement of medical orders and updates from shift to shift by the med clerks. I am very disappointed in the lack of knowledge and ability to accurately assess medical changes on the part of the staff (med clerks). The two stars represents an overall average covering 14 months; the most recent 6 months are low and the last month would rate minus stars. read more

Nice facilities physically. A lot of turnover in staff and English was not well spoken for some which made it difficult for my mother to communicate. A couple of the management staff were not easy to deal with, somewhat arrogant and a little high handed. They have a lot of authority once your loved one is there. They have a strange evaluation system which can cost you a lot of extra money-they do the rating and you pay a higher monthly rent. If we had to do it again I would not want my mother in residence there. read more

Villa Fontana is a wonderful facility! My mother has been a resident in their memory care unit for 18 months. I moved her to San Jose from Sacramento to be closer to me. She had previously lived in two other memory care facilities and Villa Fontana really stands out as a caring facility. I was so impressed by Villa Fontana that I moved my aunt to the facility a few months later. The staff is always so kind and cheerful. They love to celebrate all holidays and look for many ways to bring joy to their residents. They are also very friendly to the family members who come to visit. There is always clear communication with me; they are quick to inform me of any changes in my mom's health and they are extremely responsive to my questions. They have made arrangements with a health insurance plan that includes regular on-site visits from a nurse practitioner so any health issues are caught early and treated professionally. When my mother lived elsewhere, I had to spend a lot of time taking my mom to medical appointments and many more visits to the Emergency Room for unseen falls. Those issues simply disappeared when my mom moved to VF. My aunt's health declined from complications of Alzheimer's Disease and she was placed on hospice care. Villa Fontana worked seamlessly with the hospice organization and together, they gave my aunt wonderful care until she passed away last January. I cannot recommend Villa Fontana highly enough. read more

What a fabulous place!! My mother lived at 2 other assisted living facilities that cost twice as much but were not half as nice as this place. The caregivers are wonderful and truly care about their patients. The management staff is attentive and will listen to any concerns you may have regarding your loved one. My mother was in memory care and everyone that was part of the memory care staff was wonderful! They sang music to them, took them on bus trips, art projects, etc.. I'm so happy we were able to find such a great place for my mother. I always knew that she was well taken care of. Thank you Villa Fontana!! read more
